Re: The Undersea Dome
He'd been talking to the guards. Well, they'd been doing the talking... and searching him. They found the commphone, of course. He'd set it back to normal ring tone after deleting all the messages and history. Not that they couldn't trace them back with the right equipment, or so he thought, but he didn't think that they'd have that capability here. Besides, the cavalry was on the way... right?
It was a chance he had to take, kind of. He hadn't been able to think of anything else to cause a distraction. When the commphone chirped its receipt of a text, one of the nearby guards had heard it... and recognized it for what it was. That was what Justeve was counting on. They'd want to know where he got the commphone.
Not being able to have or use a commphone had not been part of the agreement he'd signed. That was a restriction placed on him once they'd arrived at the dome. While he didn't think they'd do anything... violent to him, he still resented that restriction, so he'd managed to sneak his in. They'd only confiscated his second phone; it was an older model that he just hadn't got around to recycling.
With the phone turned off and the battery removed, scanners hadn't been able to pick up the signal or the GPS. He didn't put them back in for awhile, mostly because he'd actually been busy, mostly enjoying his work. It was the other stuff that bothered him.
Then he heard someone shouting. It was amplified; that wasn't normal. He was hoping it was the cavalry, but, in any case, it drew the guards away. As interesting as the place was for him to work, it was twice as boring for the guards, so that's why all of them had been checking him out. Also, the whole group was about to bug out. He'd not only been told that they were leaving, but he could sense it, even if they wouldn't tell him why.
So as the guards ran after the shout, he slipped out of the lab and through the door into the central operating room.
As soon as he dashed through the door, there were two people--one to either side. Armed.
Surprised to see them there, he was also happy that the chance he took might actually be paying off.
"Hello. I'm Justev. Fancy meeting you here," he quipped, hoping to disarm their intimidating if not outright aggressive stance.
