1.5D - WotW - Part Two: Quarantine of Steel

The first door that Vorsh opens merely leads to a small 20'x20' entre that is thick with the stench of stale air and sewage, but then the Holy Liberator leads them straight ahead through another set of double doors into a large high ceilinged room. This room has a long table at the far end with a dozen chairs around it, and stairs leading down in the centre. There is an architecturally impressive semi-circular hole in the room which allows a view down to the basement below - although it is now more scary than impressive since the hand rails have rotten away meaning this it would be all to easy to fall 10' into the cellar.

"I added the table and chairs myself," says Vorsh. "The previous occupants took everything that wasn't nailed down when they were evicted." The room smells like piss and old sweat. Clearly many people had been living here for some time.

The party spread out and take in the sights. The basement is large but almost empty except a for a few pews stashed at the southern end. The central room on the ground floor actually has another room curved around it - and at the northern end of this is a gigantic bronze gong. Apparently this was just too big to steal.



Vorsh explains the plan. "I have used a powerful magical item (Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments) to turn this place into a cunning trap. When I flick a switch behind the central chair, where I will be sitting, all three of the doors out of the central room AND the door leading out from the entre will be locked. Then a split second later an iron portcullis will drop down behind them - obviously on the other side of the doors so Kogoloxen can't get at them. Then we release the rust monster and join in with the general carnage."

Barred Wooden Doors: 2" thich, Hardness 5, hp 20, break DC25
Iron Portcullis: 2" thick, Hardness 10, hp 60, Break DC 28, Lift DC 25
Gong: Anyone within 20' of the gong when it is struck must make a DC15 fort save of be deafened for 2d6 rounds.
Climbing up to the outer ring: The stone walls of this building are very smooth. Attempting the 10' climb up from the centre room up to the outer ring is a DC20 climb check.

OOC. So what is your plan for the coming four way battle? It will be the party plus Vorsh (and Kelthach) vs the Cabanites vs the Revolutionary Guard vs Kogoloxen.

I need to know you initial positions and also where the rust monster is going to start.

OOC: I am not sure, all the parties will be entering from the south door right ?, it is the only entrance into the building ?. Angati would check on that basement drop and search there before, to make sure there are no other entrances.

Kartach, I don't know where he may be, to witness ? or maybe he can make a scrying spell on Vorsh and that might be easier... ?

If all the parties are to enter, I would block the two lateral doors on the square room to the south, before the fight, so that people entering just have to come into the middle room.

We would all stay below, and hidden, when hells break loose, with a few ladders to climb up in a hurry several at a time, and not one by one.

Release the rust monster... maybe the one controlling needs to be up the room in order to command it.. maybe not ? I don't know.

After a while, climb up finish up.

A variation of this might be staying behind one of those doors to the central room. But... if people go down to avoid the carnage up.. we wouldn't be able to see them or finish them.

OOC: There's going to be a lot of activity in that little room.  I mean, if this is all the Cabanites and the Revolutionary Guard, that's 12 medium creatures, plus the large rust monster.  There's 100 spots to stand in that room, and just our enemies are going to be taking up roughly a fifth of them.

Speaking of that...if a mutual foe is flanking an enemy with Logan, does he get sneak attack damage?  Like if it's Logan - Cabanite - Revolutionary Guard, does Logan get a sneak attack versus the Cabanite?

I think my general plan is to outfit Logan with weapons I don't mind losing to Kogoloxon, which means leaving the enchanted rapier someplace safe.  Get another rapier (probably can't afford a MW one.)  Then we need to be on the main floor to stop the other weapons from battering down the doors and escaping Kogoloxon, or at least allowing the monster to be able to get past the iron bars itself.

Logan's fine with starting out by Vorsh at the back of the room.  Where are we hiding Kogoloxon?  In the basement?

OOC: The thing with them seeing you Logan, is that they will be able to charm you or control you. I think its better to remain hidden. Another option is invisible, if we invest in some invisibility scrolls. But I think, down while controlling krogloxon and then make him go up. while remaining hidden, later going up seems safest.

As for them being inconvenienced because of the little space, it really worries me not. None of us have wide area affecting spells like fireballs that we should be too mindful of that, and I'd rather they were, which is what will happen in a small room... I don't know, I think it favours us.

I think Celene would be best hidden somewhere near the gong ready to cast without incident from above. Is this all happening the same day as the bath house?

He is way too low level to scry, you'll have to invite him a long. Don't worry, he is only a C list NPC so no biggie if your good intentions get him killed off.

Ladders? There is a big staircase leading down to the cellar from the main room. It is just that there is ALSO a hole to the north of the staircase with an open drop.

Yes, Celene needs 'Speak with Animals' to be cast and also within earshot to give commands. Kogoloxen may listen to his new friend.

Yes, same day. That first encounter was designed to suck up some of the spells that you and Angati have so this battle will be a little different from the typical 'sleep' and 'cause fear' combats we have been seeing :P

I'm not sure that would work. There's two problems:
1. Speak with animals is a ranger/druid/bard spell only, and it's personal range. So Kassius could cast it on himself, but Celene would need a UMD check to activate it.
2. Rust Monster's are aberrations, not animals.

Just charming it should help somewhat. At the very least, it won't attack Celene...?



In terms of general strategy, I assume we're trying to avoid killing the innocent wielders of the weapons, yes? Logan, maybe you should pick up a Sap instead of a rapier, so you can deal non-lethal damage?

I'll probably be best positioned in the balcony. My bow should be safe enough from Kogoloxen, and I can fire more blunt arrows to do non-lethal damage.

Yeah, a sap probably works well for a primary weapon.  Plus, it's made of something non-ferrous, so wouldn't attract the rust monster.  And it's cheap!

Yeah, I've got a +1 Chain Shirt.  Definitely wouldn't want to lose that.  Mage Armor would give me almost equivalent AC.

Also have a wand of magic missile to use after giving commands (suggestions) with a move action. I assume we'll want to take out/incapacitate the leaders first. If they only have enough humans to wield the weapons there is potential they will end up wasting actions by switching to the most powerful weapon if it is unused on the ground.

I also still have one use of grease left maybe we can get one of them dropped right off and have the monster take it out quickly say Czarine?

Celene I am not sure about the gong... aren't we blocking all those doors ?.

I mean doors E F A and C would be blocked from the get go.

I still haven't heard any good reason for not blocking them right from the start... there is a door, and a portcullis, so pretty damn hard to get by.

I do not think we should stand in different places each of us without seeing each other.

Really whatever you guys think, I think its best if we all stick in one place.

There's actually an archway connecting the north wall in the inner room to the outer ring room - I marked this in white on the maps above but took it off this version. I'll add it back next time I update the map. Someone could climb the wall and go through the archway, or just use a missile weapon from below to hit the gong.

Celene is a huge liability to stand in that room with her low AC and CMD. She needs to be behind the archway. Being able to command, hopefully, the rust monster and fire off magic missiles gives her a means to attack without taking many attacks in return.

Our biggest problem is going to be the weapons wanting to clamber through the archway as the rust monster will probably be confined to the lower level. We almost need to screen them from even making climb checks. Coat the walls in oil maybe to make the DC's higher?

Updated map now showing archway and doors that will be blocked.

OOC: Is the climb up the archway now greased?

While they are planning the ambush there is a hammer at the outer door. When they open it they see the ranger and her team standing there with a large cart behind them. There's something on the cart, something big but it is covered by a dark tarpaulin and they can't see what is underneath.

But, surprise surprise, the ranger's team consists of Kassius, Kibeti, Alohan and Remmi!

OOC: Okay, you guys are now official on board as well. I'm ready to receive your placements.

