Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
Unfortunately, as the detective in charge. O'Malley couldn't slip out quite as easily as she might have liked. From the gates, she could hear trouble. The uniformed officers called her phone to tell her they needed her.

By the time, she got to the gate. She could see and hear that the animals were out and hadn't come alone. News vans were setting up across the street; the vultures had arrived in force. The mob was braying and pressing against the police line.

(OOC: Sorry for shoving you about a bit Ali.)

There were plenty of places for Jane to change back to herself on her way home, where she wouldn't be noticed. Her bike was much easier to ride, when she was herself. As she rode home, she could see people heading toward the cemetery. The news had traveled fast in the Harrows and people were scared.

"Sorry, looks like we'll have to chat later." Ali heads toward the highest-ranking uniformed officer she sees to figure out what she can about the current situation (forensics in the van, taking the man into custody, etc.).

Seeing the people heading toward the cemetery, Jane slowed down her bike and asked what was going on to see if she could find out what people were all agitated about.

James looked to Kat as Alannah ran off to take statements saying, "Well, I guess it's jes you and me, Kat. Just noticed that, gotta appreciate the irony."

"Thinking our snack and talk might have ta wait. Though I guess she can hear us."

"I ain't got no credentials, pretty sure the popo ain't gonna want me hangin' around gettin' in the way. Not sure how much place there is for a cadet neither. So what you doin'? Gonna go give the detective a hand?"

She looks at Ali as she leaves, wishing they could all grab a bite.

She looks at James "Well, lets go get something. I don't want a lot of the other police ID'ing me here.  Its not like I had any plans. My friends have probably disappeared. So you like Chinese?"

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
The Harrows -- At the cemetery gates

Unfortunately, she was the ranking officer at the cemetery. The second highest ranking officer was the sergeant that had the prisoner in the back of the prowl car by the gate. Another couple of prowl cars had arrived and they had a loose cordoned area to keep the press and the public back.

The plan at the moment was to get the prisoner out of there and question him at the station. The zombies were going to be be brought under guard to the closest crematorium, where they'd be photographed, their effects removed and they'd be cremated post-haste. (After Thanatos, they didn't screw with zombies -- the protocols do deal with them were well documented and clear.)

As they started to move through the gate, questions and accusations rose in a meaningless howl. Past them, she saw O'Leary. He was up on the hill across the street with a couple of his men. He was younger than she'd expected. She had heard so much about him from her father and the rest of the old guard in the department, she had expected someone much older -- her father's age at least. But he looked to be in his thirties. Just another ginger mick in a windbreaker on a damp night. She wouldn't have given him another look if it hadn't been for the way his men jumped, when O'Leary leaned in to say something. One of his men pulled out his phone and the other moved into the crowd.

O'Leary let himself show a small grin, just enough to flash some tooth and spine. And then he was gone, as the crowd roared forward and crashed against the police line, baying for the prisoner's blood. Reporters with blinding cameras and stabbing at them with mikes trying to rend a newsbyte out of them.

The Harrows -- Riding Back

Jane was able to find that people heard that there were zombies at the cemetery. Some wanted to be sure they were safe. Some wanted to see for themselves. Most wanted to get answers.

The Harrows -- Chinese

Once they climbed the ladders over the wall, they were able to get out of the cemetery and not be noticed by the press and the mob. The forensics people were working on the van. But their attention was on the van and the inside of it. Their attention wasn't on the ladder. Kat's ability to be stealthy and James' ability to not be seen, ensured they were able to slip by without much trouble.

Within a half mile, they were past the largely vacant warehouses and to a part of the Harrows where more people lived. They were able to find the Chow House, a middling Chinese restaurant whose main claims to fame were that you could get after hour beer by ordering the cold tea and that they stayed open until 3 in the morning. They were a popular stop for drunken revelers and night shift workers.

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
Kat walks in and gets a booth in the back where she can see the door. "Well, I guess we are both the sneaky types. So, where do you live?"

When a waitress walks over, she orders some hot tea and looks at James "So, what do you want?"

