Qutzl reception

As expected a small shuttle arrived at the appointed time. Not a rough commercial shuttle, or a re-purposed military troop carrier This shuttle was obviously an embassy vehicle, with a sleek, well cared for appearance and comfortable seating, and a small wet bar for passengers.

a pilot, and delegate from the Quetzal Embassy were aboard The delegate dressed in a long formal robe and gown which flattered her slim build nicely.  She stepped down from the shuttles ramp, bowed slightly dipping her brightly colored feathers out of deference to the guests.

His Honored self High Commissioner Pipiltin Etzhuanhuanca-Extli-Quantzin,Known to friends and enemies as Blood Glutton, extends warm greetings, and Offers his hospitality for the evening. Make yourself comfortable and,  please enjoy a refreshment while en-route. She stepped aside with an introduction or giving her name. Not uncommon for a personal envoy. Her feathered crest returned to it's former, completely displayed status, and Her skin did  not betray her emotions. There was only a slight change as she adjusted to the cool night air.

Amara arrived dressed in s formal gown. Not her most extravagant piece of clothing of course, but she couldn't wear that any more. Not bullet resistant enough. She wasn't expecting anything to happen, but there were many roads that led to violence and what she was planning to do would shake up the whole system and not necessarily in ways that others would see as good. She chose jewellery with exquisite taste. Ornate and delicate, in general made of platinum with small gemstones. She wore her hair up, with a tiara crowning her head. Platinum with deep sapphires to compliment her skin and sstandout against her hair. Her shoulders covered with her school shawl, the black and purple diamonds of the Skrinsha academy. The only completely incongruous thing was highly polished cooper shield pinned to her bodice, and the plasma pistol holstered at her hip.

"We are all pleased to meet the High Commissioner Pipiltin Etzhuanhuanca-Extli-Quantzin and his staff. Please thank our host for his hospitality and generosity for this evening on our behalf. You do your employer great credit." T'risa gave the delegate a warm and genuine smile.

Balkiir had shown up in full kit, fatigues neatly pressed and spotless. His web gear replaced with tooled leather. His side arm a traditional big bore revolver, and his Heavy blade which matched Elspeths. In addition he wore a poly-carapace breastplate fitted with his medals, and awards. looking lighter, and more for dress wear than his typical gear he Stood adujsting his knee boots as the Emissary spoke, then waited for Elisabeth before he boarded.

He looked a bit more polished than he normally did. He wasn't loaded for bear, but his sidearm and sword were more than enough for the average Valkiir man to deal with anything not in full combat kit.

Nera stepped into the shuttle nodding to Balkiir as she passed.

"Ah, Marshall, you are looking lovely," she said truthfully. Nera was kitted out in her dress uniform, a matte black affair with silver piping and a silver sash. It was tailored to a nearly painful form fit. Her rank adornments and buttons were made of polished silver as well and engraved as lovingly as micro lathes could manage. Her boots were of a black synthetic leather that had been polished to a mirror shine. A constellation of campaign ribbons and medals completed the ensemble, her Star of Terra prominent with its diamond clusters.

A chrome plated pistol hung in a black leather holster opposite a scabbarded saber. She smiled at a glance at the sword.

"Yes trust the TAEN, we can kill you from a light second away and the best way to emphasize that is to carry a weapon that only slightly postdates fire."

Qutzl reception

Alex spent the afternoon looking at formalwear in the tuxedo type rental places and thrift shops near Suri's place. His criteria was to find something the shopkeeper truly believed was amazing that would be wired and have multiple working pockets. That is how he ended up with J-Now's original vintage alexandrite show suit. J-Now was a popular Valkir Teen star from about 40 years ago, before Rajiman became all the rage and long before the stars were going for the whole mystic lawyer church phase. Alex explains to Mr Soleil when he is getting dressed and the cyberoid frowns at the ancient history. It is not so old my friend, and the classics never go out of style. I was a fan of J-Now in my youth. I am recalling the concerts when he wore these kind of suits and my Lady Emily and I would dance all night. I had to have this.

He explains further. You see J-Now was the complete package, singer, dancer, actor even a composer. One tour he was wearing the same suit at every concert. Many were made this is one, collecting item you see? They are being active and painted alexandrite. This is changing color depending on the light based on a purely natural property like the stone.

The active part was the internal wiring which allowed the suit to be controlled to produce LCD effects and images, including holo projection video and 3d sound extending out to enhance the effect of the concert. The whole thing is powered by J-Now's dance moves through piezo patches in all the flexion areas. This particular suit is in perfect shape, and though it doesn't have the Holo-projector, Alex uses the wiring and power and hidden pockets for his own gadgetry.

The suit is broad shouldered and slim at the waist with baggy pants. It looks blood red or dark emerald green when switching from Yellow (sun, fire, incandescent) or blue (flourescent, LED) light. And in the wrinkles and shadows as it moves flashes of the other color come and go. Under the jacket, vest and baggy pants is a yellow dress shirt with brown pin stripes and a ribbon Col Sanders Bow tie. There are frills at the wrist. And zip up flat brown leather boots.

Alex did not wear his pistol, and he looks at the others a little unsure.
I was thinking we were having a party not a battle, should I bring weapons?
He asks the Marshal.

" I prefer to think of it as "Yes I can kill you from a light second out...but your not worth it, so I brought a slightly over engineered sharp stick." Balkir chuckled warmly as he patted his much heavier, and very practical long sword." We take our blades very seriously."