"Aloha!" the Nuari prince shouted cheerfully. He hadn't seen his friends in quite some time and was quite glad to see them. Angati -now in significantly less metal armor- was looking younger, Celene was still her beautiful self but... different, and Logan looked ever the scoundrel. Little did he know he was walking into a battle royal between intelligent swords and their retinue. Even if he did, he wouldn't care. It was with his companions!

"What we be doin' today?" he asked nonchalantly, waltzing into the decrepit building. It didn't take him long to see -and deduce- what was about to transpire. "Ahhh..." he stammered with forbearance, "de day be just beginning."
Plan: I have no idea where I'd be- I was thinking I could be in the mix with Kogoloxen and maybe be the one with the 'tongues' spell cast on him. This would let me communicate with the beast and perhaps coordinate with him. I mean, I know we wrestled in the mud but maybe he has some new profound respect for me and would listen? You know, Alpha Male stuff. Regardless, place me where appropriate.

And I say we include Penny in this debacle! She owes me for that schlacking I gave her out on the road!

This is a tough one! But I can help with the second point at least. By DM ruling, 'speak with animals' DOES allow you to speak with aberrations, if they are ones found 'naturally' in the wild i.e. rust monsters. I am making this ruling as there is no other way to communicate with these creatures otherwise. 'Tongues' won't work because that also only works on intelligent creatuers. A 'circlet of speaking' also only works on animals.

Please note, charm spells only make the target friendly to the spellcaster, not the whole party so it is important that the caster remains close to Kogoloxen in order to guide him to attack the right targets. And guiding is obviously easier if the caster can speak to the rust monster. Otherwise the caster is stuck with pantomiming (which is a bit cerebral for Kogoloxen) or just physically pushing the beast away from their friends.

The two most promising options for allowing Celene to communicate with him are:
1) Speak with animals: this spell only has a personal range, so Celene needs to use it, but it is a druid spell (level one) so that means a UMD check. But Celene isn't trained in UMD and this skill can't be used untrained. So no go.

2) Tongues: this spell is a 3rd level sorceress spell. So this could work. But it only allows communication with intelligent creatures that actually have a language. So this is a no go.

Tongues isn't going to work anyway (see above), but I'll stick you in the basement. Celene should be done there to try and guide the rust monster and you can watch her back. I guess the plan is release the beast and then run like heck! And make sure you're not holding anything metal.

Sounds like a plan. I was thinking on staying below and going up with the monster at the last minute. I think that if they see any of us before the whole trap is set, they might be left outside.

AS long as we are all in sight of each other, I think its good.

You know there shouldn't be anyone coming up the stairs, right? The doors at the bottom are all blocked and the only access will be the archway.


I'm not sure I realized that, but it's not a bad idea to have him up in case they manage to break down the doors/climb or fly up some other way. Good to have a strong melee with us ranged attackers, and if the situation gets messy downstairs, he can always jump down.

Kogoloxen is taken down into the basement and under the watchful eye of the rest of the part Celene attempts the 'charm monster' on him.

OOC: Need to do this now since if it fails then the placements are going to be very different. Duration of the spell is one day so casting it now is fine.

First of all Celene needs a DC8 (casting level + 1) caster level check to use the scroll since summon monster is a 4th level spell (and a wizard would need to be a minimum of 7th level to make the scroll). If she fails, she may choose to use her daily MF.

Then I will roll for Kogoloxen save - and use MF if required.

Over to you Celene!

Not sure what her DC is, but 18 is surely a pass.

Angati makes a clucking noise and shakes her head. Reality is altered.

Fail! But his MF is used up.

The look on Kogoloxen's face changes and then he is looking up at Celene like a little puppy dog. He tries to jump up and lick Celene's face.

Awwww!

OK, placements tonight. I'll choose if people haven't been specific. Celene, where do you want yourself and Kogoloxen to be in the basement?

12R? On the top level? But you won't have line of sight to anything? And you need to be downstairs to steer the freak in the right direction. Sorry, but I am sticking you down there.

The party work quickly to prepare the ambush and have only just finished when there is another hammering at the door. The first part have arrive, the Cabanites, led by Czarine Valora, stomp into the room.

The pompous jewelled rapier is welded by the ranger Tolin Kientai, a look of despair on this face. Next is the bewitching Liamae with the empty hilt which the party has learnt is the invisible Princessa Cathandra of the Unseen Edge. The Karameikan sorceress is near to tears. The druid dwarf Kaskus wields nothing but a rod - but Lavinia's notes has taught them that this can change into a gigantic flail Contessa Invicta. The dwarf is downcast and doesn't take his eyes from the floor. There is one additional sword (Lady Akanara) and three dark daggers (Dutchessa Thaluna, Fhalu and Asidra Ja) welded by black garbed men that the party don't know.

A few minutes late the Revolutionary League enter. They are led by the Solo Hand and with dismay the party see the welder. It is Soren Toregson, one of the most renowned champions of the arena and Amarilde Vanderboren's new husband. The gladiator positively seethes to the point of foam forming at the corner's of his mouth but he take his place at the table as command.



Sabrehawk is still welded by Zan, the rogue just mutters under his breath and shakes his head as he sits down in one of the chairs. There are two more swords on that side, Triage and Hoardcutter, both welded by strangers.

Before they even take their seats the two sides are at each other's throats, but Vorsh tries to calm them down - possibly so they will lower their guards.

Vorsh curses at them. Snarls. And then flicks the switch.

I didn't notice the coordinates on the bottom level and then also messed up my top coordinates. I had meant what would be 5:J on the bottom level. Since I thought it might be easy for someone to see the monster where it right adjacent to the stairs. My fault for the misunderstanding.

Will the plan be to head after the Cabanites first? Their numbers seem greater than the others.

FYI, Celene only has basic control over Kogoloxen - she starts him off and then he goes after the closest metal (that little guy is hungry!). So please be fair in the movements and don't make him too strategic!

Kassius stands silently by Kibeti, one hand stroking the cat as if seeking comfort or assurance. The people are innocent, their weapons are the true foes here, but the weapons will be less of a threat if their wielders were defeated. Still, there are difficulties with that as well. Between subduing Kogoloxen and then the long hike, he had not chance to restock on blunt arrows. He would have to make the ones that he does have count.

Well, the first thing he can do along those lines is call on some magical assistance. He slings out his bow, and then performs a quick spell, making the weapon glow with a magical hum for a second. Then he knocks the first blunt arrow, trying to determine his first target.


Kassius
I've decided to add resource management to the fun of this combat. Kassius has precisely 15 shots that he can fire non-lethally, after that he has to make some tough ethical choices.

Standard Action: Kassius casts Gravity Bow on himself.
Move Action: Draw Bow.
Swift Action: Activate Animal Focus (tiger) on self.

Angati couldn't take her eyes from the monster Omi moving restlessly up un down her hair as he eyed the monster. When she heard the portcullis drop, she said almost in a whisper "Time to take him for a ride Celene.." she waited for the monster to start moving to concentrate on her flickering ability, and saving her spells in case a heal was needed later.

After that, she went next to Celene. Her job this fight, would likely be to protect her as best she could.

Celene used her wand to armor anyone in need prior to the start of the battle and then finally on herself. She felt confident with Angati and Alohan at her side and she prodded the monster forward up the stairs and interrupted the meeting. Her feelings were mixed the creature was cute and, now charmed, very friendly; and she was going to press it into battle against evil weapons that would surely do their best to destroy it. When Kogoloxen reached the top of the stairs instinct took over it surged forward pressing towards the assembled Cabanites and their delicious steel. Celene was left to chase after him and was unable to keep him at a safer distance. Celene stopped at the top of the stairs and waited for the chaos to begin.

