I can start anytime you have a rough character in mind...or you can start RP at the local watering hole if you have the basics worked out...such as careers etc.

T'risa and crew are new arrivals on "vacation" to ay low and stay out of sight for a while..and assist locals with more frequent raids by Onai, and Q'sa raiders/pirates/slavers.

The system has a pretty solid self defense squadron, but several outling systems have been hardpressed to repell attacks in the past few months.

new players have arrived here by chance, or have gotten work with the local colonial assistance operations. An outfit named CASAR is always recruiting and with wardrums beating everyone is hiring new employees who can handle a gun or handle..other than normal work assignments.

and since Valkiir run the planet there are always some sort of mischief to get into...they are laid back like that...as long as you dont cause any trouble locally they dont care what your up to...

Typically it's something we would have taught each other

Well, for the benefit of anyone considering a connection T'risa is a social leader tactician type. She's a battle witch (In this setting that's someone who predicts battles and tactics using precognition and telepathy to make things go better for us).

She's been an agent which didn't go well and joined the Navy before being exiled from the Tau Imperium for trading in genetic material. She's been a Colonial Marshal now for a time.

TBH most of T'risa terms could be considered as having rolled the mishap table.

Think agent Gibbs from NCIS :)

Wow this character generator takes you places you wouldn't expect.

I'm looking at mustering out of the Imperial navy as a legendary captain.

I started in engineering and my path just went kind of crazy. I might have served as a captain or senior officer on a drop ship and I was an aide to a senior admiral so I could easily have connections with military and agents if you were involved with some hush hush dealings with the navy. I'll hopefully finish my last tour tonight and ill post a full bio so people have spots to jump in if they want to make a connection.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

From a previous game, I've found it easier to make connections when everyone knows how many terms everybody has served and what Events they have had, and can then match up. For instance:-

1 Term ago - Scouts: Exploration
Your scout ship is one of the first on the scene to rescue survivors of a destroyed freighter. Gained an Enemy.

2 Terms ago - Scouts: Exploration
You spend a great deal of time on the fringes of known space. Gained Contact in an alien race and one level in any skill of choice.

3 Terms ago - Scouts: Exploration
Life Event. Betrayal. Gained a Rival.

4 Terms ago - Navy: Flight
Disaster! Mishap - you are blamed for the deaths of several crew members.

Perhaps the GM can set up a thread for discussions?

Hi everyone!  Looking forward to RPing with you.

Elsbeth is also interested in connections (she has one with T'risa already, as they go back a number of years - the previous Pax Bellum game..:D).  She has the following (equivalent - since she is converted character) terms:
    Last Term
    Marine/Ground Assault (CMC)
Not sure - probably Black Ops or Planetary Assault or Trapped Behind Enemy lines...

    2 Terms Ago
    Marine/Ground Assault (CMC)
    Improved Relationship - Romance (Balkiir)

    3 Terms Ago
    Rogue/Enforcer
    Bloodsports and a Prison Escape

    4 Terms Ago
    Agent/Corporate (Bodyguard)
Mishap - Severely Injured (Incident on Enchoa Rhi/Jannissary Station, charge killed)

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Skill Packages
As a group, select one of the following skill packages, which are
collections of basic skills you will use while adventuring and
travelling. Taking a skill package ensures that your group will at
least have basic competency in the situations that will come up in
the game. When you have collectively decided which skill package is
most suitable for the campaign you want to play, each player takes
it in turns to select an item from the package. Keep going until all
skills have been selected.

Traveller Skill Package: This is an all-round skill package, good for
a campaign where the characters are trading one week and blowing
things up the next.
Pilot (any) 1, Sensors 1, Comms 1, Gunner (any) 1, Gun Combat
(any) 1, Persuade 1, Stealth 1, Medic 1.

Mercenary Skill Package: This skill package focuses on ground
combat, and is obviously aimed at combat-heavy games.
Sensors 1, Comms 1, Medic 1, Leadership 1, Heavy Weapons (any) 1,
Gun Combat (any) 1, Gun Combat (any) 1, Stealth 1.

Starship Skills Package: This is for campaigns where the characters
will spend almost all their time on their spacecraft.
Pilot (any) 1, Gunner (any) 1, Engineer (any) 1, Mechanic 1, Sensors
1, Medic 1, Comms 1, Astrogation 1.

My vote is for the Mercenary package :)

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Ok, barring any extra complications my background is:

Last term: Drifter
Lynn has been moving from place to place, avoiding trouble as best she can.
Complication: Attacked by enemies. Hired goons trying to drag her back to a place she'd rather not go again. She escaped, but took a beating that left her weakened. She gained an Ally during this time.

Term Previous: Navy Engineer
Ranked up to an Able Space Hand. Gained Int and Edu. Got herself into a Gambling ring and walked away with an Air/Raft.

Term Previous: Navy Engineer
Focused on Engineering and ship design. Received advanced training in ship design.

First term: Dilettante
Daughter of Governor/General Winters, owner of a mining facility/asteroid base. Lived as heir to the empire for a while but never agreed with her father's militaristic ways. Ran away.

Mixtzin has spent 6 tours with the Quetzl Ilhuicac Yaotlahueliloque (Star Marines), much of it engaged in various actions.  He emerged from his career as a full colonel, highly skilled surgeon, with a sideline in piloting capital ships.

Tour 6: Front lines of planetary assault and occupation (Gained - Recon)
Tour 5: Trapped behind enemy lines (Gained - Survival)
Tour 4: Assigned to assault an enemy fortress (Gained - Tactics [Military])
Tour 3: Front lines of planetary assault and occupation (Gained - Gun Cbt [Slug Pistol])
Tour 2: Assigned to assault an enemy fortress (Gained - Tactics [Military])
Tour 1: Advanced training (Gained - Remote Operations)

He could use a couple of contacts, with a view towards boosting his skill in Battle Dress and Heavy Weapons.  If anyone is interested, I should be able to write a short story to explain each of the boosts, and how our characters met.

Quite an achievement how many characters have ..Started Intergalactic  war on their resume...

Anyone with military background has a chance to know one another....and anyone with Fleet, or nobility connections would know that someone from T'risa's family was involved in a major battle a few years back...it made the news....for a few weeks running...and her appearance before the Senate Select Committee was a highly rated special...

oh by the way unlike Traditional Traveller this world does have almost real time interstellar information systems...the lag time is measured in hours or days but it's fast enough for their to be interstellar news channels..and entertainment.

Brief career highlights of Commodore Kalaperna's career:

At 18 she won a coveted scholarship to the Imperial Naval Academy where she studied Engineering with the goal of becoming an Engineering officer.

Commissioned Ensign, served on the anti-pirate sloop Agrasai.

Took command of a cutter during the famous suppression of the pirate nest in the Inasuk Nebula. Cited for bravery.

Transferred to Engineering upon promotion to Lieutenant.

Served as an Electronics officer aboard the destroyer Pedifer. Performed well under fire while her immediate superiors panicked. Gained a rival.

Tapped for leadership training.

