Re: Recovering A Long Shot

The Count thanks Ms. Blue for her call, and arranges a change to get another look at the Long Shot, in particular, the repair drones.

Darrell will also introduce his new bodyguard, Gregory Jones, who is replacing Tolman when he was reassigned.

quote:
Kaengarr, Too many furtive I-know-thems going around"
"I know Sharik and Pablo from an incident during the "shooting" of one of my propaganda vids, we formed a bond then, and it was only the divergent paths of our lives that we ended up going different ways...and then, in the strange ways of life...here we are again."

Listening to the different opinions, especially concerning the Long Shot, "Although there are a couple of things we need to give a closer look at, this ship, barring it's age, is far and away the best ship we could get if we take into account the "special" technology, and that's only the things we have seen, who knows what other technical surprises but be hidden. The fact of a 600 ton ship having Thrust-6, in and of itself, makes me vote for it."

quote:
We don't have to keep it if we buy it. Barter it for one we want at Outpost

Turning back to Kaengarr, "And I agree, we get the Long Shot, go to Outpost, and if we find something better, we trade out. It seems like a win-win."

Kaengarr Ruzokh:
"I want to hear who I'm working with! Too many furtive I-know-thems going around,"

Vonon turns a frown towards Kaengarr, but responds to the traders question.

"I was born and raised in Cassandra's Belt." Vonon answers, "I enlisted young into the Space Patrol and spent twenty years chasing through the asteroids busting claim jumpers and hunting pirates."

Vonon pauses to smirk at Kaengarr.

"Though I, myself, had never left the Belt, we often hosted allied fleets for months at a time.  That's how I met Sharik and Pablo, here.  Shar'r was serving with the Imperial Navy when we met; and I met the Marine gorilla, over there, when a Carrillian Assembly task force came for a visit."

"I was a Commander in the Patrol when I retired and decided to do some travelling amid the nearer stars. But the first thing I had to do, as an old vacuum-dwelling Rock-Hound, was come here to Grendal and see an entire world covered in water. To someone of my background, this is unthinkably wasteful-looking -- all that usable water just laying there!"

Re: Recovering A Long Shot

Sir Walter listened in to the offer from Ms Blue and waited as the Count completed it. "The offer of trading our shares and less than a million credits for a 600 ton vessel is something we can not pass up. We could even use the money that we have now to pay it off and not have to worry about payments other than fuel and whatever modifications we make. Hell, I might even try to buy it myself." he said

"I would suggest that for the time being that we keep modifications to a minimum, like adding more fuel processors, but we have plenty of room to play with and the jump-3 gives us a far better range if we need to be some place in a hurry..." he said before trailing off in thought about the possibility of purchasing the vessel himself.

Pablo was in the midst of giving Vonon a mock glare when Darrel agreed with
Walter. The ex-marine was still leery of a ship that went against his ingrained assumptions about how starships worked, but that didn't stop him from saying, I vote for the Long Shot also. With the caveat that I'd still like to go to Outpost and see what we can manage there."

Sir Walter nods in agreement. "I would suggest that we get it free and clear before we tear it apart. Something is not right about it and it would not do us any good to have a part break that we can not get fixed. We might want to pay a social call at the navy base on Outpost and have them check it out just to be safe."

In reply to Walter Zeller (msg # 319):

"I'm in for the Longshot." Vonon adds, then looks at both Keangarr and Khea, "Just think of the high-value cargoes we'll be able to offer 'safe, secure transport' to in that thing. Never mind that it's already set up for asteroid mining."

Vonon stretches his muzzle in a wide smile, "And did I mention I grew up in an asteroid belt?"

Re: Recovering A Long Shot

"Cargoes and passengers. Twelve staterooms and ten of us, so room for fourteen," Kaengarr added, relaxing a little now that the decision had effectively been made. "Yes, double occupancy. We're going to need it. The Long Shot has good specs for the most part, at least on paper, but cargo space for the hull size isn't one of them, and the costs are going to add up once we start burning all that fuel. Maybe we can get refit some things and get rid of the bits we don't need, though." He paused and let out a low, thoughtful rumble as he weighed that thought against another one.

"It should also be better armed. Maybe it's just the Gvegh in me, but two turrets on six hundred tons feels bare-bones even for a cargo ship, and if we're 'troubleshooters' then we'll need the firepower at some point. Even so, I like the idea. Out there again with the closest thing we'll find to a Packet," he concluded with a broad sweep of his hand.