When Alex showed up Balkiir  looked at him with a raised eyebrow. then with  the overly serious and puffed up stance of a Valkiir street girl, he walked around him sizing him up.then without warning broke into a very quick series of dance steps, surprisingly graceful and light for a man his size wearing stripped down combat gear and boots. sliding away with a come  at me bro motion." If you wear that suit, you better be able to dance..or tell one hell of a joke..

Your on a Valkiir world...always bring one or two guns to a party...especially a diplomatic reception....either that or have a dashingly devilish leader, who will charm the feathers off of that old cuss before he knows what hit him."

Yes you are right. The man this suit was made for was the greatest dancer. I will be humbled when dancing in it.
I was not knowing you are also a fan of J-Now. Those Who Came Before have covered the verse in synchronicity.

Alex considers the pistol. He decides to leave it. He does draw out and the long chain that is part of his suit and ensures the 20cm black cylanders on the end is loose at his belt level pocket. It will be sufficient he guesses.

I am hoping for the devilish charm.

" The pistol is for show, the real weapon is the man carrying it." Balkiir agreed, patting his ceremonial pistol. I know his stuff, had to do a report of it in cultural studies. Can't match his moves, or his lyrics, but My grandad was a big fan."

Tal like Alex had spent the afternoon looking for the right tuxedo and a fire arm as well only deciding later after looking on a cane sword.   The tux he bought was of much older vintage than Alex's.   It was of the style an old fictional character, known as James Bond, would wear.   The cane was an added touch for security purposes because while most parties were sublime they could turn ugly in a hurry.   All in all, he felt like an ancient Victorian styled gentleman with cane and all minus the top hat of course.

When he saw Alex in his suit, Tal just shook his head in unbelief and muffled laughter, but when it changed color he just couldn't believe it more and when both he and the big guy did a jig, Tal almost lost it than and there but quickly turned away in silent if not muffled laughter.   The only other piece of accessories that Tal wore were his high tech mirrored glasses.

When the group had arrived at the shuttle and the lady stepped out and to the side.   He kept quiet and let the introductions be voiced as he entered the spacious carrier, he whispered a silent "WOW".   He hadn't been in something this fancy in a long time, not since his tours of duty when he was in the army and his show of heroism got him promoted.   Tal promptly took his seat and definitely kept his hands to himself.

"I have to assume that we'll be as safe as we might be anywhere at the reception, Alex, my problem is I'm legally required to be armed at all times. To be honest, I'm more adept at destroying peoples minds than at wielding a pistol." She looked around the cabin "I'm glad so many have turned out and that you've all chosen to turn out well. Respecting the man who planned this reception would be a wise thing to do. Thank you all for taking the effort to show up in a manner which shows respect for our host."

Having spent the rest of his evening the night before cleaning up his attire making sure everything was neatly pressed, stray threads burned away, he was ready for this dinner party his old friend had invited him too.  It wasn't his first formal dinner, nor would be his last he figured which is why keeping a suit on hand for such occasions was done more out of habit the necessity.

Looking at his gear he considered including a "deterrent" but decided against it since this outing was likely to have a lot of security in place.  He wasn't much for tech or gadgets so he made sure he at least had a communicator handy.

He followed the group as they boarded their ride taking his seat with the rest of them.  Being on his best behavior he politely sat quietly and nodded to T'risa as she thanked them all for their efforts.

In any case I am keeping my accessory as it is so good at holding this chain and the pocket is just right.

Emerging finally from her beloved engine room, Lynn had scrubbed herself free of engine grime and oil and arrived at the reception in a sparkling black dress, cut high up one side and off the opposite shoulder, displaying an impressive amount of cleavage (or an amount of impressive cleavage, depending on your viewpoint). Far from looking low class, the dress was a designer one, and offset by fire opal earrings, necklace, and ring. She wore flats instead of heels, and if she had a weapon in that outfit  she was a magician as well as an engineer.

"Surprisingly, this old thing still fits. Well, it may be a bit tight in places that probably don't need to be pushed up any further, but still..."

She did a little twirl, her blond hair swinging out behind her in a golden halo.

"Any last minute rules I need to know about? Like which fork you use to pick your nose and what is salad and what is just really exotic pets?"

The Emissary smiled and seemed pleased with the turn out, and the general appearance of the guests waiting for transport.

"our kind words are most appreciated Marshal K'mahda. They will reach the ears of his excellency."

"It is indeed considered good form to carry at least a token weapon, or posses a means of self defense."
The Emissary informed anyone listening." A weapon of some importance to yourself, your culture, or of family value is often carried by Members of the Quetzal as a gesture of respect. Both to declare your ability to support those you are close to, and as a show that you are willing to defend all that you hold to be of value."

as a symbol of the willingness and ability to defend and support, a member of the Quetzl who has passed the trials of fitness is presented with a Machotle."
She opened her outer robe slightl to reveal a bladed weapon sheathed on her hip, the short heavv blade angled sharply forward about halfway up it's length and seemed to be designed for chopping or hacking rather than stabbing It's origin as a useful tool, was rather obvious in it's design.

the particular weapon she wore was housed in a cutaway sheath that displayed the obsidian black glasslike material the blade was formed from.

As the group boarded she stood quietly until hearing Lyns comment.