Fortified with Celene's Mage Armor, Logan stands beside Vorsh, no other protection visible over his street clothes.  When Vorsh flicks the switch, he springs into action, moving to assist the great rust monster with the Cabanites first.

Logan attacks with the weighted burlap sap he picked up before the encounter, but the unfamiliar sap felt wrong in his hands, and he missed Valora's wielder.

Wa-hoo! Oh, hang on. Celene burns through a whole heap of charges on her wand of mage armour to do the following:

Alohan: +1 AC compared to Alohan's studded leather
Kassius: +1 AC compared to Kassius' studded leather
Kibeti: +2 compared to his Collar of Armour +2
Angati: +4 compared to her walking around in her underwear :D So you have AC19 as you said in your post. Well, at least I have a small chance.

Kogoloxen bellows as he sprints up the stairs and is already salivating at the thought of turning the high quality steel into rust and consuming it. Celene stops at the top of the stairs, the words of a spell forming on her lips. Alohan and Angati flank the sorceress, warding against any attacks and ready to jump into combat (since they can't reach melee this round anyway).

As soon as Vorsh turns around to flick the switch, Logan vaults over him and tries to sucker punch the leader of the Jade Ravens (and the welder of Czarine Valora) with his burlap sack.

"Frac it lad!" Vorsh calls out as he moves to the other side and engages Soren Toregson, the welder of the Solo Hand. "I put you on that side to give you a fighting chance!" The disillusioned Paladin has a point - now Logan will be fighting seven opponents rather than four - but at least he'll be venting his furry on the sword that tried to steal his mind.

"What? Gutter-rat. As soon as I zaw you I zhould have known there would be treachery," says the bombastic blade as it makeovers Tolin easily to avoid Logan's clumsy blow. "Never mind. Where I come from we use bladez, and not zacks you zlumdog fool, and now I am going to educate you on why that is!"

Tolin raises his hand to strike but a volley of arrows from above make him hesitate. Penny and Remmi have stepped out from behind the pillar and are shooting down from the floor above. Unfortunately all three of their shots (two from Penny) miss - this isn't because they are incompetent - but what with using 'blunt' arrows and firing into the melee it is a tricky shot.

Meanwhile, Vorsh has drawn his mithral sword and slashes open a wide gash on Soren Toregson's arm (4hp) before the gladiator even has a chance to raise his weapon - the holy avenger is definitely NOT using blunt weapons.

Tolin(1) stabs out with the flashing rapier in his hand - Logan ducks and the blade pierces the middle of chair instead.

"Ahh!" screams the Czarine. "Princessa Cathandra, destroy this fool."

Behind her, Liamae(2) regretfully points her blade at Logan and activates the ability. The rogue suddenly feels the urge to dance.

OOC: Will save at DC13 or feel the effects of Hideous Laughter.

The rod in Kaskus Kiel's(3) hands (he is the dwarven druid in the Jade Ravens) transforms into a gigantic twin headed flail almost too big for the dwarf. It (the weapon) starts screaming mindlessly and forces the dwarf onto the table and to advance on Logan - the Shadowshore native is so stunned by the swirling weapon that BOTH ends crash down onto him (12 points of damage).

Lady Akanara's welder (4) is clad from head to foot in skin tight black clothes and actually smiles as he is steered to the flank of Kogoloxen - but the weapon bounces off the thick hide of the rust monster.

The coven of jet-black daggers (5,6 & 7) close in around the rust monster, with two of them flanking it. All THREE of the daggers strike their mark (12 pts damage), and Angati is busy with preventing TWO of them from scoring critical hits (MF used on 5 & 6).

OOC: The Revolutionary Guard
The leader of the revolutionary guard seems to regain some of its composure. "Larcos Dengrin," the Solo Hand(1) says to Vorsh. "You have been found guilty of crimes against the people. The sentence is death." Guided by the hands of one of the best swordsman in the city the blade passes under Vorsh's guard easily and opens up a horizontal cut on the man's chest. The blade parts the plate mail breastplate on the exiled paladin's chest (yeah, he's wearing metal) like butter. (10 pts damage).

Sabrehawk, still welded by Zan Oldavin(2) is pointed at Vorsh and a sizzle of dark energy comes out of the blade. It impacts on the warrior and starts to concentrate on the man's eyes (Cause Blindness). Vorsh just laughs and shakes it off (Fort save made).

The blades called Triage(3) and Hoardcutter(4) are brought to within range of Vorsh and Triage is successful in hitting him (9 hp damage).

Celene watched the battle unfold the weapons seemed intent upon Vorsh and Logan. She wanted to help her injured friend but knew the best course of action would be to spur Kogoloxen to even the odds by removing control over the Jade Ravens.

She pointed the monster at the largest weapon that stood against him Lady Akanara. The monster lashed out with is antenna and then followed that up by attempting to bite the black clad figure.

The sorceress then pointed towards the gladiator and covered his weapon with grease.

Logan looks back to Vorsh and shouts: "Thanks, but I wanted to get my revenge on Valora before she felt the bite of the Kogoloxen!"

Logan screams as the double-headed flail hits, and blurts out a quick chuckle when the spell hits him, but quickly regains control, striking out at Tolin again with the sap.

"Frack this!  I'm beginning to wish I brought my weapons, damn the monster!"

Kassius glances over at Logan, and sees the man take blow after blow.
"Try not to die again!" He calls to Logan, trying to sound joking instead of scared for his friend. However, the man's foes are to far away and sheltered for Kassius to have any likelihood of hitting them. Instead, he leans over the balcony and fires at Zan Oldavin, hoping to quickly end Vorsh's combat.

The first arrow misses as Kassius slips slightly, but the second slams into the man, moving with a momentum greater than it should given the size of the bow.

Kibeti stands besides his human companion, granting spiritual guidance. Kassius would prefer to avoid killing any of the human wielders, and Kibeti isn't very good at restraint.

"I be comin,' Logan!" he hollered. He let loose his anger and took a few quick steps leaping into the air. He kicked one of the attackers in the head -a glancing blow. With his momentum carrying himself into the attacker he brought his second foot up into the base of her neck. He didn't want to kill the lady -only hit her enough in the head to lose consciousness. He knew what points to hit to prevent significant damage but time was running out. Logan was in the thick of it and this lumbering rust monster was being carved into. If they had any hope of freeing this city from intelligent weapons, he needed to start thinning the herd.

Angati  had tried to avoid the hits from those daggers, the battle had looked really bad in that future... it still looked bad, she just couldn't stand there waiting for it to happen, so, she advanced almost close enough to the Solo party, and before getting close enough to hit them, cast a healing spell, transferring the healing power onto Omi.

The little Rhaghodessa, scurried then under the table, avoiding getting close to anyone and touched Logan's leg, who immediately felt the warmth of it curse  through his body.

Then laughing at the daggers she said to them "Hey !!! see if you can get me you tiny silly things". Given their ego's it was much better to insult them than the wielders... she just hoped she would not come to regret her words.

18:24, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 11 using 1d20+5.  Soren reflex save to hold greased sword.
18:29, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 2 using 1d20.  Soren will save against DC16.


Soren Toregson fumbles the sword as the grease appears on it and drops it to the ground. A furious look appears on his face as he tries to regain control of himself but to no use - the intelligent bastard sword that now lies on the floor has a tight grip on his mind. "Pick. Me. Up." says the sword coldly. So the barbarian bends over and picks up the weapon - Angati tries to intervene but to no avail. Even Vorsh isn't able to do much with the opening, his attack of opportunity barely scratches the gladiator (1 hp).

Logan doesn't manage to do anything with his homemade weapon - although he does get healed almost back to full health by Angati's pet (cool trick!). Kassius lands a heavy blow on Zan Oldavin (11 hp). Alohan pummels the welder of Dutchessa Thaluna (13 hp).

