2B - TBG - The Sea Wyvern

The Sea Wyvern is a former Crimson Fleet pirate ship infamous throughout the sea of dread for her speed and the ruthlessness of her former crew. She is a three masted caravel 105' in length and a beam of 30'. In some ways these basic dimensions might suggest a similarity with the The Blue Nixie which is also a three masted caraval and has identical length and beam, but there is actually a world of difference between them.

The Blue Nixie is a *nice* ship. It is built for comfort and for the carrying of large samples. For that reason it only has one below deck level whereas the Sea Wyvern has two, but the Sea Wyvern has sacrificed beam below water to make it a streamlined and sleek vessel. This means that although it has a similar cargo capacity to the Blue Nixie is it noticeably faster in the water - abet at the price of a low head space below decks.

The Sea Wyvern has three decks in addition to the main deck. At the prow, the forecastle is kept clear so that men can use grappling hooks from  it. There is a small aftdeck which has the helm on it, and a poop deck which two ballista can fired from. Note that the ballista are stored below decks when not in use.

Although not having the helm on the highest deck does sacrifice some visibility, it does provide some protection during battles.

The main deck has the officers' quarters below the forecastle with six berths. There are two small lockers just outside this for storing sails and ropes.

There is an open grill which provides ventilation to the two below-decks levels - this is obviously covered with a tarpaulin during bad weather. There are two small row boats slung over the main deck.

The captain's quarters are below the aftcastle and function as both the wardroom and the captain's bed chambers. In addition to two rooms for storage there is a small trap door which leads down to the NCO quarters on the deck below. This is normally kept bolted shut on the captain's side.

The first below-deck level contains a storage area for more valuable, perishable goods that need to be stored in a less damp environment than in the lower hold. This is also where the main bunkroom is with cramped accommodation for 42 people. There is an impressive galley and an NCO bunkroom with four berths.

The lower hold is where most of the cargo is stowed. It is divided into two different sections by a bulkhead. Note that the ceiling height is pretty low down there - about five feet. Below this level is a thin bilge which runs the length of the ship.