"Ah, I would be happy to assist in matter of etiquette and personal hygiene." She replied smoothly. Then with a slight smile" If in doubt, use only utensils that are smaller than your auditory appendage, and avoid an with sharp edges.

we are well aware that formal receptions are not always attended by those who have training in diplomacy and etiquette. If you wish a steward will be assigned to assist you in your attempts to avoid embarrassing social actions. We do not wish to cause a person discomfort in their first exposure to Quetzl social functions.. "

Nera sat erect in her dress uniform. She had not spent much time with Quetzl before but as a senior flee officer she had spent plenty of times in awkward formal dinners and functions. She kept the barest hint of a smile on her otherwise stern face to give the impression of a serious spacer.

"Is there anything that we should absolutely avoid doing?" She interjected. Spacers tended to have few pretenses, the grueling life aboard ship quickly breaking down any such constructs.

"I don't want to cause any offense by making a social faux paux that is obvious among your people but obscure among my own."

Qutzl reception

Elsbeth stood at ease off to the left side of T'risa, one step back.  On her right was Balkiir.  And as per his suggestion, she was in her dress uniform, completely pressed and looking as though she'd never worn it before.  A select set of campaign and performance service ribbons adorned her breast pocket, though she appeared to decline to wear any actual medals on the uniform.  Her sergeant's chevrons and various ribbon were draped upon her shoulder epaulets.  She wore a dark green beret that carried the symbol of CMC force recon - an emblem only worn by those that had completed that training regimen was capped over her shoulder-length black hair which had been pulled back and primly set into a ponytail.

Her various electronics were still present, the earbud in her left ear, the dataglove on her left forearm, and the stylish glasses with the HUD display that was tied into the rest of the networked suite.  And on her hip sat both her mated Valkiir-style long blade in a handworked leather sheathe and in a holster on her thigh, a sturdy sidearm:  a well-cared for, plasma pistol with customized grips and optics.  Both weapons had seen obvious use, but were in excellent working order.  Thankfully, Mixtzin had given the armed contingent a heads-up concerning the display of weapons at the Embassy function.

She carried herself with precision matching the pace of both the Marshal and the large dark blue, Valkiir man to her right, though kept conspicuously quiet and alert as they made their way to the reception.  The tall Praetorian brunette nodded to the Quetzl Emissary and her offer of assistance, "Thank you, Ma'am."  Her physical weapons were already prominently displayed, but she cast a glance at both Balkiir and then T'risa when the remark about the importance of weapons and protect was made; a slight, crooked smile touching her lips for a moment.  She knew that both the Valkiir marine and the O'meadan Marshal were much more dangerous with respect to their potentially unseen abilities.  And that the prominent weapons that T'risa was displaying were those that were accompanying her; Elsbeth, Balkiir and the rest of her company were the real weapon - much more than anything that she actually physically carried herself.

And so, Elsbeth made sure that she looked the part of a ready, living weapon.  One that could show both initiative and follow orders.  And one that could probably eat on her own - with utensils no larger than her auditory appendages and without too many sharp edges (both the utensil and the user...).

The transport lifted almost silently as the last of the party boarded the pilot mae one low pass and accelerated at high speed across the city. From the air the city did not eem to be a major industrial center at all. neatly laid out streets wide tree lined avenues, and tidy housing areas were all that were visible beyond the starport.

like most modern cities the factories were underground cut into the solid bedrock of the low foothills around the city. In addition the valkiir had a tendency to put utilities, and heavy infrastructure underground as well. Not only did it keep their cities clean and quiet Orbital strikes were less likely to do serious damage to the tunnels, and those tunnels gave the Valkiir a fast, well protected path to deploy their soldiers and militia in case of attack.

only a slight shudder marked the sleek transports transition to supersonic speeds once it crossed out over the bay heading north toward the Quetzl enclave. then  a second shudder as it dropped back to subsonic cruise circling over the heavily forested hills that the Quetzl had chosen as their private enclave.

Stone buildings, and a huge stepped pyramid structure filled the open circle at the center of the small enclave, looking like an archaeological dig more than a city. however a powerful battlecruiser hovering over the landing area  ruined the quaint, low tech, image of the embassy.

the warship bore the insignia of the Quetzl High commission on it's sides, and the pictograms on its nose were those of an Embassy vessel.

When the shuttle arrived at its final destination around the Battlecruiser, all he could think about was, "Wow, look at the size of that thing and we going to probably be going into it pretty quick so be on your best behavior."   And a cold chill of foreboding ran up his spine and it was all he could do to keep from either shaking himself or showing just how much nervous he was.

Nera smiled the non-committal smile that every officer learned early in their careers. It didn't contradict but nor did it agree. There seemed little point in lecturing the other woman on naval architecture when her own comment had only been a passing thought. Also her opinion on Tau ships was most definitely covered by the Official Secrets Act. She was momentarily tempted to point out that causalities were usually higher than you expected when your ships were fragile and over-gunned but the impulse passed.

"I've served alongside Quetzl in the past, they can be ferocious. It will be interesting to see what those they consider diplomatic are like. "

The Ihcuil'tic "It Is Written" is one of our older vessels. We do not usually send our front line warships on Diplomacy missions. It is His excellencies last combat flagship,, he requested it as his embassy when he was elevated to the High Commission." The Emissary replied with a smile. She seemed to pay close attention to Nera's analysis." Our last engagement revealed weaknesses in it's structural design ,reinforcements have been made internally.

Quetzl force direction technology is more responsive...the addition of axial force directors the rotation of the ship is sufficient to bring her batteries into firing position at any significant target."