Angati calls out to the weapons and she is right. They're egos are huge. 'Sabrehawk' and 'Hoardcutter' steer their welders towards her.

Last, but not least, Kogoloxen drifts the soft feathers of his antennae over the surface of one of the daggers (Dutchessa Asidra Ja) but the blade is able to pull itseld back - Angati does her things and then suddenly the blade is... inert and lifeless. Not destroyed (just broken) but no longer able to hold command of its welder. The black clad man holding the blade screams and falls to his knees.

Czarine Valora, the Solo Hand and all the other intelligent weapons take note of the demise of Dutchessa Asidra Ja and seem to draw a collected breath as they finally realise how deep in frac they really are. Then the respective leaders start giving orders.

The Cabanites
"Princess Cathandra, Lady Akanara, destroy that ABONINMATION IMMEDIATELY," shrieks the Czarine. "I can handle this gutter rat by myself." Her followers move to obey, and the controlled Tolin(1) strikes out with the mithral blade. It merely brushes against the rogue's sleeve but it hurts like frac and Logan feels his life force being pulled out of him (5 pts of constitution damage and no save). Czarine Valora moans contentedly as she sucks out the young half'elf's energy.

Is it Logan's imagination or does Tolin actually smirk a little at this turn of events? Is the ranger actually enjoying this?!

Liamae(2), welding the unseen blade, takes a step back and then motions with her hands. Two small missiles fly out and impact into the side of Kogoloxen(10hp). The big guy doesn't seem to notice.

Kaskus(3) tries to control the unwieldy double headed flail that he is holding - it looks like he wants to take a step back and cast a spell - but the weapon, still screaming like maniac, forces him to hold his ground and strike at Kogoloxen again. The dwarf manages to keep his feet and lands one blow on the rust monster (7 hp). The welder of Lady Akanara uses the subtle blade to cut Kogoloxen across its maw (7hp). The monster is starting to show signs of hurting.

The two remaining Dutchesa continue to strike at the rust monster but miss.

The Revolutionary League

Soren(1) spends his round picking up the Solo Hand and wiping the grease off it as best he can.

Zan(2) attacks Angati with Sabrehawk but she blocks the attack. Unfortunately she misses the other attack made by Hoardcutter(4) - this thundering great sword strikes a critical on her which she needs to dismiss using her power. As it is she still receives a heavy hit (10 hp).

This leaves Triage attacking Vorsh but the old warrior dismissively turns the attack aside.

Vorsh strikes at Soren, but the gladiator blocks with the Solo Hand.

Up on the gong level, Penny curses. "I didn't frakken drag the beast through the jungle for three days just to watch it get chopped to pieces. Frac this!" She drops the blunt arrow and draws a normRal arrow from her quiver - she shoots it into Liamae and follows it up with another in quick succession. Both thud into the sorceress' side (8 hp total). "Frac yeah!" screams Penny.

Remmi also aims for Liamae (at least she isn't in melee) but sticks to the blunt arrows. He catches her with a glancing blow (2 hp NL).

Karthack hangs back and watches.

With the aid of divine inspiration and his inner rage, Alohan attempted to pummel his prey. He came down onto his feet a bit unbalanced, lunging with an elbow that missed. Time was of the essence and he felt himself failing. The poor beast was being carved up like an autumn ham! If they didn't start thinning the herd of mind controlled minions, the rust monster would no longer be alive.

Totally forgot so I went back and rolled just now - no luck for you this time. He rolled a 25 so he still hit. I'll add it to the active spell effects so I don't forget next time.

Kogoloxen spreads his feelers out over the opponent directly in front of him - Lady Akanara wielded by a man wearing black clothes and a black veil over the lower half of his face, with just a nasty looking scar running across his forehead to distinguish him. But Lady Akanara had seen the demise of her colleague from the same effect just a few seconds before and is careful to ensure that her welder protects her from being touched. The man receives a nasty bite from the rust monster for his efforts.

Logan breaks through Tolin's guard for the first time with his sack - and does a might 2 hp of non-lethal damage. It is becoming clear that he is going to be mincemeat before he achieves anything with his current weapon.

Tolin's eye bulge. His grip spasms. And his teeth clench as he REALLY tries to break free.

19:45, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 23 using 1d20+3.  Tolin will save vs DC15.

Possessing him and making him slay innocents is one thing. But insulting him is another thing entirely! The ranger screams and then slams the rapier down onto the cobblestone floor.

Kaskus holds the flail above his head and is then surrounded by a purple light (+4 deflection bonus to AC and a +4 resistance bonus on saving throws for 10 minutes).

Then he attacks Kogoloxen and punches past the mage armour with one of the flail heads (4 hp).

...but when Lady Akanara and the remaining Dutchessa attack, the mage armour deflects both blows! (both rolled 21 and Kogoloxen is now AC22).

Meanwhile, Soren Toregson has gone berserk and is wailing on Vorsh who is at least skilful enough to avoid most of the blows (5 hp). The weapon in his hands remains cold as ice though.

"Larcos Dengrin..." says the Solo Hand. "SURRENDER." Its voice is as strong as stone and compels the ex-Paladin to lay down his weapon.

"It's personal to me," screams Zan. "Please don't hurt me Angati!" he whines as he tries to shunt her back five feet onto the steps leading down.

OOC: His total bull rush result is 20, which is in excess of Angati's CMD of 15, but she does get an AoO. If she hits with that and does more than 6 points of damage the bull rush will fail.

At least she isn't over the hole, she's just next to the stairs. She won't immediately take any damage from being pushed back but will need to make a DC12 acrobatics check or fall down the stairs and take 1d6 damage.


One good thing - the bull rush don't ruins Hoardcutter's attack and the great sword misses.

The party's support up on the gong level continues their missile attack. Penny fires two more arrows at Liamae - both hit her in the neck... (14 hp total, crit hit on the 2nd)

...the dark haired Karameikian sorceress is flung to the ground like a rag doll, arterial blood splurting out of her neck onto the wall behind her. (-5 hp, dying condition).

"Frac yeah!"
yells Penny. "Remmi, did you see that frac?" she asks Alohan's erstwhile companion.

The Pearl Islander looks grim and continues using his blunt arrows. He doesn't have time to answer Penny as he is busy picking out another target since Tolin has thrown down his weapon. He aims for Lady Akanara's welder but misses.

Alohan watched as his target crumpled to the floor. He gave the intelligent weapon a cursory glance, debating if it would be wise to kick the thing toward's the rust monster's front but decided against it. He had no clue how much magics  the thing could wield. A rough kick might be just enough to bring Alohan under its control. Fueled by success, Alohan turned to those remaining. The beast could just as easily gobble up the intelligent weapons at the battle's conclusion -but not if he were dead. Kogoloxen continued to be stabbed and beat upon which frustrated Alohan. He had respect for the creature -remembering the rust monster's impeccable form as it suplexed him back into the mud pit- and needed him to remain alive. He glanced back at Celene, knowing what needed to be done.

He continued to dance his way through the throng of battle, coming behind yet another unaware combatant. He kicked at his hip, punched at his kidney, targeting sensitive areas that would pitch a man into unconsciousness without doing much damage. The blows came furiously, and Alohan could only hope it was enough to thin the crowd.

Logan's face goes from a pain-filled rictus to a smile of glee as Tolin throws down the weapon.  "Excellent, Tolin!  Now help us end this menace once and for all!"  The rogue steps forward and delivers a sharp kick to Czarine, sending her towards the Kogoloxen.  "As for you...I hope there's a special place in the Abyss for all the evil you've done!"

The rogue scrambled up onto the table, eying the combatants in front of him.

