So I actually thought about it and by my count Billy has been primarily responsible for at least attempting the destruction of a major structure or structures on at least three occasions in-game and only once didn’t attempt to get clear everyone he did not specifically intend to be exploded.  I realize this is Frank lashing out at a judgmental stranger but he genuinely does have some expertise in controlled collateral damage and I find that really funny.

No, I don’t know that anything has been made explicit to those who weren’t in the hive, and Billy kept his space suit on for most of the day so even evidence of his ass kicking would be minor.  The Exilium crew would’ve been the only ones left out of the SOS regarding it too, unless Frank or Aviva would bother to debrief with Wren or Franklin, who were physically present for it.

That sounds like work for Wren or Franklin ;)

Unrelated, my daughter got some stickers for Christmas. One of them was a lion with no features on it, and a bunch of stickers to put on it sort of like a Mr potato Head. She put most of the teeth on the lion's bushy tail. And then a second mouth where the mouth is supposed to be. And this is the kind of creature that I may or may not just have to add to Ceto because it's just perfect.

On a more serious note, you may have noticed at the top of the website when you log in a disclaimer that says that we will soon be moving to something called responsive mode. I have resisted this change because I don't really like the new format. But, it is no longer optional. In a few days it's going to force us to transfer over to that version of this website. It will look more like a traditional forum, and ultimately I think we'll end up liking it just fine.

Anyway, if you see visual changes to the website, that's why. Know that it is out of my control, and it's probably ultimately for the best. This website is pretty dated, and even the responsive website that we're moving to looks 10 years old.

You don't have to make any changes on your end of things. The update will happen with no action taken, and the same URL will display the new version of the website.

Hey guys, I wanted to give a quick update on things.

Currently out of town, very busy with parenting and holiday stuff. I'm assuming a lot of you are in the same boat. I plan to resume updates again on January 3rd. If you guys want to play in between, please post! But, the next plot update will happen on the 3rd at some point.

I hope you have a very Happy New Year, and thank you so much for making 2023 a lot of fun for me creatively!

I'm going to be dodgy for a bit as well. My wife is due with our 2nd this Saturday, so sometime soon I'm going to be on baby duty!

Reminds me of a very funny one-shot LARP I was a player in years ago.  Rules-lite superhero system, no "HP" per se just an abstract concept of being injured or dying.

Roger, if you just stabbed yourself in the BRAIN or SPINAL COLUMN, I'm gonna need a Reason check to see if you know how to do that (+2CS to the roll with all the help you have available), and then a yellow Agility check to see if you managed to hit the right spot in the back of your head. You'll get +2CS to the roll if your Reason was red, +1 CS if it was yellow, +0 CS if it was green, and -2CS if it was white).

You can stab yourself in the back of the head either way, of course. The roll determines the consequences.

just to clarify the thing you described, there's what looks like part of the parasite with a band around the middle, do you just mean the middle of the length we can see or like lengthwise down the middle of the thing?

also the end of a bolt sticking out the end, is the back end of a bolt the threads or the head?

Good questions! Sorry I wasn't clear enough.

1) It's a band of metal around the part you can see, like a ring around a finger.

2) The part facing you is the head of the bolt. The threaded end cannot be seen, as it is inside the parasite. If we're using the image of a ring around a finger again, imagine someone screwed a bolt into your finger through the ring and you'll have a good picture of what I'm trying to describe.

I held back because I didn't want this guy to die and I wasn't sure how much of a beating he could take, but if it turns out that "any" is the kind of beating that puts him down I'll be mostly disappointed in his posturing, really.

The mole people in this game have run largely unchecked thus far so I'm very cool with it.

My mind was racing while i was deciding whether to shoot him or keep talking and even after I did I was trying to think of possible reactions to whatever he did and one thing that kept dragging me away from the idea of sending aviva and/or frank back to the team with the collar was “Roger fucking hates these guys” so I didn’t want to assume everything would just go okay on the surface if I tried to play “who suffers radiation poisoning first” with this guy after throwing you a hot lead.

While true, the red result on most attacks literally poses a “kill” result, so an unimportant NPC rolling poorly could just have his head knocked clean off.

Red results can be nasty, but fortunately fisticuffs results in perhaps the most mild result: a stun check. Other columns might have Kill or Slam results, which aren't always a good thing (I think you probably slammed Olsen quite a few more times than you'd have preferred).

In this case, your target must save vs Stun. On a green result, which is what he got, you lose your next action. So...dogpile o'clock, I suppose.

