I am Justin Mercurial and I am in need of assistance.

My father, the Burgomaster of the village of Parnast, has passed away and his position is willed to me. However, banditry has become rampant in the vicinity. I ask that you join me in dealing with this threat and assist me in restoring the village after my father’s death.

I will pay 10 Gold up front for expenses, 100 Gold for the completion of the job, and the opportunity for you to stay in the village as a residence.

Meet me as soon as you can at the Crossed Axes Inn. Breakfast will be provided before departure.

Justin Mercurial and Darcy Ambergail

When you arrive at the Inn in question (In Roll 20), you find out that the people you're trying to meet are being accosted by a quartet of bandits (Using the standard Stat Block found in the Monster Manual, p.343:  AC is 12, 11 Hit Points, Attacks with Scimitar and Light Crossbow)

It is time for the most famous words in all of RPGs:  Players, Roll for Initative!

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

"This looks like the place!" a cat-like adventurer had proclaimed outside the building with a Crossed Axes sign as she dismounted her warhorse.

Her red wizard outfit looked just about as suited for a duel as for casting spells. ( Similar to this: https://cdna.artstation.com/p/...izard.jpg?1421058302  only with a symmetrical cape and a more cavalier hat like so: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pini...52bc1aeebc9dd21e.png )

"I'm sooo hungry," one of the children following her and the kender bard around complained.

The horse whinnied and nodded in agreement.  Mits chuckles.  "They did say free breakfast.  Let's go in and get some noms!"

The horse is led to a watering trough and the Mits steps inside.

"Look!" one of the little orbs of light floating around the mage exclaims when the bandits come into view

"Eeep!" the children exclaim, rushing back outside.

Mittens' left sock puppet addresses her.  "You think they're the boring type who surrender when clearly out-classed?  I sure hope not!"

(The right sock puppet mumbles something, but has a staff in it's "mouth" )

Mits points her staff dramatically and proclaims in a heroic tone, "Bandits!  If it be a fight that your stomachs are yearning for why, Mittens is the chef for you all!  And she will beat the four of you heartily!"

Then she began to twirl her staff right merrily.  Which somehow looked like a two-headed sock puppet dragon trading noms on a stick.

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

Popping out of the kitchen munching on a small meat pie was the rabbitfolk. "Whats all the racket out here? Bandits...Really? REALLY?! I would like you to leave now before I have to hurt you for trying this on my turf boys." He said as he hopped the counter revealing himself fully to them. He dressed in a black tunic with red trim and black leather pants and boots a shiny gold bracelet on his wrist.

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

One child stays inside the inn. A little elf boy... well he is actually a kender, but he looks so much like an elf child that the only clue he might not be is the fact he stays for combat and is about to break out some musical magic.

Chestnut loves Mittens. "I love you, Mittens."

He is also very open and honest, it seems. XD And to further make people think he's just some kid, he has the voice of a little boy too.

The little guy pulls out a violin made of platinum with gold strings, unsheathes his rapier and begins playing the violin using his rapier as a violin bow. He starts playing a tune...

Chestnut adds, "I'd listen to the pretty kitty and the cutie bunny if I were you. Just curious: What is it you guys want anyway?"

Rather suddenly, it sounds like more than just his violin emits from him as his violin is accompanied magically by backup music!*

*Here is the tune he is playing. The accompaniment mentioned in the post kicks in on the 20th second of the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-TUufvK0gU

Since the class feature "Bardic Performance" doesn't exist in 5e, I count this entire post as flavor and so can happen even if my turn hasn't come up yet.

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

A young man with brown hair, a stubble beard, and goggles wearing leather armor, rugged clothes, and a brown apron stands back to back with a blond woman wearing a full body suit of chain mail under a cleric's tabard.

"Now listen, guys,"
the young man said. "I don't want any trouble, I just want to get back home to Parnast.  You want me to buy you some drinks."

"The only thing we want to drink, Justin,"
one of the Bandits answered, "is your blood off or your skull, and Parnast is Our Home now.  You get back to that island Wonderland where you belong, boy!"

"These guys mean business, Justin," the cleric said, "but the Dragons have graced us with some assistance."

With the Initiatives rolled, here is the order:
Meiou, Bandit 4, Chestnut, Bandit 1, Mittens, Bandit 2, James Hill, Bandit 3, {Justin + Darcy}
Justin and Darcy always share Initiative 0 due to being allies.

Meiou, you're up.