Evacuated the Wreck of the Pedifer after it suffered catastrophic battle damage of Alaxis.

Recruited into command on the basis of her skill with small craft.

Commanded the Galatana, a small patrol sloop.

Transferred to the staff of Admiral Raxos

Lead the boarding action on the rebel cruiser Besserman. Gained an Ally

Recruited to High Command

Commanded the Cruiser Benjamin King

Abused position in some shady deal to gain an extra benefit

Commanded a major evac operation and gained a powerful ally.

Mustered out:

Gained an independent operation

--------------------------------------

Possible Connections:

Lynn is it possible that you pointed a senior fleet officer in the direction of something profitable, both for herself and the Empire?

Major Evacuation: Another possible contact point

Anyone with time in the navy might have run across me as a legendary captain. I mustered out as a commodore.

Gained an Independent operation: I'm hoping the older players can help me put something together here. I am thinking a mercenary operation, an experienced officer who grows frustrated with official channels might decide to make her Military Contractors go after Intel in a less conventional manor?

I like both ideas as to pushing you toward the Psionic Institute - maybe I pushed you there for your own good, recognising another troubled soul (like me), and if the 'greater good' was helped also then that's fine too.

Lynn Winters:
Term Previous: Navy Engineer
Focused on Engineering and ship design. Received advanced training in ship design.

First term: Dilettante
Daughter of Governor/General Winters, owner of a mining facility/asteroid base. Lived as heir to the empire for a while but never agreed with her father's militaristic ways. Ran away.

Lynn - maybe you met/had a brief relationship with a handsome Navy fighter pilot after running away from home, and that sparked your interest in all things Naval/ships? Perhaps prior to said pilot's ejection from said service? So this would be end of Term 1 for both of us, or close to it. How it went or ended is entirely up to you, and feel free to ignore this suggestion!

Balkiir and I have met previously, and as I said before this would have to be either 1 or 3 terms ago for me.

I'd suggest this last term (the destroyed freighter idea was mine). Perhaps having hauled Balkiir's platoon out of that tight spot we passed this stricken vessel on the way, and - with no Medic or Engineer skill to hand - Cain opted to leave it be. Someone else on board could have taken umbrage at that, hence the Enemy gained.

I'll leave open my Connection for 3 terms ago for now. There are a number of possibilities there, including T'risa (falsely accused of a crime then while I was betrayed!) and Elsbeth even though we have just RP'd introductions.

Cain's background might be described as 'shady', but he's not very open on that subject. Could have connected with Nera through a bunch of channels, and might have been on the opposite side of Kendrick on more than one occasion!

I think it's fine. Likely as not it ended because Lynn up and left.

Thinking it over, no need for me to keep secrets OOC. Lynn left her home because she hated the way her father did things and she fled without permission from the Governor/General. And even now, years later, her father still has thugs out scouring the galaxy for her to drag her home. So there's investigators and hired goons out there hunting her down. So anyone who wants to know Lynn from her early Dilettante ways would know she fled from her father's little empire and has no intention of going back.

Works for me. Cain believes bad luck follows him everywhere, so a girl walking out on him without word of warning fits nicely. Likely thinks it was his fault!

Even if he gets word that hired goons were responsible he'll think they were after him - as I said before, Cain has something of a shady background, which tends to follow him around, even when he 'bettered himself' and made it into the Navy.

I have

My last suggestion should have been meant for Nera, the Legendary Captain

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

You're right the maximum contacts is 2.

Basically a connection is a link between you and another PC. It incentivizes everyone knowing each other and party cohesion.

You define a point in time when you make the connection and you learn a skill from each other.

"The connections between characters rule can give you bonus skills. At this stage, you may make (or finalise) a connection between your character and up to two other player characters. For each connection you make, you may gain one level in any skill, but you cannot bring a skill above level 3 using this rule nor may you take the Jack of all Trades skill."

For RP purposes this should be a skill the other person taught you or that you used while making the connection.

You managed to rally your men and with my knowledge and your fighting skills we were able to pull it out of the fire.

With respect to specific Connection requests, I am sorry about the delay.  I am more than willing to connect (whether or not skills are involved - i.e., Prometheus willing, I'm willing to have more than two connections).  More specifically:

Alex:  I'd love to have some help with the prison break, it is part of Elsbeth's established backstory (she is a migrant from Prometheus' previous Pax Bellum game incarnation).  The prison has been previously established to be specifically on Enchoa Rhi.  What we know of Enchoa Rhi (via our illustrious GM) is:
Enchoa Rhi:  A Tae (terran) core colony that was taken over by Shiva, the Planetary AI, that governed the colony. Extensive eugenics were used by Shiva to breed bureaucrats, soldiers and bodyguards, often enhanced with cyberware or given completely cybernetic bodies.
When Shiva was destroyed by the Terran AI known as Prometheus and six battalions of Tae marines, Enchoa Rhi was occupied by marines and the Colonial Authority admin for nearly 20 years.  Conditions went from bad to worse after the marines pulled out and the CA found bigger fish to fry.  Currently, the colony is violent, nearly lawless and a haven for criminal organizations, minor warlords, and less than reputable corporations.

If you are still interested in connecting, I'll draft up some additional detail for you to peruse.

Mixtlin:  Semper Fi, my friend.  Once a marine always a marine.  If you want to know Elsbeth (either through T'risa or Balkiir or separately), just let me know.  She was in the 359th Force Recon division before latching onto T'risa entourage/unit.  Any planetary assaults before or after she met T'risa would be fine with me.

Kendrick:  Similar to the Mix, but Elsbeth is much younger than you.  I am not sure what you did during your law enforcement days, but if you were on Enchoa Rhi (see Alex's blurb above) as a lawman in the wild west, perhaps we can work out a three-way connection (assuming that Alex is still amenable).

Lynn:  Could have met a long time ago - perhaps your father's mining colony supplied the Jannissary Station where Elsbeth was born and trained at that time.  Elsbeth is a product of eugenics and an accelerated adolescence training/cultivation program.  Perhaps one of the reasons that Lynn ran from her family business was when she saw the circumstances of some of the people working for some of the customers that your father was supplying.  Just a thought.

Cain:  Perhaps three terms ago you helped shuttle/smuggle one or more escaped prisoners off-planet (say... Enchoa Rhi)?  Could have earned you a Rival - perhaps one of your fellow explorers tried to rat you out?

Nera:  I'm actually not sure of the exact timing of your terms (I tried to parse your history post as best I could) - If your carried Elsbeth's unit on any of your carriers (probably especially two terms ago), that might be a great time to connect.  Plenty of planetary assaults, special ops and such all going on.  So, anywhere on the greyscale can probably be accommodated...

ALSO if anyone wants to work up something to add to the game world Feel free. I love player additions..helps to make the game feel like something you are apart of.

Li''l Miss T'risa helped me work up the Concept of the Battle-witches...precog tactical, and strategic advisers....and something of a force in their own right in TAU and Valkiir circles.

We have a Neph player, which will be interesting. I've only recently decided to open up that race to play and I will love to see how it goes.

