Where The Toys Are (Darrel. Khea and Tolman)

So the Count, Khea and the Count's new security guard, Tolman, take the Count's second car. Since he didn't specify a limo, he's got the equivalent of an SUV. The driver is optional.

Once in the car, Tolman feels secure enough to answer Darrel's earlier question.

"I believe the items you are looking for can be acquired at a rather prosaic place--the Army/Navy Surplus store," Tolman says to the Count.

Khea tries rather awkwardly to find a comfortable seat in the car and getting her tail out of the way while listening to Tolman half heartedly as she does not expect to find anything she needs and can use as Aslan on this world.

The car heads into the starport to the Army/Navy Surplus store. It's one of those utility stores that's open 24 hours a day since one never knows when they might need that sort of special equipment.

There's only a limited parking area, but this hour of the evening, the store isn't busy.

"Since I am your security, sir," Tolman says to the Count, "I recommend that we both go in. Your presence isn't really needed, but I can't provide security if we are separated. This is a 'no questions asked' kind of store. As long as you don't look crazed or sinister, Karter takes it at face value that you need what you are asking for."

"If you do go in, it's best to say nothing. Once you start trying to explain things, it makes you look suspicious, as if you have something to hide."

Re: Where The Toys Are (Darrel. Khea and Tolman)

While Khea had to negotiate with several such unsavory individuals in the past, all thanks to the Aslans twisted view of status, this explanation made her slightly nervous. Causing offense in such an area might have serious consequences.
While she regrets this thought, having rituals to resolve insults like in her home culture can be preferable to the uncertainty of how a humanity would react.

4 stun grenades.
6 stunsticks
2 sonic stun carbines
4 teargas grenades
2 tranq rifles with ammo

The Count enjoys this time, it's rare for him to get out without a chaperone/PR/fake smiling...Walter said we might need credits, is there anything here that fits that bill ...he walks around the store, basically window shopping...however, he does look for antique items that have low buy, high resell potential.

Re: Where The Toys Are (Darrel. Khea and Tolman)

Depending on what Khea is looking for, there are a few Aslan items. Besides Imperial Army and Navy surplus items, there are a few 'collector' items. These are individual items rather than anything in quantity.

If Darrel wants to be an arms dealer to backwards planets, then he could probably find a few bargains. Most of the equipment here is at rock-bottom prices and can probably be had for the same price on most starports.

There are a few antiques for sale. They are listed at rather high prices, but they could still turn a profit in the right circles. One item in particular looks like a Sarkassian battle knife, but Darrel thinks it might actually be an Iltharan relic. There's a subtle curve to the tip of the blade. It's been re-wrapped to suit someone's personal use. The last time he saw one of them was at auction. It sold for MCr10.

Re: Where The Toys Are (Darrel. Khea and Tolman)

Khea gives the few Aslan items a cursory inspections, knowing that a Vacc Suit would be too expensive even inside the Hierate let alone this store if it even carries a fitting one.
But that this store even had Aslan items and its nature could mean she could find some ammunition for her weapon here so when Tolman and Ron have conducted their business she asks "(Aslan)Fiya," (Anglic) "I want to inquire if you carry ammunition for a Takhestah and similar guns."

OOC: The Takhestah is a long pistol which uses the same type of ammo than my machine pistol. Considering the local law level its probably better to ask for pistol ammo than for an MP. Bad thing is, the magazines are not interchangeable.

When you ask for 320 rounds, he looks up in slight surprise, glances at the Count for a moment, perhaps as if he recognizes the Count, and then unlocks a cabinet under the counter. A moment later, he sets four boxes on the counter.

"Unless you want specific clips, I can only sell you boxes of 100," he explains. "I try to keep a small stock, but, as you can imagine, this particular item is difficult to get at the best of times."

"Cr100 a box."

For the Sarkassian battle blade, he's asking Cr6,000 but will probably sell it for Cr5,000.

The box of 100 rounds is loose bullets. He has clips, too; 20-round clip for Cr35. Essentially, the cost is Cr1 per bullet, plus the magazine cost, the loading cost, and then he has an up-charge because they are a bit difficult to acquire.

Re: Where The Toys Are (Darrel. Khea and Tolman)

The Count looks at the blade skeptically...He thinks, This has to be a knockoff/replica/counterfeit...Is it possible???

