John puts his earpiece back in, but doesn't turn it on yet.  "So do we go see that Filth character, or check out Delilah's? he asks.

Re: Chapter 9B: Ali and John
Ali replies to John without having put in her earpiece, "My plan is to see what I can get from Filth. I suspect if I walk in with my badge and ask to speak to him to ask questions about his rival gang, he may well want the police to put pressure on them and give me what answers he can. But it would be good to have backup nearby just in case. I figure the best time is for me to go after work tomorrow as it's getting pretty late tonight."

"Official police business, does that mean I get a deputies badge?" John smiles, a goofy grin showing it was a jest.  "You know how to get me," he says. "I'll be there."  He turns back to the table.  "If you're going, I'm having another beer."

Re: Chapter 9B: Ali and John

The bar was starting to fill up with regulars. A sports game was on the TV and a couple of the guys were talking about the lottery numbers from earlier tonight. The bartender nodded toward John.

After Ali leaves, John walks to the bar, and takes a stool.  "How's it been?" he asks casually.  "Beer...  No better make it a coffee." he says, looking up at the game on the TV.  "I missed the drawing, did somebody win?"

Re: Chapter 9B: Ali and John
Ali's cat, Finegan for some reason had taken upon itself to kill one of her down pillows. There were feathers everywhere in the bedroom. After cleaning up and winding down. She was asleep in minutes.

The guys at the bar shrugged when asked about the lottery. "No idea yet. We'll hear in the morning whether anyone won." The bartender rolled his eyes. "If anyone won, it's never anyone in the Harrows." He rattled off the numbers from a piece of paper, he kept by the register, because John wasn't the first to ask about the lottery numbers.

"Yeah, its always some other lucky basterd." He sits for a few minutes, before plunking some cash down for the coffee.  "I'll see ya later."  he says, checking his watch.

He walks back to his truck, and drives towards Delilah's finding a safe, out of the way place to park a few blocks away.

I figure I can tip my hand a little bit so he knows I'm a little more in the loop. But I don't want to give away too much. I also want to be clear I'm looking into the Crips and not the Demons. Maybe he even knows where D is hiding. Really, anything he might tip me off to could be useful."

So it's probably best for you to be on the roof or somewhere else that works similarly. I'll wear my earpiece in just in case, but I'm not taking my gun. They got to a grungy hole in the wall bar. Much like the crips, the street was largely empty and there seemed to be a lot of attention paid to strangers on the street. They saw the Demons colors (Black) in the area.

"No, I don't, unfortunately."

Later...

Ali is dressed in her business/detective attire. Though she doesn't have her gun, she does have her badge. She walks down the street with a swagger that indicates she's used to such places.  She makes no effort to conceal herself nor where she is headed, so they see her coming for a while.

"Hi, there, fellas. Could you tell Filth that Detective O'Malley would like to talk to him about the Crips and the mercenaries working with them if he can spare the time?"

Ali walks over to the bartender and sits at the bar, relaxed. "Filth? Nice to meet you. I'm Detective O'Malley. I'm investigating a murder and some related crimes that have had me looking at the Crips. In the process I've found they're working with a group of mercenaries and maybe some other independents as well. I'm sure you have no love for the Crips and are keeping tabs on them, so I thought maybe you might point me somewhere. I also thought I should come straight to you since it seems the Crips have some undue pull with the police, redirecting trouble your way. Give you a chance to help level the playing field."

Ali doesn't chug the beer, but she drinks it relatively quickly. She doesn't put it down on the coaster. She leaves a little cash, enough for the beer an an appropriate tip. While removing her hand from the cash she slides the coaster from the bar and into a pocket. "Well, it was worth a try. See ya." Ali casually walks out of the bar and down the street the direction she came from.

The surly guys in the bar watched Ali leave. Once she was out of the bar, one of the bar flies said, "You told her."

The bartender shook his head. "Shut up, jackass. And drink your god damn beer."

Another of them said, "If she really had info... Filth ain't gonna be happy."

The bartender flipped him the bird and pulled out his phone to check his texts.

Conversation went on to sports, sex, etc...

While walking but not near anyone she says quietly into the mike, "Knuckles, I got a number. Let's meet up where we split."

He rattled off a couple of addresses that are supposed to be Crips' important addresses. "Moving away from their bars has thrown things up in the air. Rumors are they're doing something big. If I knew the mercenaries, I'd be making them an offer. I'm trying to talk with the necromancer to get what I need to protect my men. K or Killer is all I have for him. And I have a pay as you go phone that he sometimes picks up, but nothing more than that." He gave her the number.

"My people are moving around and trying not to make an easy target for D."

The addresses he gave were: the sub shop that Jane and Kat got and another was a warehouse in Chester Hill's warehouse district.

"Thanks. Hopefully things get better for both of us now." If he has any pleasantries as they end their conversation, she'll play along, but basically the call is ending.

"John, I've got two locations and some really vague information on the necromancer. Apparently he's known as "K" or "Killer," but even knowing he's a he is more than we had. I don't know if we'll be able to do anything with a phone number, but I can try. Calls have to get routed somehow, so there is a slim chance it could lead somewhere. In the meantime, we'll want to investigate the Crips' sub shop and warehouse. I'll text the other two and let them know what's up."

John nods back to the detective.  "That's probably wise.  Though, I'm getting better, no one will see me if I don't want them to.  I was at your shoulder most of the time in the bar." He offers as way of example.  "Except when I was checking out their stash behind the bar.  You probably noticed the bare spot behind the bar.  They had a basement entrance, with some bug out stuff in it."

"Why don't you put the operator onto the phone number, seems like something they could handle?  Then we could check the warehouse, now?"  He asks.

Re: Chapter 9B: Ali and John
The operator said that he'll try to get that, now that he's got the number, he can try that. The historical data isn't easily available. He'll see what he can get you in the next few hours/morning.

Ali's evening is phenomenal. She crushed at the poker game. She'd heard of the luck of the Irish, but nothing like that night. If she hadn't been watching closely, she would have thought that the dealers were stacking the cards. Hand after hand were winners. She actually had to dump hands a few times, when the pot wasn't large enough, when the other players were starting to grumble. But she played smart and cleaned up.

During the course of the game, the guys talked about work. One of the guys that at the game was slightly higher up on the food chain and after he was a bit in his cups was complaining about some of the community oversight boards that were pushing for some investigations into some of the police brutality issues in Chester Hill. He waved his drink around, talking about how they'd gotten gang  crime down in Chester Hill and now the community idiot board was trying to stick their nose in. How the hell could they continue to do that with their hands tied. That started some complaints about community oversight.
