Basement is basically done, at least this stage. Christmas and New Year is over. Work sucks, but hey that is nothing new. I'm fully back and should resume the more normal every 3 day or so posting.

Unsure, I've attempted contacting them with no luck so far.

Viktor would be heartbroken without Angrboda...hope she is doing well.

Well it seems as if I get to face a dilemma. I was hoping that Angrboda was simply temporary gone. Not sure what has happened as no responses from any of my attempts have been answered.


On Tuesday it will be 3 weeks not logged in. Due to me being a nice GM I can simply have her wander off, to possibly show up later.
To be true to the story/Elric I "have" to kill her, we just have not had enough deaths in this chapter.

I would like input from all of you as the outcome DOES effect what happens later. I've done both in the game some have been killed off, some have simply been left behind.

That brings us to the second point. With the players permission I have been posting for Khazim due to RL issues. That player has not logged in for some time either.

Player attrition happens. However loosing 2 is hard. I know we have not had combat for some time as this section has been concentrating on the sleuthing and info gathering.

I would like to hear your opinions on this, as well as, any opinion on opening recruitment if that is your wish. The loss of Khazim is the loss of the groups best tracker. Loss of Angrboda is the loss of most of your arcane knowledge.

Such a bummer with Angrboda. Hope all is well with her. Maybe have her wander off for a week or so. Then decide her fate. Not sure about Khazim, depends if you want to keep playing him. Otherwise a chaos wave could transform him into a giant crab person. It has been too long since the axe has been swung.

Ouch.  If this were a TV show, Angrboda's the one that you'd assume the writers wouldn't kill off till the final reel.  As they say, only the good die young, the bad prefer it that way ...

Given the player's contributions to date, I'm with Viktor - don't write her off yet, we'll just have to sacrifice to all the Higher Lords and hope that whatever ails/plagues the player resolves itself sooner rather than later.

Magic we'd be struggling without, loss of tracking we can probably or hopefully cope with (everybody start making Tracking checks immediately to get those skills up !  I follow Viktor around the yard ... aha !  There were horses here ...)

Perhaps a chaos wave and fight that gets rid of Khazim (sorry Khazim) and puts our favourite Melnibonean into a coma ??

Well, hopefully the player is okay.   That's the important thing.

As for the character, I too vote not to kill her.

She's had a long run here, and put a lot of work into the character.  It's still possible the player may return, so I would not jump the gun on it, personally.

This said, there could be an apparent death, if you want to shake the group up a bit.    Rael could grieve and feel guilty, Esyld might compose a dirge, and Viktor could mourn and go on a binge(um, another binge) etc.

If it must eventually come to it, a sorcerer will be the easiest of roles for you to replace.   Ever a popular choice.   Just please, don't add some egotistical idiot, who doesn't know the author's books, and has advantages over the rest of us mere mortals..  (though, actually, that would be sort of Moorcockian in itself ;)

Reading through what I have planned there are a few ways I can do it. That being said Ive got a fairly cheesy way to have Angrboda leave at this point. Khazim will take a bit more finesse.

I too hope the player is ok. I know I was almost down for the count thanks to my flood. Even to this day I'm experiencing issues with electronics that were near the damage. I lost my router 4 days ago for unexplained reasons, The best way to describe it was that the Wifi radio was slowly dying. It stopped being able to reliably hold more than 2-3 connections over the span of 2 days.
Luckily I used to build/repair computers on the side and had an untouched router from a networking job that a customer backed out of.

Rael hasn't posted in a little while either?  I hope Rael and Angrboda find their way back to the group.

My laptop I keep having to reboot the network adapter every second time I turn it on ... though it is about 8½ years old and still running OK otherwise.  The router would be MUCH more annoying !  But at least you know what you're doing with PCs and bits ... I'm inordinately proud of myself that I managed to do a case change a while back and that's pretty much just unplugging everything inside and plugging it back in again and crossing your fingers ! <grins>

Per cast list, Rael was on two days ago - assume he's just struggling to find time to post (and hoping it's nothing more serious) ... so looks like it's up to Esyld to do all the talking.

