Roll 20 Thread

Meiou keeps telling me to post the next session date HERE instead of Roll20 because you all are here so I can remind everyone.  Since I finally got my work ethic back into full force, I've set up this thread.

Next Session 13 Jan @ 7:pm Central

Roll 20 Thread

In reply to David Foxfire (msg # 1):

A major heads up.  I caught what would be the worst case of Insomnia I've experienced in a while.  I don't know when I'll be able to fall asleep, but I don't think I'll have all of my wits with me by 7 PM.  Counter that with a nasty ice storm, and I decided not to risk things tonight.

Sorry about this, but I'm going to have to postpone the next session until next Friday, January the 20th.

Roll 20 Thread

In reply to David Foxfire (msg # 3):

I had to set this to people can actually post to this thread.  I didn't know that the thread is closed.

I've heard that Nathan would be busy on Fridays, so I'm open to either moving everything to another evening, or even moving this to Play per Post, which I won't mind (I need to find more time to devote to campaign designing anyway.)

What say you?

Roll 20 Thread

Play by Post would mean Tark's player could join our mechanics gaming fun since normal circumstances do not permit him voice chat.

On that note, were you planning on going clean-slate and starting over? Or continuing on from where we left off? I partly ask because the bunch of us were considering new characters and if you went fresh start, that would definitely allow for that.

Well, if everyone's considering making a new character, than I suppose that a fresh reboot of the campaign won't hurt.  Besides, I need more practice to hone the initial details.

Re: Roll 20 Thread

i'd be cool with play-by-post RPOL or play-by-post roll20.  i work till 9pm weekdays and 7:15 saturdays, so i have very limited windows for normal-people timed gaming.

Re: Roll 20 Thread

In reply to Nathan (msg # 8):

It'll be a combination of the two.  RPOL for the chat, Roll20 for the maps and the dicerolling.  We'll be using the same table as well.

Some advice for PbP style DnD.  It would really smooth things along, and free up your own workload redundancies if you list the stat blocks for enemies.  So players can field their turns without having to potentially split it into multiple posts waiting on the GM to resolve each step of the way.

For example, if somebody makes an attack with a chance to known an enemy prone.  They can't finish their other attacks until that's resolved. So you have to stop and post multiple times for a single player's turn.

Or if a Caster uses Scorching Ray or Eldritch Blast, they end up stopping to ask "Did that hit? Did it kill them so I can pick a new target or not?" a half dozen times. So again, you're getting stuck posting multiple times for a single player's turn.

It's an easy way to burn out a GM with jumping through extra hoops for the sake of mindsets more suited to real time gameplay, even without considering how much it slows stuff for the players too.

So you listing the enemy stat blocks in a way readily viewable by the players, and allowing players to make open rolls for enemy DC checks when you are not around, is the kind of thing that really smooths out PbP DnD. Even if you are the only one in control of enemy tokens, and adjusting their HP based on what we write down.

Though, people with forced movement would still have to wait on you, without enemy token permissions (Reason number 178 why I'm not playing a Vanilla Warlock here. Considering push on hit is a readily available feature for E Blast).

Re: Roll 20 Thread

Hey David! I logged onto teamspeak thursday night, but I was an hour too late to chat with you. Tell me a day to be on teamspeak so Chris and I can chat with?

On that note; Grodark and Reiyu were on when I popped onto teamspeak and they suggested maybe the holidays were the reason people failed to show up on Fridays for so long.

That said, I am still psyched about playing the PbP game. And I don't know how your communications have gone with the other players. Anyways, Chris and I would really like a chance to talk with you on teamspeak asap so please lemme know when to meet you! :)

Re: Roll 20 Thread

In reply to Tam Selhana (msg # 13):

The biggest hurdle in my end is making sure that I don't run out of cloud storage space on Roll20 because of all the stats.  But I think I figured out a workaround.  The Stat Blocks for Bandits should be in Roll20.  Look under 'Monster Manual,' they'll be in all text.

This Saturday (4th) would be a good time to chat with me on this.
