Ghost in the Machine - Exploring O'Sidata

You say your goodbyes and set the time schedule. You wonder for a second if the goodbyes are going to be final as the image of Khazim, unconscious, drifts to the front of your thoughts. You leave the two behind to mess with the one item that could be your salvation, or demise if you are unable to get it aboard the Mistress. Calmly walking down the smooth passageway you head for the bridge. As you approach the access door, it slides open with hardly a whisper. Once again on the bridge you can see that most of the crew members are resting in the couches on the main floor. One, the one with the yellow stripe, is just getting up from one of the couches. "I see you have found your lost crewmate. I trust that she did not succumb to the madness. Else I fear that you would be dead yourselves. Your quick return would not indicate you have taken care of the mad ones." For the first time you see something akin to emotion from these humanoids as it tilts it's head. The act reminds you of so many animals looking at an item quizzically.

messing with his crossbow a little and getting a feel for it...and then walks over to the muppet with the stripe..Sorry my friend we have not taken care of the mad ones yet, would you like to come with us and make sure they are dealt with?  So my friend tell me, are you alive or part of the ship?

Angrboda nearly slaps her forehead in frustration, "What kind of strange question is that for our hosts Viktor." she says grasping his elbow and attempting to push him toward the door, "Surely they have been through enough for now.  Don't you worry little furry things we will take care of the crazy ones for you." she says smiling broadly.

The humanoid with the yellow stripe's head remains at the of kilter angle as it stares into Viktors soul with the large, nearly pupiless eyes. "Of course we are part of the ship." It's head returns to the normal upright position as it continues it's mind-talk. "We are not fighters. We do not know how to fight. You are to finish the mad ones." The humanoid stands just on the other side of the couch as Angrboda attempts to escort Viktor, like a child, towards the opposite door.

I thought it was a good question..don't worry we will take care of the mad ones...gets his crossbow ready with the dipped bolt locked into place...checks his other weapons and waits for Angrboda to lead the way...

Rael walks after the pair lost in thoughts, he did not thought the grumpkings to be dead not in the dead sense of the word... perhaps they were never born but created but regardless they were linked to the ship.

"Can you make the doors open for us?" he asked the lead grumpking "It would make our task much easier if we would not need to break open each door."

Angrboda continues to smile, that wonderful Melinbonean smile, as she escorts Viktor towards the door to the main deck. Seeing that the group is angling towards the main deck, the humanoid with the yellow stripe motions with his hand towards the door. "You are able to leave this room at any time. I will make it so you can enter in again after you leave. The mad ones have cut access so that only they can hunt. We are at their whims. The other doors are beyond our ability."

You exit the bridge and on to the main deck. A few seconds later the smaller frame of the yellow striped humanoid steps into view of the portal. "This door will be able to be opened from the outside. You are free to enter as you need."

[Private to Angrboda: Emerging on to the deck you see a second longboat on the water in the direction of the Mistress. If it is a longboat, it should be to the wrecked vessel in about 10-15 minuets.]

"Oh for the love of Balo's games, who the hell are they?" Angrboda says perplexedly as she stares at the new boat coming toward the ship, "Quickly let's hide and set up an ambush in case they are not our friends."

Yes I see it too, there is a long boat on its way to us...hopefully it is some of the Mistresses crew, but we may have a fight on our hands otherwise....are you ready to slay some stuff mighty Rael?pats Rael on the shoulder and keeps his crossbow in hand for the moment...ready to grab his axe if it is needed...

Several minuets pass before the longboat makes the same ladder you yourselves used. This has given you enough time to position a few of the boxes and other debris in a makeshift blind. Human voices drift up from over the gunwale as you can here at least three different people. From your hiding spot you can see outlandishly dressed humans of all kinds get on the deck and pull scimitars. After a few moments you hear the pirates yell an all clear to those below. You would still unsure of the origin of the pirates if it were not for the fourth "person" to mount the deck. The mechanic from the Rogue Mistress known as Mikkl huffs a large pack over the side and on the deck.

Mikkl takes a all to familiar metalic box out of the pack and begins to wave it around. You see him point towards the front of the ship, and then once towards the back spires. Nodding to the pirates, Mikkl motions to the pirates to head towards the back spires.