Can assume Berta's watered all the horses and they're hitched up again so either Viktor or herself can head inside, just to give the character someone to bounce looks, comments etc off ???  :>

First things first, Rael Gol LIVES!!!!!, like Frankenstein of old.

Second I'm going insane. I told you about my router. What I did not go into was that the next day my dvd player dies, the day after that the tv it was hooked to dies. Two days later my game controller to play fallout 4 dies, I steal my wife's. The next day it dies. Now a few days later my car gasps it's last breath just after dropping my son of at daycare. At least it died in my driveway.

On top of that I find out, just after my car died, I'm no longer administration department manager.
These last two weeks are just testing my grasp on sanity. We now return to our regularly scheduled insanity. -- end rant

We are at a point where I could ad a new character somewhat "easy". I had already made points about Angrboda and Khazim. Khazim is as good as gone as well. I'm using the "guarding the door" routine so that I can let you all have your fun. (not saying anything about the bomb in the tower, it is only 2 stories, but the only decent sized window is over the cliff, some 50+ feet down to the surf)

Hey guys, I am so sorry I have been missing for so long.  I have been fighting a massive bout of depression recently.  I have been unemployed for 3 years, my ex is rufusing to let my see my daughter, and (more recently) my dog died.  I am going to try to get back into the swing of things but just getting out of bed has been difficult for me lately.

Sorry to hear about real life getting you down. Glad to hear you are doing ok.  Hit Viktor, it will make you feel better.

Greece - been there a couple of times and really enjoyed ourselves ... but not recently, so don't know what effect the economic troubles will have had.  We get lost in the Plaka every time, but that's half the fun and at least there's enough places to eat that you don't starve while finding your way out.  Probably a good time of year, before the peak tourist season starts - should be less crowded and not as hot.  Spent most time in Athens on our visits, though did do a cruise around the islands twenty years ago, and a coach tour that looped up to Meteora ten years ago ... but never spent as much time there as you will be - I'm jealous !  :>

Me too!     Greece is on my list of 'Must See Some Day' locales.    I'm sure that will be an awesome trip --  so much wonderful history, mythology, and culture.

Thank you. To be honest I've been mostly asleep these last few posts. I've been shifted to more 3am truck shifts in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 3 years. I'm typically the closer for my store and I'm used to falling asleep at like 11pm.

I could have sworn that you guys had more ranged in the group. Then again the group has changed drastically, for example Viktor is the closest thing you have to a marine and even then his swim is not all that great. Not that I'm going to make you all swim or anything...

Yes they are about the size of a medium dog or chimpanzee. Reading back I've never even remotely indicated their size other than Khazim using a spear to fight them.

So I went back to the first time the group had a good look,  when one dropped on Viktor's  back

ahh, I was sure they were swarm like of nano sized spiders... Rael would have totally freaked if they are the size of a medium dog. :)

The original picture that I found had it about 3/4 as tall as a "Standard" human

Do these weapons have such precise aim?    My impression was they shoot a "gob" of fire, that sort of bursts on impact.    Is it safe to use when we are so near the target?

I'm using these in the sense of a "bolt of fire/Plasma"

I'm basing the operation on my fuzzy recollection of when Hawkmoon assaulted Gran Bretan. They talked about things getting hit being splashed with "molten fire"

Either
1. When hitting the ramparts is so hot it slagged the stone and caused molten rock
2. It is a "beam" of energy that splashes


According to my old Hawkmoon book: Flame-lances are thermal weapons that shoot a beam of hot red light that splashes around the target’s body, often setting them alight....

When a flame-lance attack hits, it splashes and strikes much of the victim’s body. Roll on the Flame-Lance location table, then apply the main burn damage listed before the slash to the main burn location and the damage listed after the slash to the adjacent areas.