Soon I will be putting up a ship or two for purchase or use by team..And the great thing is these are ships I wrote up for Mongoose Publishing and are included in my to be released catalog for them....sadly they recently went into a revision cycle so I will have to rewrite them for the new rules..But you guys get to play with the versions I did already.

Nice, like the Enchoa Rhi connection, so let's do that. Cain was sold-out by an envious rat-faced associate with dubious connections to the Navy known as O'Kenzie Edwardson, but came out of it okay when his superiors secretly congratulated him on a job well-done, while publicly disciplining him. Seeing Cain walk away relatively unharmed only increased O'Kenzie's ire.

I'll expand on this a little from GM info...

Balkiir was with a unit that gave security to a scout operation Cain served on, one that went wrong and ended up with the Marines and scouts protecting a Human minor race stuck in a fort from an Onai raid.

Balkiir owes Cain a few beers for piloting the extraction boat that picked up his platoon - it was a classic scream in blow the hell out of the Onai raiders, drop onto the roof of a burning prefab building then get the hell out pickup. Cain opted to scream in by piloting his ship right through a row of houses across the way from the fort, taking out a whole bunch of Onai as he did so and buying just that little extra time to get everyone out.

The ship was pretty crowded after that and although they might have been able to squeeze a few more on-board Cain opted not to risk it. Someone back at base got wind of it, having heard their brother died on the freighter, and swore to get revenge.

Hmmm... the previous prison break on Enchoa Rhi would have been a few terms back (three to be specific - as per the table in msg #77).  But, I am sure that we can organize some connection in this last term, Tal, if necessary.  If you have a previous connection, with any of the team that is assembling, I am sure that some arrangement can be made to get you out of prison (and thus connect with others along the way).

Here's a publicity Shot of Kronos :D

For those new to the game Krons is a slightly rougish AI who decided he was going to run off and explore the stars...And took his 200kton Dreadnought chassis with him. After a few years of roaming the stars on his own he got bored and took up songwriting....and then became a rock star...Heavy Metal of course.

He sings ead His human girlfriend/fiance sings backup and dances, and he has a pretty solid following among Cyberoids( synthetic life forms), and humans alike. He usually puts on his shows by Hyper-net relay since until recently he was on the TAE most wanted list, and had several dedicated bounty hunter task groups after him.

Of course him showing up to lend a hand during  a major battle and then paying the TAE Fleet for his slightly banged  up Dreadnought body , as well as interest, damages, and penalties...charges were dropped and he now OWNS his very own dreadnought.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Lynn, Cain, Alex, Nera and Mixtzin - I will try to get some verbiage going for any connections brewing; sorry, about the delay.  It has been a hectic couple of days.

As for the campaign Skill Package, Elsbeth can probably find a skill in any of them, though the Merc Package probably has the least appeal to her (she has everything except Medic and Comms, though she actually has Comms/0.  Admittedly, she could take any of the cascade skills with a different specialty, but that is less useful than a new skill, which either other the other packages would offer...).

If Elsbeth has her druthers... Both Starship and Traveller packages have either Gunner or Medic (or possibly Pilot) which would be her choices for the skill from them.  It sounds as though we need Starship skills; so, nominally she would vote for that (though as noted above, either package has the skills she is looking to obtain).

EDIT:  Love Poppy's new avatar.  Just too cool...

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Hey guys a couple questions.

HEV vs Combat Armor. Am I correct in thinking the HEV protects against things the combat armor does not?
Corrosive atmo and heat.

Also when getting armor as a muster out bene we can get any TL available to us, is that right? What limits?

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

The armour and weapon benefits doesn't carry the same verbiage as the other types of benefits, but for pretty much everything else (Combat Implants, Scientific Equipment, &c.), it says that you take the lowest TL for that type of equipment with the first benefit (Traveller Core Rules, pp. 34-5).

I guess that Prometheus would have to make a ruling if Weapons and Armour should follow the same pattern (in which case, it is likely the Combat Armour - which starts at TL-12 might be the better choice, HEVs base level is TL-8 or 9, I believe).

The reverse - being allowed to choose any TL, might get abused a bit, though; the TL-14 HEV, Vacc Sui, Combat Armour, or Subdermal Armour would be an outstanding piece of equipment.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

HEV protects against heat, cold, corrosive gases, toxins, biological agents, and low level radiation... however it does not protect against pressure, or vacuum.

Combat armor can be sealed and protects against everything but corrosie gasses.however it can be used as a VACC Suit at Higher TL..thats why they so expensive.

Now that said the HEV suit will take a lot more environmental damage before it looses integrity, or leaks. You do not want to wade through pools of corrosive sulfuric tainted  sludge/water substitute for long in combat armor.

if you can afford it a nice set of each would be a good investment...use the right tool for the job, due to the brief nature of write ups for most gear there are a lot of small details and advantages left to the GM/Players...I do reward players who take the extra effort to play out those unwritten perks/drawbacks :D such as not having to have your combat armor decontaminated the seals replaced, and the filters scrubbed to get rid of the rotten egg smell from wading through the swamps of Androzani IVc..or having our rubber boots melt while walking through glowing green goop....resulting in an extra toe.

50Cr reward to anyone who knows where that reference comes from.

For me and my special weapon, I doubled the cost of a laser rifle and then I doubled the ammo cost plus half again for ammo but added together to get the replacement cost of the weapon but took tl 16 for the complicacy of the weapon and for all the bells and whistles that it has.

Alex my character is 42 in Human years and six in Cesti years, I looked at the connections between you all.   My character's last stint was with the scouts I might know in passing Cain just not formally and vice versa.    I was first of the scene of a disaster in space.   Four years prior to the SCOUTS, I was in the NAVY, where an unfortunate accident, which cause the death of 47 sailors happened on my watch in the engine room.   I was ultimately exonerated of all guilt but I felt responsible enough to leave the service.   And prior to the NAVY, I served in the ARMY for 16 years.

I acquired one contact while in the army, another in the navy and the last one while in the scouts from my rescuing people or it could be my criminal association with Sal the MOOK.

Tal - I was also first on the scene of a disaster in space last term in the Scouts, so maybe we were joint first? ;) Could be the same disaster, and you could have been crew on the ship I was piloting? If not Cain did serve 3 terms in the Scout Service, so plenty of opportunity for an association there. We could know each other as well or as little (face/name recognition only) as you like.

Tal it looks like you've got options.

If you have lots of cash, might want to check out ways to personalize your gear. You can make your weapon biometrically secured and +1 to Attacks - see Eric's Custom gun in the book.

Also - I really took advantage of the house rule to gain a bonus event by taking a bonus mishap. If you have money you can afford the medical bills for possible injury it is way worth it for many careers.

I have added a new quirk to my background.   What officially got me out of the NAVY was two very important events.   One a very powerful accident which cost the lives of 47 people.   I am not responsible perse but I am responsible because it occurred on my watch while in the engine room.   Two I caught my CO in some illegal activity and I cooperated with the MP's.   In short the official whitewash forced me out.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Actually it's Just a destroyer, the really big boats are in the 20K Displacement ton range...and don't even look a the price tag on a Dreadnought.

