Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

OOC:  Now that Tim's back, we can continue our games.

At regular intervals along any well-used roads, there are well-used places to camp.  Sometimes, these places are chosen for shelters to be built to provide not just a secure campsite, but also a place for a guard to keep watch over the immediate region.

And then there are places that would be otherwise abandoned, like the tower that our heroes reached before the last of the sun sets.

A fifty-foot tower just above the trees.  It could've been a lookout or a wizard's tower in an earlier time, but it's abandoned now.  The front door is locked.

At the foot of this tower, there was a clearing with an ample fire pit and a box that opens to reveal some spare equipment.  A half-spent tinderbox, a couple torches, some spare bandages, and even a couple books.  It's not too uncommon for previous travelers to drop off any excess items for future travelers to pick up if they need it.

Justin just dropped in a newspaper he got from Calais while Darcy gets a fire going.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

Chestnut nods to James and smiles. "Won't hold you responsible for fate, James. But I will be disappointed if I scream like a little girl while being savaged and you just sit by eating popcorn. After all, that would mean someone took over your mind."

Chestnut helps Meiou with the searching of the area to make sure nighttime ambushes won't be a thing. He then smiles and looks at Meiou. "Hey Meiou. Think you can unlock the door? Locked doors exist for people to unlock them, after all. And why camp outside a building when we could camp inside?"

Chestnut would do it, but he suspects Meiou would be better at it.

Chestnut then goes to help Darcy with the fire. He turns to talk to her. "You know. When I got into the adventuring biz, I chose bard because I'm a musician and the idea of weaving magic with music was too appealing to resist. It was a nice bonus when I learned I could use magic to heal my friends... but while a little healing is far better than none, having you along is just sooo much nicer. Of course, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say it is nice to have you along for much more reason than just healing, but goodness do you ever do that well."

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

The closest any of the kids would get to poisoning anybody is if they were allowed to cook unsupervised.  http://mediad.publicbroadcasti.../201504/KidsCook.jpg

Mits grins at the exchange between the guys.  "And this is another reason I hang out with you all!"

She nods to Chestnut's suggesting that Meiou should try the lock.  "If we can't open the lock, I'll see about getting in by some other means."

The kids help with setting up camp, and Pyrus is eager to make himself useful by lighting the fire.

The rabbit was already ahead of their suggestions as he had his tools out trying to pick the lock . he was trying to ignore the chatter behind him as he worked to keep from throwing him off.

As the bunny gets to work, he adds "Though do be slightly more paranoid than usual Meiou.  A place this well traveled, and but still locked shut?  It may not be as abandoned as assumed."

The lock unlatches, the door opens, and a new map is loaded into Roll20

(Your location is marked by the token)

You see a semi-darkened room by the lack of sunlight.  It's part of a classic stone and wood house with a tower.  The room has a kennel up ahead, ladders to your left that goes up to a ledge above you, and a barrel in one corner.  There is a door to your right.  A lantern that appears full of oil appears in a near corner next to the ladder.

You hear some chains move in front of you, several rooms in.

Chestnut grins to Mitts' comment and gives her a thumbs-up! He prestidigitates a flower for Mittens and offers it to her with that bright, innocent smile of his.

Once inside the first door, Chestnut gets all wide-eyed. "Thanks, Meiou... man, I love places like this. Dibs on checking out the loft."

Chestnut hurries up the ladder to check out what's up on the ledge.

"Nice job, Meiou!  Good point, James."

Mits smiles at Chestnut, Righty noms the flower's stem and brings the bloom to Mits nose so she can sniff.  He then places the flower in her hair.  The kids are too scared to go inside the dark building and stay with the wagon.  Mits snaps her fingers to light the lantern with magic.

She then calls out in a stern voice, "Now before you go and accuse us heroes of being home invaders, this is not private property, and you've no right to go about claiming it's yours simply because you put a lock on the door."

Her tone softens, "But if you welcome us politely, you'll find us very agreeable guests."