Yes I'm giving away some of the secrets of the weapons you are using, but in essence, it is not a "glob" per se. It does however always have a splash effect.


In close proximity, say not exactly Hand to Hand, I'd say you could be precise - They do make "pistol" versions according to the book. Since Khazim is using a Boar spear I would say that is outside of range, though the spear my not be all that well after the fight.

Since I'm grey, just don't fumble,   mwahahaha

I know like it sounds like a broken record, but, life had been difficult over the last few weeks. Currently I'm at work, I can not guarantee I'll be able to do anything when (It feels more like if at this point) I get home but I'm sure going to try.

Best example I can give is today. I'm supposed to be off, yet due to the brilliance and foresight of where I work, out of 8 managers 2 have been approved for vacations (for the whole week) One position has yet to be filled, and the Store manager is off all week as well.

That leaves 4 of us. Of those 4 only 2 know how to work the cash office and the "off day worker" to our normal cash office worker is sick in the hospital (not sure why there is no backups.

I'm called last night to come in on my day off because there is no one who can run the cash office thanks to basic circumstances. But hey, We are fully staffed...

Sorry all, I've never had good luck with Linksys, this week was no exception. I router began to fail even though the damn thing is less than a year old. New one installed and I'm back up and running.

Other than that I was on my long stretch with a new store manager. Brand new ideas that I'm expected to basically sacrifice my entire life to ensure that my zone is turned around NOW!!!!!!!!

Most of the ideas make absolutely no sense, but they all worked in California at his store 3 times our size. We are a small store among lots of rural farmers and do-it-yourselfers.

I know I have to reboot my modem/router more often than seems good ...

... rule #1: know thy customer base.

I suppose when the ideas don't pan out, that'll be your fault too !  ;<

In the Elric! rules, there is indeed a spell "Membrane of Law."

But, the Corum supplement does have Membrane of Chaos, as part of its sorcery rules, also.          So, who the hell knows-?      Certainly not my clueless character!     (Int 12, Million spheres 0%)

Maybe it's Saran Wrap of Balance...


Edit-  For fellow book brats, I believe the whole "membrane of law" idea is taken from like the 4th or 3rd novel, where lord Donblas has the Burning God trapped in Nodsakor's tunnels, with such a membrane.

I had some recollection of a similar membrane in the first (I think, at least chronologically) Elric Book Elric of Melnibone where (and I've just thumbed through it to find the reference) they entered a fleshy 'Pulsing Cavern' and passed through an aperture to find the runeswords, but that's just a similar theme ... no mirrors there, and I don't recall the membrane that you mention ...

Yeah, Berta -- see that's why I follow you!    You've got one more Int point than me. ;)

One person's membrane is another's shimmering skin, I guess -- but (as I remember) the overall description is alot like the spell in the core book, and I think because Donblas made it, they added it in there as a spell of law.

Both Chaos and Law love to use their "anti-law" or "Anti-Chaos" membranes.
There were a few in the two towers, though then again they were inside of a being.
There was the membranes protecting the twin swords. The membrane holding the banished fire lord like Esyld said.

If i remember right there was a comment in one of the books that the YK was enveloped in a barrier that held the Chaos lords back, which was why it was so hard the first time. I THINK Arioch himself said it on their 2nd or 3rd meeting.

If I remember right when they went to R'lin K'ren A'a there were several crystalline portals in the two large buidlings (the eyes)

You can see the Game Designers loudly bewailing, "Why did the Author write it like that ?!!" and then tweaking the concept enough just to fit it into a logical rules system.  ;>

The time has flown and passed. Once more I want to congratulate everyone who made it another year.

Roughly this time last year they did disappear for a few weeks with a comment about not being back till after Christmas. This may be the same but there was no warning this time.

Not sure if I posted it here but I did get a new job at the beginning of this month myself. While my shifts are "worse" (according to my wife, though in reality the only difference between my new shift and the old is that I get to see my son FAR more often.) The job is 300% less stress for doing roughly the same thing.

