Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Angel peeks an eye and can see JB's outburst woke pretty much everyone. Unless Jamie not being mentioned is because she is a deep sleeper and she didn't wake up.

Angel says, "Anything we can do to help, Johnny?"

Johnny even managed to wake up Jamie, but she merely opened one eye and closed them again.

"Forgive me for waking all of you up for one," Johnny muttered with his head in his hands.  "I don't know if I should be scared or embarrassed.  More like embarrassed."

He flopped back on where he laid.  "Stupid Flashbacks."  As he spread out his arms, he lets his hand brush up against Angel's.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

The rabbit shrugged as he turned around to head back to bed.
"Hey don't think of it as a bad thing to remember the past. Sure it may of been a bad time to effect you like this but you've grown from it obviously. Plus being you can actually remember it to reflect upon it. So next time it happens show it how much better you are because of it. " He wasn't trying to sound rude or uncaring if he came off that way it was just something that had come to him and felt comforting in his mind.

Pyrus retracts the rejected plushie.  Didn't want to part with it anyway.

"It's fine, Johnny.  As you can see, no one is mocking you.  I'm sure you'll be kind enough not to tease should one of us wake from a terrible nightmare.  And be just as willing to offer a listening ear."

Not that he's expecting the man to talk about his troubles.  But Pyrus'll wait for Johnny to indicate he's ready to get back to sleep before doing so himself.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Angel glances at the hand, but says nothing about it. She has a slightly frazzled expression (much like someone who is grumpy when awakened from their sleep) as people say their piece to JB. But she closes her eyes and the expression fades to calm. When she opens her eyes again, she gives JB a slight smile. "They all have good points, Johnny. Whatever you dreamed, you woke to having people who care. Rest well, knowing that."

She goes back to where she was resting (somewhere between JB's spot and Meiou's spot).

(For purposes of when this happened, I'm saying this was the first night they all spent together. So May says her goodbyes once this mini RP is wrapped up)

Meiou had already fallen back asleep. One thing he had taught himself in recent times was the ability to goto sleep anywhere. As sometimes its better to sleep than be awake all night when your about to go on a heist.

Oh noooooo an interruption smaller than a turn taking watch oh noooooo-wait that's not bad at all.

Though Tark is not quite so surprised over the fact someone would expect people to be actually mad about that as he used to be.  As much as anything, it's part of his drive to be less of an asshole than the general populace.

Not a very high bar to meet, but you start somewhere.

Pyrus pretends to fall asleep, but keeps a sharp ear out for Johnny's getting up to leave.  Once satisfied that the others are actually sleeping safely, he lets himself drift off as well.

Little known fact!  Ancient dragons sleep long and deep because they're ancient.  A dragon of Pyrus' age sleeps about the same as a normal human.

In the morning, May joins the group for breakfast.

Angel says, "So I guess the first order of business was to take the debt Meiou owed to Pip and pay that off?"

May is well aware of debts, debt-collectors, etc... but she doesn't often see people pay someone else's debt. Her eyes fix on what Angel said and she scans the people present, as if looking for who it was that was going to pay it.

In reply to Angel Bard (msg # 349):

Jamie points her index fingers together.  "Actually that's already been done.  I had enough coin for me to hire and train an apprentice, but then I heard of the debt Meiou had to Pippkin, so I paid for the debt and that's why he's my warlock."

Johnny just glances back at Jamie.  "Why do I get the feeling that there's more to that--"

Jamie shot a look back at Johnny which told him to "Be Quiet, Mouse."

Meiou gave Johnny a sympathetic look of i'll answer questions later before returning

deep seated with how they tended to pick at one another.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

"The idea is for nobody to hold the concept of debt over Meious head as an excuse to abuse him, Jamie.  So the only reason there would be any issue with that stopping right now, is if you decide you like humiliating him so much you declare paying off his 2,000ish debt means you deserve 20,000, some form of legendary artifact, and whatever other arbitrary demands you don't actually want met."

Tark sighs.  "Asking nicely for you to treat Meiou as a person rather than property clearly isn't working out. So throwing money at you to get rid of the pretext of financial baggage is apparently needed.  I don't think you'll give up shoving him into Sarah and throwing away the metaphorical key, abusing your apprentice link to silence complaint far more than actually teaching him how to be a warlock, or even half of what you think nobody notices you doing to him lightly."

