Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

Banished.  That was the word they used.  Banished. Exiled. Banned. Cut off. Disowned. All words to say: We do not want you here anymore. You scare us. You are an anomoly. Leave now.

Words that are still ever present in the back of your mind. That drive your actions and desires.  Cut off from Csilla and the Ascendency and everything you have known, thrust out into the greater galaxy and lost among the insanity that is the chaos and anarchy of the Rim Worlds.  The Republic is a pale shell and laughing wannabe version of the Chiss Ascendency. And even there you would not be free, as the Jedi would seek you out. Hunt you down. Run experiments to determine WHY you are. HOW you are. WHAT makes you possible. All questions you have asked yourself, but ones that lack answers.

As the stars streaked by, and the ship continued to move across the galaxy at speeds faster then light itself, your personal thoughts and reminitions are interrupted.

"You ready for this?  I know this is not as glamarous and clean and shiny as your stuck up Empire, but this is how us real people make our way in the galaxy. And if you want to survive, then you need to get dirty.  So here is your first step. Are you ready to help me track this low life down?"

Standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame, Char looked like the old and grizzled bounty hunter he sounded.  He was older, probably in his late 40s, and his arms and face showed the scars of a life of combat and hard work. His two blasters were always on his hips and looked as worn as thier owner.  His Trandoshan partner sat at the small table re-assembling his rifle after cleaning it.  He made a grunting noise and then went back to his assembly.

"I will even let you bring us out of hyperspace.  First time and all that. Should be a big moment. Your first REAL step in making your way in this cold and lonely galaxy."

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

Zonvar gave the briefest of nods to the rugged older man. Certainly this was not what he was used to but he parted ways with luxury and comfort long ago. Getting use to his predicament was the harshest lesson he had to endure. So he focused on the here and now. "I"m as ready and  prepared as my experience and training will allow for. To quote the human expression...I"m locked and loaded,"he declared with a slight grin.

Zonvar slid into the control chair while checking over the instruments on the console before placing his gloved hands on the control " Coming out of hyperspace."

"Now wait for the counter to reach zero.  And once it goes off, pull back on that lever there.  Once we have dropped out, bring up the sublight engines.  And then bring up the particle shields.  I would prefer us to not make it all this way, then have our hull punctured by a rogue asteroid."

Char stood behind Zonvar and checked over some of the other instruments. He nodded to himself and looked over at his partner.  "Looks good so far. You might just be able to take over from Teelk one day."

Teelk laughed in that Trandoshan way.  "Yeah right. This one thinks he can come in and take over. Funny."

Char grunted in laughter and looked back at Zonvar. "You think you are ready to bring us into atmosphere?"

Zonvar hit the buttons in their sequences and began as Char had instructed. It hadn't  been that long since he last piloted a craft, but his mind was still distracted by his exile. He immediately focused on the task at hand.

I"m good but i"m nowhere near as good as Teelk. Give me a couple years", he said while glancing over his shoulder."I"ll set her down nice and easy. So what's the story on the low life we"re going after?"

Teelk laughed again the that weird throaty/hissing noise Trandoshans make.  He went back to his duties of contacting the local spaceport, updating the nav computer, and all the other things that needed done after each hyperspace jump.

Char leaned over one of the screens and hit a few buttons.  "Here you go.  Some wanna-be big timer who thought he could go in and hijack a shipment of cutting edge droid brains.  Of course, the company did not like that much, so they put out a bounty on him when their own security could not track him down.  Rumor has it he used to frequent the taverns and haunts on this planet.  Soe we are going to ask around and see if anyone knows where he might be hiding out."

He then leaned back and watched as Zonvar brought the ship down closer to the landing pad.

After listening he had wondered how some of these criminals could be so stupid. If this guy was smart he would have booked passage on the fist shuttle out off world. Then again, if low lives all of a sudden started to gained even a modicum of intelligence I'd be unemployed, he mused to himself. His attention returned to the landing pad.

Zonvar stood from the cockpit after he was satisfied with the landing protocol. "So I gather we will be able to keep the criminal's weapons and ammo once we subdue him.? No point in paying for some thing that has already been provided. " He clasped both hands together as his facial expression remained somewhat optimistic

Char shrugs and looks over at Teelk.  "The bounty is for the body. Never says anything about the items FOUND on the body. Or those personal items he might possess. That is kind of a grey area.  Sometimes people want specific items back and can ask/demand them. If it is not part of the contract, then they can strike a bargain. I usually go along with the requests unless it is something ridiculous. But not everyone is as nice as me..."

He trails off and laughs a little to himself.  Then he slaps Zonvar on the back and starts walking away. "You got this, kid. I am going to gear up and hit the taverns as soon as you land this thing."

His voice trailed off as he walked out of the cockpit and back into the ship.

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

He took a moment to mentally prepare for the trials ahead, for there would be many in this new life he chose.  If he could make it through this first bounty the rest would just fall into place. In fact Zonvar had hoped years from now he wouldn't even remember how this all started, but that was just wishful thinking.

A few minutes later he stood up from the cockpit with resolve burning in his crimson eyes "So it begins." Moments later he found himself strapping on his goggles and grabbing his trusty heavy blaster rifle.

Char walked past Zonvar and slapped him on the back.  "Better hurry up, kid.  Or we might be done before you get off the ship."

