Logan blinks and vanishes from sight, the Rhagodessas in front of him giving another cry of anguish.  Seconds later, the rogue appears behind one of the creatures, flanking it with Alohan, his weapons already slick with the ichor of the massive bug.

Holy shit, 19 points?! You are such a cheater!! :P

The rhagodessa goes down in a whirl of blades, its anguished chittering seemingly a cry of frustration at the munchkin-ish of its death.

The remaining bug is as-yet uninjured.

Kibeti attacks, clawing the manta ray again and again, tearing into the enemy's flesh. Kassius meanwhile fires a pair of arrows at the same foe, managing to time the first shot for when the manta rises above the water to attack.

Re: The Caverns

Kassius makes an impressive shot, releasing his first arrow at exactely the right time and squewering the devil-ray through the middle. It floats in the water lifelessly.

Kibeti bounds through the water and starts his fish dinner - the other devil-ray is dead within seconds

OOC: Yes, the 11 was still a miss but it doesn't matter!

Still to go this round: Angati (although she now has no opponents nearby) and Alohan.

The old woman had to choose either try to go help with the Ragodesha or fight in the water against the ray that was still alive. Seeing that the ray was closer, she opted for this last path, the images of Celene killed by the ray still flashing through her eyes, as well as the fear from drowning in that vast kelp sea.

Swinging her morning star with all her might on the ray's back, she saw with certain pride as the thick pointy ends of the morningstar bite on the manta's hide.

The last rhagodessa is the one that was attacking Alohan and it keeps focused on its target. It attacks with its pedipalps and hits with both again. Re: The Caverns

And now for the reward!

The party move into the next chamber, and while although this one is also natural, it is bigger. Every inch of the walls, floor and ceiling is covered in a thick layer of grey paste of various levels of stickiness - a bit like what 'paper wasps' use to make their nests. In one corner of the room is a cluster of small eggs - about half a dozen - some of them gently undulating to the movements of the rhagodessa young inside them.

Although it is distasteful the party search as best they can, and besides the eggs, they find some good L00T:

- stuck to a wall with a sticky paste is the skeleton of what looks to be a Halfling. The poor creature's leather armour is rotted and his rapier rusted to ruin, but he still wears a gold ring (500 gp) on one and a silver ring on the other. Not to mention a nice shinny brooch with a green stone set in it.

The ring is identified as a ring of jumping and the other jewellery is a brooch of shielding capable of absorbing 42 more points of damage from magic missiles.

Who wants the magic stuff? Celene says she wants the brooch.

Angati sighed checking the halfling "Poor dude... not a good way to pass along". As the images of Celene's death and her own passed through her head yet again she added "But then... which one is ?... Oh well" she added suddenly not caring about the halfling any more.

"I think we should check that other side and really clean all this up... need to rest some ?" Then suddenly attired by the eggs she went over to check them carefully.

[Private to GM: I am still missing my familiar... I think I'd go for a bat or a raven (or Thrush) (I like that they talk). Other option if we are going to go for initiatives would be to have something like centipede that gives bonus to init....

Still, the place is great to have something born of one of those eggs that attaches to Angati... I don't know what it could be though :)

OOC: That would be a little baby rhagodessa that is coming out of one of those eggs :D

Actually, I would be fine with you taking one of those as a familiar - we'll just find a similar familiar and use its stats. In oD&D, rhagodessa were great climbers and sneaky. In the rebooted Pathfinder version they are great at grappling. Would a monkey or a crab be good familiar stats to use?

Re: The Caverns

When Alohan regained his composure, he found himself staring at the clobbered rhagodessa carcasses in admiration of his own physical abilities. He had grown stronger -faster. Days before, one of these creatures had almost ended his story but now he was beating up on three -albeit smaller- specimens. It encouraged him -urged him forward. He wanted to see this come to it's conclusion and didn't mind breaking skulls to get there.

Once the ring and brooch had been identified, Alohan made a move to pick off the dead halfling. "I be dinking dis be of importance..." he muttered. He turned to his companions and held it up. "I be keepin?"

"What be left ta see?" he asked the rest, eager to get topside.
Items: I would like the ring of jumping but would also defer to Logan if he would like it as well. My reasoning is I could start using it to set up flanks for Logan (but he could argue the same points). Plus it might be more appropriate for a thief anyways.
Note: Rhagodessa familiar sounds bad ass -do it Angati!

Re: The Caverns

Once they have finished up in the rhagodessa lair (feel free to back post what you do in there) the party continues through the last rooms of the Dragon Lotus guildhall.

They find the barracks room, now bearing the remains of a hasty departure, with bedsheets and personal belongings left strewn over the dozen bunk beds. Angati notices with concern that all of the sheets are spotted with mildew - if she's going to make this her lair she'll have to sort out the dampness problem.

There is the 'rum room', which true to its name is stocked with numerous barrels of the cheap dark spirit. Logan notices that the door to it is not locked - presumably there wouldn't be much point locking it in a dungeon full of thieves - so there must have been another system to ensure that the Dragon Lotus guildsman didn't overindulge.

FYI - those found drunk on duty were fed to Cruncher.

The visitor's quarters are unremarkable except for what Celene finds wedged between the bed and the wall - several pages of paper folded up with line after line of the following written on them:

eye / choker / aboleth / ettin / beholder / render / spider
eye / choker / aboleth / ettin / beholder / spider / render
eye / choker / aboleth / ettin / render / beholder / spider
eye / choker / aboleth / ettin / spider / render / render
eye / choker / aboleth / spider / beholder / render / ettin

Each line has been crossed out, the early lines tidily and the later lines with an angry scribble.