The transport sat down, and fifteen fully armored Quetzl marines stood in full dress, with armor , weapons, and obsidian visors polished to a high sheen, brilliant feathered capes covering their shoulders, and the Jaguar pictograph on their chest plates. A human woman stood at the head of the group wearing a short linen Kilt, and simple chest rap, she wore no weapons or armor, and did not have the same colorful accouterments.

Elsbeth looked out the shuttle window at the Quetzl battle cruiser.  She ignored the conversation on its potential shortcomings and simple let out a low whistle.  True, it wasn't a dreadnought - and she'd seen a number of those inside and out.  It may be a touch naive to some, but, she found the massive spines to be subtly elegant and exotically alien in their curvature.  The tall Praetorian bumped Balkiir gently with her elbow, motioning with her head to have him join her at the view port as she gawked a bit.

Plus, as an experienced gunner, Elsbeth could appreciate the presence of the inordinate amount of firepower that those spines might bring to any party.

When they docked, Elsbeth resumed her place just behind T'risa as her escort.  She looked at fifteen armoured Quetzl and felt under-dressed for a brief moment.  But it was only a moment.  Like she and Balkiir, the CMC Marine understood that they were primarily for show.  Professionally, she appreciated the display.  Personally, she wondered whether they might get a chance to talk shop.  The lanky brunette cast around for Mixtzin, intending to ask if etiquette might actually allow them to talk freely with the battle-dress adorned guards.

Still, she knew such questions could wait.  The raven-haired marine stood 'at ease', inclining her head slightly to acknowledge the woman with the honor guard.  Her hands clasped behind her back for the moment, Elsbeth stood and waited for T'risa to approach the kilted woman that awaited them.

Tal was impressed with the honor guard and even more impressed when the aide spoke about how each one had won their honors.   He was a little nervous about the hunt participation, though, when Balkiir spoke of the actual hunt.   Even though he was apprehensive about the hunt, if asked for his participation, he wouldn't say no and not do it.

When they formed up rather smartly he was even more impressed, enough to comment on it to no one in particular but loud enough that they all could hear.   "Boy it's some smart honor guard the governor has here, they clearly put all the others I've seen in the past to shame."    When Balkiir continued about the hunt information, Tal wondered why the ancients made the planet so primitive.    Maybe Alex would know why.

Ken sat quietly during the trip keeping to himself.  He cursed himself for forgetting etiquette regarding that Qutzl.  It had been years since he had worked with Bruce and even back then it was all business.  Regardless he felt like an ass for having left his side arm back in his room.  Such was the start of a long evening...

T'risa raised an eyebrow "I think you must be mistaking the purpose of my companions, Miss Dumont. I am only surrounded by friends, not bodyguards." She walked towards the guard commander inclining her head as a token of respect for the Quetzl in charge "An impressive feat, and one that I could never equal. Your courage, bravery and skill marks you and your set as paragons amongst warriors. Perhaps we could take some time to participate in some drills and training with you and your set prior to the beginning of our mission?"

Qutzl reception

Elsbeth stuck close to T'risa, eyeing the Quetzl honor guard with a critical, appraising eye.  Her face showed not disrespect - and actually very little emotion at all, but a simple curt nod to the members of the Three Kills Set was an acknowledgment of one seasoned warrior to another.

The edges of her mouth curled up slightly when Balkiir began to expound on the 'virtues' of the mountain Snow Cats.  She'd seen them along side the Valkiir marine sergeant in the wild.  They'd seen the Fenris Wolves as well.  But only at a distance.  There seemed little reason to get up close and personal with either of the predators; and Elsbeth had never hunted for sport - and didn't intend to start now.

Hanging just to the left of T'risa, the tall Praetorian moved with a light feral precision as she mirrored the Marshal's chosen path.  Despite T'risa assurances that Elsbeth and Balkiir were not her bodyguards, the two of them took her safety very personally.  And it showed in her demeanor and her deference to the Marshal.

She did raise an eyebrow at T'risa's offer to have the group train with the Quetzl honor guard.  It was a gesture born purely of professional curiosity at the possibilities, of course.  Personal curiosity and pride would never intrude on such an activity between highly decorated and competitive groups - despite what the young CMC marine might broadcast as surface thoughts on the matter.  Surface thoughts that were readily available to anyone 'sensitive' enough (and who'd been previously attuned) to read her ... like T'risa.  And Balkiir.  And possibly Alex...

With a bit more conversation the Emissary made a slight gesture toward the embassy and suggested everyone step inside where the environment would be more comfortable. The honor guard moved with precision as she led the group toward a large circular courtyard topped with brightly colored awnings, and banners with the pictograms of dozens of Quetzal clans and orders.

Inside stood several dozen guests of all races and sexes, dressed in garb ranging from the simple, to the gaudy, to the point the clashing colors and frippery was to the point of causing eye strain.

At the far side of the circular courtyard dressed in a Siple all black uniform, with badges of rank at his wrist, and on his collar stood a Singular Quetxl male, his posture that of a man quite used to being in charge, and full of a solid confidence that made him seem more imposing than his already impressive build and battered appearance made him look.

On crest rose as the group entered, the other missing, the ugly scar on the side of his face could only have one source. a close in blast from a plasma weapon. He bore a far more reptilian/saurian look than most Quetzl, hinting that his bloodline was more related tot he Kohl Kuhl race than human. the thick armored ridges of skin rose and shifted color as the Emissary approached the center of the room, and the honor guard moved to the perimeter.

