Re: OOC Discussion #6
In reply to Yardbird (msg # 950):
Let's talk about the cropduster situation for a moment.
When you're driving (or piloting) a vehicle, there are a variety of things that can happen that might result in the vehicle going "out of control," which means it stops going where you want it to go and starts going where the whims of fate decree, instead.
The longer a vehicle remains out of control, the greater the chance that it'll crash into something.
You can restore control with a successful piloting check in most cases, though generally you'll suffer some penalties to the roll (and potentially lasting penalties to future rolls for a while) depending on what caused you to go out of control in the first place.
Example: You hit an oil slick and lose control. You roll piloting vs what the GM rules is a yellow difficulty and succeed. The car is brought back under control one round later and nothing bad happened in the meantime--and no lasting damage, so no further penalties. Onward!
Example 2: You hit an oil slick and lose control, but this time you fail the piloting check. You can't get the car back under control that round, and it spins around wildly. You don't quite crash into the car next to you, but you do bang against it and rebound back off at speed; this costs you the rearview mirror and headlight on that side and earns you a nasty dent (i.e., Body Damage to the vehicle). The next round, you make a second piloting check. This one's harder, -2CS to the roll. If you succeed on that check, you might still suffer a minor penalty to future piloting rolls for a while to account for the damage done to the car and to your own sensibilities. If you fail enough rolls, you might decide to bail even if the vehicle doesn't actually crash due to the accumulated penalties from the damage.
All that is to say that the crow-plane isn't likely to crash right now. You're out of control, but you have time to pull out of it.
For the first attempt, we'll need a successful manipulation roll or a successful piloting roll (green will suffice, with no penalties to the roll). Godspeed!
