Re: OOC Thread
In the newer rules demons are a HUGE sacrifice in points but there are a few ways to do it.
The newer books do not go into such grisly detail on ways to increase the MP needed. So I get to take a page from the older ones.
Sacrifice - one of the easiest ways to gain the MP and POW needed. Simply line a bunch of human batteries up after hours of preparation. Cast chain of being, which allows up to 8 individuals to "pool" the MP needed to cast. AS long as you leave 1 MP in each vessel you can drain it all. The bodies are then disposed of in any way you see fit. Sometimes the POW of the bodies are pledged to whatever demon you are summoning if it is powerful enough.
Considering that the most "common" manufacturer of demon/magic items were the Melniboneans, and they commonly just used slave to do it, This route is one reason why so many hate them. It is also one reason why so many people fear being taken by the Pan Tangians as they are now the ones "mass producing" these items.
Battery - Brazier of power allows a sorcerer to create a reserve of power. Once created you can "Store" up to your POW in MP into the item. It essentially doubles your available MP. Downside is that the Brazier is stationary. Sadly you can not combine Chain of Being and Brazier of Power to create a super focus.
Binding are rather easy, especially if you are going with the sacrificial route.
Temp binding is only a test of will (POW vs POW) and a sacrifice of a single point of POW. Eternal binding (Like a magic sword) take 3 POW. SO, a pool of drugged up "sacrifices" can be used to fuel this POW sacrifice.
That being said, if you are summoning a demon for a single immediate task (Break down that door) and not binding, there is no sacrifice of POW instead you just have to satisfied whatever requirement the demon asks. It could be as simple as "Do the truffle shuffle for my amusement" to "Let me eat a perfect Lemon Meringue Pie made by using only your feet"
Rebinding is also fairly "cheep" a single point of POW and a struggle of wills is all you usually need to attune it to you. (I'm not going to bother with the whole re-summmon stuff). The thing is, MOST bound greater demons and magic items WANT to finish their service and contract. Sitting in a trunk in some old dungeon will not do that. Most "smart" ones are willing let you rebind them on the off chance that you can possibly fulfill their service and go home. Lets use the example of Stormbringer/Mournblade, there was no transference of anything when others had to use them for a short bit. That is because they knew that they NEEDED to be wielded by someone to fulfill their role, and they did not care WHO did it.
So in faith with the stories, Rebinding is merely a test of wills for my games in most cases.
I hope this helps.