I feel I have more time to sit at a computer (with my notes) rather than trying to deal with the game, at work, on my cell, without notes. I should be able to put more attention into my posting thanks to this.

If indeed Esyld is gone I'm going to keep the group as it is. I might open it up again, but I'm going to let the group be the deciding factor. In essence I'm going to let Democracy be the final say on the submitted Character. (YES I'll let the applicant know that in advance that they are going to be scrutinized by more than just me)

I had noticed that Esyld seemed to be posting less and less. Too bad. I really liked her character. Maybe she will be found again after the holidays.

But I don't think the player attrition is a reflection on how you've been running the game at all, just one of those things.  Had it myself in my games and seen exactly the same thing in most if not all of them ...

Basically comes down to advertising for new blood and having the time to put the effort into writing them into the plot and getting them up to speed, knowing in the back of your mind that one or more may end up dropping out anyway, through no fault of your own.

However, I heartily echo Angrboda - you've been doing a really great job, all the more impressive given your RL difficulties - I've certainly been loving every minute of it !   I don't think you need to change a damn thing ! ;>

This is a great game and I've had tons of fun playing mostly because of the GM and players.

There would always be players attrition, due to RL reasons and the very nature of Rpol. The fact we have a steady core group of four players is merit badge for you the GM.

While I wouldn't mind more PCs I don't see the added value, as Berta said, it would take a lot of effort to do so and there is a good chance (due to player attrition) that in a couple of months we'd be still without that player.

I think we are deep into the adventure, we have a lot of in-game history between the different PCs, so my vote would be to stick with the current group.

Sorry folks --   didn't mean to drop off the face of the earth (or the multiverse) -- it was mostly a situation of getting busy, thinking "I really need to drop in and do a post!" and then not doing so.

The last time I checked in -- honestly -- I was having a bit of a hard time understanding what was going on.    I'd planned to come back and do a more thorough back reading, but never got to it.

In general, I feel the GM has done a very creditable job of keeping an interesting story running over a very long period of time.    Something few GMs ever get to claim!
With such a long tale, some parts have interested me more than others, but that's only to be expected.

I will have time for some posts over the next week, but then after will likely drop out till after X-mas.    Will do a better job making it known I'm going to be away, when that's the case.

Thanks for the heads up, this time of the year is always busy for just about everyone.

As I said in a prior post, I know you had obligations last year, I was hoping that it was much the same. I, as everyone knows, have had my own issues simply trying to get logged in some weeks.

I remember when GameStop used to sell physical copies of games. Lol. I still have my Command and Conquer games somewhere.

I had a problem accessing my Steam account because I forgot my PW and they asked me to provide them with the serial number for the first game I bought and used their service on, DOD on the halflife platform from like 1998ish.  I was like "You really expect me to still have that?"  I actually had to threaten to write the attorney general and leave bad press on tech sites to get them to give me my account back.  Side note, almost all of my games are bought by my friend because I did not have a bank account for a very long time....lol

I'm old school.  I like having a copy of the disc, just as I like paperback books and music CDs and movie DVDs.  Don't have to worry about password/account problems.  Of course, if the house ever burns down I'm in trouble ... ;>

Yeah, I appreciate the risk. Even with insurance, some of this stuff you just can't get anymore.  A long time out of print.  We're very unlikely to get flooded (on high ground with a good slope), but fire is definitely an issue.  Not the computer games so much (as you say, worst comes to the worst there's always Steam), but the books and DVDs.  :<

Sorry everyone. I've been in and out of the dentist for the last week. Cracked a tooth, which set off a chain reaction of tooth issues.

Novocaine, Dental work, and a massive head cold that I still have to shake had me only waking and working to what limited extent I could. Add in the end of the school year for both my kids and lots of events going on (track and field day, choir events, ect.)

Just wanted to pop in as I realized that it had been a week since I've posted.

My kids are done with school on the 24th and 31st respectfully so events are starting to wind down.

