The old harbour master looks up from his coughing fit as Logan approaches. "Come and join me young fella! We'll drink the night away and try and forget about all these fancy sorts around us. What is your name and what do you do?"

Logan smiles and takes a seat next to Kaltar.  He raises his glass and takes a sip of the rich alcohol.  "Thank you for the welcome."  The young rogue looks around the room, unable to stop from mentally calculating the estimated street value of the jewelry and accessories the various guests are displaying.

With just a few quick grabs, I could live better than I ever have...  Logan turns his attention away from petty larceny back to Keltar, and extends his hand.  "I'm Logan.  I'm, er... Logan stammers, then shrugs, "Well, I'm from Shadowshore," the half-elf whispers.  "I do a great many things, most recently helping sort out this whole mess with Lady Vanderboren."

Logan raises his glass again, half-remembering the disgusting slops and small beer that had been his usual meal at The Skinned Man.  This might be hard to give up...I wonder if I should enjoy it while I can?  He turns back to his new dining companion.  "And I recognize you, Harbormaster Islaran.  How do you know the Vanderborens?"

Keltar chuckles in a friendly way. "You don't need to worry about that, my boy. I know that not everyone in Shadowshore is a thief! I come from the Azure district after all, which is hardly much better!" The old harbourmaster starts coughing again and has to launch another chunk of something into his trusty hankerchief. When the man returns it to his pocket, Logan sees spots of bright red blood on it.



The old man looks confused. "Lady Vanderboren? Oh, you mean Amarilde? She is from the junior branch of the Vanderborens, and isn't a lady! She is just plain old miss, or missus now of course. No, the honor of being Lady Vanderboren lies with Lavinia who gained the title about a month ago... Sad business that. And in my harbor too..." mutters the old sailor. "I've been friends with that family since I was knee high to a grasshopper. They are the first family in the merchant's district and we are the first family in the Azure district, and we were also allies in the Dawn council so it made sense."

As Logan listens to Keltar's explanation on who ranks where in the Vanderboren family, he sees some action over at Alohan's table. The native warrior is now surrounded by three gorgeous young women while the Shadowshore thief sits with Mister 'Cough-up-my-lungs' - Celene (Charisma 18), Amarilde (Charimsa 16) & Rowyn (Charisma 15).

The harbormaster sees the rogue's gaze drawn to the other table. "Ah-ha! Don't worry my boy! No doubt a lady will turn up for you too!"

Just after he speaks, a wizened old Halfling sticks her face up into Logan's line of view, her smile revealing blackened or missing teeth. "Excuse me young master, are you Logan of Shadowshore?"

Keltar bursts into laughter, and action that brings on a new and particularly violent coughing fit.

Logan smiles as Kaltar calls attention to his wandering gaze.  "Sorry about that.  No, it just seems that islander is always up to something interesting.  I never can..."  Suddenly, the halfling looms into Logan's sight, and he jumps up in spite of himself.  "Ah, greetings.  I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage."  He glances over to the harbormaster, silently asking if Kaltar knows the newcomer.  Finally, the half-elf shrugs.  "Yes, I am Logan of Shadowshore."  He turns, pointedly ignoring Kaltar's reaction to focus on the halfling.

"I am Kora Whistlegap, head of Lady Vanderboren's household. She bid me to give you this letter." The old Halfling hands over a sealed message, which Logan opens and reads.

Dear Logan of Shadowshore,

My name is Lavinia Vanderboren and I am the cousin of Amarilde who is getting married this very evening. I hear that she owes the success of her wedding to you and your companions, and that you helped her overcome some problems with Mister Vark. I have been having some comparable issues that I think you could help with. Could you meet with me at my estate on in the Merchant's District at eight o'clock tomorrow morning? I think I can present you with an opportunity uniquely suited to your skills. Please inform my servant, Kora, of your response to my invitation.

I hope to be speaking with you soon.

Lavinia Vanderboren

Logan reads the letter, trying hard to keep his growing excitement to himself.  This was it, the rogue thought to himself, I've opened whole new connections!  I can make some decent money now, enough to get Tessara and me out of Shadowshore for good!  Still working on maintaining a straight face, Logan turned his gaze downwards toward Lady Vanderboren's servant.  What's the best way to handle this?  I wish I knew more about nobility.  Logan gave a mental shake and tried to bow while still seated, suddenly aware he probably looked ridiculous.  Am I even supposed to bow to a servant?

Straightening up, Logan risked a quick glance to Kaltar, trying to judge by the harbormaster's reaction how badly he had erred.  He said in an even, measured tone, trying to exude more confidence than he felt: "Tell your Lady that I would be delighted to help.  I will be there tomorrow."

When the halfling left, Logan turned back to his dining associate.  "So how badly did I screw that up?"

Kaskus is eyeing him strangely. "If even one of my lads had your...well, never mind..." he mutters.

"No at all my boy. Maybe you can take the Shadowshore out of the boy after all, eh? I wish you luck. Now if you'll be excusing me, I am not feeling well and I am off home..."

The old harbour master stands with a sigh, and wobbles off towards the exit.

Logan bids farewell to the harbormaster and cranes his head around, seeing if his companions are still engaged in discussion.

Alohan has left with the cute red head. Angati and Celene are likewise also preparing to depart. The three of them agree to meet outside the Vanderboren mansion at a quarter to eight the next morning.