The emissary spoke clearly, with a voice more powerful than the woman's thin build hinted at. She spoke in a series of pops, clicks, and trilling sounds that were the native language of the Quetzl.

She spoke fo several minute, the names of each member of the group followed by a long string of Quetzl.

"My lord, Commander. I present to you, Trisa K'mahda, Matriarch Colonel of the Colonial Marshals,Veteran of war,Her blade is stained with the blood of enemies. Defiant in the face of SHE, Honored Guest, Enemy of Our enemies, and friend of the Oligarchy. She continued without pause through the list of the attending groups then began to speak of the battle of char, and the defeat of the Q'sa and rebel Tau, the destruction of a Q'sa dreadnought, and the capture of prizes of war. The ten-minute presentation was delivered without a single pause, to the point where poppy looked at her with a bit of surprise.being the current record holder for lengthy nonstop monologues.

ALL PAY TRIBUTE!

From the throat of every Quetzl in the room came a bloodcurdling howling screech that echoed off the walls. accompanied by the stamping of feet.

As she spoke six Quetzl clothed only in a few strips of cloth and bearing weapons that looked out of some ancient relic display, fashioned of bone, wood, and obsidian glass, filed into the room, they began ot dance and chant in Quetzl, going through a choreographed display that looked physically demanding, razor-edged weapons swung through ritualized katas advancing ever closer to the guests until the leader was face to face with T'risa at which point he dropped to one knee and offered the straight warclub inset with dozens of curved serrated teeth.

the voice of the emissary comes into your heads. If any of you are skilled in close order drill this would be an appropriate time to display it...it is not expected that you know our ritual...presentation..but to return it in your own way would be diplomatic.
OOC:
anyone with military/dance/martial arts background can execute a common close order drill, your sidearms as a group...if T'risa is willing to coordinate psionically.

No need to go into extreme detail, simply express that you join the display...this is very similar to a Moari Haka, so it's a very polite gesture to show your skill, and not back down from the implied challenge to show your stuff.

and if I missed anyone please let me know and I can add it to the list....

Now I feel bad, my blade is not stained with the blood of enemies. Lynn gave an errant thought but didn't say anything. It was correct anyway, she wasn't much of a fighter. But even in her own head ran the train of flippancy and sarcasm.

She watched the tribute and gave a minuscule shake of her head when the voice asked if any wished to participate. It had been a very long time since she did any kind of displays, and she didn't have any weaponry on her anyway at the moment. Another errant thought started toward her past which she quelled with annoyance. He wasn't going to ruin her evening.

Almost immediately after being introduced, Elsbeth bowed slightly.  Her free hands open to show that she brandished no weapon.

Then with a tight, quick flourish, the Valkiir family blade (whose mate is prominently displayed upon Balkiir's belt) at Elsbeth's side found its way easily into the tall, thin Praetorian's right hand.  She took a simple step back and to the right to fall into line with the burly blue-skinned warrior with her own blade's mate next to her; the two appeared to be able to communicate on a subvocal level that was frighteningly well-synchronized.

Falling efficiently into lock step, her head nodded ever-so slightly to T'risa vocal and mental commands.  Elsbeth needed little to no prompting from the battle witch to crouched into a ritualistic stance, mirroring the stance of Balkiir who had taken up a similar set of positioning along with the others.

It was quite obvious that Elsbeth had both a natural gracefulness as well as training, but there was always something slightly off-putting about her demeanor.  It was a touch difficult to put a finger on, but there's something almost feral in the way that she carried herself; obviously bred to be a warrior, she smiled with a touch too much tooth and her gaze was altogether distant and intensely focused all at once.  She had a thousand yard stare ... and yet could miss the nuances of social niceties sometimes with alarming regularity.

But when it comes to martial drills, the genetically-engineered girl appeared to be all business.  Her long association with both T'risa and Balkiir probably helped.  The psychic connection that the Marshal used to help direct the group seemed to offer no problems for Elsbeth, the barrage of images were readily incorporated into her movements.  That part of the young Praetorian frank's brain had obviously been cultivated and honed through both genetic engineering and hyper-accelerated adolescent teaching methods.

The blade flicked and turned with alarming speed and precision as Elsbeth went through the motions...

T'risa led the group in the dance/kata, herself no real match for the warriors around her. Still she managed to do the others credit by showing off how well the group was coordinated as a whole. Part of the problem was the mental links to new people that she'd not had the opportunity to really know well. The main problem was trying to keep poppy in the link. Her time with the Steel Steeds had taught her how to use telepathy on machine sentiences and live, but it wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination.

The dance proceeded, with each person performing to their best ability. The group managed not to step on anyone's feet, or accidently decapitate one another moving in close quarters with live steel, plasma, and psionic energy drawn. The routine seemed to meet with the approval of the Quetzl who responded with open enthusiasm. By far it was Elspeth who stole the show, her strong clean movements and powerful presence leaving even Balkiir impressed as she ended up nose to nose with the lead Quetzal warrior, their unblinking gaze fixed on one another.

A long moment passed with not a mucle moving, or any shift in thier stance, until..the Quetzls inner eyelid flicked, and his stare dissolved as he stepped back relinquishing the center of the Floor to Elspeth. His feathered frill dipping slightly in respect as the Quetzl applauded and shouted in approval.

The ambassador and the Emissary approached, the powerful built Quetzl admiral smiling warmly as he extended a hand in greeting to T'risa.