Does the Wings of Lassa spell provide wind enough to help us out here?

Creates a 2d6+6 wind. Would translate into roughly 4-8 knots for your vessel. Adding 8 knots would start to require sailing checks to not capsize.

So could I cast it going the other direction to hinder the other ship?

If you cast it at the other ship (range sight) you would create a "windmine" Where the other ship would hit the location you set for the wind. You can definitely set it to counter the wind already blowing.

Center it on yourself, you can increase your speed, but you better hold on to something as it is centered on you.

The store I have worked at for almost a year just recently closed with only a few weeks notice. While I was transferred to a new store on the 24th, I've also been looking for a new job. I'm not a fan of driving over an hour for the same pay.

It wasn't till a bit ago that I realized that I simply have not looked at the computer for more than playing a few stress releasing games and looking for a new job. I apologize and I'll update here shortly.

Yay for corporate BS!  I just had a veterans day concert for 2nd graders dropped into my lap as a substitute....lol.  At least I get (substantially) more pay for long term positions....lol.

I, supposedly, had the last two days off. At least that is what my schedule said. After finding tiny things wrong since Wednesday I've been able to get the books balanced to within $7. I started at over 2k off. Went in yesterday and today to try and train another person in who already had a few days with earlier. I still have to finish non-vitals tomorrow for the last 2 days as I spent Sat and today catching up since Wednesday. By tomorrow I should have everything squared away... YAY!

The important thing is my car was WAY worse than it sounded. Bearing was cracked, water had gotten in and rust was beginning. One wrong bump or hit could have split the whole thing. Glad I took it in and didn't discover the split on the highway in winter, heck it has already started to snow, we usually have at least another week (till Thanksgiving) before snow fell.

Cars ... yes, we hate the extra expense when they find problems, but it's so much better to know about the problem than to find yourself stranded and have to deal with it anyway after the fact.  :>

That wednesday I talked about, was the last time I've had off.
I'm currently between computers thanks to me building a new one for xmas.

Long story short. I cannibalized a few parts to save a few bucks. Things didn't work the way I planned, had to take the PSU from my computer as the PSU i had laying around was "just" a hair under what was needed and not powering properly.

In the process of taking my PSU, and replacing it with the new one that fits mine decent enough, I've somehow created a short in my computer, and it will no longer power up. It is to the point where I've unseated the whole damn thing and it will still not power up.

Computer that is "now" intact is having issues not recognizing the HDD, even after trying to reinitialize it with the new MB.

I'm going to try and cobble something together with the spare parts in my basement, but I have no idea when I'll have time to do it.

That, and the time of year isn't helping any.

Tis the season ... and between Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas I've no idea how those of you based in the US cope !  I've only got the last of the three to worry about and that's more than enough !  <grins>

I've been there before with the computer - a couple of years back I got brave enough to transfer everything from one case to another, only to find nothing happened when I pressed the button.

If it helps, I eventually worked out that it was the cable connections on the front panel (the HDD LED, Power LED, Power switch, Reset switch and Turbo LED) that I'd plugged in wrongly - the diagram I'd found on the net turned out to be incorrect as a subsequent search revealed, so I got lucky and it was an easy fix.

Sooo, super funny.

I wait forever to get my stuff. I'm there watching TV, putting my computer together, just cruising along.

I get to my PSU and put it in. I got this really nice zipper bag that holds all the cables. I open the bag and pull out the MB main connector. I start unwinding it, only to find that some of the wires are crossed. The connectors can not spread more than a few inches apart. I have this long cable that essentially forms a U shape thanks to these crossed wires. Completely useless.

I Finally got a new cable, and I'm up and running Yay! Spent all day yesterday installing programs...

Well done !  Particularly that you can even find the programs you need to reinstall !  ;>

Great to be here, sorry for a long silence, I switched job a month ago and it is very demanding job. I hope with the New Year and everything I'll be able to reach an equilibrium again.

