Serena nodded.

"Thank you for helping me inspect it. I also want to give a gem to both you and Artem from these 6 for sticking it out with me too. You guys were in nearly as much danger as I was. The rest I intend to split evenly between all of us back at camp."

She held out the ring for him to look at.

Ero pulls out his spellbook.  It's small, the length of a hand.  He opens it to the second page.

"This will take several minutes," he says as he sits crosslegged on the floor.

Ritual:  Identify on ring.

Oh, and THOUSANDTH!

Re: The Road to Phandalin

There are enough people still around to keep an eye on the goblins. They've all surrendered, so none of them are fighting.

If any of you are still feeling blood-thirsty, you can go kill the owlbear in the corner tower or the grick in the goblin shrine.

Ero takes the rings and attempts to identify it through his spell.

The first thing that becomes obvious to him is that it was created by an ancient Human wizard named Kalima Tomoko. It has the minor properties of Song Craft and Unbreakable. He also picks up a residual echo of the bugbear trying to attune the ring to himself; apparently the reason he wasn't wearing the ring is because when he attacked someone, he kept hearing these snippets of a song in his head, which he found very annoying and was afraid it was cursed.

As the minutes go by, Ero is able to pull more and more of the ring's secrets out of it. The easiest property he can identify is protection (+1). The second property is much more difficult to unveil... as it seems to be Bardic in nature. He's finally able to figure out that it doubles the effectiveness of a Song of Rest.

He thinks there's a third property, but it's a lot harder to extract. He does, however, think it has to do with the Song Craft property.

The drow seems to have vanished. No one saw her leave, but in the chaos, it would have been easy for her to slip out one of the two exits.

Gundren and his bodyguard and back in the ruins with the rest of you.

(Bad week; I'll have to get to Artem, Cunaar, Maldor and Mithra vs. the hobgoblins and wolves tomorrow.)

Re: The Road to Phandalin

Death to Hobgoblins!

Cunaar casts a Sleep spell at the lead hobgoblin and wolf. The wolves aren't big enough that the hobgoblins can ride them, though, so he only puts the wolf to sleep. (Not enough on your roll to cover both of them, and the hobgoblin has a slightly better Con bonus, so that's why the wolf goes to sleep.)

Both Maldor and Mithra miss, but Artem hit the hobgoblin he attacks. That's not enough to take it down; they usually require 2 or 3 hits.

23:21, Thu 14 May 2015: StarMaster rolled 14,5,10 using 1d20+2,1d20+2,1d20+2 ((12,3,8)).

Apparently still a bit disoriented by surprise of being attacked in their own backyard, all three of those that were attacked miss on their attacks.

The fourth one can't reach Cunaar this round; the wolf could have, but it's asleep.

Next round: batters up!

The thought of missing did not occur to Maldor, nor did he have time to fret about it. He swings his greatclub roundhouse style at his foe, aiming for his torso.

18:07, Thu 14 May 2015: Maldor rolled 9 using 1d20+3 ((6)).

Fate frowned upon the fighter. Another miss! Mal growled, the deep utterance echoing out of his thick throat. His next swing would be a success. His opponent would rue the day he faced Maldor!

Before the last one can engage with Cunaar he launches a bolt of fire at him that will give him something to think about. Flames lick at his clothing but fail to ignite that which is on his person.

17:23, Today: Cunaar Clothar rolled 19 using 1d20+6. Fire Bolt.
17:23, Today: Cunaar Clothar rolled 2 using 1d10.

Though it hit its mark the resulting damage does not take it out thus he must now defend.

Re: The Road to Phandalin

Artem hits again and delivers such a mighty blow that he slays the hobgoblin! The second wolf, however, bites Artem for 3 points.

Maldor and Mithra miss again.

Cunaar also hits a hobgoblin with his flame, but it's not nearly enough to take it out.

So there is one sleeping wolf and one dead hobgoblin, leaving 3 hobgoblins and one wolf still standing. The odds are now even!

I wasn't aware that Amiri had gone out with the ambush party; as far as I know, she's still inside the keep looking for the Drow!

Maldor is driven to do harm to the foe next to him. He cannot miss again.

"Arrrrr!" was the simple cry to get his blood boiling. He once again swings his greatclub.

10:25, Thu 21 May 2015: Maldor rolled 21 using 1d20+3 ((18)).

A sense of accomplishment, dark as it was, filled Mal with the success of his attack. Evil would be vanquished. His foe would harm no one else.

Does Cunaar have another burst of fire in him? And what's Mithra doing?

So, okay, everyone's got a dance partner now, right? And then Maldor goes and spoils it by killing his!

Not to be outdone, Mithra gives a mighty swing at the hobgoblin she's dancing with.

03:37, Wed 27 May 2015: Mithra Stormraven rolled 7,6 using 1d20+3,1d8+3 ((4,3)). Aaargh! A miss!

"Stand still, you blasted beastie!" she yells at the hobgoblin.

OOC-But of course, I guess I was expecting them to close on us and attack. Not thinning we had another shot.

With things getting more heated Cunaar adds to it with another blast of fire. Perhaps such use  of fire might cause the wounded wolves to break and run.

00:03, Today: Cunaar Clothar rolled 22 using 1d20+6. Fire Bolt.

Maldor's pride in his deadly blow only encouraged him to do more. He brought his greatclub down on whatever foe was nearest.

16:19, Wed 27 May 2015: Maldor rolled 18 using 1d20+3 ((15)).

"Largok ven!" the fighter exclaimed as he felt his large weapon connect upon his evil foe. For all Mal knew, he had never seen a bugbear before. Having lost his memory led to empty feelings. But, perhaps, it was the lack of fear that aided him in his delivery of justice against the opponents.

The stubborn hobgoblins were annoying her! Why wouldn't they just die?! She took another mighty swing at the hobgoblin she was fighting. Surprisingly, she hit it!

23:56, Mon 01 June 2015: Mithra Stormraven rolled 15,9 using 1d20+3,1d8+3 ((12,6)).

Even more surprisingly, it falls down! That's when she spots Maldor having also hit it.

"Good shot, Maldor!" she calls out to her fellow combatant!

Serena takes the ring back from Ero, and puts it onto her left hand now that she knows for sure it isn't cursed. She's actually quite intrigued with its bardic properties. She had never encountered a magical item attuned to bardic magic before. Music, sure she heard of that but true bardic stuff was a lot rarer.

"Yes. I'll stick these gems and coins in my packs for now and we can go try and find Artem and the rest and see if they need help. After you, good sir."

Cunaar had blasted the wolf with a bit of fire, and it probably would have run away except Artem nearly cut it in half with his axe.

Maldor and Mithra killed another hobgoblin, so now there is only one.

Maldor moves to that one and swings his club at it, hitting it for 9 points of damage.

It swings back at Maldor.

23:30, Wed 03 June 2015: StarMaster rolled 11 using 1d20+3 ((8)). It misses.

Artem and Mithra and Cunaar can attack it.

Focusing on the last hobgoblin standing Cunaar launches a firebolt at it, though going wide it could be considered a warning. Playing on this he calls out to it to give up.