Viktors voice booms across the still air as he steps out from hiding. The pirates tense into a fighting stance as Mikkl draws his own broadsword. "Great Tesla's ghost, Your alive!" Mikkl lowers the broadsword. At the recognition in Mikkl's voice ther other pirates lower their scimitars, but do not seem to loose the fighting tension. "We were set upon by some apparitions that came from this direction. The mistress lost several crew, it seems that only certain kinds of blades can harm them. We were able to drive them off and they retreated back in this direction. We feared that you had fallen to these same specters. It only seemed prudent to send a second team to try and retrieve the piece." Putting his sword away, he takes a second look at the small metallic box in his hand. "You've already located the device. Then by all means, lets get going. I want off this first layer of hell as soon as possible."

Rael nods from behind Viktor "We found some crew members I guess... wierd fellows, in exchange for the device we agreed to capture their crew members who turned insane from the long stay here." he elbows Viktor speaking softly "Perhaps it would be a good idea to run by Mikki your hospitality offer to the muppets."

Angrboda perks up a bit, perhaps there are a lot of humans that aren't bad people, "I don't suppose you can tell us exactly what swords worked on these creatures?" she asks, "and Viktor, I believe the muppets you are talking about are the actual ones we are supposed to save."

"I have not been able to determine what is the key factor in which weapons work. Kathrak's weapon winged one bad." He curls his hand into a partial fist with his pointer finger and thumb extended. Pointing his finger forward, he then crooks it upwards into the air. "These three here had weapons that were marginally effective. It does not seem to be linked to a blessing or a binding. Perhaps it is linked to those who wield them. We did not have time to test. It was more prudent to simply get the device and get out as fast as possible." Mikkl begins to approach the group with an obvious intent to head into the spire at the rear of the ship.

"Muppets? I've never heard of that nation. Little to wonder as there are so many in the multiverse. Do you still have access to where we need to go?"

We think the Captain would like to meet some of the muppets on the ship..I think your men should get them back to the Mistress immediately...We will help you with access but we need help capturing the rest of the crew to bring back to our lovely Captainnudges Rael back...

"No, Viktor, you think that they should be brought back to the ship.  I Believe they are somehow possessed or raised by the spirits AND that it would be a very bad idea to take them aboard the ship." Angrboda says exasperated that no one is listening to her, "But do as you like, I have other things to do right now." She says and turns her back on the group, heading to the north.

Rael rolls his eyes as the two seem to dismiss the whole group of pirate and trudge on, glancing at Mikki he adds "They are over there, the doors are locked, we left a trail of open doors for you to follow... there are still hostiles on this ship so keep an eye."

Waving a quick goodbye he runs after the sorceress and warrior.

Mikkl and his fellow pirate are left a bit flatfooted as they are merely pointed the direction and dismissed. As both sides trudge off in their respective direction a low wail drifts from the front of the vessel. Mikkl's group disappears into the only visible door at the base of the spires. After several minuets your own group makes it to the large area in the middle of the deck.

[Private to Angrboda: The lettering you see framing out the area basically states: "Caution" and "Keep clear" ]

Angrboda notes the signs on the deck, "These signs indicate to be cautious in this area." she tells the other two as she searches for any mechanism to open the large doors.  "To answer your question Viktor, I believe that the muppets we have encountered thus far are already dead.  Possessed some how by the spirits that attacked the ship.  Since we have been informed that there is another group I am guessing that they are the true survivors of the crash.  If we are to rescue anyone it would probably be them." she explains.

"How much of what you are saying is fact and how much just guess works?" Rael asks as he catch up with Angrboda and Viktor "cause I see a whole mess of a situation I want no part in. So I suggest, we keep our ears and weapons ready. If these mad ones are willing to talk we will talk but if they are frothing from the mouth... never mind the fact they do not possess a mouth, lets stick with the original plan of subduing them." he grins "Hey once Viktor have them cowed and in chain you can ask them whatever you want and worse case we would apologies."

We will see if they attack first and if they do, then we will knock them all out...one way or another...perhaps they are still sane and need help or perhaps they are evil alien mutant muppets from hell....guess we will find out...gets his crossbow ready and his knife positioned on his chest..just in case...

Angrboda sighs, "The facts?  The facts are that this ship was attacked by some sort of spirit and that they killed at least most of the muppets, as Viktor calls them.  This caused the ship to crash on this plane.  I assume that if there are original crew members left that the spirits would want to get rid of them in order to collaborate their story better.  The biggest fact however is that I am not willing to bring any of these creatures onto the Mistress with us because I certainly do not want to deal with creatures that we have no certain way of killing, in the middle of planar travel.  If we find more of these creatures and they are inclined to discuss with us what happened then perhaps I might change my mind."

"What do you mean no way to kill, seem pretty straightforward to me. Nothing you say imply the bridge muppets are the undead spirit control ones. Maybe the one they call the mad ones are the one possessed? that sounds just as reasonable especially considering that the mad one appear to be more proactive for violence or at least the bridge muppets are reluctant to engage the mad ones."