A 1% finders fee for recovering a Standard dreadnought is around 1 Billion credits...After the last adventure, and allowing for the group that didn't come over to the new story line..adjusting for their share  of the loot...The party could have a slightly Used Jelisi in the parking bay....but after the TAU Ministry of internal Finance  gets through you may be looking at a used ships boat..

However a few of you have enough money to pool and purchase a nice commercial vessel, corsair, or low end cutter/Barque ( basically a civilian armed vessel about 300-400 tons.) or if your feeling ambitious something along the line of a Merchantman. 700-1000 tons heavily armed and rigged for both commercial and combat use...lots of room for labs workshops, vehicles....but then you would have to hustle to make the upkeep on that puppy...and wages for the larger crew...unless you sweet talk T'risa out of some of her share  of the reward money

a big difference here is that these ships do not have to carry tons of jump fuel since I use the alternate Hyperdrives for this game..so you have more room to play with when you go fixing up your ships..That's whats taking so long have to go back and tweak my Mongoose designs to work with Hyperdrives.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Its in the shop for years, it was buried under the sand of a dead world and got the ever loving hell shot out of it by Kronos.

Kronos Kicking ass in Atmo...Q'sa Zero Kronos one
quote:
The Missile latches on to the heat trail generated by M'kira's engines it;s radars lock on a second later. Streaking at supersonic speeds the missile closes the gap with frightening speed. Though fast the missile is has two weaknesses. It's too fast for the thrusters and airfoils that guide it, and it was programmed by a Najuhlim tech.... Both weakness give M'kira a slim chance of evasion so close to the ground.

The final dive Pushes M'kira into her restraints, pulling out of the dive slams her painfully into the the pading of her armor and acceleration couch. the Ground comes up to meet her and as she pulls out she can see the individual branches on a charred and wind twisted tree as it's upper branches streak past her cockpit. Behind her the missile slams into the ground sending up a geyser of smoke dust and dirt. For a second M'kira can breath easy...

As The agile Qetzl fighter crests a low rise M'kira gets a panoramic view of the ruins of an ancient city buried in a shallow valley. seven crystal spires rise high into the sky and the city seems to go on forever into the distance. As she streaks low over the city small arms fire streaks up at her pinging harmlessly off her armor.
Then ahead of her a sight she never expected to see, a charred and pitted orb of metal and glass rises out of a shallow crater. Larger than any dreadnaught in the Imperial fleet the craft blots out the sun as M'kira streaks under its hull.Smoke pours from thruster vents as some massive craft lurches into the air. The dull blackened hull gives the craft an menacing appearance, the spires rising from the upper surface glint with faceted crystal panels beginning to glow with a hateful green light.

As M'kira puts distance between herself and the massive ships her sensors scream warning as a surge of exotic particles warn of a Hyperspace rupture forming within Vid in the last year would instantly recognize the ship, Only the renegade AI warship Kronos had the four dagger shaped secondary hulls and massive spherical main hull that suddenly appeared over the two lifting ships.

No sooner than the spots clear from the entry flash a salvo of missiles plasma cannons and mass driver rounds slams into the second of the lifting ships. Kronos' deadly spinal mount cannons fire creating a sonic boom that is deafening even forty kilometers away, triple beams of pure disruptive energy slice through the targets unshielded hull as Kronos reels from the broadside unleashed by the lead orb.

As the burning hulk of the fatally wounded sphere ship crashes back to earth, Kronos and the Surviving ship engage in a point blank gunnery duel as they rise upwards with growing seed. swarms of insectoid fighters launch from the alien ship to duel with Kronos' fighter drones. The visual display lights up the sky well after the two ships are out of sight on the sensors of the Crow Aziza detects first one hyperspace jump then another as one ship attempts to escape into hyperspace.

One message comes in over the ships comm channels in the background a rich baritone voice howls in pure savage joy.“ we have this, you kids can go play….Damn…. Honey, would you just shoot the damn bitch and get us out of here..” the second voice on the comm is female and obviously not happy with someone.

the crew went and recovered the hulk and restored enough systems to manage one good shot from it's spinal mounts..into the ass of  an unsuspecting Q'sa dreadnought which was Happily blowing the crap out of the Dreadnought "Prometheus, and Kronos at teh same time....result is the Q'sa god queen "SHE" too off like a bat out of hell before she could manage to kill Prometheus....his chassis/dreadnought crashed but he lived...which is why SHE wants T'risa dead, dead, oh so frikking dead.

as it is the Dreadnought will be in the yard for years, and T'risa has a small...cough cough stipend from the TAE, and YAU Imperium to pay for them being able to research the ancient tech aboard the ship...and incorporate it into their own systems...

The Valkiir just shrugged, we have some ships we can sell you at a discount...trade you for those nifty alien thigamabons...Technically Balkiir, Elspeth, and Poppy also have a healthy paycheck coming, as does anyone who signs on to the team...

The way the trust is set up is that any crewman on her team gets paid out of the rewward funds...so once you are officialy apart of the team money and goodies are easy to find....stayingg alive whie playing with them is gonna be a Biscotti

That is what I was wondering, can we afford it, maybe if all of us pitch in we might have enough for 1/10 the price of the 600 tonne ship.   I might get some extra funds from Sal the MOOK, but the repayment plan is steep, and Tal really wouldn't recommend money from a loan shark, he/ she would probably want a favor or two for that type of cred.   Just how much money is the cost for one ship share anyway?   Like I said I have 17000 cr. after purchasing all my gear.

Wouldn't an old beat-up old freighter work just as well, that way we can modify it to our heart's content and the enemy wouldn't believe that we were a Q-ship.   Reference to WWII merchant raiders used by the Nazi's.    Aren't we starting this adventure on a shoestring anyway, most of us, if not all have very little funds to purchase a new or used ship, being that we either just mustered out of our various professions and into CASAR's lap, as it were.   What can CASAR give us for this endeavor or are there any other assets that either the Alliance or anyone else can supply for that matter.

So by rights, the cost of a basic bare bones ships is 270,000,000 cr..   Alex, you have three and Kendrick has two shares of ship stock and either elsbeth, Nera or T'risa have 6.54 mega cr., that isn't even enough to buy a laser torpedo as it were.   I knew Alex that my 17k wouldn't go very far, Cain said in a post that he had 60k and that amt. wouldn't even help our predicament.

A lot of the classes have ship shares as muster benefits.

There are a lot of cool add-ons to your weapons or armor you could spend that 17k on. A wafer Jack and some software could give you new skills in a limited way. There's other stuff too.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Nera if you take the 5 ship shares I think that puts us at 30% unless anyone else has ship shares.

Just as an example if we Gazelle Close Escort which is 217,800,000 - 30% puts the new cost at 152,460,000.

Mortgaged from the book at 1/240th of the cash price each month for 480 months puts us at 635,250 Cr a month.

Not sure what the minimum down payment would need to be but subtract that and the monthly would be less obviously.