He looks to Johnny, and comments "Say your piece Johhny. You'll never get anywhere traveling with us if you let Jamie keep threatening you for even speaking. I'll dive between you and any curses and spells she throws your way if that's what it takes... I'm assuming you know that doesn't mean I'll play bodyguard for bad jokes though"

Pyrus figures that if Meiou really wanted to, he could have left Jamie's service long ago.  And will likely defend Jamie as "not all bad" like he did Pip.  But rather than voice his assumptions, he just keeps quiet for the moment, enjoying his bacon and eggs.

And offering a bite to May.  What?  Look his way, and you too could be offered a free bite of yummy protein-rich breakfast goodies.

Angel just took this all in with a note of "well well well..." on her face as she took a sip from her tea, as if mock-hiding her expression. But Tark has the floor and Angel is not going to add to what Tark said, let alone interrupt. This is internal politics anyways, but she IS curious how Jamie will respond to Tark before Angel says her piece.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

"I treat Meiou a lot better than I appear to, Tark, I assure you."  Jamie said (NOTE:  We did rewind the part where she forced Meiou to become Sarah in public)  "The problem is that whoever removed Meiou's memories has also added two to three inches of skull in his head, and sometimes I have to drag the poor rabbit around to get a clue.  Hopefully, when he remembers who he is he'll start appreciating working with someone who'd treat him nice if he lets her."  She then turned toward the mouse.  "As for Johnny..."

"I am a practical joker by nature, and everyone who knows me knows it," Johnny said with a wry grin.  "Even Angel here, since she knows what I use for an alarm clock."

Quick Cut to Angel sleeping in Johnny's wagon, next to a wind-up alarm clock with one of those string party poppers. (URL: https://upload.wikimedia.org/w...px-Party_poppers.jpg) Only when the alarm pulled the string, about five times the amount of confetti accompanies the pop and spills over her.

Johnny saw a string still stuck in Angel's hair.  "You have to excuse me, Angel, I think you missed one," Johnny said as he pulled the string out.

"You are also an unrepentant masochist," Jamie added.  "How many times have you intentionally raised the ire of someone to the point that he slugged you or cast a spell on you?  Seven of those times were from me.  And every time you have that goofy grin at the moment."

Johnny displayed that grin Jamie talked about. (URL: http://www.slate.com/content/d...CROP.promo-large.jpg) "What can I say? I do things because I like the response."

Jamie just shook her head.  "Angel, dear, I shall remind you to keep your court jester on a short leash, for his sake."

Meiou had sort of zoned out as Jamie and Johnny talked.
He just would take occasional glances at Angel as just
something about the girl stirred his heart. He'd heard
of the myth of love at first sight mostly cause Pip sometimes
used it to charm a lady but was this what he was feeling?
He sighed quietly to himself wishing this bracelet could
give him those memories even if just for abit to make new
ones.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

"When Johnny puts on a questionable outfit and does strange things, it's his own idea and it's not someone else literally putting words in his mouth.  More children would probably be crying at the circus than usual if their parents had to explain 'Oh they don't WANT to do those things. They are just being forced to like living puppets."  Tark, Jesters work in courts, not the circus, duh.

Though he does seem rather confused at Jamie's claim she needs Meiou to LET her be nice to him.  So he asks the rabbit.  "Why does Jamie think she needs an incentive to be nice to you?  Unless you're literally screaming 'don't be nice to me', it's not hard. Or is this one of those euphemism things?"

Tark is hardly surprised Pyrus and Angel have gone silent over the subject to let him do their work for them, seems to always turn up in his life when treating claimed staff as more than objects is the subject.  Though it is a bit worrying Angel doesn't seem to be all that upset over Meiou's treatment.  Maybe the rabbit prefers squirrels over her own kind?

Pyrus... Not so much, even a reasonable seeming dragon would probably hate to suggest LESS servants.

Tark misses when a pickaxe to the skull and a pink slip to show for it seemed like the worst employers to put up with.  Then Meiou shows up and... Having a conscience is damn inconvenient.

Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.  Or so said the fortune cookie.  Pyrus has plenty of thoughts on the topic, but chooses to keep them to himself.  For reasons he's also not divulging.  So his narration will neither confirm nor deny any laziness or reluctance to argue against magically enslaved servants.  For the record though, his kobald flunkies are free to leave his service at any time.

Pyrus smirks bemusedly at the interaction between Jamie and Johnny.  "I see now that Jamie enjoys your antics, Johnny.  She's smart enough to know what reactions encourage you to do more."