He sighs "as for bringing the muppets aboard it is neither Viktor nor yours call but the Mistress captain whom appear to be very capable woman whom know her job, so let her make this call."

You move about the deck scanning for anything. In difference to other such vessels that you are used to, there no derricks, cranes, or webbing of any kind. The "rib" bones that arch up from the side of the ship would make any kind of such physical means of moving cargo almost impossible. Likewise you see you handles, hatches, or consoles similar to those found in the bridge area. Snooping through the wreckage you notice that none of the boxes have standard webbing around them either.

Now that you can see closer to the front you can tell that the massive skull blends straight into the deck near the front. You can see no obvious doors or passages there. The entire time on deck the periodic mournful wail drifts from the front of the ship. The closer to the skull you get the more it penetrates right to your nerves. At this distance it is easy to ignore, though somewhat annoying.

[Private to Angrboda: Given your prior experience with this ship it is entirely plausible that the "muppets" can activate things with their mind. You do not know the distance of their thought communication either. You saw several stations on the bridge and with no obvious controls on the deck it is possible that the controls could be on the bridge, or even in another room similar to he "computer room".]

"Balo's Balls!" Angrboda curses, "Will you just be patient, I am trying to find my way there." she says to the skull as she passes near it, patting it softly.  "There must be a way down somewhere, maybe on the bridge." she says, obviously irritated, as she begins walking back toward the bridge door.

Rael give Angrboda a measured look and make sure to keep his distance "Wait... the doors had a weird mechanism... perhaps here it is the same. Look around for anything that looks like the eye thing of the doors." he instruct as he does the same. He also spend some time to find some rags to put in his hear before the annoying noise would drive him insane as the others.

Frustrated at the rather spartan nature of the vessel Angrboda stalks back towards the main spire and bridge. The wailing continues to echo over the dead sea as you march away from the skull and bow of the ship. Rael looks about the area with little luck, this is just to different of a ship than you are all used to.

Angrboda makes it to the bridge and marches straight through the door that opens at her approach. Inside the Bridge, the castaways are all getting out of the couches and beginning to once again become mobile. "You once again return, is there something wrong?" the voice echos in your head.

Angrboda, nervous because she does not know if her magic can hurt the spirits she believes are here, shakes her head, "Nope, just need to access the hold." she says moving quickly to the doors around for a sign that tells her where to go.

Rael shakes his head "I am not sure what she is looking for, I think this ship or this plane is getting to her more strongly than it is affecting us." he sighs and slaps his hands on his thighs... "We need to follow her... before she will do something stupid and we need to be there to help her... come, we must make haste."

and without any further comment he start to walk at a brisk pace following Angrboda.

Getting frustrated by all the running around, lack of clear signs, the constant wailing, and now you are beginning to feel a slight "core" fatigue. The gloom of the place is starting to take it's toll. No one thing is really pricking you, it is the lack of everything. No sounds from the waves, wind, birds, crickets... anything! The only reasons you know you are not in a dream is that constant, grating, wailing of the ship. Luckily as soon as you walk into the bridge all of that abates. It is as if the simple acknowledgement of movement and sound helps the overall dead feeling of the place.

Angrboda is moving about the bridge inspecting each of the doorways. Standing, still huddled in a tiny group by the consoles and couches, are the castaways. They look at the commotion with an air of disinterest. Though it could be the fact that like the world around you, the too show lack of any kind of emotion or empathy, merely observing as if they are recording your every action.

[Private to Angrboda: There are only three doors labeled. The center door is labeled Computer room. The door directly to the "West" is labeled Medical. The door to the "East" is labeled Communication. The two "wing" doors are not labeled though you know that both Cirok and Berta are down the corridor to the "east". ]

Angrboda sighs in frustration at her lack of knowledge of ships of the mulitverse, it had never occurred to her that might be a topic of usefulness in her travels, she stands for a second looking at the doorways and decides to head back to the computer room to see if she can get the spirit of the ship to help her with her goals.

Figures it is about time for a drink...takes his winesack out and takes a few swigs of it...lets out a rude loud belch and starts laughing hysterically...puts the winesack away looks for a place to sit and wait for Angrboda to do what she is trying to do...

Rael motions towards the eastern door, they very door that contained the Navigational device and dark hallway. In the background the castaway crew watches with continued unnerving disinterest as their heads swivel to track your movements. Rael, for a change, leads the way forward into the dark hallway. The door slides open at your approach and leads you straight into...