So the really question is, how much can we expect to bring in monthly and pay the crew and the upkeep of the ship?  Considering were being billed as hero's there isn't much heroism in treasure hunting, merchant shipping, or mercenary work :P

I guess it comes down to how we expect to be getting paid?

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Some thoughts on ship:

I liked the sound of the barque. Is your experience that bigger is better than fast from the previous game?

To make sure the game is fun I think having lots of robots around to do everything diminishes the hero aspect.

Will we pick up a few fighters?

The ship choice directly connects to the skills package.

So I have a few ideas on allocating skills since we seem to be more people than skills and we are not sitting at a table so it's hard to be fair.
1) To each according to need: let the person with fewest sp pick, then next and so on
2) everybody gets 1 - let everyone pick 1 skill if any are not picked offer them out individually.
3) everyone gets 2 - why would I even say that? What a go away.
There are lots of other ways I'm just considering.

If we pick a really big ship with lots of guns and fighters then we can keep everyone engaged by making sure several people can fly and or shoot.

If we go with a smaller ship with less crew then among the players we will need not only a mechanic engineer but also an assistant for dealing with 2 problems or getting bonus from aid another.

Same with sensor operator and gunnery and maybe astrogation or even pilot.

These are all connected. I vote for smaller fast ship unless size is really needed and picking traveler or starship package and make sure we have any fighter/shuttle pilots as well as primary and potential extras for each combat station.s

Mixtzin has: Medic 4, Pilot (Capital Ships) 2, Zero-G 2, Tactics (Military) 2, Comms 0 and Computers 0.  Great medic, OK pilot, and can lead a boarding party.  Otherwise, not much good on a ship.

I'd like a ship with good jump capability (2 or better), very good manoeuvrability, a very good computer (or even 2?), and plentiful hard points with top notch weaponry (even if we have to retro-fit it).  Lots of cryo berths would be better for carrying rescued folk: no life support or food and water, and with a good medic and a hospital/sickbay, little likelihood of death.

We might be able to buy decommissioned weapons to augment/upgrade those with which the ship is originally equipped.

A few spare staterooms would be useful, but not necessarily essential.

Wow Mix you are amazing too!

My best skill is telekineses 3 not always useful in spaceship battles unless you put me in my Cameleon combat armor and have me fly psionically to the enemy ship and telekinetically disable their engines or use machine symbiosis to mess with Thier life support sensors and what not.

I am mainly a stealthy streetwise pistol and energy sword warrior.

On ship I have computer 1, mechanic 1, engineering 0, all science 0, astrogation 0

I have a wafer Jack and get a couple new 1 skills for INT and EDU only for 1k each and can psionically add skill points for a round or three in extremis.

I could be assistant engineer especially with engineering wafers.
I could take pilot and be a fighter guy +2 on Dex ...
Or take gunnery and assist in shooting
or both pilot and gunnery if 2 skills
Or stick with sciences and take something like sensors 1 from the list.

I am glad to let T'risa or anyone give advice for direction to be useful on crew.p

To be honest, I don't have a roundup of your characters skill levels. It might be best for the GM to decide where we'd all best be suited.
T'risa doesn't have any directly applicable starship skills.
Leadership and tactics (naval) and tactics (ground) might be her forte.

Given events of the last game, she'd probably look at the roughest, toughest ship available that has enough cargo capacity to allow storage of mecha and fighters.

Yup sounds like the 600 - So I'm looking forward to the details on the choices.  But would like to assume we can put everything together in one loan - fighters, ships boats, ship, ammo, extras. We know we have 1 solid fighter pilot. A driver - for our ATV, a solid mechanic plus Poppy. More than enough leadership a witch(bridge) a backup pilot senior officer captain comm person. Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

I thought I'd take a moment to explain a few points of interest. I never planned of this to be a typical Traveller campaign, gear, money, moneymaking etc.... were not the primary focus.  You'll have pretty liberal access to all the nice toys. and making money is not a real issue...what ever you have for your character is yours to customize gear, pick up things that the Quartermaster.(poppy) overlooked. Or to use for your own private purposes.
as art of the operation, S'viim and Poppy came up with a standard gear package for players.

In short one of the features o this game is you get to play with all the toys you may never have gotten to play with before. You guys are going to find money and support easy to come by by the typical Traveller scheme.

Ya wanta fighter, Battle dress, phased plasma rifle in the 40 Kilo-watt range...Odds are you can get it..without weeks of game pay, jumping through hoops or dealing with shady loan sharks who will happily repossess your frontal lobe should you miss a payment.

Ship Shares: instead of using them to buy the ship once you have decided on what ship you want I will figure up how much all available ship shares are worth and let you buy upgrades, and extra vehicles/small craft to use on missions. if you don't have a ship share, hold onto your cash, or let me know how much you are giving poppy/S'viim to invest, or use for equipment purchases.

From experience I know that T'risa is not one to say.."no shares..no part in decision making" in effect if I know T'risa all of you are in on the command decision process and will probably be tapped on occasion to take charge of your own little niche in the game...after four years of playing with her I noticed a few trends...

I will assure you if a character spends money oh his own gear I will make sure that that expenditure makes his toys better than standard issue gear...

Such as "Mix" who gets a spiffy set of specially fitted Battle dress for his use, and Alex who has Nephilum manufactured gear when he pays for it...Tal on the other hand can through his contacts secure untraceable off the books hardware..etc...

Cain- you pick any skill you want for connections. Can't boost higher than 3

Tal- JOAT at 3 is awesome - you can do anything -

Wow! Is all I've got to say for the GM. what fun.

So far nobody is a gunner 'cept Tal who can do anything. Pilot small craft could make Tal our second fighter pilot if he wants.

This will certainly help me think through where I want to be.

So on the bridge is Nera who may be the best starship pilot and Comms. T'risa as witch.

In engineering is Lynn

Fighter pilots; Cain, and Tal - if he wants to do that

Boarding party with stealth bonus Kendrick and Alex of course I'm sure we will all do it sometimes.

Medic Mix has skills that can move him anywhere and he can fly capital ships if we ever steal one.

Gunnery: ? Nobody yet.

Bridge crew: Sensors, astrogation, Comms: who's Mr Spock?

Am I understanding? If no one steps into those roles I could support gunnery or mr Spock when not sneaking and boarding.

The ship needs more crew than you currently have so NPC crewmen will fill in when players are not available..they are currently not detailed, but You can ask for details as you wish, recruit better NPCs, or create secondary characters to take over those slots :D

as soon as you guys are ready I will progress the game briefly to allow you to purchase a second ship....this one wil cost the party real credits, not virtual credits earned form the last game series...

By the way your ships shares are worth about 3 million per share in upgrades or auxiliary craft/fighters for the ship.

Are we better off not trying to use a Broker roll on this stuff? I did buy Broker expert software and can emulate broker 1 on my water Jack or use all my psi points and maybe get a strong broker skill for a short time ...

By second ship do you mean fighters and ships boat type things or another main craft?

Are all these weapons Gunnery? Or are some Capitol Weapons?