Celene instinctively reached for her holy symbol but was worried the dwarf would ruin her casting and couldn't afford to lose the precious magic that would heal the beast. Instead she tried her best to help Alohan fell the druid quickly. She drew another wand in her open hand and fired a glowing mote of force into the dwarves chest.

Meanwhile Kogoloxen continued to drag his antennae over any steel within reach. Biting once more at the same opponent he had previously.

Alohan hammers away at the armored side of Kaskus Kiel, while Celene fires a magic missile into him. The dwarf winces, but his weapon won't allow him to pull back.

Kassius misses with both of his shots.

Logan kicks Czarine Valora towards the rust monster, being careful to use his booted foot so that no part of his skin touches the weapon. She goes skidding across the floor, spinning around and around as she curses, then finally comes to a stop just in front of Kogoloxen.

The great beast seems to momentarily overlook the new food source.

Kogoloxen turns around and focuses a beady eye on the mithral rapier. He makes a noise like, "Mmmmm Mmmmm!" The rust monster's feelers reach out...

"Oh no! Oh no! Not like thiz! It can't end like thiz!" screeches the sword. "I will be remade gutter-rat! I will return with the Prince of Zavage Tidez! Do you hear me! I will..."

One of Kogoloxen's feelers gently brushes along the surface of the sword and it's shinning surface suddenly becomes tarnished. Czarine Valora's words end and the one thousand year old sword is silenced forever. A second later the antennae sweeps back in the other direction and the weapon crumbles to rust.

OOC: One more villainous NPC for me to delete from the game!

Tolin ignores Logan's entreating to pick up a weapon and fight - he only has eyes for what is happening over in one side of the room where the Jade Raven sorceress is bleeding to death.

"Liamae! No!" The ranger panic-ally rummages around in his packback, pulling items out and letting them fall to the floor, until he finds a potion in a yellow bottle. Then he leaps across the long table and cradles the dark-haired lady in his arms.

"Little sister, drink this little one," he mutters as he begins to trickle the potion into the mouth of the Karameikan wizard. He ignores the whirling melee which is happpening a few feet away.

OOC: Obviously she isn't litterally his sister. Also, finding the potion and moving took his entire turn, so the potion dosing will begin next round. 

The sorceress' bleeding show no signs of stopping (she failed her stabilization save and took one additional point of damage.)

On the Cabanite side there are three remaining weapons and their welders. Kaskus Kiel holds Contessa Invita, the gigantic two headed flail. The man in the black clothes and face veil holds Lady Akanara, the subtle cutting blade. And Dutchessa Fhalu, the last remaining dagger is still in the fight.

All three of them have been focusing their attacks on Kogoloxen on the command of Czarine Valora, but their leader is now gone...

Lady Akanara: "Frac this! Let's cut our way out and may the Abyss take this freak! Kill the humans and get to the doors!" Turns around and attacks Logan, while taking a 5-ft step to the east. Hits him for 5 points of damage.

Dutchess Fhalu: "As you command Lady Akanara" Takes a 5-ft step and attacks Alohan. Misses by miles.

Countessa Invicts: "Ahhhhh! Die you fracker!" Continues to attack Kogoloxen. Hits once for 11 hp damage. The big guy is on his last legs now.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, the Solo Hand begins to get a sinking feeling in its stomach. Well... maybe a sinking feeling in its hilt at least. Its greatest opponent has just been vanquished, true, but this seemed to be shaping up as a pretty bad ambush.

The Solo Hand: "Sabrehawk! Open the doors! Hoard-cutter can handle the old lady by himself." Attacks Vorsh and hits for 6 damage.

Triage: 5-ft step to flank Vorsh and attacks, but just misses.

Sabrehawk: "Yes comrade!" The rapier steers his welder, Zan Oldavin, down to the left hand set of double doors and tries to pry them open - obviously he fails since they have been magiced shut by Vorsh's wonderful magical item.

Hoardcutter: "Yes comrade," answers the blade in a voice so deep that it could never be mistaken for human (even deeper than James Earl Jones in Conan). The weapon's welder reaches out and initiates a grapple on Angati. (Take an AoO Angati, but he rolls a 24, so he succeeds in grappling Angati even if she hits, unless it is a huge crit.)

Penny continues her rain of arrows - real ones, not blunt. She hits the welder of Triage in the back twice but they are only minor wounds (6 hp damage total).

Remmi also attempts to shoot Triage but misses.

Vorsh does a 5-ft step to move out from the flanking (although I forgot to show this on the map, he moves to I6). His attack on Triage misses. The old warrior is beginning to show signs of struggling despite his swordplay being amazing.

Celene began to draw upon the power granted to her by Wee Jas and began to speak a prayer. Though it may cuase her to lose her concentration she attempted to keep from opening her defenses to the Cabanites.

Kogoloxen rears back at the last hit from the flail and turns to face it's largest threat. It sweeps its antennae at Kaskus and attempts to bit the druid.

Angati tried to hit with her morningstar as the other one advanced on her, but the hit, even though strong, missed the attacker. Knowing that she did not have much of a chance grappled as she was to break it, she tried to hit the man again, but again, she missed poorly.

OOC: My concealment is not getting triggered even once ?... man this is disappointing.

Logan continues swinging ineffectively with his sack - actually it is the black clad welder of Lady Akanara that he targets, not Kaskus Kiel (my fault, I also got mixed up with who was who).

Celene tries to cast a healing spell without dropping her guard to Kaskus Kiel and the dagger wielding man - she keeps her guard up alright but muffs the spell totally.

Angati tries to bash at the man holding her - she misses.

OOC: It is only a 20% chance with the time flicker, right? Sorry, the dice gods have not been friendly.

The druid was beginning to maneuver away from Alohan and the weapon he held was marshalling the rest of their powers. He needed to be dealt with. Shadowing the weapon and it's wielder, Alohan took a few deliberate steps before punching the man hard. He followed it up with a hook, then a jab, looking to knock the hypnotised man to the floor. He barely even registered the rust monster's wounds but he was getting a sense of them losing grips with the situation.

"Get de weapons in front of de monster!" he growled at Celene, hoping whatever intelligent weapons were left could be easily ingested.

One of the leaders was down; if they could take out the other one perhaps both sides could be persuaded to surrender, or something. Kassius draws out to more blunt arrows and fires at Soren Toregson, hoping to help Vorsh take the man down. However, his continued refusal to risk lethal damage makes his shots continue to go astray.

Alohan's last jab sents Kaskus (#3) crashing to the ground like a sack of spuds. The large flail he was holding ends up being trapped under the dwarf's large girth but its furious squeals of complaint can still just be heard.

Things are looking bad for the Cabanites now. "Just run for it!" yells Lady Akanara before taking a last effective swing at Logan (4hp damage) and JUMPING into the basement (via a 5'ft step). The black clad man lands with an elegant roll and avoids taking any damage.

The last Dutchessa (#6) is now well and truly boxed in (thanks to Alohan and Celene's careful movements). She wails and then strikes at the sorceress as the easiest target. Somehow the dagger manages even to miss this easy target as it steers its welder towards the doors at the end of the room. (Celene, Alohan and Kogoloxen all get an AoO).

Meanwhile, Hoardcutter is trying to pin Angati down - no doubt hoping to line up a coup de grace somewhere down the line. "Do not struggle elderly mortal," says the deep voiced great sword. "Your end will be swift and merciful."

Angati's time flicker fails to work (again) but somehow the elderly oracle manages to squirm free! (Lousy roll by the sword despite having a +10 bonus).

Sabrehawk is at the end of the room, forcing Zan Oldavin to pull and hammer at the doors. "The doors are locked comrades!" screams the blade.