John couldn't help himself.  He was young when it happened last time, but not that young.  He blended into the crowd, careful to keep his wits about him.  They all seemed to be screaming and he wondered if it was going to roll into a riot.    He made his way through towards the police line, just to get a look.

His eyes flit from car to cop to car to cop, and he felt the crowd pressing in behind him.

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
James followed Kat to her booth. "Yeah, I sneak aight, but it ain't really my thing, you know? I ain't the cat lady, after all, I make noise, even if I am invisible, and shit apparently I smell too! You can smell me, and the detective can hear me. Shit she can probably hear what we saying right now! Can you hear us Detective O'Malley?" he smiled making it clear he was joking.

"So you got the cat claws, the cat muscles, remind me not ta piss you off. Maybe you stronger than you look, but me, I'm weaker than I look! Years of hard livin', darlin', don't ya know it. Les jus say I ain't gonna be challengin' you to arm rassle no time soon, that's for sure, no matter how much I might want to hold hands."

He looked a little embarrassed when she asked where he lived, and it took a little of the easy, flirtatious banter out of him.

"I got a room inna basement over in a low rise in Chester Hill." The bad part of Chester Hill, he didn't add. "It does me aight, I don't need much."

When the waitress came he looked self-conscious again, saying "Yeah tea sounds nice, I ain't really hungry."

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear

As she rejoins the police Ali tries to take some control where it is needed. Where things are working, she tries to leave things going as they were. Mostly she wants to keep the spectators out of the crime scene and prevent a riot.

The Harrows -- Riding Back

The people that Jane had talked to hurried past her to the cemetery to find out what's going on. She watched one of the local news vans shoot by.

The Harrows -- At the cemetery gates

John was crushed by the crowd pressing against the police line. The uniformed police officer in front of him looked really nervous. And the mood of the crowd was starting to get ugly. John could feel the hairs start to go up on the back of his neck.

The sergeant turned to Ali. "Someone's going to have to talk to the press and calm them down before this blows up. You're the ranking officer, ma'am."

The Harrows -- Chinese

Settled in their booth. The hot tea and complementary crisps were brought for them. The waiter lingered for them to order or send him away.

Jane texted her sister and her friend to let them know she was okay and then rode her bike home. She was out after curfew and her parents would kill her, if she didn't get home and soon.

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
"Ya, I guess that's true but in area's with a lot of noise, it will work well and not many can smell like me.  You need a way to make a distraction. And as far as pissing me off, it takes a lot unless you hurt me, then I get nasty" she says with a grin, not letting him know if she is joking or not.

She smiles sadly "I got a house to myself. My dad was killed a few months ago and my mom had a nervous breakdown and is in the hospital. So I am by my self. A friend handles the house right now, I guess I am lucky I am 18."

She looks at the waitress "I will have some tuna sushi, 2 orders please" and she looks at James "What do you want, I got it, don't worry" she figured he might be hungry.

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
John knows things are going south.  He is not sure how he knows things, but sometimes he just knows.    He looked at the officer in front of him, seeing what was behind his eyes.  He had been in the cops shoe's, whether at a concert, or the hot new nightspot, a crowd can get ugly if it doesn't get what it wants.

John looks at the officer, and smiles as reassuring as he can.  He points at the man, then starts clapping.  In a crowd this close to the flashpoint, even a stubbed toe could send it over the brink.  He continues his applause, and raises his voice.  "Hurray for the ECPD!"  He turns the guy next to him  "They are doing great!  He turns to the other side, "They stopped the bastard!"  He gave a fist pump.  He didn't know if a single voice could stay the mob, if he could get one other, then two, then four, it might stall the momentum.

Re: Chapter Two: Chaos and Fear
James' eyes went soft and showed true compassion as he said, "I'm sorry for your loss. Hard one to get over, I know. Never really knew my dad, and my Momma wasn't ... well let's jus say she had her own issues. I was mosly raised by my Gram. She passed when I wasn't much younger than you are. Hah, I remember eighteen. Actually that's a lie, I don't remember shit about eighteen, or nineteen, or right through to jes a coupla years ago. I made me some bad choices too, still paying for some of them.  Spose you could say I'm trying to set the balance to right now."