Darrel recalls stories, told by some of his "collecting" peers...Finding things like this in out-of-the-way, totally unexpected places...unknown treasures pawned by desperate owners fallen on by hard times...

One story stuck out in his mind, a veteran that had been involved in the clearing of an enemy position, strangely enough, it was located in a long abandoned ruin...after the fight, while resting against the trunk of a huge ancient tree, he felt something poke him in the back. He investigated and found a simple black piece of metal about the size of a deck of cards. He decided that was going to be his "lucky memento".

He carried it around for 20 years, surviving many campaigns against long odds, on a number of occasions he was the lone survivor, even coming back from several "suicide" missions.

As he was retiring, an unscrupulous business man conned him out of his savings, and he needed credits...He sold it to a friend for 1000Cr.

His friend gave it to his granddaughter as a wedding gift. As fate played a hand, she was one of the scientists that worked at a research station studying ancient artifacts.

One day while walking to work, she happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up in the middle of a gang-land firefight. As the firestorm of bullets cut down people left and right, with a clarity of mind that only genius scientists possess, she realized...the bullets were being diverted away from her.

The rest is history, although, at a top-secret level...estimated value of a personal force-shield ?????
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Count examines the blade, then puts it back on the counter, "Nice piece, but not worth the price...I'll give you 4KCr."

OOC: I'd like to evaluate the blade, I'm thinking INT mod (+2) + Melee blade skill(+1) ?

Re: Where The Toys Are (Darrel. Khea and Tolman)

"If you need that much protection," the man suggests to Khea, "there are a few Human weapons that have been modified to suit Aslan hands. I have such a modified SMG, which, I am told, is the equivalent of a khaifealate."

"A weapons expert explained it to me a few years ago. Humans need a balanced weapon, which is based on an individual's length of arm and musculature. That's why one often gets a feel for a particular gun."

"Generally, if you can't tell the difference, then you probably aren't that much of an expert with a gun."

"Aslan, on the other hand, have a different anatomy. In most cases, there's not a significant difference for most actions. In the case of handguns, however, that balance essential to Humans has a tendency to throw off an Aslan's accuracy. His natural tendency is to compensate for the weight."

He sets the SMG on the counter for Khea to examine.

"Extra material has been removed at the rear, so that the gun is front-heavy for Humans, but now feels 'balanced' to an Aslan. Also, the trigger guard has been enlarged and the trigger itself adjusted to accommodate an Aslan's hand and strength."

"The price is Cr500."

Darrel can't really determine if it's a genuine relic or not, just from a casual visual inspection. The hilt has been wrapped in a different material (dark green dphone hyde) to suit someone's larger hand. Underneath, it should still be wrapped in the original nagahyde from Iltharas. Without a scanning mass spectrometer, it'd be impossible to determine the authenticity.

He does know that it isn't the advertised battle blade; it's only similar in the way that all daggers are similar. Well, perhaps a bit more than that, but the crossguard is too small and the pommel is too large. However, they are consistent with the Iltharan dagger.

"No offense, sir, but I need to make a profit," the man replies. "However, I can accept Cr4,800."

A bit irritated from the tone of this salesman Khea ponders his offer while inspecting the gun.
"I assume that it take Humaniti bullets? This might come cheaper in the long run."

OOC: What are the stats of the gun? Aslan count in base 8 (because they have 4 fingers) so magazine sizes are mostly dividable by 8 while human weapons have magazine sizes dividable by 5 or 10 for example.

After arriving at the hotel, Darrel ponders...the goal is to awe, but not attract too much unwanted attention, figuring his "business" suit (gel cloth/SOC14 price) should be sufficient, the full-blown formal would probably be over the top.

He changes, allows time for Khea to freshen up and then will proceed to the Galahad.

EDIT NOTE: Considering the finer hotels, perhaps there's a clothing store inside that can outfit Khea?

A number of nearby hotels do, indeed, have clothing shops, but none of them have anything for Khea, though they do refer her to Galaxy Outfitters. As it turns out, it's an impressive multi-department store in The Spire. It takes up the first ten floors. They have a small section in the clothing department for Aslan clothing.

For Cr100, Khea can get something decent to wear. Of course, she can spend more if she wants to. GO isn't necessarily an upscale retailer, but it does sell upscale merchandise in many of its departments.