"Well, if we are going to be troubleshooters, taking on passengers might not be an option as they could be endangered during our activities." he said. "While it would be some extra revenue, the money maker is cargo. Cargo goes where it can generate the most profit, passengers go where they want to go. We have not heard from some of the others on the crew and would like their input." Sir Walter said as he turned to the ladies. "Your thoughts Sharik or Samantha?" "

Uncomfortable with Kaengarr's question Khea is happy to switch the topic and delay talking about her past until the first jump.
I insist on also inspecting the ship thoroughly. After all I have to keep it flying.

"We won't be carrying passengers or cargo while we're troubleshooting. Except maybe on the way back," Kaengarr rumbled quietly. After all, the word, when broken into its constituent parts, pretty much covered what it involved.

Sam shrugged in reply to Walters question "I fly. Don't do accounts. All I know is passengers are strangers on a small ship, and previous experience suggests that can be awkward. As for making more money off cargo - thats your bag Walter. I fly, try and deal with trouble." She sank some more beer "I can also shoot"

Smiling at Kaengarr's statement, "Never say never, but, I do agree in concept, especially about passengers. However, since it seems the voting is leaning towards the Long Shot and proceeding to Outpost, we should at least get cargo that would sell high there." Looks at Sir Walter.

"Manufactured goods of most types on Grendal would be lucrative at Outpost since there is not much of an industrial base, given the small size and atmosphere of the system." Sir Walter said "Most of the common electronic and parts that can be found here can find a buyer there. If everyone is in agreement, let us complete the purchase of the Longshot, grab some cargo and get out of here. I know that some of you have been looking into cargoes and I will take your information along with what else we find and try to acquire the most valuable ones so we can have a cushion for any upgrades that we might have or repairs that are needed"

To Sir Walter, "We'll leave it to you to figure out and find the best cargo for us to carry to Outpost."

The Count contacts the appropriate agencies to get one final last inspection done, and if satisfied, to arrange the purchase of the Long Shot.

OOC:There are a number of players that haven't specifically agreed or disagreed to the purchase.

Re: Recovering A Long Shot

Sharik had been staring at the ship specifications for a long moment.  Her gaze intense enough to make one wonder if she were trying to bore her way into some greater inner truth on the matter.  She chew slowly on a piece of bacon that she'd nicked from somewhere.

"If," she noted slowly, when a lull in the general din occurred, "and it is is a big 'If', these engineering specifications are correct, then the ship is likely worth the price."  The diminutive dilettante glanced around the room, as it seemed that everyone had voiced an opinion except her.  "I'd love to take her for a test drive." Shar noted rather deadpan as she'd not had the luxury of really seeing what the ship could actually do, having been on the Rock-hopping Dancer on the return to Grendal.

She shrugged with respect to introductions, deferring to the descriptions of the others with respect to any common connections.  Nothing that the Count, Vonon or Pablo had said about how any of them had met her was incorrect; so, she felt little need to add any more detail.  She'd been a 'person of leisure' long enough to know that perceptions were one thing.  And her areas of competency were quite another.  She'd shown that she could manage to find her way around ship's bridge pretty easily.  Sharik figured that would do for now.

"As for a destination," she noted, glancing back down at the dataglove and the literature on the Long Shot, "I do agree that Outpost would make a fine first stop.  Ideal in a number of ways."  Though she failed to elaborate, though a number of reasons had already been given by various parties in the room.  Still, obviously quiet for most of the time, the cosmopolitan socialite had been listening.

Re: Recovering A Long Shot

Casey and Darrel meet at the bank where all the legal transfers are made. There's a 10-day lemon clause--if you aren't satisfied with the purchase, the deal is null and void.

So once you have signed the documents, you can take the ship for all the test drive you want. It's yours, so if you jump out of system, no one will care.

OOC:We'll be able to figure the monthly payments once we clarify the full number of ship shares.

After making the arrangements, "Let's get together on-board the ship, checkout everything we can on the ground, then a test-flight," smiling at the pilots. "One thing, if you have any personal things you want to get done before we finally leave Grendal for Outpost, let's try to make sure to knock those things out. Before I forget, I think I've found a contact to pick up some goody gear at Outpost, so, it might make sense to hold off on any major personal purchases until we get there, but of course that's your call."

Looking at Sir Walter, "Your call on the cargo, if you think it might help, I could assist you in the brokerage."
OOC:I have Broker-3/Persuade-5 (with augments/programs), does using task chaining sound ok?

While Khea technically served as shipmaster on a trader she also doesn't pay much attention to the actually haggling going on. She is still to fascinated and confused by all the technological marvels this century old ship has to offer.

This fascination is also the reason why SamanthaKilgores claim irritates her so much.
"Why do you insist on flying an old ship which has likely flown more than 8000 times first? Especially as we do not even understand all the machines on this ship. You are as bad as an Hahea (Landowners, upper class Aslan).

You will wait till I inspected the ship, then you can fly it.
