Æthercoil Introductions

Zerry smiles brightly. "Thank you for the compliment, Jamiewintertouch! You have a neat name!" She looks at Tark. "Hello Tark! I'm so glad you think me nice to meet!" It's not that she is shouting with every sentence, just that she carries a certain enthusiasm with every sentence. A lively one, that centaur.

She looks back at Jamie, "I'm in this village because I'm lost. I was running and running and the next thing I knew, several days came and went! I lost track of time and where I went! Sooooo... I'm here, but I don't know where here is to there or where there is to here."

Zerry flags down Pyrus. "Hey you with the pretty hair and nifty skin! C'mere!" she quickly looks back at Jamie. "Which reminds me! I like your hair too! Its so red, it reminds me of when there is fire in the sky!"

Æthercoil Introductions

Tark has seen some 'redhead' elves of assorted subspecies in the past, but that was in less reputable areas of cities.  While Jamie is dressed far more respectably (and covered) for it to just be a dye job.

That said, Tark didn't think it was polite to point and stare.  Which is also why he's not going bug eyed at Pyrus's situation, like someone who was not a hardened adventurer (which he totally was, honest) would-

Wait, Zerry IS pointing and staring. Should he then?... Nah, it would probably be less endearing from a half-orc to compliment someone's skin.  So he just nods, and says "Hello, Jamie.  I'm glad to see so many pleasant people around here."

He turns to Zerry, and asks "Well, why wouldn't people think it's nice to meet you Zerry?"  Maybe people who have to clean hoof prints indoors?  He rummages through his pack, commenting "Well, I have no idea where you came from.  But we could at least point out where you are now on a map."

Æthercoil Introductions

Having finally reached the ground level behind the inn he dusted himself off.
Now finally ready to goto the market that was until his stomach growled.
This made him realize he'd spent so much time stealing and serving he hadn't
taken the time to actually eat. He just hoped the cook didn't change the special of the day to rabbit stew again now that lily was gone. He made his way around front and headed into the building proper.

He looked around and hope he didn't smell too much like Lily's perfume as he ordered the special and some mead while he waited.

Æthercoil Introductions

Jamie just smiles and chuckles a bemused giggle as she watches a rather energetic centaur go back and forth like someone who took a bit more than their recommended daily allowance of caffeine.  "Why, you're in Saint Omer, my dear," she said in a melodic voice.  "Just a bit away from a village called Parnast, which I'm ultimately headed.  You'd probably like it there, pretty.  Nice open spaces for you to..."

Her eyes glance over to see Meiou appear.  Her eyes narrowed, but she still smiled.  Resembling a cat who found her prey, she lowered her head and tapped her nose with a finger. "You have to excuse me, I found someone I wanted to meet."

'Never expected to find him so soon,' Jamie whispered to herself as she pulled out a slip of paper from a belt pouch and, using Mage Hand, carried it over into Meiou's pouch as he was about to pay for his dinner.

"Meiou, there is a woman who would want to talk to you about the debts you incurred.  Meet her in a wagon with witch's insignia in the stables.  Pippkin Ducaine."

Æthercoil Introductions

He was taking out the gold for paying for everything when he found the note.
He cursed under his breath . He had just been planning to go send a payment too.
You steal one treasured outfit and suddenly your debt you cant possibly imagine. Though he had heard tales of something called 'student loans' once . Never did understand what that was about.

Æthercoil Introductions

Pyrus smiled and nodded from the invitation.  He carries his prisoner with him and ties him to a chair before taking a seat himself.

"Thanks for the compliments and invitation, Zerry.  I'm Pyrus.  This is Ozshoon Hatred the Babykiller."

The tiefling looks quite annoyed at being introduced.

"Sorry to hear about your misfortune.  Good to see you have someone who looks eager to be helpful."

Half orcs may not have stellar reputations in general, but "mislead centaur children for the lulz" isn't a common thing from what he's heard of them.  And the guy looks extremely chill for a half-orc.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

Zerry respects Jamie's request to be excused and turns her attention to Tark to answer his question. "Some people think it is so-so to meet someone. Others think it is bad to meet someone. I've met a few here in town who didn't like me just for living."

She turns to look at Pyrus. "Why is Ozshoon gagged? And why is he called babykiller?"

Just because she is no longer talking with Jamie doesn't mean Zerry isn't paying attention / distracted by Jamie's actions and the fact a bunny just walked into the place.

....it does seem the tavern has not gone immediately back to serving rabbit stew.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

Clearly, the prisoner was called such because of their resemblance to Ozshoon Loathing the Puppy Kicker.

"Hope you have a nice talk" Tark comments to Jamie while still rummaging through their mundane objects, finally bringing out a map tube.  Because Tark had learned the hard way just cramming lose notes and maps into storage isn't very good for them.

He spreads the map on the cleanest... er, most available part of the table.  "Okay, North is that way" He points perfectly towards North without looking  "This is Saint Omer.  Over there is Parnast... and I have no idea where you used to live, but if you remember what direction you entered this town from, you'll at least have a good idea which way to run back.  Which might not even be on this map, it wasn't very expensive."  Good thing too, with how many notes and scribblings Tark has added to fill in where he had been that wasn't on it.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

To Meiou:

At the bottom of the note, Meiou sees a note written in a more flowery script:  "Tomorrow Morning, hon.  I'm spending the night in an inn."  It also had a spray of perfume on it as well.

