Klale, I'll need you to roll once for each object you are attempting to forge or each glyph you are attempting to infuse an object with.

Toben, you will need to roll once for each of the following for each forge set you enchant.  A forge set will contain 3 anvils, 1 forge kiln, 3 hammers, 5 tongs, 2 bellows.  The multiple numbers indicate differing sizes.  All of these things will be included in one forge being enchanted, one set of rolls.  You will need to roll:

* Craft Weaponsmithing or Armorsmithing with a +2 synergy bonus for having 5 in both.  DC 20.
* Knowledge Arcana DC 20.
* Profession: Blacksmith.  DC 20.  You get +2 for each of the dwarves helping you.

You may add Klale's Ranks (not total bonus) to any skill check that he has Ranks in of the above 3 rolls.  Whatever rolls he helps with are days he cannot forge other items or glyphs because he will be helping you.  Klale, you also get skill XP for helping Toben instead of the glyphs or items.

Toben, you will also have to forge one of the magical gems in your possession into each forge granting that forge a +5 to forge/enchant that school of enchantment into the object being forged.

You will also need to take Craft Wondrous Item the next time you can take a metamagic feat.

You will also need to expend 250xp for each forge you craft.  Xp is spent at the beginning of the attempt whether you succeed or fail.

Each forge will take a day to upgrade.  You can expend an additional day to add +1 to any one roll.  Additional days will add one additional +1 to any one roll.

When completed, all forges will be able to forge weapons, armor, or metal items with a +1 bonus or equivalent enchantment based on the school of the gem crafted into the forge.

If all we are doing now is getting the forge crafting set up, then we will need to get back to Shock's cave to free Delunar and that is its own set of rolls.  Everyone will be needed there for that, not just Toben.

Klale has 9 ranks  in blacksmithing, not counting the +2 for INT.

He has 10 skill points available. Since he has done both a weapon and a helm, maybe he could use them as five of each.

He'd have +2 for INT in Aracana.

IMO, it would make far more sense for Klale to hep Toben than work on glyphs. Then Klale would, I guess, reforge his plate armor hoping for masterwork and the +1 AC bonus.

I have an old message sabot xp skills and skill po9ints, but I wasn't sure how it worked despite the explanations written somewhere. Than I never herd more about it, so thought it had been dropped:

1 XP blacksmithing.

Heal +1xp

You get one skill xp to add toward Use Device, Disable Divice, Engineering, or any one other skill that seems appropriate for the gate gears.

You each get one skill xp to add to Handle Animal for wise handling of the animals during and after the flight from the tower courtyard.

I'm currently running numbers on skills for Toben as well. I haven't applied skill points for the last level he got, so he's got some wiggle room.

Toben will definitely need assistance with the blacksmithing skill, and it's a toss-up on the weapon/armor crafting roll. With some skill point investment in weapon crafting, he should be able to cover that one as well. He's got the Arcana skill locked in.

Given the nature of the task, Eru has also informed me that we can take 10s on these rolls, so that will help a great deal if we can if all the synergy can get Toben up to a 10 before a die roll.

Since each attempt is going to cost Toben 250 xp, I'm trying to leave little to no room for failure :)

Eru, I need to go back over those gem again. Some were identified, but several were too high for him at the time. We might need to revisit those now that he's gotten a new level and see which ones would be most appropriate to infuse in the forge.

Klale, the basics of the skill xp works this way.

1)  Skills can increase in Ranks normally.  Every level you get some points based on your class that you can spend to buy ranks to get better at that skill.

2)  As you use skills, you get experience points in that skill.  Every time you successfully use a skill, you get 1 Skill XP (noted out to the right side of your character sheet on the line of that skill.

3)  As soon as Skill XP equals your total modifier, then you get one Experience Point Rank (XPR) which acts like a Rank and it increases your overall modifier (and the amount of skill xp you need to get the next XPR).

It's a way to reward players for using certain skills instead of guessing which skills might be useful somewhere in the campaign maybe.

Ah, so I see. Who does the skill XP? Mine only has 1 skill XP on it, in Blacksmithing.

While everyone is working on their projects Ano will spend sometime with the dragons.  He asks shock to introduce him a couple of times.  He will learn what he can about them.

He will also ask shock if she can identify the fish scale mask he has.

OK. I'll take a shot at it too.

Ryland will be back at the tavern playing and trying to gather information on as much as he can from drunk patrons (why dwarves are there, what they're arming themselves against, the "bad" dragons, etc)

Toben is all set, skills are in order, and ready to begin the forge crafting process.

