Billy sighs as the explosions spares most of the team and despite her fatalistic attitude, Rebecca remains standing after weathering it.  "Xander, come upstairs with me, I wanna see exactly how much structural damage it's gonna take to get your robot into that stairwell.  We're punching a hole in the ceiling."

"Look Bill, no bullshit, I can have an alternative power source for this whole place up and running in... let's say ninety minutes. Now that I know where the hub is. Why don't you and your crew take a breather? I get the feeling there's more stupid shit up ahead. Dunno, could be good to be fresh for it."

"Well you get first dibs on kicking his ass if he turns up. Well, wait... maybe. Oz will probably want to finish what he started with the whole disfiguring of the face by fire thing," Roger says midway through assembling an exhaust fan to pump the noxious fumes from the room. "Doing HVAC for a starship does have its advantages I guess."

Xander shrugs and follows Billy.

No harm in scoping things out for knocking down floors if we need to. I'd rather not though, if Roger gets shit up and running. If we get power going, I might be able to actually figure what the fuck this whole building is.

If he doesn't though, we can break some shit. I promise.

The walls in here are brutal, I couldn't phase through them without great effort.  Just an FYI, something in the molecular density I believe.

I'll stay down here and help Raj.  If you need a cheat code... gimme a call.

Though stay away from that first door on the right, thats where the waspers are.

Re: The Game: Chapter 12 - The Infinity Beyond

In reply to Basilisk (msg # 954):

While Roger, Rebecca, and anyone else interested in reassembling the power plant linger behind in the fuel room, Billy and Xander make their way to the grand staircase and spend some time examining the slab of ceiling that cuts off the staircase part-way through.

An open wall panel where Roger was poking around earlier can be seen to one side of the staircase, though this exposes nothing of interest. The ceiling's material is thick, hard, and cold to the touch. It will probably take some doing to punch through, though the mech's impressive leverage and armor-piercing bullets could certainly make things easier.

OOC: Lasers, bullets, or fists, gentlemen? And to confirm, you're moving Abraxas out of the lobby at this point?

***

Roger works in a blur of motion, his fingers flying this way and that even as he mutters and murmurs. An untrained eye might assume he's simply flailing around haphazardly, but it's hard to argue with the results of his work as a lattice of structural scaffolding falls into place where the network of pipes once sat.

With Rebecca's help, they soon dismantle and reclaim the available materials in the fuel room and transfer them to the generator room. Roger huffs as he hauls the growing chassis of what will soon be a makeshift power supply close enough to the fuse box to splice its wires into place.

The device is not yet complete, and it is unclear what Roger intends to use as fuel for this contraption, but it is certainly coming along nicely.

OOC: Going to give Team Destruction a few more rounds to operate.

***

Ibis ignores all of this, choosing to instead crouch low over the alien body that Roger saved from the flames. She has placed the splayed index and little fingers of her left hand against the corpse's forehead, and appears to be concentrating mightily. Her lips are moving ever so slightly, and those who pause to look might see her mouthing the word "Ceto" every few seconds like a mantra.

Re: The Game: Chapter 12 - The Infinity Beyond

When billy comes back to the entrance he considers the likely routes for Abraxas to get to the stairwell, then directs the biologist and Xander to help him move the still unconscious linguist into the locker/equipment room beyond the abandoned gift shop.  Once the civilians are ostensibly out of the way, he returns to the lobby so Xander can move Abraxas into the sairwell.  He points to the tapestry room Hitch stole his map from, "Fewer doors this way, wanna see if he can just Kool-aid his way through the wall before I open fire?"

Nightmare takes a moment to wipe the sweat off of her forehead from moving the pipes around.  Percy and Roger continue to work in the background.  She limps her way over to Ibis and Basil.

What is that indicative of?  Also what do you mean by what manner of being?  Are you asking about their disposition?

She raises her voice.

Hey Roger, can we borrow adj for a second?

Re: The Game: Chapter 12 - The Infinity Beyond

In reply to Nightmare (msg # 962):

Billy and Xander guide Abraxas over to the stairwell, doing as little damage as possible to the surroundings in the process. They consider the problem for a few moments before Xander climbs into the cockpit to take some readings.

"We should begin with an analysis of the wall itself, followed by a test its resistance to pressure and continual force using Abraxas's arms. Only then do I recommend we proceed to the railgun."

***

Rebecca, Basil, and Ibis crowd around Adj as it processes the request.

"Oh dearie dear!" it says primly. "We never called them that directly. Never! They were our Lords or our Ladies. I cannot say for certain which this one used to be. Definitely one or the other, though. Not some other creature who wandered in."

***

Roger continues his work, and in a relatively short period of time he has added enough to the scaffolding to support flickering lights. The generator hums and sparks a bit as the tinkerer makes some more adjustments, his fingers flying in a blur.

Soon enough, he is satisfied that the machine is in working order and pauses to consider the various fuses in the wall and the master lever, which has been returned to its initial position in the interim.

***

Abraxas rears back and slams a metal fist into the ceiling with significant force. The clank reverberates, but leaves no dent behind.

Recalculating...

"Adj buddy let's dial back the pedantics and moralizing about fifteen percent there," Roger says as he watches the generator closely for any portent vibrations.

"Bill I'm gonna get the juice flowing here again in just a second. Get somewhere stable. We're looking at less than 24 hours of power, just an FYI."

He pauses a moment.

"Hey, off chance, did we ever find the other half of that keycard Basilisk fished outta the shit? Didn't go to the maintenance room door."

The please tell us about your Lords and Ladies, what was their culture like?  How did they interact with other beings.  What is their life cycle like?

Rebecca gets up close and personal with the cadaver exploring its morphology and biology for any clues.

Billy looks at the lack of result from Abraxas's impact, "What if I try punching a hole in it?  Think it'd be easier to ust overpower whatever mechanism is behind it if you can get a handhold?"

In reply to Billy Laser Fist (msg # 967):

Nightmare's hair shocks neon pink and her face lights up with excitement.

A revolving door of species?!  I can think of four ways that works off the top of my head... each more fascinating than the next!  Adj...

Is Leireblomst a title bestowed upon a race?
Are the Leireblomst a parasitic race that lives within other species?
Do they even have a tangible forms?  Or are they just ghost riding other species?
Do they transform other species to take over their bodies as they transition from one planet to the next?

Are they all the same throughout their colonies or do they have a separate host for each world.

She barely pauses for breath.

Roger puts the finishing touches on his generator, plugs in a few cables, and pausing only briefly to waggle his fingers in anticipation, yanks down on the lever...

The large mech and its pilot(s) consider the question of whether a hole would help matters.

"A handhold would, I believe, ultimately allow us to leverage a greater percentage of-"

Sophia's reply to Billy's question ends as a series of clacks and hums echoes throughout the complex. Panels you had assumed were nondescript become illuminated, and the stale air begins to circulate as giant fans somewhere in the bowels of the facility spring to life.

More immediately, the the ceiling panel obstructing progress from the stairwell to the second floor slides away in a smooth, effortless motion.

The way forward is clear.