You usually head to some glorious Christmas vacation. It usually slowed down at this time, so no worries. I know all about the job change, I'm still suffering from it asim forced to teach people how to do books, when they don't have a knack for it, grrr.

I have the information I need but I am certain it probably took at least 30 minutes to an hour to get it, so I am waiting for the group to interact a bit before I post again.

It's fairly clear that we have lost Rael. I know people get busy and lose track of time. I had to leave for a few days myself unexpectedly.

Lately I've been trying to balance "dragging" the group forward and letting you drive the inquiry.  However my own lack of posting seems to make it difficult to push forward sometimes.

I'm at a loss of what to do as to much dragging and I'm just telling a story.  Yet not enough and it is obvious that things stagger to a halt.

Any suggestions?

Angrboda's players decision to hold off due to the time it'd take to get the info probably did slow us down, though I'd have done the exact same thing ... well, at least till I noticed the GM frowning at me !  <grins>

I do think Rael will be back if/when he can, but in the meantime we're just going to have to forge ahead and hope.

Unlike the earlier sections of the game (palace, ship, other ship, wizard's tower), the progression since we crossed paths with Not-Khazim has seemed a lot more linear - I've not found many options to decide 'left or right', it's more roleplaying with what's put in front of us.  Again, I'm not only happy to do that but enjoy it just as much, but it can cause things to bog down as it does require the GM to draw a line and move us on and that's a hard line to judge (I'm having the exact same problem in one of my D&D games, in fact, both with the current adventure path and having lost a couple of players - and having gone through the recruit/lose/recruit/lose cycle a few times it's hard to know what to do next).

To be honest, I'm very keen to go on, even with just the three of us active players, and don't mind at all if the pacing is slow.  Our GM's posts set up interesting bits and pieces to react to and I love all the other players characterizations, so what's not to love ?!!  :>

Up to here there was always a town around the corner, or a person who you could have talked to, or some route you could have taken.

Here, not so. You have a single lead, a blatant bad guy chasing you, and everyone is gathered together. You've got "all" the keys but not sure what is next. The next section brings back the feeling of choices.

I didn't want to presume to move people forward without them being ready, at least in some capacity.

I have not abandoned the game. I'm still here, waiting and hoping. Work has essentially apologized for the situation we are in.
They even allowed me to open 4 positions to help. Once they are trained in  (or at least when the survivors are ready) I'll take a look at how things are sitting.

Not having to work multiple days in overtime may help with my burnout. It got so bad that I've nearly switched jobs, I have my 3rd interview on Wednesday, though I'm not sure now since the acknowledgement that we were right and the situation is essentially "not our fault" the new positions are somewhat proof that they are taking the senior staff here seriously for a change

<grins> Oddly enough, I can imagine our characters transplanted to a modern setting ... but I avoid adult games, so sadly not for me.   ;>

I'm mostly interested in Runequest, of whatever flavour.  I mostly play D&D (anything from Basic through to Pathfinder), but I've always admired the Runequest system.

I'd be tempted to run a Runequest game myself (could even NPC Berta) - I'm fairly newly returned to the system after having played a couple of decades ago, but I inherited a wide selection of 2nd and 3rd edition material a couple of years back and in my favour I've never abandoned a game either as player or GM in my life ... but that would have to wait six months or so until I get all my ducks in a row.

I've never played either of those systems, lol.

Way back when I was playing RQ2, so I've got passing familiarity with it ... to my mind RQ3 was an attempt to make the background a bit more fantasy-generic ... ah, yeah, here's the Wiki entry - RQ3 was licenced to Avalon Hill, but Chaosium kept copyright on Gloriantha:

Basic Role Playing was a simplified version of Runequest (I've played both and wouldn't have thought them much different) and as I understand it Stormbringer/Elric and the ilk were setting specific versions of that.

We're not due to get our first jab till May/June, but we've just checked to make sure our local GP has got us on their list.  Don't want them to forget about us !
