"You'll have to catch me first punk!"  He take a moment to lead the knife user on a bit of a chase leading him to a place which matches in some way a connection to his lair, either somewhere with Trees, or somewhere there is a lot of rust, or better yet both.  If he could lead the kid into his Lair he didn't have to worry about the bodies piling up.

As the punk follows him he begin to open the pathway so that with a step they will end up in his Lair, where he can cut loose.  He focuses his mind on the connections of the uneven ground and tripping hazards, and the corrosion all around and using them to connect to the blighted forrest of his nightmare world.  Trying to rip open a doorway there, the universe crackles and the doorway opens drawing both of them into his lair.

The world the knife carrying punk knew vanished as buildings became burn and scared husks of trees the ground seethed and caustic blighted ash filled the air.  Ahead of him the man he was chasing would vanish replaced by something on 4 legs, the size of a grizzly bear white scaled it turns to face him blighted fire hanging about it's vicious toothed maw.  "Abandon all Hope ye who entered here."

Corrosion - 1A damage/turn to all organic living matter other than me or guests with my protection...which he does not include this punk.  The area is seeped with dragon blight like in the old stories where a dragon's presence scars the landscape and is akin to poisonous.
Jagged - The ground is strewn with the burnt husks of trees in what was once a forrest.  Think a Petrified forrest that has been knocked down.  Physical dice rolls to keep a sure footing suffer a –2 dice penalty and apply the Knocked Down Tilt on failure. Stepping back into the real world leaving the boy to dissolve in the dragon blight of his Lair john pats his stomach.  Now that was a feeding.  So much better that time.  He smiles and looks at the sky.  He would head back to campus now, and start looking for clues as to who and what it was that killed Jamie.  When he caught them, there would be hell to pay, and they will burn.

Slipping into the stacks at the library in the folk lore and mythologies section he begins searching for that shadow creature some hint as to what it might be, how it kills, or even just what it's name is.

hes stonewalled, for a bit... then he hits a bit of a breakthrough... you find references albeit in some extremely... fringe sources, to Strix or "Owls" their made of shadows, and are beings of purest most calculating evil... (OOC: Forgot to throw in a equipment bonus from your access to a campus library...)

"Strix?  Interesting, I guess that does match what I saw."  He thinks about it and begins to wonder how he would go about fighting a shadow.  Sadly that was all the information he had.  There was nothing available on how or what they ate, or if they had a weakness or what they were truly made of were they as solid or smoke?

Seems the more questions one gets answered the more has to answer.  So what to do next, how does one follow the trail of a shadow let alone find them?  Where could he find people who would know about the Strix who would believe him, or not think him insane.  Hell who knew about them period?  He guessed he'd start with the history department, see if he could find a professor open to talk.  See if the myth featured in history maybe that would shed some answers.

((I'm assuming any more useful information is held by the Kindred with a paranoid level of security.))

The investigation sadly dead ends pretty much you'll have to find some devoted occult scholars most likely... which could be difficult and a potential give away

John continues about his actions trying to behave exactly like any other person, though he still asks a few questions trying to delve deeper into the mystery of the Stryx.  Looking for any kind of on campus Paranormal research group,  They would likely have access to the specialized information he was seeking if he could find people really invested in the Paranormal not just Ghost Hunter knock offs.  If the person following him was involved in this mystery or worse covering it up they may just reveal themselves telling him to back off or make a move he could use to his advantage but he needed to be sure that he as a hunter was not caught in their web.

After a bit he gets held up one night by a man who jumps him with a knife... "You have been researching the Strix, mortal tell me WHY you look into this issue, it does not involve you" says threateningly, yet even through his hostile demeanour you sense a vague... Kinship with him...

((What does my Family sense tell me?   Just a reminder it's pretty broad and can't tell a strix from a Vampire, and my first encounter was a Strix.))

"Mortal?  Cute you think I'm human, your also rude enough to tell the Drake King of the Sky what his buisness is."  He says coldly.  "And you do it while there are not witnesses. "  He smiles as a curl of fire licks about his face and curls of smoke comes from his nose as his anger builds.

(You can sense something about this being a terrible thirst in it, a drooling for life itself... smelling much like the bird from before, yet his attitude is different somehow. he blinks showing some degree of humanity at least "THe king of the sky what?"

"The dragon king of the sky, and don't presume to tell me what's my business or not, little owl . " He growls firing a warning shot of flame just close enough for him to feel uncomfortable. "I figured one of you Strix wold come after me if I kept making my investigation noisy."  He grins.  "So, tell me what I want to know little owl and I'll spare you."  He looks ready to shoot flames out his mouth for real.  "How many of you are there that hunt around this campus?"

He blinks in, as far as you can tell "I am no strix, I am a vampire" He says "Often times many divinations confuse us and the strix I would have you know"

"So are you saying there is a lot more collateral to damage to get to my target, or less?"  His voice carries a thick tone like someone who steps outside of there care and finds there new shoe planted firmly in the middle of a fresh pile of horse crap.  "Because I'd love to know why vampires care two shits about people digging into Strix if they aren't allies."  Smoke curls from his mouth in a thick bellow as his anger Smulders reminding the vampire that this is very much a fire breathing dragon.

"Some have sought to summon or command the strix, almost always to their detriment, for the owls are clever and sinister... others have sought to make deals with them even pledging themselves to them, And we try to suppress this when we can Vampires hate the strix"

"Oh is that so."  He says seeming to calm down though still smoke curls up from his mouth and nose as a reminder the fire is still going and ready when he wants it.  "So that you hate them as much as I do?"  He starts to relax and smile  "That was information I could have used sooner."  He looks at the vampire.  "What else can you tell me, or do I need to be vetted before you'll let me join you in the hunt for them?"  He says it with the heir of a king asking when everyone will be ready for the boar hunt.