T'risa smiled "They say the quality of a person can be determined by the enemies they make. The enemies we have would seem to indicate we are the highest quality sentients in known space." T'risa giggled, hating herself for giggling. "However, our mutual friend is right. I have grown considerably. We all have. Friends old and new alike. The battles in our future will only be won through blood. Diplomacy is not something she understands and the only time she's ready to bargain is when she feels threatened. Elsbeth stood unblinking and unmoving for a long moment after the lead Quetzl had stepped back, yielding the floor.  Her training as a bodyguard had honed her muscle memory to the point where she could hold her position for an uncomfortably long time; she'd entered a sort of fugue state where her perception of time collapsed in on itself.

And with the dance over, and T'risa's mental directions receding into the background, the genetic engineering that had spawn the young Praetorian took over for a moment.  Luckily, the tall blue Valkiir that was Balkiir was a fellow CMC Marine and knew which shoulder and where to tap Elsbeth in order to not provoke an attack from the thin, knife-wielding ex-gladiator turned Marine and then deputized by the Marshal.

"Of course, Friend Balkiir." she intoned as the long, thin Valkiir kindjal found its way back into its sheathe with a flourish.  Both hands free once more, she turned briefly to touch the fingertips of both hands to her forehead and bow in the direction of the Queztl leader and his troupe that had shown such courage and courtesy in their display.

Elsbeth inclined her head to the grand Quetzl emissary when she was formally introduced.  She seemed a touch wide-eyed and tongue-tied, as most who knew her in such social situations knew she was want to do.  Thankfully, the group was offered drinks which she could hide behind.  And equally fortuitous was the fact that the cups were sturdy and made of stone, anything less solid might have been inadvertently shattered by the young Praetorian in a nervous moment.

Her thin fingers drew the cup up her burgundy lips, allowing her to take in the sweet and spicy mixture in its full glory.  She tried to cover the sputter that accompanied the burning sensation the liquid provoked in her throat with a slight clearing of the throat.  Nothing had quite prepared her for the melange of contrasting flavors.  Elsbeth swallowed hard; a light, raspy, "Wow..." escaped from her lips when her voice eventually returned.

She hovered close to both Balkiir (and thus, Poppy), just off the shoulder of T'risa.  She'd didn't expect real trouble to rear its head near the Marshal at this point.  But, old instincts died hard.  And if there was anything that the last three years had taught her, it was that trouble always seemed to swirl around them; the Quetzl commander had been extremely charitable when he declared that the group was a refined form of 'unusual'...

He seemed unaffected by a shot that would have caused an almost immediate, and disorienting rush of adrenaline and endorphins in most Valkiir, and Tau women." Better keep that combination away from the kids, we'd have to drag them out by the heels.

He put a hand on Elspeths shoulder in a familiar gesture to offer some support in a situation he knew was a bit awkward for her.

T'risa remembered her classes on the food and drink of other cultures. She remembered the Quetzl class with some reticence. The O'maeda palate was used to more complex food, the Quetzl one was a direct frontal assault on the senses.

T'risa helped herself to some of the Quetzl food, making sure she tried it. They might not be insulted if she didn't eat any, but it showed them she was willing and open minded enough to try.

A few seconds later the tears started streaming from her eyes. "I think I'll join you in that drink Ambassador, but M'poc for me. Chocolate has...side effects on O'maeda and Valkiir physiologies."

He motioned to a number of bowls containing slices of some fruit deeply colored in shades  of red and yellow. If sampled the burn of the meal is reduced to a mild warmth and the complexity of the spices, meats and vegetables are revealed." Chi,noletl Is excellent at cutting the intensity of some of our more potent dishes. You'll discover that our food has many layers...a bit like politics and  war."

"If you don't mind mixing business and pleasure I am happy you came along, I need the assistance of someone outside of my chain of command, with access to investigative skills, and experience in such matters."

As he spoke he glanced toward Kendrick.alex and Tal..."and if my sources are correct some of your crew have already begun to inquire on the subject."

She surveyed the surroundings, "Food, Music, and  a target  rich environment of pretty, pretty people. Care to join me and take advantage of it  all? They are gonna be talking all night, wasting a perfectly good party."

"besides I need to butter you up and see if you know anything about cybernetic installation... you are about as close to it gets as a medic in my case.  And if you can install a few mods I picked up in town it would be cheaper than the boutique..those guys charge an arm and a leg, and their hands are always cold...brrrrr"

At the mention of food, Tal' stomach did a low rubble because he hadn't ate much the entire day and was rather hungry.   When the exotic drink with the chocolate chaser was brought by the wait staff, he eagerly accepted the drinks for two reasons; one he didn't want to offend the host and two because he had never had M'poc before.   The fact that he wasn't much of a drinker spoke volumes because he downed the chocolate drink first than the M'poc.   The first drink had some of the intended effects over the M'poc but it was both the sharpness of it and the sudden reaction to the Ambassador's statement that Alex and his efforts hadn't been so clandestine in investigating the destroyed ships.   The fact that it, made him sputter a none intelligent noise and look away from the circle of conversation was clearly evident.

Louis came over with Poppy leading him through the servant's entrance. He spent much of his time in the tank getting prepared to be around so many organics. His nose crinkles at the thought Poppy doesn't understand she seems to enjoy bio films and residue. Louis does want to see and be seen by others. His craving for attention and appreciation exceeds his fear that some psionic brain fart will contaminate him.