In reply to meiou (msg # 7):

"You deal with Hasenpheffer there,"
Bandit 4 responds, "I'll go after the boy's girlfriend here."  He managed to poke his rapier through the cleric's chain mail, dealing a hit.

quote:
Bandit 4 attacks Darcy with a 19, hitting for 3 points of damage.

As the cleric cries out, so does the young man, "Darcy!  That's it, do what you want with me, but Darcy's off limits!"

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

To the blood-drinking comment, Chestnut says, "That sounds unsanitary."

Chestnut is lightly conflicted. On one hand, it is the right of a man to stand up for his girl. On the other hand, it is Meiou's right to kill evil men who talk about him like he is a dish. On the other other hand, Chestnut is also ticked off at a man who would stab a lady just for being the girlfriend of the one you are actually after.

Still, there is a badguy right in front of Chestnut's buddy Meiou and he will not allow this guy to survive long enough to retaliate.

With a burst of speed, Chestnut hurries over to Meiou's side and runs the enemy through with his rapier (killing him), not missing a beat for the tune he was playing, and then resumes the music. "The bunch of you don't equal half the man your mom was." he comments to the enemies.

Mits was so flabbergasted by the stupid crazy bandits, that she lost herself for most of the round.  https://birdsongmag.files.word...et_2_small.jpg?w=450  But Chestnut's insult forces a laugh out of her, and she's back in business!  The eager adventurer jumps from bar stool to bar stool to get past the brave men taking the front...

"Oh it's a drink of blood you all are wanting?!  Enjoy!"

With a fancy staff twirl, swing, and loud CRACK! Mits thwaps the third bandit soundly on the head, forcing him to bite his own tongue!

Her left sock puppet rears its' head and readies a terrible joke should any of the bandits attack Mittens.  https://hydra-media.cursecdn.c...e06a9c04573cc32548c3

(( Bandit 3 takes 5 bludgeoning damage.  If the bandits manage to get past Mittens' 17AC, she'll cast shield as a reaction for an effective 22AC total. ))

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

As dramatic declarations and flashy actions ensure around him, the second lowest rolled initiative in the room finally ticks over.

"I'm not exactly paid by the hour to keep the rabbit out of trouble these days.  But preventing your friends from being stabbed as much as possible is kind of habit forming."

A 'paltry 2 slashing' is still pretty significant, given how some of his acquaintances don't even have the luxury of double digit health yet.  So comparatively plain James takes offense to this.

The guy that calling a 'knight' would be overly generous walks over, and swings his maul in an overhand arc that spares the furniture, if not the bandit's bone structure.  Fatally flattening the bandit that hurt Chestnut with the practical consideration of leaving all the bleeding an internal variety.

Showy? No.  Makes life easier for the poor tavern staff later? Yes.

"If the dragons want credit for our arrival lady, they can come here to say it themselves." Now, actual acts of a Dragon oriented cleric like Darcy? Worth qualifying by proxy.  But the Dragons hardly need to steal credit where not due for everyone to remain impressed by them.

OOC: Hit vs Bandit 1. Lucky double 6's 17 DMG, so no more Bandit 1.  Then I remember that'd one-shot myself even with damage resists with Level 1 Hitpoints, and I feel less impressed with myself.

Bandit 3, then Justin/Darcy next

Even with the Shield, Bandit 3's attack falls short.

Bandit 3 Misses with an 11

With a couple silent curses at the bandits for ruining a decent continental breakfast, Justin draws his Short Sword and swipes at Bandit 4.

Hits with a 14, delivering 5 Slashing

Darcy uses a Healing Word to tend to her wounds...

Healing Word: 9 Points of Healing

...Then swings at the Bandit who stabbed at her with her Mace.

[[AE--LAoP]]Day 1

The rabbit moved swiftly over the dead body and between companions to a good spot using the command words to activate his bracelet exchanging his sword for his crossbow he took careful aim. "HEY BANDIT GUESS WHAT!?" as the bandit turned to face him from Darcy he fired the bolt hitting him square in the chest. " Oh wait guess you can't. Maybe in the next life you don't call me hassenphafer."

He carefully takes this opportunity to reload his crossbow asking for cover from the others as he does.

(  7 piercing dmg to 4 killing him. Just shows you don't call him food :p )

OOC: With #4 dead, that means Chestnut is up!

Chestnut reads Meiou's cue and immediately puts himself between Meiou and bandit 3. Then stabs the guy, downing him. "I... um... OK? I was hoping we could take one alive to track down their boss." He takes a quick glance around. "Everyone OK?" apparently the adrenaline has caused him to forget he is the only one currently wounded.

(10 piercing dmg to bandit 3, ends the combat)