Can we finalize the package skill selection ?
I think people were leaning toward Starship skill package vs Traveler.
Both have Pilot, Gunnery, Sensors, Comms, Medic
Starship has enginering, mechanic, Astrogation.
Traveler has persuade, gun combat, and stealth.

There are 8 skills in one package and 10 of us.
Do we each just pick one?, or start with greenest person or youngest or whatever let them choose then go person to person until all are gone? Do skills get chosen twice? Or maybe include both packages 11 seperate skills and we each get to take one in some order?
We need final say from GM.

Is it Gunner (Turret) one uses to shoot from a small craft?

Question - Why are we getting a second starship? If we spend our ship shares upgrading this one and buying fighters and whatnot I don't know how we would expect to self finance another ship.

Our Corvette has 100T max capacity hookups for external Fuel pods - we get our stealth ship at 100T with the right hookup and we can fill one of the fighter bays or some of the cargo area with fuel bladders or something.

I'm sure you guys have better resources but if we take a police cutter

I guess if we're going for a second ship we better get busy making some money, I have gambler at 0 but it's still a skill I have, but I do like the idea of a 100t craft.   I like the idea of a runned down freighter, a police cutter, would do just fine, also known as a Q-SHIP, luring in our prey.   All of sudden, instead of one ship, the bad guys have to battle now there is two.   The key word is runned down, the second ship has to look like it is barely hanging together.    Due the fact, that we are going to have to spend our real funds for this ship, it would be ours and not somebody else' toy.

Maybe we could have the second ship in drydock and we use the CASAR ship for now until either we make enough money or we buy the ship from them.

Of course an older ship will be 1d6% cheaper per 10yrs and you roll on that table for effects 3/12 of the rolls are good (:

If we all paid 4k/month it would only cover 1MCr so I think we won't be making enough money to make a mortgage worthwhile just on salary.  We might want to pay outright for the starship a fighter and any other upgrades with our 90+MCr. And that's assuming Nera wants to put all her shares into it.

Pfft, we can always hire local merchants to bring us more ammunition, provide lift capacity if we need it. In the worst case scenario we can always do what we did in the last game, it amounted to us hijacking an arms shipment together with the freighter carrying it to Her forces.

Stealth boat sounds reasonable, although I'd expect it only to work against Tae/Tau forces with stealth. Given our experiences T'risa would go with rugged over stealthy every time, althuogh rugged and stealthy provided cost is not prohibitive would be better

As for improving the ship, we already have some proposals.
Upgrading the sick bay sounds perfect
Upgrading science lab, I'm also good with.
I have matters in hand for upgrading the shipboard computer.
I'd possibly make her quicker, but as our cargo space is limited I'll leave it as is. We need enough room for all of our mecha/low berths/salvage. I'd rather have the space to grow what we need into it.

I'd probably take most of the spare crew slots we need filled as cyberoids but with one or two seasoned vets to oversee them (T'risa has a strong connection to artificial sentients). We make up most of the crew in any case. Not that many spare slots left over.

I'm liking the idea of two armed armored fast stealthy ship's boats better than fighters.

Need more discussion. Of our goals for deciding how to modify the labs. I do have some thoughts on it. But ... Is there something we need to figure out scientifically about HER? Or is it all tactical?
My first question: is she a member of a known race and community or unknown or unique organism? Also does she have organic physical body or something else? As a combined corollary. Are these things we need to figure out. Will there be forensic studies to be done? Etc.

I might not need two labs if it's limited.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Stealth pods could be acquired..you would need to make a short trip to a HUB colony, or Main naval Yard for them though...no problem there ..consider it a test rive.

Cyberoids are standing by, and several organic veterans are interested n a job as well.

SHE, which is the actual name the "Witch queen of the bug-lizards" goes by. is a memebr of an extinct caste of the Q'sa. A high queen which at one time ruled a large portion of Osahdii space.

According to a witness and data files found on the same world as SHE, they are psionic, tech savvy, and instinctive strategists. Up until about 100-50 thousand years ago they were  at war with the O'sahdii and the first wave of humans taken off world and resettled..And for the most part the Queens  are why none of the first wave colonies and races exist today....it was after all a war between to groups equally as powerful, and ten generations ahead of current technology...even the Osahdii lost ground Tech Level wise during the Great war.

What humans know as the Q'sa are survivors of a domestic servant caste of the Original Q'sa, basically their chambermaids., cooks, and garbage collectors.A Q'sa warrior, or warrior queen Q'sa is stronger faster, and smarter than any Q'sa met before...You can ask Elspeth and Balkiir about those..they are the only humans who have fought them face to face in 50,000 years.

So yeah your gonna need labs, fortunately Modern labs are designed  to be multi-functional and compact with nano-machine based manufacturing devices to supply any particular device you need...You can fit a modern CSI lab into a broom closet with he tech available for A Pax universe Ship.

Actually when it comes to scientific, and computer gear the average tech level for common use is around TL 15-17 compared to Typical Imperium standards, AI assist is common, psuedo intelect computers are everywhere..

your frikking kitchen can have it's own personality..it's not sentient but it is a very good imitation of a living personality.Kids have Virtual Intelligent toys, that act as health monitors, and security systems..up to the pint of being armed.

Holographic systems are hi res full color, near perfect...at least in stationary entertainment systems. The field units are monochrome high res, and tend to glitch a bit when shaken or subjected to rough treatment.

So in effect a single lab is fine, TWO labs is great!!! It's the equivalent of a typical hospital, or major city crime lab.

So for the lab all I need to do is define what software (expert systems) I want the AI to run? Do I have a funding limit?

Regarding the Heavily armored weaponized stealth ships boat assault vehicles...that's what you mean by stealth pods? And we can get them?
Let's go ... Maybe I should've asked for more. - oh yeah computer and evasion software upgrades!

Yeah by pod I am referring to the armored assault boats..

the budget for a Lab is about 100k for programs that come with the system...it's covered under the total cost of the lab...which is around  1 MCr...since you have two labs you can tailor one for one set of skills, and the other for a second

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

okay programs wont be a problem and you cna swap them out as needed..the rating of a computer is a measure of how much you have active at once..not whats stored on the drive....which is a lot..you could put the library of congress and the imperial archives on most hard drives.

If you want a mobile assistant, Might  I suggest paying a visit to the Cyberoid Daycare...The fee for sponsoring a cyberoid fresh from the tanks is not that much, and for the next seven years you have a boy/girl Friday...that gets a nice allowance each month...and insurance, and requires it's own little area..which is why they take up 1.5 tons..they need a recharge and "sleeping" berth for the first few years..till they get a full sized room.

Investment for a Basic cyberoid is 50K for a stock standard mechanical frame...just don't let poppy see it she'll cry..and rush the poor thing off to the boutique with YOUR credit card. Then give you a very hard look for not seeing that the youngin' was properly "dressed" for polite society.