The rabbit facepalms upon hearing mittens. The whole point of being a thiefy type was to stealth around and NOT let anyone know you were there to robt them. that was like rule 2 of pips rules. He sighed walking in softly curious as to the noise ahead.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

James would worry about Mittens loudly announcing themselves, but really such small towers do not leave much room for subterfuge unless they are unoccupied in the first place.  Which the rattle of chains and maintained lighting kind of suggest against.

"I don't think our luck runs good enough for 'wrongly imprisoned occupant', but a guy can dream." It's not callous, as it would be good luck for any wrongly imprisoned occupants to meet the party. It would be the rightfully imprisoned about to have a much worse day.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

The loft above the cage only had a couple boxes full of old mundane items (Any Item in the Equipment Table under 5 GP would be found there) but other than that and the lantern that Mittens ignited, the room is empty.  The door to your right (on the map) opens without resistance.  The chains continue to shake.

Cut to outside over Mittens' outburst:  Darcy and Justin just look into the open tower with bewilderment in their eyes.

"I can't believe she just said that," Justin said.

"I didn't sense anything dangerous in that tower," Darcy said, "So let the nubies learn how to properly adventure."

Justin gave a concerned look to the cleric but then changed the subject.  "Do you think Karl is all right? I know he tends to step in stuff that almost always gets over his head.  Easy to do with his height."

"Easy for him to get out of it with his stubbornness.  I'm sure we'll catch up with him, and I'm sure he'll chew us out for being late in rescuing him so he got out of whatever he got himself in.  You know dwarves."

Justin pauses, groans a bit, and then goes back to setting up the fire.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

Chestnut can be heard having a kender party up in the loft. "What's this thing?" small clacking sounds. "...ooooh marbles." more clacking sounds. "Oh hey, guys! I found a deck of Three Dragon Ante!"

He peaks over the edge, down at the rest of the team with a blanket over his head and wrapped around himself with an opening for his smiling face. "I guess we better check on that sound quickly, though. We can come back to this stuff later."

Abacus (Totally want this!), Backpack, Ball Bearings, Barrel, Basket, Bedroll... the list of things under 5gp is surprisingly long. But needless to say, Chestnut finds them all interesting, like most things in life.

But he rushes back down and follows the chain sounds. "Like my friend said, we're here to help! Please don't be alarmed!"

Noting the facepalm and bewilderment, Mittens asks innocently, "What?"

She grins at Chestnut's antics, then heads into the next room, takes a look around, and reaches to open the next door.

"Your rattling chains and no response is leaving me to believe that you're either a ghost or some mute creature.  Neither of which are going to scare me off.  My offer remains.  Be polite, and I shall be polite in return."

The rabbit sighed. Seriously these two know not the meaning of stealth.
Upon hearing Darcy his ears twitched. "You seem to forget I can STILL hear you." he called back to the healer . He didn't seem to like being reffered to as newbie. He had done plenty of jobs with pip just not many of these kinds.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

That's clearly the real reason why Meiou is a newbie, because he doesn't realize they are totally saying that on purpose.

"Wow, that's pretty bad news Justin.  The average dwarf is much taller than Meiou or Chestnut, so if Karl's height is worth comment then these two are absolutely screwed."

James follows along with Mittens, so if things go wrong in the next room there will be more heroic(?) violence on hand.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

I'm assuming that you're following the sounds here.

The party progress toward a succession of a Common Room, a Kitchen, the Hallway where a circular staircase is seen, and a bedroom. Eventually, you come to near the source of the chain sounds, at the other side to the door to Area 2.  (Where the marker is at.)

I'll let you stop on the way over there if you want to investigate anything beforehand.

Chestnut heard 'em too, but he always feels he's a newbie! Life is just more exciting when you're a newbie. :)

Chestnut is going directly to the sound. People are more important than things. These rooms and their contents aren't going anywhere.

