In reply to Basilisk (msg # 419):
The designated away team files into the hangar and boards the transport, waiting until the hangar staff give the all-clear confirming Abraxas is safely stowed aboard before running through the final start-up sequence that will get the craft prepped for launch.
The final composition of the Away Team is:
quote:
01) Peyton (Pilot)
02) Xander/Sophia/Abraxas (PC)
03) Billy (PC)
04) Rebecca (PC)
05) Basil (PC)
06) Ibis (Medic)
07) Orville (Botanist)
08) Louis (Linguist)
(2 empty seats)
Peyton hops into the pilot's seat and begins to run the necessary sequences with enough familiarity to inspire confidence in his abilities. Everyone else is relegated to a rather comfortable chair in the passenger's lounge.
Unlike the cramped and uncomfortable shuttles you've crammed into in the past, this transport was designed for long journeys. There is ample leg room, storage space, and other amenities available for those who wish to make good use of it. This is particularly welcome news for Basil, whose bulky suit would have otherwise caused him to bunk with Abraxas in the cargo hold.
"Gunblazers Transport Alpha, requesting launch clearance," Peyton says into the comms. "Ready and waiting, Captain."
"Acknowledged, GT-A," Kayla's voice comes back over the comms. "You are cleared to launch. Clear skies, away team!"
With that, the transport rumbles to life, rising from the hangar's floor and bursting forth from the hangar bay with practiced precision.

Kayla watches as the transport fades from sight, though Dynamis continues broadcast its descent on the holo projector.
"Good luck, guys," she whispers.
"Indeed. I shall be interested to learn what they find," Gestalt says, standing somewhat off to one side of the bridge and watching the transport's progress with fascination. "But in the meantime, Captain, what would you have us do?"
Kayla frowns at Gestalt.
"They won't be gone long," she says. "Everyone should stick to their usual routine."
"As you wish," he nods. "I will relay your orders to the others."
Kayla shakes her head after Gestalt has departed the bridge and returns her attention to the transport's progress.

Team Transport
The GT-A makes good time on its initial descent, weathering the buffering winds with dignity as it enters the planet's atmosphere and pulls into a rather steep descent toward the mountaintop observatory.
"Strap in," he calls over the comms. "I'm not saying it's going to be a bumpy landing, but I'm not saying it won't be either. Hang tight. We should be there shor-WOAH!"
The transport bucks into a steep climb, followed immediately by a spiraling dive that pins everyone to the back of their seats.
"-shortly," Peyton continues, his voice sounding strained. "Very shortly, it turns out. Something's...the air current's...hang on!"
The transport blisters toward the planet's surface as if gripped by an unseen hand. As it works its way downward, those who are able to cope with the dizzying speed can catch a glimpse of blurred purple foliage giving way to rocky peaks capped in silvery ice interspersed with patches of sky as the ship rotates this way and that.
The vortex of air surrounding the transport creates a tunnel-like current that pulls your vessel inexorably toward the ground. Fortunately, some combination of Peyton's piloting or the vortex itself levels out your approach before it can end in a fiery crash, and the GT-A hops, skips, and skids—intact but battered—to a halt in a small, flat area just a short walk from the mountaintop observatory.
"We're down," Peyton announces breathlessly. "We...we made it. Everyone...everyone ok back there?"