Its the same stats as a Drone control unit from Highguard...with varying abilities the same as the TL of the Drone unit..only these fellas have human bodies, and personalities

You and Tal will be having fun over at the entertainment center off and on for the next couple of days. It may take that long to get any real info...but since it's something you can do in your down time it's not going to cause any continuity problems.

as a not eon AI they aren't programmed instead they are created by placing a seed program in a virtual reality sim..and giving them a few million cycles to gather experience and data...at some point they awaken as fully sentient synthetic life forms..or fail to develop sentience...

annnndddddd occasionally one goes batty during the  final stages after they become sentient and is shipped off to the AI version of the funny farm....yeah there's a giant server full of psychopathic AI out there somewhere....hidden in a sealed habitat somewhere unlivable to both synthetics and organics, protected by a small army of non sentient war machines, and  a squadron of AI operated fighters...just hope the AI version of the Joker/Hannibal never escapes.....hmmm well now there  is a scenario I hadn't thought of yet....

I rolled up a Foo for the fun of it. My initial attributes made me think it would be lame. But meet Sol, maybe ze (not sure if Foo have male and female) can be our lawyer. Former navy captain O5 in the core rules and an experienced Broker R6. Ze can come find us anywhere no need for a ship and for an appropriate emergency fee ze can even fix a broken ship.

Be careful Sol is a good lawyer and frequent liar. If there's no need for an NPC maybe I'll make zem my Ally when T'rissa throws me in the brig I can "Just call Sol".

Alex:
[SEP field] What's that?

"An SEP is something we can't see, or don't see, or our brain doesn't let us see, because we think that it's somebody else's problem.... The brain just edits it out, it's like a blind spot. If you look at it directly you won't see it unless you know precisely what it is. Your only hope is to catch it by surprise out of the corner of your eye."

Somebody Else's Problem field, or SEP, is a cheap, easy, and staggeringly useful way of safely protecting something from unwanted eyes. It can run almost indefinitely on a torch (flashlight)/9 volt battery, and is able to do so because it utilises a person's natural tendency to ignore things they don't easily accept, like, for example, aliens at a cricket match. Any object around which an S.E.P. is applied will cease to be noticed, because any problems one may have understanding it (and therefore accepting its existence) become Somebody Else's. An object becomes not so much invisible as unnoticed.

A perfect example of this would be a ship covered in an SEP field at a cricket match. A starship taking the appearance of a large pink elephant is ideal, because you can see it, but because it is so inconceivable, your mind can't accept it. Therefore it can't exist, thus ignoring it comes naturally.

An S.E.P. can work in much the same way in dangerous or uninhabitable environments. Any problem which may present itself to a person inside an S.E.P. (such as not being able to breathe, due to a lack of atmosphere) will become Somebody Else's.

An S.E.P. can be seen if caught by surprise, or out of the corner of one's eye.

Slartibartfast's ship, Bistromath, is covered in an SEP field.

She does have a neural interface but communication is very limited. She will drink and wreak havoc and get around if you want. She may perform to entertain the public or get food. She will never turn down a race, sporting event or contest, Accademic or physical as participant or spectator. It's important to make sure she knows if a contest is meant to be nonlethal before it starts.

Re: OOC: Chat and Silliness welcomed

Some thoughts on M'nKuhl culture. Just ideas to see if GM agrees

M'nKuhl tend to live in specific feeding grounds which are pockets of hyperspace with plentiful flora and fauna. In any given feeding ground the adults spend most of their time away. They explore far reaches of real and hyperspace looking for new potential feeding grounds and allies. This leaves all the food for the young and adolescents. Adults may return durring holidays and the mating run which is a very special, celebratory time when all adults return, they challenge each other to friendly (sometimes unfriendly) competition and tell stories and show signs of their prowess. Adults will seek to mate with equally ranked adults at one run every 2-4 years. Pups will be born one year later.

Females will return to feeding grounds for delivery. Each feeding ground supports several pods made up of matrilineal families. Males mate outside their pod, within the feeding ground. Males identify with Thier pod but also spend time with fathers whenever the father is visiting on holiday. Parents tend to spend more time with same sex offspring although they do check on and visit oposite sex children whenever they can. Mothers will remain with newly born pups a few months at most. Barring congenital malformation there is very little mortality for young M'nKuhl. All adults in a feeding ground will protect all pups and support their education. Mortality occurs in adolescence when young M'nKuhl venture out to explore beyond the safe feeding grounds or experiment with switching to real-space. Adults also suffer high mortality for risk taking behavior in order to increase status. This behavior grows overtime making elderly M'nKuhl some of the riskiest sentient creatures.

Holidays are different for different pods so that adults from two pods will usually not interact except for the mating run. This makes it very difficult for humans to predict when individual M'nKuhl will be coming and going.

Adults on holiday will strictly forbid other adults to be in the feeding ground unless there is dire need of for females to deliver. Any adult returning at the wrong time is likely to be killed for it.

Life events on the life events table can be reinterpreted in light of the culture, in general with no special life event assume a normal mating and birth every term served.

Those ideas are fine, at least for the large region of space this group travels in...since hyperspace is vast and M'n'Kuhl are widely spread traditions and behavior may change as groups form around in different regions.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

a Bit more explanation required I think

A few months ago my mother passed away unexpectedly due to preventable, and predictable causes. Causes that I had  warned my sisters, and brothers about..and causes that had caused a great deal of alienation between my mother and myself in the last couple of years.

Shortly afterward a young lady who was good friends with my girlfriend, and who I was fond of as well.....was murdered by her boyfriend after a breakup...leaving her son an orphan when the bastard shot himself.

these events were aggravated by the financial issues I had been dealing with since nearly loosing my foot and the three months of daily infusions, and wound care that were required to deal with infections after the fact.

over the months as more "stuff" piled on my mood, and my ability to focus on my more enjoyable pastimes has degraded progressively until it his rock bottom when I had go through December..which is my mothers, birthday, and my first Christmas I was not able to at least say hi to mom and catch up on things with her.

I had assumed in the past couple of weeks that I was in a good enough state of mind to return to my more enjoyable pastimes, wit at least enough creativity available to allow me to do a decent jobs at GMing, and storytelling. Unfortunately every time I attempt to do so I stare at a blank screen suffering from complete paralysis of my imagination, creative centers.

as you can tell by my complete absence for quite some time....about the only things I  have been able to focus  on are completely devoid of human interaction, or even the internalized imagined  interactions between people.

Honestly I never realized how much of the same mental, and emotional, wiring was involved with writing out an interaction, rather than actually participating in it.

I am deeply sorry for the delay, and the unfair treatment of my players. But I am going to ask you indulgence  while I deal with the anger, grief, and depression that these events have  left me floundering in. I have a story to tell in the game, and ideas supplied by you players that I really want to see play out..but right now my brain is not cooperating...even writing out this letter has been a major effort and felt like pulling barbwire out through my....ears....

If you chose not to stick around I understand, but if you do..Thank you I will do my best to ensure you are not disappointed.

Re: Merry Christmas, Everyone!

alright ready to restart. I have a small issue to deal with concerning the events I had planned for the evening. But nothing that can't be fixed with some careful GM wizardry.

I have been busy wth the new revision of the rules. We'll be staying with the ones we are currently using.