To Zerry:

'Ah, such a polite girl, even if she is a bit hyper,' Jamie mused to herself, but there was a glint of steel in her eyes when she heard of 'Ozshoon the Baby Killer.'  She hoped that she didn't have to interrupt her dessert by slinging spells with this loser.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

"Ozshoon specializes in devil magic that requires killing babies," Pyrus explains, "So his reputation became part of his name.  He is gagged to prevent him from incanting spells."

He looks impressed with Tark's map.  "Wow.  What you have there could be quite valuable to the right buyer.  Or to you if you were to take up cartography as a profession."

He takes out his own map of the region.  Far less detailed.  And covered in Xs to mark off the places he did not find his quarry.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

The rabbit pocketed the note an sighed. He swore he had one unlucky foot and one lucky from the way his luck swayed. maybe he had been cursed? he'd have to ask someone to look into it sometime. For now he paid for his meal and drink taking them to go sit at a table. It was nice to see it was still beef stew being served.

He just hoped noone started making jokes about a rabbit folk eating meat. Not every town has as easy access to veggies as some so he just went along with it instead of trying to carry his own specialized food or something.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

Fun fact! Rabbits sometimes eat their own babies. So rabbits eating meat isn't unheard of...

Zerry looks at the maps and ooooos. "....I have no idea!" she says almost as though proud of her ignorance. Almost. "I have never seen a map before, but it looks nifty! I'll bet it is useful to you, but I have no idea what those drawings mean!"

You take for granted that reading a map is a skill. And even some people who are trained in reading maps can get confused. The centaur, having never seen one, is not only confused, but doesn't even understand the concept.

Zerry looks at Pyrus. "....babies? What a meanie."

Zerry looks over towards the rabbit then back to Jamie. She wants so badly to ask questions, but the map is, for the moment, keeping her occupied.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

Well, Tark tried.  Not very hard to be fair, but he tried.  The things one takes for granted when you have Automap as a personal feature.

"Thank you, Pyrus.  Though I figure I'd just be given spare change for my scribbling over old maps.  Then at best there are maps that already show what I filled in, and at worst they just sell new ones with what I drew"

Back to Zerry, he comments "Well, since it's a drawing it's hardly perfect.  But it's supposed to give you a rough idea of where things are in relation to eachother.  The tiny town with the words Saint Omer on it means, well, Saint Omer."  He can't really blame her for not remembering what specific direction she approached the town gate from.  Town gates kind of blur together after a while.

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

Pyrus nods to Tark.  He thinks the guy doesn't give himself enough credit.  A humble half-orc?  Not unheard of, but certainly a gem.

He then smiles at the child and explains.  "A map is a drawing of a place as seen from above.  I'll show you."

He waves his hand over his map and an image of the room as seen from he ceiling appears on it.

"This is a map of this room.  If you were to show this to someone who's never been here, they'd still know about the back door even though they'd never seen it.  Now most map artists don't show this much detail because it would take too long to make copies.  So they replace perfect pictures with symbols.  Like this."

Pyrus waves his hand over it again.  The map becomes a symbolic map.  "These rectangles represent windows.  This symbol represents a door..."

He continues to explain maps of varying scale and how to read them.

After she finished off her dessert, Jamie joined in.  She pointed to a side village on the map with Saint Omer on it.  "That's Parnast, my pretty, that's the place I told you about."

Re: Æthercoil Introductions

The rabbit sat down at a table near them and began eating.

He didn't seem like much or much like an adventurer given his lack of equipment.
He just seemed to have the clothes on his back ,the money pouch , and that strange bracelet on his wrist.  Maybe he was some townfolk or merchant?  It was hard to say for sure unless someone managed to examine him very closely.

In reply to meiou (msg # 25):

While Jamie is talking to the centaur over the map, she takes a couple glances over to the rabbitfolk to get a better look.  At times even looking up and down him.  'It's definitely Meiou,' she mused to herself. 'Pippkin's description of him is unmistakable, and even with his disguises, I can see right trough them.'

Zerry ohs and nods to the explanations. She picks up well enough on it, though it is obvious she isn't any brighter than a normal kid. Zerry then looks at Jamie. "Why not invite your bunny friend over here? You keep looking at 'im, so you may as well have him join us!"

She waves to Meiou. "Hey bunny! Wanna come hang out? Make some friends?"

Pyrus smiles at the amusing exchange.  He wonders a bit to himself if being a red-head would make him stand out more or blend in more with this group.  Well at least he matches Zerry's color.

To Meiou he simply raises his pitcher in a gesture of welcome.  He chooses not to ask Jamie about her eyeing the bunny.

"Work? I can help! I'm a real workhorse! Whatchya do for work?! And you may as well come over here so I don't have to yell across the tavern in order to have this conversation!"

People were already looking at Zerry's table as it was... now they are staring with amusement. And many are following this latest development. Meiou, along with Zerry and friends, are all now the stars of the tavern.

he closed his eyes and meditated for a few seconds. Mostly to ease his anxiety about all eyes being on him. He really did not like being noticed.

He reopened them and looked at the girl " Lass i'm ten feet away not clear across the tavern. No real need to be screaming at the top of your lungs at me. " he replied in a calmer demeanor. He had sat down at a table near theirs after all.

Jamie just chuckled as she turned on the charm, she moved over to Zerry as she gave the rabbit a rather coquettish pose.  "Well," Jamie said to Zerry, "I could use some help myself, you see, I need to find a place where I can set up a good sanctum near that village.  You've probably done some moving help before, sweetie.  I then have to so some rituals and start on a little garden for components, I prefer to grow my own, you see.  After that, things might be dulled down, but I know I'd like seeing you around."