Almost feel bad for him!

This is how I read your action as well and is part of why I took a semi held "I'll punch him if he doesn't comply" stance. Otherwise Frank was literally forged in a min max lab to punch a living rock..

Speaking of, I specifically wrote myself standing over the talpid. I'm obviously not an expert in the system here but would that not provoke an AoO or some sort of check in response to the rock grabbing the mole?

I recognize out of character, siccing frank on the boulder would probably be the better strategic decision overall, but knowing nothing other than the rock is a rock and probably very dangerous, shooting it with the OP beam feels like a strong opening too.  I expected a tag out in short order if laser does not actually beat rock.  I feel a lot safer punching down in melee, and this guy is definitely over my weight class.

Sorry about that, I misread and misunderstood what your action was. I will revise this later today because it does indeed affect the disposition.

Stunning
I think there's some confusion about how being stunned works. Your target is not prone, is not knocked down. They just miss a turn.

It sounds like Frank is thinking of straddling somebody who's on their back, but instead what you're doing is essentially grabbing a dazed guy by the collar.

Advantage
There are no attacks of opportunity in this system. This is mostly because movement is so fluid; we're not worried about 5 ft steps and the like. Instead, the system gives me broad autonomy to grant CS bonuses or penalties as the situation warrants. This is akin to ye olde catch-all +2 circumstance bonus from other systems.

I'm sorry this scene was so hard to understand! I'll try to do a better job describing events and interpret in your actions moving forward.

Honestly I think this is less an issue of an unclear scene and more that the system is really not designed to be tactically gritty in the way we are used to from other systems.  It's geared more toward exciting descriptions of ticking down HP until one side loses, which makes sense for what the system is designed to represent.

I took Frank’s action to be more looming over the Talpid like a schoolyard bully ready to take his linch money, rather than straddling a prone victim.  He is down one good knee after getting punched right in his mole snout, the idea that he’d be at a lower posture at least makes sense.  Plus weren’t they described as kinda short compared to humans, or am I making that up?

Either way, I agree that the system isn’t very tactically oriented but I liked the explanation in one of the rulebooks that a round was roughly equivalent to a couple panels in a comic, so going from getting punched off your feet and immediately throwing the other guy through a wall doesn’t necessarily need anyone’s say so as just a narrative description, as long as you’re capable of wall-penetrating throws in the first place.

Is there a name for the rock we can use to make it clearer when we're trying to kill it?  How about Chuck?  if we attack Chuck, it's not the talpid.

I'm glad we didn't need to stay fully adversarial. And honestly, the biggest miss on Frank's part is the self-importance she attributed to him.  He's rather self-deprecating when he's not trying to be bombastic.

I want Nightmare's player to come back, I feel like she and Frank had very similar reads on Billy, and came to terms with him for very similar reasons.

I would like Rebecca's player to return as well. Anybody have any ins with them? *cough* JON *cough*

No the Joss.  If the skeleton is still intact I can tell roughly how long it has been dead, and I may be able to tell if there were any broken bones, missing teeth or anything else that may distinguish it.

Also does anyone remember how old Nightmare is?  I was keeping track of her Birthdays... maybe we just say she's 15?

The Joss was just a dismembered torso when we found it.  We've also mostly solved the murder so there's not much need to investigate the specifics of it.

We don't know who it is though... right?  We believe it to be the elected Joss but no confirmation yet and they seem to be resistant to the declaration of it.  Unless I'm off.

There's plans for a trial-ish thing soonish.  At this point who it was doesn't matter so much as who did it and as far as we've seen our suspected victim is still missing.

The biologist went home on the big ship.  we only brought a translator, healer, pilot and Gestalt as far as NPCs go.

Huh I thought we had an overeager botanist who was collecting specimens of everything when we first landed on Ceto.

You did! But they got sent home with most of the other NPCs. You only took a skeleton crew with you on Team Sit and Wait.

To be fair, it was supposed to be team globe hopping before the game went on pause and it turned out building infrastructure takes time.

Also is there a roll I should make for finding something that will kill the fungus?  I'm looking ideally for chemical means (Lye from the soap, any kind of acid I can get my hands on... just straight up old boring salt? )

Just a heads up for Nightmare, unless something has changed, normal comms are jammed, the pilot and Xander are thus incommunicado unless your telepathy has gotten a lot wider range.  this is one thing that makes the collar potentially interesting since it seems unaffected by the jamming we’re experiencing