Then they reach the place labelled 'secret harbour'.

The sound of lapping waves fills the chamber, which is a natural sea cave that incorporates a large sloshing tidepool. The beach on the south, where the party enters, is made of large, coarse pebbles and runs smoothly down into the water - the bottom here is clear and sandy with none of the thick seaweed and sea urchins that made the last sea cave so dangerous.

To the north is a thin strip of beach which seethes with brightly-coloured crabs, tapering into an illusionary wall like they had seen in 'The Cauldron'. From this side they can see through it into the open harbour beyond - it looks like the cave mouth exits under a pier (this is the pier under the 'Shivering Cat' tavern, location no 16 in Sunrise district in case anyone cares).

There is a short wooden jetty protruding from the beach into the sea cavern, and at the end of this is a simple barge loaded with crates. Kassius' heart leaps as he recognises the contents... the psychedelic colored hypnotoads... the chameleon-like brass mountain snakes... he has finally found the animal contents of the Blue Nixie that he saw two days ago. Everything he needs to realise his dream of starting a dangerous critter ranch!

OOC: Seriously dude, did you never see Jurassic Park? It will all end in tears.

As they step out onto the beach from the corridor, a figure appears on the jetty. I say 'appears', because he literally shimmers into view. He is a man dressed in the leather armour of a Lotus Dragon, but with seaweed in his hair.

"We're ou' pay?" he asks in a peculiarly accented form of the common tongue. "End of month. You give gems," he adds firmly. Angati notices that his words don't line up with his lip movements correctly.

Kibeti whines and nuzzles Kassius, drawing the hunter's attention to the bottom of the sandy sea floor in front of them. Although they have tried to disguise themselves into the coarse yellow sand, they are still visible in a few spots... There are about a dozen devil-rays lying just under the bottom of the tide pool.

Re: The Caverns

Kassius smiles at having successfully located his quarry after so long. He wonders what the Lotus Dragon's plans were for these creatures. Presumably, something less than legal, but otherwise similar to his own plans but darker? Or something even more nefarious?

In any case, those plans are clearly foiled now, and the more urgent issue is some creature demanding to be paid in gems. Clearly, the thieves had some arrangement with some of the local creatures whereby they were given free passage in return for jewels. Looking over at the others he whispers,

"I doubt they know, or care, that we aren't the Lotus Dragons, so long as they get their regular payment. We have enough from what we get from Rowyn, we could pay them easily enough and save ourselves another nasty underwater fight."

Re: The Caverns

Angati shrugged "Let us learn the terms of the contract before accepting blindly... perhaps we can renegotiate".

With that, she cast enhanced diplomacy on herself and Celene and took a step to answer the apparition "Dear sir, please do remind me of the terms of the accord"

She waited to say anything about them not being part of the Lotus Dragon to have a bit more information for negotiating in case that's what it took.

OOC: I am not sure on the Rhaghodessa. I really don't want climbing or grappling myself. What do you mean taking the stats of crab or monkey ? Would it loose the tremor sense or dark vision and grab attack ? because those are the good things that go for it not really the bonus to the skill... otherwise, from what I am reading, it will get to be as big as a horse, and scary as shit... frankly that for a familiar to take into town... its going to be a bit difficult to handle. The good thing on the monkey is the ability to use his hands and hand me things... but I frankly don't see a horse sized rhaghodessa handling me a wand when it grows.

Still, it is a good memento of this adventure and might be fun.

You did find enough gems in Rowyn's treasury to pay, if you want to. It would be about 1,000 gp in gems.

The figure on the dock makes a bizarre gargling noise in the back of its throat the sound in no reflected by any movement from its mouth. An indication of displeasure? Confusion? Amusement? Just clearing its throat? It is hard to tell, but one thing is for sure, it is not a noise an air breather could make.

"We make holes in ships. We make holes like deal. You pay. YOU PAY NOW!" The final sentence is loud, and it is disturbing how the figure does not move an inch, the seaweed in its hair staying plastered in place on one side of its head. In any case, it seems he is not grasping the fact that there might be more than one group of landlubbers in the caves.

Angati:

No rolls made. He wants the payment and there is such a big cultural and language barrier (well you are talking to a fish, Beni) that you're not going to be able to persuade him otherwise.

Pay or fight.

That is a majority vote for paying them off then. I think it is a good decision since the party has almost no way of fighting these guys other than just wading/swimming into the tide pool and bashing them. Considering your manoeuvrability in aquatic terrain, the fact that you are out-numbered, they have a poisonous attack and at least one spell caster... well, let's just say that I think things would get ugly.

The module remains silent on how the author expects a low level party to succeed in a combat like this, although it does provide a nifty artist's impression of what the combat might look like.

The figure on the wharf gargles. He is definitely scoffing at you. "Only prince of savage tides tells us when come and go... but he has sent a sign that we should move on. This is.. deal."

At the apparition's instruction, Angati takes a fist full of the semi precious gemstones they took from Rowyn's rooms and casts them into the water. One of the hidden devil-rays wriggles out from under the sand at the bottom of the pool and scoops the stones up in its mouth. Then all of the ixitxachitl move in a flurry that stirs up enough sand to cloud the bottom for several minutes. When the sand clears... they are gone.

With that, the party realises that they are now alone in the dungeon.

WELL DONE. YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE FIRST MODULE IN THE SAVAGE TIDE ADVENTURE PATH.

JUST ELEVEN TO GO...