The Solo Hand curses and looks around the room. Since it has already used its once a day teleport power it needs to find a more conventional escape route. "Comrade Triage! Keep the miserable old man busy. I will get us up this wall." Soren Toregson starts pilling up the chairs to make a crude ladder and reach the top of the wall - in his enraged state the gladiator throws the chairs around like they are matchsticks.

Traige falls back a few feet and misses in his attacks against Vorsh.

Alohan pulled back after feeling the Jade Raven collapse, ready to kick the man into unconsciousness if he stirred. He did not. Alohan turned to his next opponent and surprisingly, the Nuari warrior witnessed Fhalu's wielder rush past. He waited, sticking his leg out in an attempt to clip the fleeing individual. There was no way they were escaping.

Celene used the opening to attempt to trip the fleeing Cabanite; she knew she might suffer an attack in return and that she long odds at succeeding but attempted it none the less.

The Kogoloxen also lashes out with his antennae as the steel flees towards the doors.

Celene side stepped out of the way of the beast in case it turned and chased after the Dutchessa and turned her eyes on Zan who was attempting to escape. She raised her hand and fire coursed down her arm then shot towards the Jade Raven.

The Kogoloxen charged after the Dutchessa attempting to bite the wielder.

Kogoloxen launches a successful bite, and then Celene and Alohan time their attacks until the fleeing Dutchessa is directly between them. The barbarian/monk slams the man hard, but Celene is unsuccessful with her trip (although she doesn't fall over). The man carrying the dagger makes it to the doors at the far end of the room (as shown on the map).

Alohan found himself suddenly lacking enemies to punch. One 'faction' of intelligent weapons was now decimated, their numbers thinned and fleeing. Their wielders were either unconscious or making a break for the sealed egresses. On the other front, things were not going as planned. Angati was having difficulties, their warrior patron was in a heated battle and one of the weapons' leaders was making a break for the window. Furthermore, that crazed Penny was doing more harm than good. He pointed to Remmi. [Language unknown: "ILING EEWA ROMHOUCON WASOUNTRA O DIN UNDORTAVE ONEREDFOREEN. WHEEV OFHOEE IO VIR HITHHE!"]  he hollered, casting a sideways glance at Liame. He then pointed to the fleeing Dutchessa, turning to those still able to fight. "FINISH HER!" He hoped they had the presence of mind to start destroying the incapacitated weapons -Kogoloxen looked on the verge of collapsing.

Turning to those fleeing, Alohan broke into a sprint. Sabrehawk would not get away. Lowering his shoulder he closed the distance and threw his weight into Zan's back, slamming him into the shuttered boards.If he was able to get his weight into the crazed man, he couldn't tell as he himself was shouldered off the rebounding wood. "Dis ends now!" he said through clenched teeth, backing away from the pair.

NB: Forgot about Kogoloxen rust attack on #6!

Celene misses with her trip and Dutchessa Fhalu's (#6) wielder weathers Alohan's battering, but Kogoloxen's feathery antennae seek out the small dagger. The blade manages to avoid the effects once, but Angati does her trick and the blade ends up perishing. The dagger wielder runs to the far doors and tries to escape.

Celene:

Damn! I haven't seen that one used for a while, you must be getting desperate!
Celene finds that she is a bit 'rusty' (heh, heh. Because of the rust monster. Get it?) with her flame lance power and misses her target.

Alohan charges Zan and slams the young half elf into the door.(7 hp). Logan drinks a potion and heals some of his wounds. Kassius successfully launches two blunt arrows into the gladiator trying to climb up the wall and Kibeti stands guard at the top.

Angati:
"Old woman your fracking mother you sickly excuse of a prick" said Angati finally getting angry and feeling a bit touchy about her age and finally connecting.


"I have no mother, I think you are getting confused mortal," answers the deep voiced sword calmly. "Now stay still so I may make your end as quick and as comfortable as possible."

Kogoloxen spends the round munching on all of the nearby discarded weapons. They wail piteously as he converts them to mounds of rust and then sucks them up.

ROUND SIX - START OF OPPONENTS' TURN

In the basement the wielder of Lady Akanara disappears into the shadows.

Soren Toregson tries to climb to the top of the wall with the assistance of the stacked up chairs. The Solo Hand tries to help. "Cat. Jump down here," it commands in its authoritive voice. A funny glazed look appears on the cat's face.

OOC: Command, will save vs DC14. Unfortunately, Kibeti is just outside Vorsh's aura of resolve and doesn't get a bonus from that.

08:59, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 26 using 1d20+7.  Soren climbing wall.


Despite the grease. Despite the spitting and snarling giant cat at the top of the wall. Soren Toregson, greatest gladiator in the city NAILS the climb and leaps to the top of the wall. The huge man bellows in rage - and immediately gets set upon by Kassius' Totem Guide.

This is Kibeti's prepared action - assuming the cat did not fail its save and jump down. Soren has used his round to climb the wall.

So what happened to non lethal damage, huh Kassius? :D :P

Backed against the wall, Zan (#2) waveringly holds up Sabrehawk and tries to fight back against Alohan's enraged assault, and despite being visibly cowed manages to open up a gash across the native's stomach (9hp).

Traige (#3) activates a power, and ALL of the damage on its wielder disappears!

"Ahhh! Fraaaaaaaac!" exclaims Penny.

The sword is also used to attack Vorsh but misses.

Hoardcutter (#4), tries to attack Angati but is totally wrong footed by the oracle - she has an amazing level of deftness and dexterity considering her apparent age. (Nat 1 rolled, remembered time flicker but wasn't relevant).

Up on the top of the ledge, Remmi tries to grapple Penny.

"What the frac little man?!" screams the ranger.

"You have to stop killing these people," answers the loyal valet with a grunt. Penny easily blocks his clumsy attempt to pull her away from her bow, (rolled an '8' including bonuses) and instead PUSHES HIM OFF THE ledge! (She rolled a 19 CM).

Remmi tries to twist and claw at the side of the wall to break his fall (rolls a 6 incl bonuses), but it is greased and he drops straight down and lands badly with the back of his head hitting the long table. (5hp damage).

Vorsh ignores the fact that Triage can heal the damage he does much faster than he can make it and slips under the healing swords guard (5hp).

Once the healing potion had its desired effect, Logan returned to combat, vaulting onto the floor and moving to back up Vorsh, trying to take down Triage's wielder faster than the weapon can heal.  The rogue makes a perfect attack, hitting with a sap blow in the perfect place on the back of the head.

Celene watched her jet of flame fly past Zan and decided to turn to more reliable weapons. She pointed her wand and fired another mote of energy this time at Hoardcutter. The sorceress then turned to the rust monster and urged him towards Triage.

The Kogoloxen, if he had finished his meal, moved towards the Revolutionary and struck with his antennae.

Angati inflicts a wound on Hoardcutter, as does Celene.

Meanwhile, Logan hits Triage's wielder in the back of the neck. This opens up a spot for Kogoloxen to rust in and attack the sword - the blade manages to escape at first but Angati alters reality and it fails the second time. The blade first tarnishes and falls silent, then, after it is dropped to the floor by its wielder, is turned to rust.

Kibeti stares at the sound-making-metal intently, trying to puzzle out what the strange object is saying. The friend-human had been shooting pointy sticks at the sound-making-metal-holding-person, which usually meant that said person was an eatable-human, Kibeti's second favorite class of humans (after friend-human of course). Unfortunately, the eatble-human was to far away to eat, and the friend-human had asked Kibeti to stay by him. Kibeti had considered ignoring that order and jumping down and eating the eatable-human anyways, but had decided to stay where he was, and rub against friend-human comfortingly.

But now, eatable-human was coming towards Kibeti, and holding a sound-making-metal-toy! Ignoring the sounds being made, Kibeti attacks with savage pleasure, tearing into the man again and again.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun to write!