He's got the arcane knowledge and the crafting skill check covered.
He'll need to use Klale's synergy for the smithing skill check.

As soon as I get some more clarity on the remaining unidentified gems, he'll choose one to infuse within the forge. An evocation gem, most likely.

Ideally, I think it would be nice to make up to 3 forges. Each one focused on a different school of magic. Evocation, abjuration, and possibly transmutation, but we'll see how the first one goes. :)

Mithral is a very rare silvery, glistening metal that is lighter than iron but just as hard. When worked like steel, it becomes a wonderful material from which to create armor and is occasionally used for other items as well. Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations. Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. Spell failure chances for armors and shields made from mithral are decreased by 10%, maximum Dexterity bonus is increased by 2, and armor check penalties are lessened by 3 (to a minimum of 0).

An item made from mithral weighs half as much as the same item made from other metals. In the case of weapons, this lighter weight does not change a weapon’s size category or the ease with which it can be wielded (whether it is light, one-handed, or two-handed). Items not primarily of metal are not meaningfully affected by being partially made of mithral. (A longsword can be a mithral weapon, while a scythe cannot be.)

Weapons or armors fashioned from mithral are always masterwork items as well; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below.

Mithral has 30 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 15.

I'm unsure how to proceed. It seems the dwarves are readying for war, but they have given no details. If the baddie dragons or such are readying bad stuff, what are the goodie dragons doing/thinking?

Okay, so infodump time.

There are roughly three hundred dwarves here in the Heath helping the dragons gear up for a fight with the evil dragons.  As it stands, the non-aligned dragons (they don't refer to themselves by a moral standard) are typically younger and more numerous.  There is, at present count, one hundred and twenty non-aligned dragons, most of them under five hundred years old.

They are led by a loose council of five dragons including Shock, who is the youngest.  There is one other young dragon on the council and three older dragons (over 1000 - remember the end of the 3rd age).  None of them are as powerful as Smaug.

The bound dragons (evil dragons) are all over a thousand with a couple of exceptions.  There are less than fifty of them.  Two of them have achieved Smaug-level power since the end of the 3rd age.  Think in terms Great Wyrms.  They are joined by this dragon master who has some kind of relationship with the dragons.  Many say he controls them since he can be seen riding one or another of them, even the "great wyrms" from time to time over the border between the two territories of the Heath.  The bound dragons are known for their egos and would not easily allow a humanoid ride them.  They'd far more likely just eat them.

The only thing that has kept the bound dragons from wiping out the non-aligned is that Melkor's power has not been strong enough to overcome their natural distrust toward one another and hence their isolation.  However, that has also been observed coming to an end as more and more bound dragons have been seen flying together in formation.  Their forays into the non-aligned lands have been getting deeper and deeper.  Any day now, they may start attacking in force.  The younger dragons stay clear of the border lands, but eventually, they will have to push back or leave the Heath.

Yes, there is no reason he would have held on to them after returning to the forges. For now, we can say that Klale got Dragonhaste and Toben has Malfandar.

Something came to mind when the thought of grounding dragons came up. What about dragon-sized bolas launched from the backs of dragons? Perhaps the fastest, as Klale mentioned, could carry these and attempt to use them against the other side. For them, they'd be one-shot uses, but you could also have some land-based launchers that could be reloaded.

Seems like something the dwarves might be able to craft, if they aren't completely focused on arms and armor.

Totally doable.  I'd argue that the dragons in flight would be the ones to use them as the contraption to launch them would be flight prohibitive.  On the ground, you could have a more ballistae-esque launcher to reload.  Probably 1 round to fire, 1 round to cock, 1 round to load.  Extra rounds spent to increase accuracy?

I was going to post but this have been hectic.  I'm good to move forward.   Ano will join the assault in the air with the dragons and attempt to find Voroch Hastir.  If he is one of the discords I will try to get him to the grounds Klale and I can work together.

Klale's problem is that he cannot be sure where the dragon battle will be. However, it may be that he can hitch a ride and be dropped off just before the battle. Even then, there's no assurance that he can get where he is needed in time.

Klale and Ano, this weekend I am compiling the dragon armies and their abilities as well as sketching out the beginning of the coming engagements.  I will not post in the main thread unless either of you have posts/conversations you wish to have during the build up period.  If no posts are made, I hope to post up the beginning of the fight by Monday morning.