The new rules are pretty solid, but the first edition of mongoose rules is solid enough for our needs.

The only changes I'll be making are on my side and have to do with how ships are put together..so unless anyone wants to take a course in starshp design 101 I don't see the new revisions impacting the game for you guys.

You will notice is the artwork will be better than MSpaint scribbles I have done before.

During my sabbatical, I have been working on my modeling, and design abilities connected with my seriously delayed book for Mongoose.

So if you see this....You might want to go back and get a bigger ship...It's a Q'sa battleship...and if you remember from the previous storyline...they Q'sa don't like you guys so much.

Yeah its ugly as a mudbrick and looks like it's been through hell, and half of Georgia. But I am pretty happy that I got it to look this good :D :P

Well, Hell. So got news from mongoose today, due to workload and projected scheduling they are not going to be able to do my book....guess how happy I was t hear that.

But, the good news as that using a new licencing agreement, I can now self-publish my material with some support from mongoose.

I am not a happy camper about losing out on a proper publishing contract...but hell, most of the work is already done, and I have art of my own now. So now all I have to do is get the book formatted and laid out properly and I am good to go.

anyone know anybody with experience doing book layouts and publishing software???? I have a 150 page book to put together.

yeah I know the transportation issues, due to a complete failure of the front end of my truck I am a pedestrian right now...

Also, I would like to pick up the pace a little before everyone drops off the map due to lengthy delays...does anyone have issues with that?

my attention hs been diverted a bit due to trying to land two jobs doing art for actual published games...but I am more than willing/able to pick up my pace if you guys  are.

I will allow people to have several so that they can be involved when the story veers off into an area they ae not specialized in.

anyone who wishes to tremain planet-side and begin investigations can do so. the confusion of a planet-wide alert may offer opportunities to gain access to locations and individuals that might not be available during regular situations.

Re: Pacing

The rose can handle several gunners. Each system can be taen over by a single person or linked together so that one gune can fre every weapon on a single target.

Piot 1 means you have about the same skill as an Airforce pilot who has been in the service for a few years.

0 = raw recruit with training
1 = Serviceman with training and a few years service
2 = Senor serviceman with training and limited combat experience
3 = Ace pilot
4 = Baron Von Richthofen tips his hat when you come into the room

with a 4 in sniper you are on par with the best of the best.

Since this is a shipyard, they will always have more ships than pilots anyone who thinks they can handle a fighter could probably find one on the ramp. Paperwork is sure to follow the engagement of course.

Against Kraken the odds of boarding a living techno-organic warship full of crawlers and larvae are slim to none...but the odds of being boarded are very high. they launch swarms of larvae, and other bioweapons in close combat and those critters will attack turrets and antenna, as well as breach airlocks and cargo hatches if they can.

standard drill is to have people suited up and ready for EVA combat anytime Kraken or their brood creatures are suspected.

And as I mentioned if someone wants to stay ground side and poke around while the majority of the population is busy hiding under their beds or grabbing a rifle it might lead to chances that are not available normally.

More ship combat oriented NPCs are available for use if a player desires...

Gunner
Pilot
Ship commander

T'risa is actually very useful in a combat such as this...tactics and leadership are in short supply among commercial crews...which is why The Admiral tapped her to lead the Merchant reserve.

with your psionic voice, you can ignore jamming and electronic warfare when communicating with the other captains as well...and trust me there will be jamming...Teacher can cheat a bit and link you to the other captains in a temporary network.

Fighters are loaded and ready to go

Trust 6 gravitcs/12 with afterburners( one hour fuel for boosters)
they are armed with a single fixed pulse laser.

these are TAU built ships..actually built by K'mahda family so they are designed for use by Tae, and Valkiir as well....you won't have to suck it in to fit inside the cockpit. but leg room is at a premium you might need help to get out afterward :P

as a side note, TAU forces don't rely on fighters in an offensive role they view them as a support element for the main fleet.....so they are usually set up as interceptors..fast, good sensors, and not much armor....and the radios suck..royally you are going to be hearing a lot of static and distortion anytime you use them....

usually they use Psionics to coordinate movement of fighters so the radios are there as a backup...

Re: Pacing

They are well made, and not suicidal. TAU pilots are experts at using speed, precision and agility over firepower and armor. against the normal enemies of the TAU they are ver capable. It's only when they go up against TAE, Or Valkiir fighters they run into trouble.

compared to a run of the mill raider/pirate fighter they are high-end Porches/Lamborghinis with a cannon.and for shooting own and intercepting missiles, torpedoes and boarding craft...and ugly freakish critters from the depths of hyperspace.... they are perfectly suited to the role.

in this case, you have a major advantage most Kraken can't take any damage at all from a starship/fighter grade weapon. they have the equivalent of

0 structure and 0 Hull. if you hit the with your weapon they pop like a big bloody balloon.

in combat, you have a few options

Attack
Evade
Outrun
Pursue

you can designate how much thrust you use for speed, and how much for agility...for every of thrust used for agility you can choose to evade an attack, shoot down a missile.or execute some other maneuver to protect yourself/carrier vessel.

I'll post a list of combat maneuvers and orders you and give/execute asap.

Not as good as a fighter for space combat having fusion gun and lazer best against personnel but way better than battle dress.
It is made to fight battledress infantry with ease and might survive a ship laser with a low roll .

In reply to IooOoo'NackhAa (msg # 367):

sorry, it took so long to get things worked out. I had prepared the background material ahead of time but couldn't find it when I went to go post it..had to  recreate a lot of stuff from scratch.

Your battleframe on the other hand can take down an apache gunship. Those combat frames actually make him slightly more powerful than Elspeth with her battledress and plasma gun. your biggest advantage is that you can fire on anything crawling over the exterior of a ship without actually damaging the ship.

Elspeth  may not have the same heavy weapons but she  can definitely win a fist fight with a Krogan...or two...maybe three if she's feeling rowdy. Now if she hops in an EVA combat pod she can flash fry an entire platoon of Krogan.

However neither of you should Get in front of Kendrick or Alex in their LIGHT starfighters. the average starfighter is roughly as powerful as an M-1 Abrams main battle tank that can hover, duck sideways, and hit Mach3 without straining.

the Audacious Rose is about as powerful as an Aegis Cruiser, loaded with anti-aircraft, and anti-ship missiles....so no playing chicken with corvettes...

Now the real magic happens when Trisa, Lyn and Mister Soleil get involved they can drastically increase combat effectiveness. if they can coordinate they can increase he Audacious Roses to hit score To +4 and her damage to +2 so those little beam lasers  are hitting at +4 and doing 1d6+2 against targets that have 4 points of armor at most.

the missiles will do 2d6 per missile that gets past point defense and  the ship can offload about a dozen of them a round...

And there is the fact that T'risa is a Battlewitch...she can change what she does after the fact to a certain degree due to the fact she is a Precognitive.

What I want people to do it post their actions in narrative form,  If you all agree I can handle the mechanics at my end and you can roll three 2d6 roles and add them to your posts. I'll explain options and rules as I go along

and thanks for the well wishes and sticking around...