He wears his flowing wig, high heal shoes and a fine looking blade at his side his antibacterial makeup and gloves emaculately protecting him while looking fabulous.

Louis noticed Alex wearing a Zoot Suit to the event with a frown but during the fight the low baggy pants and whirling tails and tie and high shoulders actually went well with the bright humming energy sword.
He approaches with the servant and hands his teacher a drink while the servant offers the tray to all.

Alex smiles his big welcoming smile when he takes the drink and recognizes Louis.

To the blood glutton.

Business? Of course friend, but before we begin I have one more pleasantly if you will permit?

<Blue>You may know I am a teacher among other things - I have been most fortunate to gain a new charge, this is Louis DeSoleil, he has generously accepted to join us on our journey as scientist focused on the technology and culture of the enemy, that we may develop countermeasures as we go.

Louis bows elaborately and says
Your Excellency, High Commissioner Pipiltin Etzhuanhuanca-Blood-Glutton.  I am Doctor Louis Quatorze Soleil and I am most honored for making your acquaintence on this my second day since leaving my youth and pledging support to this mission. I will endeavor to earn my place among these heroes. I beg that at some moment of convenience this evening you will deign to share with us your tale of earning your name in the Quetzl Ilhuicac-Yaotlahueliloque

Alex is a little surprised and then realizes he shouldn't be as Louis bows and backs just out of the way so the Blood Glutton can choose to continue his discussion or reply to the new chberoid as fits his demeanor.

The Admiral returned  each greeting with a polite bob of his crest and a formal nod. Smiling a bit in The manner of a polite host.

"It seems that Chocolate is by nature a fairly potent narcotic, that For some reason does not affect Tae or Male valkiir...

They are the exception, not the rule. I have heard it leaves  Cesti in a stupor from even a small taste...For generations, the Quetzl have exported it quite readily, mostly as a medicinal resource..with a bit of recreational use intended as well. Fortunately, it is not prone to causing unpleasant dependence in its regular users. It is a shared release from stress for many peoples, So we are happy to supply it."

He replied casually. He turned and motioned for the group to follow him as he spoke leading them toward a small room off to te side of the main reception area. Two Quetzl in full combat armor and armed with modern  infantry plasma weapons stood by the door. They were of a far more reptilian cast than most Quetzl heavy plates of bony armor on their faces and neck. They stood out like draconic gargoyles in a children's library among the brightly dressed party goers.

It is good to meet you all and I would be happy to entertain any questions, or spin any tale you wish when the pressing matters of  duty are addressed.

"I have heard of your crews initial investigation into the disappearance of several ships. I asked a certain Leader of the Street groups to inform me immediately if anyone began to ask questions. She of course, was happy to oblige..as long as she  felt there was no betrayal of confidence.

In this case, she felt we SHOULD be aware of shared points of interest in the matter.
The Admirals voice  was not spoken but relayed telepathically to all by some means. Including a very tight encrypted channel to the internal communications  systems of the Cyberoids.

Valkiir are not the most sophisticated sorts when it comes to matters of dubious legality. However, they are quite adept at putting interested parties in touch with one another when it serves their purposes.

It has come to our attention that some group is funding these operations. A group with no ties in any way to the normal criminal elements common to civilized groups. Even the highly proficient Telepaths and precognitive agents of the Intelligence section have not been able to trace anyone who might be  involved...or have access to the information needed to expertly target key cargoes and personnel. We have stuck a wall of silence in this matter so profound it has caused great concern"

The attack are not sufficient to cause large-scale disruptions to our defensive preparations, but it is taxing our efforts to prepare for the attack many anticipate in the near future.

Feel free to reply without words, my assistant is quite capable or relaying thoughts to me while we are in close proximity...

OOC: the mental voice is cold, absolutely emotionless, and has no inflection, or  emotional seepage. Anyone who is used to such forms of communication has the distinct impression there is no sentient mind involved in its transmission.

the signal to the Cyberoids is also strange.  Usually, the internal communication network is sealed, and autonomous used for relaying diagnostic data during examinations and maintenance.Only a very high-level Administrative AI could access it , break the encryption  and use it as a short range communications system. and that would be an AI with near planetary Access levels and a very specialized set of algorithms the sort that few  outside the cyberoid community would even know exist.

I'm actually rather interested in how your assistant can speak in this manner. It seems somewhat...artificial? I believe you know what our agenda in this area is. I believe we can act in concert for the benefit of all, and a certain flexibility with respect to the legalitites of such things is a benefit. The ambassador continued to discuss purely mundane matters and comment on various points of interest in the city and surrounding area as he communicated telepathically, and electronically.

~ we have determined that the  hostiles are specifically targeting vessels carrying military hardware supplies and personnel bound for neighboring systems. Incoming supplies are not being intercepted only outgoing supplies. Which leads to one inescapable conclusion the enemy as detailed intelligence from a local source."

We have investigated any and all  individuals or systems that have access to that information and taken steps to set up ambushes using fake deliveries with complete documentation filed to indicate the vessel carries vital supplies. These efforts have proven futile. Even loading ships at remote sites with little cover to conceal observers have been ineffective."

It is also disturbing that the vessels and cargo are being destroyed not hijacked, boarded or stolen.Leading to the conclusion that these attacks are not the work of pirates or criminals. They are the work of a hostile force attempting to disrupt our efforts to prepare for the upcoming war."

The ambassador paused to collect his thoughts and address Alex's points.