"I ain't really hungry, jes the tea be fine. Long as you don' mind me watchin' you eat." He was clearly nervous about something whenever they mentioned ordering food.

She smiles "I don't mind if you don't mind me eating raw fish. Its funny, before my change I would not touch raw anything. Now I love raw fish. Some rice is fine too. " she leans back "So, I guess you on the street, at least you have a better idea about it then me. My father kept a close eye on me"

Ali checks to find if any of the cops has a loudspeaker she can use. While they're (hopefully) grabbing it, she looks for a place she can stand to be a little more visible to the crowd while still a little behind the police line.

The Harrows -- Riding Back

Her sister called back. "Mom's freaking out," she whispered into the phone. "Dad had to go back to work. He looked scared and I heard him tell Mom that it was something at the cemetery. People are going nuts. The guys on TV are saying it might be Thanatos back."

Jane continued to ride her bike home. She saw at least one prowl car coming in her direction with the sirens and flashing lights.

The Harrows -- At the cemetery gates

Ali can get a loudspeaker and she can get a spot on top of a car, where she can be seen and heard.

John's voice was largely drowned out by the crowd, but a few people near him were trying to figure out how John saw that someone was captured and what was going on. He was jostled as people move in and around him. The closest officer seemed to hear John and still looked nervous, but maybe a little less at the moment.

The Harrows -- Pan-Asian Fusion

The waitress nodded and scampered off to get their order together, leaving them to talk.

Jane continued to ride her bike, she moved to the side to make sure that police could get by safely.  She talked on the phone with her sister. "It's fine. There weren't that many zombies. We took care of them. The police have them now."

"What?!" her sister said.

"Shhhh! Mom'll hear you. I'll be home soon."

Laurie offers some vulgar comments that would have gotten her even more in trouble, if her mother had overheard her. She rang off.

Five police cars scream past and Jane could hear one of the cars behind her slowing down and pulling to the side of the road. Almost immediately, her phone rang. It was her father's cell number.

In reply to Katherine O'Connor (msg # 16):

He shrugged at the mention of raw fish, ain't my thing, but you go for it. Not sure," he looked around their surroundings with a slow turn of his head, "might try to pass catfish as tuna at a joint like this, but guessing you're nose is gonna know."

"I spent some time on the street, got a place outta the rain now. Believe me that's better. But yeah, I still know folks. That's what brought me out tonight, folks goin missing. The kind of people ain't nobody gonna miss. After what I saw tonight I'm thinking they gettin zombified. shit, that's nasty. I was lyin back art the cemetery, that leader didn't say he was scared of his boss, I got that when he just thought about it. I didn't wanna explain how I knew at the time, but yeah, he's a flunky, workin for someone else. Couldn't find out who, though. Any thoughts on how we might find out?"

Jane could hear the anger coming off her father in waves over the phone. "What are you doing out after curfew? Do you know what's going on tonight?" She could hear his partner trying to get a word in as  her father read her the riot act.

Katy thinks as she sips some tea "Well, I don't know. The little bit of hero stuff I have done is walking the streets and trying to take out muggers. But even if they are homeless, that doesn't mean they deserve to be zombied. Now as far as finding out who is the real boss, I would say we need to talk to the guy from the cemetery but the police will do that. So unless you want to check out the places the people disappeared from, I am not sure what to do next." she says in a soft low voice.

"Indeed."he replied to her comments about the homeless with a smile and sip of his own tea.

"I can get a lot more out of the dude from the cemetery than the po-lice can," he said, pointing at his head. "Problem is how do I get into the room when they're interrogating him? Invisibility only gets you so far. Maybe the good detective can get me in? But she's kind of busy right now."

"I talked with some of the people on the street, didn't get much. They scared, I don't blame 'em.