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Angel interposes herself between Johnny and Jamie and says with a smile, "Johnny only means well, Jamie. He just shows it differently. Just like you."

Angel says, "Tark... you do remember how Meiou was magically compelled to forget what was being asked of him just as he was about to answer? There is probably merit to what Jamie is saying. Meiou may very well be under a curse to cause him to get in trouble that Jamie has to force him not to get into. That said..."

She looks at Jamie. "Been meaning to thank you for the ring you gave me the other day. That was a huge gesture of friendship to me. Tark here obviously has just as much concern for Meiou. We all want him to be free and have his memories back, but none of us want him hurt either."

Angel looks at the group as a whole and adds, "But since this is about Meiou, let's ask him what he wants."

Angel walks over to Meiou and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Meiou... Tark has literally offered to buy you off of Jamie if you feel she is unfair. Can you assure all of us that what Jamie does for you is actually what you want and that, as far as you are concerned, you are free to be you?"

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

"That is why she's my queen," JB said with a beaming smile as he hugged Angel's shoulders before she turned to Meiou.

"You're quite welcome, dearie," Jamie said.  "I hope I can help you after you help me...well...my warlock with his memories.  I once had an idea before you showed up, but I'm afraid that it'll be shot down.  It concerns one of his outfits, which is a living costume."

As Angel moved over to Meiou, Jamie imagined the rabbit as a regal monarch, her gown glowing with enchantments, her voice holding a regal tone, taking in the whole room as if she owns the place and could persuade just about anyone to follow her through hell and back.

Jamie closed her eyes to hide her ambitions for Angel.  After all, she needed to focus on Meiou, after all.  She wanted him to not just have his memories back, but also to have the rabbit be hers if she could.  While she's not above charming people as a short-cut, even when it goes too well, she preferred to have it done naturally.

Something Angel knows how to do, from what she has seen.  Maybe Jamie would pick up something from her.

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

The rabbit massaged his temples during all of this. He was a rogue and thus hated
being the center of attention like this. He sighed and looked up to answer
"Look I appreciate the concern but if anything Jamie's treated me better than Pip has. I worked with Pip because I owed him for helping me back on my feet. The things I did i'm not exactly proud of but I did them of my own will. A change here or there with Sarah is much more pleasant than what i did before. Its not a forced thing as you keep thinking it is. Least i don't feel it is and i doubt Jamie would use magic to make me feel as such. There are times when Sarah's a better choice for the situation rather than plain old me who might cause trouble involuntarily with my actions. Think of it more as Jamie keeps me on a leash for my own protection as well as yours. Do i want my debt bought again? NO! Honestly im still pissed Pip did it in the first place but I have to live with it. I have enough problems without being indebted to a third person. My own sense of honor can only take so many hits before it goes out the window. "

He took a breath and looked to the jester Johnny

"I get it I really do. You really like her and want to help but maybe you should take her off that pedastal in your mind and see her for herself rather than how you picture her. "

Re: Æthercoil: Togetherness

Tark sighs.  "The whole idea was that you won't owe me, or anyone else Meiou. You have permission to outright stab me if I ever hold a bag of gold I give over your head except in jest, if that's what it takes to convince you.  So that maybe you'll have the chance to realize you won't convince anyone you are defending your honor by saying you deserve a leash."

Sure, some people are into that.  But Given Meiou's background, it's hardly an informed choice when they are confusing the first no strings attached gifts in probably years as debt.

"Maybe Jamie is the only person in a hundred miles even slightly able to help your condition. I'm not interested in you ditching her so much as not letting her get away with taking advantage of you, just because you don't remember actual what friendship looks like.  But it really says it all, when the BEST thing you have to say about Jamie..."

And with all the 'I'm not mad, just disappointed' his 14 Charisma can muster, Tark says "At least she isn't as bad as pip...  I probably couldn't say anything more horrible to Jamie if I tried.  You deserve better than that, Meiou."

"'Worse than Pip,' would probably suffice," Pyrus suggests to Tark, "But I'm guessing you were searching for things you could say and still prove."

He raises an eyebrow at Meiou's wise words to JB, but figures nothing more need be added.  And yeah, Pyrus has picked up on the fact that the rogue is uncomfortable with being the center of attention.  Zerry's introductory scene proved that much.  Doesn't mean Pyrus won't pretend to not have picked up on it from time to time.

"A living costume, eh?  Very interesting.  May I ask what Sarah's story is?"

We may be overlooking something even more tragic than a man robbed of his memories and freedom, after all.