"we have a working relationship wit various informal networks and criminal groups operating from Hehlvaunfortunately neither technology or organic assets have proven useful. The locals are as mystified as we are"

"I will supply you with introductions to several local sources if you desire, they are receptive to cooperation since this matter directly involves their own safety."

Elsbeth simply stood by the Marshal's side.  She knew what she didn't know; and that was plenty of things.  She also knew that T'risa as was whip-smart.

When the ambassador started to speak to the group via telepathy, the young Praetorian stiffened slightly.  It wasn't that she was unused to the sensation, even if it was a new voice.  No, Elsbeth simply put on alert by the contact.  This was serious business - and unlike the practiced hand of the marshal or the ambassador, the tall Marine wasn't all that great at multi-tasking.  She scanned the crowd warily, fearful of who else might be attempting to eavesdrop.

The warm afterglow of the chocolate likely didn't help.  Elsbeth may not have been O'maedan, but she'd only recently been introduced to the confection never having seen it on Enchoa Rhi and quite liked it.

It had been a full evening in her opinion - an honor guard, an engaging martial display (complete with stare down) and a fully covert business meeting - and dinner hadn't even started...

the 'voice' in you head 'downloads" a batch of names, addresses, and reports of previous investigations. along with a list of houses that are involved with the shipping of wartime supplies.

One of the houses Involved in Shipping is House K'mahda, and the other Is House B'shadn, a subsidiary house of O'maeda, Rhichtor heavy Industries is the TAE concern and House Uhllahr Is the Valkiir main contractor.

All of the companies have lost ships with the O'maaeda subsidiary losing the most ships(ten freighters). only three out of twenty ships lost belonged to independent contractors. RHI has lost only one but they tend to use well-armed merchant cruisers rather than standard commercial freighters.

Valkiir freighters tend to be lightly armed but extremely fast, they have reported being pursued on several occasions but could not identify their attackers due to strong jamming, and local conditions.

"My presence is one of personal interest. I do not have the resources I could command if m presence was one of...Official interest." the second voice was disorienting and alien, words spoke in a language far from Avandii, but using the same sounds. ad somehow understood despite the alien nature of the words.

the room actually seemed to come apart and reform around the group a form revealed to them for the first tie despite the fact the group suddenly realized it had been there the entire time. While the processes of the organic mind would not allow memories of its appearance to remain. The impressions that were allowed to remain were tall, young, female, and warrior.

"I have surrendered many of my own resources to take direct part n the events of this war, I am as limited as any of this group at this moment. The fact my presence was detected by a child should be an indicator of how limited I am in this situation."

I have applied what resources I have to this investigation but I am not capable of thinking in ways that Younger children are. The enemy has not taken direct participation so the....taint of her presence is not present in any I have observed. Unless someone has been tainted by direct touch of the one You know as SHE, I am prohibited from violating their minds to recover information.

as she spoke there was a ripple, and a second painful spike of noise in the minds of the group the discomfort was minor but definite. The form resolved and memory sharpened as the Teacher took form before them.

She stood seven feet ta, and had an unsettling grace to even her slightest movements. For the first time, the group had an image to associate with the name of the race that had played such an important role in the history of their races. at the same time they saw the Osahdiis form they also saw the form of a tall red haired woman in TAE naval uniform taking up the same location. both images were real to the group causing their eyes to water a bit as the Osahdiis natural ability to mask their presence continued to confuse their senses.

The voice of the Teacher burned with irritation and anger as she made that announcement. And it was obvious it was not directed toward Anyone present. " The leadership of the younger races have been notified that The protection of the O'sahdii will be ...Limited to individual actions by ones such as myself."

"It is unfortunate, and irritating. However, the military power of the O'sahdii is engaged in far more serious affairs along our frontiers.

She produced something from behind her back. a map of the galaxy appeared in mid-air with numerous points far outside the human-settled regions highlight. zooming in to show a massive fleet of Osahdii and Nephilum warships massing. Then engaging enemy vessels totally alien to any ships the group had ever seen.

"The time of protected innocence is over. Only Small portions of the Nephilim and O'sahdii, Such as Myself, and Alex have been detached to assist as they can. We have given up much of our resources, and abilities in exchange but we will stand with our younger kin to face this threat."

The Teacher offered the small sphere to T'risa." This database is extremely limited but it details what is known of the ancient enemy you face. It also allows limited communications with myself and the Admiral.

My goal has ever been to provide all the races that cooperate with the tools and technology sufficient to overcome our enemies." T'risa looked down towards the ground with a measure of sadness in her eyes "At one point when I was in contact with SHE, I thought I'd made some ground. A way out of this without bloodshed....and then the moment passed. SHE has gone mad in the pain of loneliness, and cannot any longer fathom other peoples thoughts and desires. We were compelled after the War with the Queens to place all of our resources into reconstructing what was destroyed and Providing for those survivors of the First cycle that had survived. Our predecessors could not aid the Lesser Q'sa as we have Humanity."

After a moment it seemed she had reached a decision." It is very likely that not all races involved will survive this war. That one or more shall perish completely. Allowing extinction is reprehensible to the Osahdii, genocide unthinkable But in this war, the options of preserving the survivors of the losing faction may not be possible. And Humanity must continue, at any and all costs.

We offered a third way to the Queens, and they refused it once...we can not offer such mercy a second time. If the Q'sa must perish to free all races from the queens then it was decided long ago, before we first found humanity.