He stood in front of Zonvar for a moment and smiled at him before heading out.  He looked different in his hunter uniform.  He had a worn leather vest with metal strips worked in.  He had two belts strapped on, one with a holster and blaster on each hip.  He had a long sword on his back as well as 2 grenades strapped to his chest.  There were a few random items on his legs and strapped over his lower back.

Teelk stood up as well pulling the straps tight on his pack.  His large rifle strapped on his back just barely stuck up over his head.  He had a sensor eye patch over one eye and a scanner in his ear.  He had knives of various length strapped to his chest and a collapsable net across his lower back.  Small spikes came out of his boots.  He strapped the pack tight, then checked the small hidden blades he kept in the sleeves of his jacket.

"We will be down at The Wailing Bantha when you are ready, little one."  He laughed in that hissing noise as he turned and walked to the landing ramp.

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

After glancing over at both Teekl and Char"s weapons, Zonvar felt slightly under-geared by comparison. In fact, his weapon of choice was nothing more than a blaster rifle and his fist should it come to that. Now he was somewhat doubting himself and perhaps considering getting a knife to complement his underdeveloped arsenal.

Without any further thought on the mater Zonvar quickly grabbed his equipment then followed the other two bounty hunters of the ship."Right behind you."He placed his long range comlink in his ear and matched the frequency of his team mates.

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

As they walked into the bar, the atmosphere changed drastically.  It went from the bright and busy streets to the dark, droning tones of many conversations happening at once.  Since it was early afternoon, the bar was not too crowded. Still, there were enough variety of creatures and species inside to give Zonvar a pause.  This was the most diverse crowd of species he had seen in......probably ever.   Char gave him a moment to soak up the scene before he started forward.

"Ok, kid. Just watch me and keep quiet.  Keep an eye out for anyone looking suspicious or strange. Teelk will watch the crowd in case our guy is in here. Most likely this is just a fact finding mission.  But you never know. Sometimes you luck out and just happen to run into the guy right away."

Char walked over to the bar and sat down next to a shady looking Twi'lek.  Char started speaking in Huttese and Zonvar was quickly lost by the conversation.

Teelk stood next to Zonvar and remained quiet as his eyes and electronic sensor scanned the room for their target.

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

He had never seen so many different species in one place or at all for that matter. There were even alien species that he didn't even recognize. If he where any other Chiss, the xenophobia would have been overwhelming. Fortunately for him he saw all aliens as equals. This radical view did not make Zonvar popular amongst his own people. This may take some time to become accustom to all this...wait is that Devaronian? he though to himself before going back to blending into the atmosphere.

He stood next to Teelk trying to look as casual as possible. While  he scanned the room he was hit by a  variety of smell that wafted everywhere at once. Still he focused on the crowd.

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

Looking over the crowd, the variety of species was amazing.  The background drone of many conversations in many languages was like nothing Zonvar had ever heard before.  Certainly not something the Ascendency would allow.  The disorder and chaos and sheer anarchy of that room was more alien then any exotic species.  And yet, something called to his very being....

"The shady one is watching us. He tries to be clever but he does not fool us with skill. He might not be our target, but he might be of interest."

Teelk reached down and pulled out a mini datalink.  He held it up just high enough to get an image of the one in question without being obvious. He then looked back down and grunted to himself.

"It seems we have more then 1 interesting party.  I spot another bounty. Not as good as the other, but easy credits are easy credits. "

Teelk then slid back into the crowd and started to work his way over to his target.  He was a very nervous looking Duros.  He kept looking around the room, and then moved to a table near the back of the bar and in the shadows.

Char was still over at the bar talking to the Twi'lek.

Re: Zonvar: New Allies, New Enemies

It was moments of diversity like these that actually made relishing the fact that he was no longer a part of the ascendancy that much more enjoyable. Even the idea of meeting some attractive alien female was now plausible, but he couldn't entertain those ideas at the moment.

"Two on my first venture, this bodes well for us. That and I could really use the credits." He told Teelk as casually and quietly so as not to alert the patrons. He too blended into his surroundings

Teelk laughed again in that hissing sound. "More credits always make for good day. And taking down scum even better."

He moved closer to the shady character and then stopped.  He clicked his comlink on and spoke quietly into it.

"We might have a problem.  Looks like we are not the only ones here stalking prey.  HE is here as well."  The extreme hatred and bile could be heard dripping from his voice. "He will be lucky if I do not finish him this time."

"Woah, whoah.  Slow down.  Nothing in public. We can wait until he goes outside and then take care of business.  Just do not spook the prey."

Char stood up from the bar and slapped the Twi'lek on his back.  He then turned and started scanning the crowd.

"Now where is the son of a hutt!??!?"

Zonvar had no idea who this "He" was but clearly there was bad blood amongst them. He really didn't want his chances to be blown for a double bounty. If it came down to it he would throw in with these new team mates and bare the brunt of all consequences, should they get caught. Before he could ask what this was all about Teelk had already walked away and he could hear Char over the com link.

"Whoa, calm down. He will get his. And I do not care if there is a bounty on his head or not. We will make SURE he pays. But not here, not in public. And especially NOT with those security goons here."

As if on cue, the security personnel moved in closer to As'terban. One of then leaned in and talked to him for a moment, then stood back up and walked outside. As'terban handed the bartender a credit chip, then turned to leave the bar.