With Soren taken care of one way or another, Kassius shifts his aim to the next target, the man Vorsh is engaged in deadly combat with. The first arrow flies true, although the second misses badly. The best way to save lives at this point is to end the combat quickly, then Kassius can try and heal the man.

Celene is correct. I'm going to say that the arrows were aimed at Hoardcutter (#4) since a shot at Zan/Sabrehawk (#2) would involve soft cover.

Kassius lands a solid blow on Hoardcutter's wielder.

And that just leaves Alohan who is currently engaging Zan/Sabrehawk.

Alohan reflexively grabbed the gash now opened on his abdomen. He touched the exposed skin and pulled his hand away to show the rich red of his own life's blood. It was alarming and he momentarily shuffled away from Sabrehawk and his wielder. 'Remember your Mana... he heard suddenly, remember your training!' Despite his pele taking full control, Alohan had a moment of clarity. It was as if his mind, his mana, had begun to guide him. His people fought with anger, yes, but it was controlled, harnessed, and projected upon others. This is what he was to remember. He knew what to do.

He stepped into his punch, channeling his pele into his fist. He felt his charged, mana induced swing race forward but his mind was consumed in the moment. It was misguided -off target. Alohan felt shame.

Alohan misses Zan - his fist pounds into the door as the half-elf ducks. But the force of the blow makes the wooden frame vibrate heavily and this is not lost on his target.

"That's it. I give up! I surrender!" squawks Sabrehawk. At the sword's command Zan carefully places the blade on the ground and then regains full control of his body. The rogue spasms and falls to his knees, puking his guts up.

"Please don't hurt me," pleads the sword. "I never asked to be part of this crazy gang, it was just the way I was made."

"Traitor!" screams Hoardcutter, the last intelligent weapon still in combat.

"Counter-reactionary! Enemy of the people!" cries the Solo Hand from the spot on the floor where Soren Toregson dropped it.

Hoardcutter is definitely not the most innovative member of the Revolutionary Guard. It just tries to keep hitting Angati and misses yet again.

Vorsh picks up the fallen Solo Hand. "Well old 'friend', it looks like it is time for us to part."

"Don't expect me to grovel," snarls the sword. "Don't expect me to ask for mercy. Don't expect me..." The final words are cut off as Vorsh feeds the sword to the grateful Kogoloxen.

"Don't expect me to give a frac," mutters Vorsh darkly.

The rust also spends its next round finishing off Triage, even if Celene had other plans for it.

Remmi climbs to his feet unsteadily, feeling the back of his head and seeing that his hand comes away with blood on it.

Penny fires a couple of arrows at Hoardcutter's wielder and hits once (5hp).

Celene pointed her wand at Hoardcutter's wielder once more and fired another mote of energy that struck the man in the chest and knocked him backwards onto the ground. Celene turned to watch as the Kogoloxen ate the weapons upon the floor in front of it. The sorceress looked to Angati "There is one still left below."

Angati heads down into the basement, coming to a stop at the bottom of the stairs (E5) to give her eyes a chance to adjust to the dimmer light. She starts scanning the area, trying to see if she can spot the fugitive sword and its wielder in the darkness.

<SLIIICK>

Angati notes in surprise that the tip of a blade is now visible out of the front of her stomach, a result of the rogue that is wielding Lady Akanara making a massively successful sneak attack from behind.

"Ouch! That's got to sting a bit!" exclaims the blade, its voice quite muffled from it being located somewhere in the oracle's spleen.

Angati calmly searches through alternative realities and finds one much better where the blade misses totally.

Just Kassius and Alohan to go, and there isn't much Kassius can do from up on top of the gong floor. The barbarian needs to decide whether to accept Sabrehawk's surrender or not.

Alohan lost his pele. Witnessing the intelligent weapon's selfless surrender knowing all too well Alohan might feed the thing to the rust monster was enough for him to lose his physical edge. In an instant he felt similar to Zan, ready to drop to his knees and hurl. "Dis... dis is not up to me... talkin' blade," he mutters, holding his stomach. Regardless, Alohan stepped around the weapon, giving him a wide berth to come to Zan's side. With an arm under Zan, Alohan lifted the man and lead him away from the weapon. "Ya remain... where ya be."

Kassius jumps down and attends to Soren - actually the gladiator isn't too bad and is just knocked out, thanks to the 11 points of non-lethal damage accumulated on him.

The wielder of Hoardcutter on the other hand is in a bad way and is looks to be in the process of filling his lungs with blood. Vorsh casually walks up to him, ignores him, then places a boot on the hilt of Hoardcutter and sends the blade skittering across the tiled floor to Kogoloxen. The creature quickly rusts and each the giant great sword.

Alohan Nuari:
"Ya remain... where ya be."


OOC: Err... yeah. :D


The sword indeed remains where it is, calling out its surrender and begging for mercy. Vorsh calmly approaches and picks up the weapon, totally immune to any power of coercion it might have.

Meanwhile, down in the basement, Angati is fighting for her life. The black veiled man continues to try and squewer her with the blade, but her impressive armour keep him back.

"You and your friends destroyed everything! But at least you will pay with your life." screams the blade.

OOC: I'm not going to update the map, Angati is at E5, Lady Akanara is at D5. All PC's are within one move action of getting within melee if they want to.

The wielder is AC: 16/12/14 and 20hp left.

Kassius glances darkly at Vorsh as he casually destroyed a surrendering enemy. True, the enemy wasn't really human, but it was intelligent. It felt quite wrong to Kassius, but the half-orc was too slow to do anything about it. Instead, he continued tending to the fallen, magically stabilizing the wounds of Hoardcutter's wielder, before hurrying down to help Angati in her own fight.

Standard Action: Cast stabilize on Hoardcutter's wielder
Move Action: Move down the stairs to near Angati.
One blunt arrow, one round of Animal Focus on self left.

The black clad wielder of Lady Akanara is battered by attacks from Angati and Celene, and Kassius runs in to support after he stabilises Hoardcutter’s former wielder. Then Vorsh also joins the combat at the bottom of the stairs. Suddenly the man is surrounded. He fights on, but is subdued by the combined power of the party. A few seconds later the last sword is fed to Kogoloxen and the battle is over.

The ‘North Marshalling Dome’ is now a mess of broken furniture, blood and piles of left over rust. Kogoloxen sits back on his hind legs in the middle of the room and releases a huge belch. For the first time the great rust monster actually looks content, despite his numerous wounds.

As the party start attending to the unconscious former wielders of the weapons, they also reflect back over the last week or so. It has been a challenging time – they met and defeated the Dragon Lotus master torturer, then triumphed over the Lotus Lady herself (abet with a lot of help from an earth elemental), they fought a two fronted battle against rhagodessa and high scrabble scoring aquatic devilfish, then half of them had a jungle adventure while the other half fought in the Featherwhisper bathhouse, then they won a mighty victory here in Shadowshore. They aren’t dead, so that must mean that they are stronger!

OOC: Well done and welcome to fourth level! I’m going to make a small change of pace and actually give you guys some time to interact with each other and the NPC’s, rather than just rushing you onto the next adventure like I normally do.

He looked to the satiated rust monster, and spoke quietly to Kassius: "What should we do with that thing?  We can't just let it go in the city, right?  Can we...take it back to where it was?  It seems wrong to kill it when it helped us so much!"

Alohan remained pressed up against the wall, not far from where Sabrehawk threw himself down in surrender. The gash in his abdomen stung but the blood had clotted enough to where he could move about without it pooling blood. His head still swam and his stomach threatened to empty itself but overall, Alohan was no worse for ware. Zan sat behind him, lethargic, probably attempting to puzzle his sanity back together. The Nuari couldn't even fathom what it must have felt like to be magically dominated by an intelligent weapon. He suspected it wasn't refreshing. He silently prayed to his pele that it wouldn't happen to him but knew his mental fortitude was lacking.