"My guess is that Meiou and Chestnut are being spared the short jokes until such time as our hosts are more friendly with them," Mittens concludes, "Zombie.  I'm thinking zombie.  And now for some music appropriate for how the zombie is feeling at our arrival."

As a princess, Mittens is compelled to begin singing and dancing through the house, playing with plates in the kitchen, and so on as she makes her way to the room where the chain sound is coming from.  ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?...NFM15sQnG5f1Tc2cqU6B )

"The window is open, so's that door
I didn't know they did that anymore
Who knew we owned eight thousand salad plates?

For years I've roamed these empty halls
Why have a ballroom with no balls?
Finally they're opening up the gates

There'll be actual real live people
It'll be totally strange
But wow, am I so ready for this change!"

On the word, "change," lefty will open the door to the room where the creepy sound is coming from.  Who knew that a princess song could be sung even more fittingly by a zombie?

The rabbit groans as he begins searching the bedroom. The whole song suddenly made him feel like he was in the old Raskin Bass The Hobbit animated movie for some reason. Not that he knew what that was. Maybe it was something he saw at one of the places Pip dragged him.  " chip the glasses crack the plates thats what bilbo baggins hates thats what bilbo baggins hates  so carefully carefully with the plates plunt the knives and bend the forks smash the bottles burn the corks thats what bilbo baggins hates so carefully carefully with the plates . " the rabbit sings to himself quietly as he searches.

"Well at least at this point anything short of a god flattening the tower with a life sized tarrasque statue would be an anti-climax." Though even an anti-climax can result in someone getting killed. A serious job hazard for moody immortal wizards ever getting a steady girlfriend for example.

Re: [[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

What Mittens and Chestnut found behind that door was not a zombie.  (Background sound: Awwwww)

What they did find in a room that looked like a mechanic's lab instead was a suit of armor that would've been able to move on its own if it weren't for the chains holding its arms wide to its sides.  All the chain sounds you heard was this animated armor pulling at them.

When Mittens and Chestnut entered the room, the Armor stopped pulling, stopping all the chain sounds.  Its head turned to the pair, as if wondering what brings them here.

On closer look, they found that the chain had a lock on it, and there's a panel in the chest-plate on the armor.

Meanwhile, Meiou didn't find anything of note in the room he's in, but he does know of the staircase in the room before.

Chetnut commends Meiou. "Good to hear you singing, Meiou." and goes for an arm around the rabbit.

Chestnut stares at the armor. "Not a zombie. But animated armor is pretty cool! Sorry, James, but animated armor is not anticlimax material to me." To be fair, most things are not anticlimax material for a kender.

He trots over to the armor, staying just out of kicking distance. "Can you talk? If not, then just shake your head like so." he demonstrates a head-shake.

Mits grins to Meiou's song, giving a thumbs-up for the awesome reference.  "There And Back Again," is one of her favorite stories!

The enthusiastic adventurer cheers when she finds she was wrong about it being a zombie!  "Awesome!"

She turns to James with a "what the heck?!" look on her face.  "Love how you go from a single zombie to 'life-sized tarrasque statue god smite!'"

Not to be out-done, Lefty wants to stand up for Mittens.  "The Panda... exaggerates... better."

They can't all be winners.

The rabbit shivered and shook his head hearing James " Do not give them ideas! I once saw a whole temple get coated in caramel sauce cause Pip mocked at how not even that could stop him from 'borrowing' the artifact housed inside. That stuff is like impossible to move through without boots of levitation or free movement or Kicks of awesome ice cream topping running. Don't ask me about the last. I didn't name them.   "That's okay, Mittens exaggerates consistently, and shall win the marathon.".

Huh.  Chained up could still mean faces ripped off as a possibility, but then it's probably a rather sad example of spooky armor/armored person if chains have been a problem for it.  At least Chestnut is pleased.

"Meiou, why do most of your stories about Pip seem to involve some form of BS, only for him to want to prove he's even bigger BS? That said, clearly wasn't as much of a hinderance as you claim if you now how to get past it."