However, I have a powerfully important event coming up this Thursday and a lot of my mind will be focused on that.  I apologize for the delay, but I want this to be cool, not just off the cuff tossed out there.

Alright gentlemen, it seems that RPOL.net is doing a server xfer here in the next few days.  I'm shutting down all games until the xfer is complete.  I HIGHLY recommend you backup your character sheets and any pertinent information in a Notepad file.  I will be doing this with all threads and character sheets as well.

Klale goes back to plan what to do and to relay the good news [I hope]. The ground-based dragons should start out during the day, going as far as they dare and hide to rest. Their mission will be to mob any grounded enemy dragon. Some dragons, the fastest flyers will be sent out as scouts. Then the rest will rest and fly so as to arrive when the sun is one length above the horizon. "Can any of you carry me? Or maybe two, taking turns?"

This should be posted in the main thread.  Is your intent for them to gather an hour before sundown?  Remember, the death dragons are weaker in sunlight.

Yes, you will know some basics about trolls.  First, they are very strong.  They come in several varieties.  Mountain and Hill trolls can stand the daylight.  Stone and cave trolls cannot.  Stone trolls turn to actual stone if caught in direct sunlight.

Klale will also remember the trolls from the battle at Therion.  Most were hill trolls, smaller and dumber than the one's he heard about growing up, but they could fight in the daylight.  He will also remember the troll mages, who regenerated against non-magical weapons, but not magical weapons nearly as well, and fire not at all.

The dragons are looking to Klale and Ano for leadership.  The way they act, it appears more and more that though they have a lot of knowledge, they are more equivalent to teenagers in mentality.

I need an action.

Because Klale acted slower, he would not have had time to point the sword up.

He definitely is able to ignore the damage and throw off the G. Darkmantle as part of the reactive grapple roll.

If he does not move, he may use one action to ready his sword after the grapple and make one attack this round.  If he does not engage in a grapple again, he may use his full attack against the G. Darkmantle next round.

What kind of roll would I make for the Shochraos'altiui Strike

You roll the skill check of the same name.  For every 5 points you roll, you get to add 1d12 to your DEX Mod for damage.  Also, when you use it, you get to add 1 Skill XP.  Currently, you have 0/4 XP.  4 uses and it will gain an XP Rank and become more powerful.

I'm just trying to figure out what the skill check is.  In the page for the skill it says Attack is made using the skill check as the attack roll versus the AC of all applicable targets.

Do i use my range attack or melee attack or something else?

It's this line on your character sheet under skill list:

The lord is Melkor. I'm guessing that people have heard tales of Melkor etc. and call this world Arda.

Arda is a familiar term.  Melkor is a very very ancient word that Klale and Ano likely don't know from growing up and general history.  It's an elfish name lost in ages past since he goes by Morgoth in the more recent histories.

Even Morgoth is a dark fairy tale by the third age as Sauron is the most potent enemy left in the world by the time of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

That sucks.  Sorry to hear it.

As I told the other two (who I know in real life), it's not as bad as all that.  I actually feel a big weight gone.  Didn't know I was miserable in that line of work (teaching) until I was on the outside looking in.  I'm going to work with my wife for a while on her business and then when she's going great, get back in to game design.  I've already got a potential 10 million dollar kickstart project professionally designed with a company ready to build it if I get the backing.  It's based in my novel universe.  I've also got a d10 table top system I've been working on for almost 2 years now and its in the final stages of alpha testing.  I have to get a good array of spells up, but the base mechanics and all the rest are good to go.  It's level-less and classless and I think fairly easy to learn and go.

So anyway, it's more of a positive than a negative.  However, as I focus on my wife's business and stabilizing us financially, my posts may be a bit erratic.  Like I said, just give me reminders here in OOC or in PMs for what you need.  The game will continue.  It's about to open up to a whole new level of storyline.  All threads are on the verge.  Chapter 9 is going to be, hopefully, awesome!

I think we have a problem. Because we players know about the dischord of fire, it seems Aashera is lying. However, would our kindly Gm really want us to fight her and five dragons, or could it be that the dragons are just waiting to dispose of her?

I dont think she is lying so far they seem pretty up front.


DM I'll take 10 on all 6 checks. For a total of 20.  The fact that they waited for her to allow them to speak is really all I needed to see.

I'm not sure I understand what the issue is, Klale.  Could you expand on what it is you see?  Ano asked about the Song of Fire, not the Dischord.