He didn't mind Vorsh's actions, in fact, part of him welcomed it. Rather than figure out what to do with an intelligent weapon of immense capabilities they simply, did away with it. Whether he was indifferent towards the loss of 'life,' or simply ignorant of the argument, he didn't know. It was too much to think about, especially after a few minutes of battling.

When he picked himself off the ground, he left Zan where he was and made his way to the basement stairs. Upon seeing Angati bloodied and battered, he felt a bit guilty. He wasn't entirely aware of her plight. With that said, he was happy she was able to hold her own. He was beginning to expect no less. "Does she look younger?' he asked himself.

"Ya. ya be doin' okay?" he asked those gathered in the basement.

Kassius ponders the question thoughtfully. "Perhaps we could, but I'm not sure that would be best for the beast. It seemed rather sickly even in its own home. Perhaps I could set up a home for it on the ranch? I'd have to make a den completely out of wood, but that could be arranged I'd think..."

It might be handy to have the beast around, just in case more intelligent weapons came knocking, Kassius thought. And it would make an excellent addition to his steadily growing menagerie of strange and exotic beasts!

Angati looked up at Alohan and nodded "Yes... thank you... doing fine.... just... feeling a bit guilty for going all the way on these guys... it could have easily been us... back at the bath house, it was close.. so close, that I saw it you know ? saw it..." She was glad that this was over... which was something that her sister didnt seem to understand, she was continually insulting and kicking the body of the people that had been dominated by the swords.

"Rest easy Anansi... its over dear" she whispered "I am coming up now Alohan, don't worry". She gave time to Omi to finish his feeding, he was sucking all the blood that had fallen to the floor, quite a feast for the little guy... and she watched him with something akin to love as he did that "Am I turning into some kind of creepy witch or something" she thought as she turned her back on the basement and came up.

Once up she eyed Kartach and asked him "So... Logan looked over the battlefield, strewn with wreckage, and sighed.  "Well, Vorsh, looks like what you wanted is done.  What are you going to do now?"


Vorsh looks thoughtful and... almost happy. "I haven't thought things through that far yet. I mean... I know I will continue working to keep Sasserine and her people  free. And I have many contacts here... Frac it, I am sure I will work something out."

Alohan Nuari:
"Does she look younger?' he asked himself.


Indeed, yes, she does look younger. She just lost 10 years of apparent age and now appears to be in her 50's (she looked like she was in her 80's when the game started). She now almost looks as young as her character portrait! Angati also regains an ability point from reversing her premature aging.

So, feel free to roll up your hit points (remember the roll once then take the roll or average hit points rule), select your skills, feats, spells and private message me.

Kassius:
It might be handy to have the beast around, just in case more intelligent weapons came knocking, Kassius thought. And it would make an excellent addition to his steadily growing menagerie of strange and exotic beasts!


Oh gawd, are you going to breed from it?! What are you going to do with all these mutant animals you are making on the ranch?

She gave time to Omi to finish his feeding, he was sucking all the blood that had fallen to the floor, quite a feast for the little guy... and she watched him with something akin to love as he did that "Am I turning into some kind of creepy witch or something" she thought as she turned her back on the basement and came up.

Vorsh shakes his head. "No, I made certain they were all in here and accounted for. It is truly over now."

Karthach speaks up. "And I will gladly speak in front of the Dawn Council and proclaim your innocence Mister Vorsh...err, Larcos Dengrin. You name shall be cleared, I swear it!"

Karthach wants them all to go to the Dawn Council, or at least Worrin Lidu since the council is not in session, immediately. Vorsh says he needs an hour to have a bath and tidy himself up.

"After all,"
he jokes. "If they just throw me into the dungeons of Castle Teraknian anyway this might be my last chance."

Vorsh leaves, promising to meet at the Lidu Manner house in about one hour.

Did I say that Vorsh just left? Actually he hands over two magic items which he says he doesn't need anymore and might be of use to the party.

The first is a 'Pearl of Power' which allows one second level spell to be recalled and used again, once a day.

Once they are finished, the party leaves the Marshalling Dome and those that are heading on to the Lidu Mansion to watch Vorsh be absolved of his crimes take a bath and get a change of clothes.

The Jade Ravens and the other victims pick themselves up and return to their homes, nursing various bumps to the head.

At the Lidu manner house the appointment time comes... and passes without Vorsh (or Larcos Dengrin if you prefer) arriving. Karthack spends all of the waiting time telling anyone who will listen what a wonder the paladin used to be - renowned swordsman and paragon of virtue. The dwarf is therefore very disappointed we he realises that the holy avenger is not going to turn up.

Before he leaves, Zan Oldavin approaches Logan.

"Oh, hey, Logan. Sorry about dragging you into all this and thanks for... you know... saving our asses. I know that Tolin would thank you as well, but..." the ranger has already left, helping the shocked and pale sorceress Liamae out of the building. "He finds it hard to say that sort of thing, you know."

The Azure district rogue keeps his distance - a mark of respect amount thieves - an offers his hand to Logan to shake.

Penny meanwhile is still on a combat high. "Yeah, sure Kassius. When can get this brute back to the ranch if you think he'll be useful. He'll sure eat a lot of metal each day though - seems a bit expensive, but you're the boss."

She throws an arm around Alohan. "I like the way you crack heads, big fella. So, are you gunna join the 'squirt' and me for the return journey? I'm sure I can find a way to keep it interesting for you," she says with a huge smile.

Behind the dark skinned ranger, Remmi rolls his eyes.

Logan eyes Zan suspiciously, still not entirely trusting the other rogue, but finally relents and smiles.

"I've crossed paths with those swords before, Zan, and while Czarina didn't ever make me her fracking meat-puppet, I can only understand how that would feel."

He reached out to return the shake.

"I can't help but feel somewhat responsible.  If Celene and I had gotten rid of Czarina in the first place instead of handing it over to Vorsh..."  Logan shrugs.  "But then again, I've no idea how we would have done that, not having anything like that Rust Monster the last time we met up.  And besides, my last encounter with her almost killed me!"

Alohan pushes Penny away with a certain amount of force. Now that his battle fatigue subsided, he was able to come to terms with exactly how brutal the rangerette had been to his compatriot. He was royally pissed at her actions -putting the lives of innocents at needless risk was something he would not stand for. "Why do you always sleep with the crazy ones' his mind asked.

"No Penny!" he shouted. "What ya be doin' to dese people was unacceptable! And ta push Remmi inta harms way! What were ya dinkin!" Those within proximity of Alohan would undoubtedly feel the temperature noticeably rise. The volcanic Nuari had a certain air about them.

Kassius groans to himself as Alohan confronts Penny. Kassius did not know what was going on with those two, and did not want to know! Earlier in his career, he had been in awe of the superior huntress. Now, he found himself more competent, and Penny had seemed to be flirting with him, but then she went with Alohan? Kassius had always been uncomfortable with relationships, and just wanted the whole thing to go away. Sometimes he wished he could just live with the beasts all of the time, and avoid people entirely!

Grimacing noticeably, he hovers nearby awkwardly, but says nothing, waiting to see what Penny has to say for herself. In truth, Kassius was curious as to the reasoning for her action as well.

"Come on!" laughs Penny, more surprised than offered at Alohan pushing her away. "They were running with swords trying to kill us, so of course I started taking them out. If I hadn't you would've been squewered a couple of minutes a go. And as for your little platonic man friend over there, he should learn to stay out of my way!"

She sees that the tall native is not going to relent and sighs. "Fine then. Come on squirt. Let's get this beast back to the ranch."
