Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

It's not that... I am not sure if you are being sarcastic...

Its a paste that transforms into a paper wall, that mimics a real wall, so you can hide behind.

Paste, Paper Wall

Price 10 gp; Weight 2 lb.

This jar of thick, gritty paste is made from coarsely ground plant matter, weak epoxy, and bat guano. When exposed to air, the moldable substance quickly creates a thin, paper-like surface, which is ideal for creating false earthen walls. Creating a 5-foot-by-5-foot section of paper wall requires a full-round action. Though this false wall is easy to punch through, it requires a successful DC 13Perception check to identify the wall as a fake. If the creator of the paper wall spends an additional full-round action disguising the wall with dirt and pebbles, the DC increases by 2.

Create: Craft (alchemy) DC 15

By itself is easy to spot... but I thought, along with misfortune, it may do the trick.

Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

Ok, I cannot help it sorry... here are my thoughts.. my friends tend to hate me for this when we play tabula rasa... but there are mathematics to almost all this kind of probability games.

Important factors:
- Each player rolls in each room.
- DC is 16, so that means that with skills bonus of 6, we have a fair chance of staying like we are.

So, to have a decent chance, we need to have each of us at least 1 skill with a bonus OVER +6 per room visited to make it worth the chance.

I have about 3 +9 and 1 +8 that I could use depending on how far the stretch... (but two of those are Diplomacy and bluff which might be incredibly hard to come up with a logical reason to use them).

We know that going down is only 1 room... please make a quick account of your skills, and lets decide which route to take.

One question dear DM, is the result going to be rounded up or down ?... that is, if we end up with -3.5 zombies does that mean -4 zombies or -3 zombies ?.

Anyway, to sum up... we are 5, so a priori at least 3 of us should have skills over 6 per room... and if possible the total amount of bonus per room in between all of us should be at least 31.

Then of course... the dice roller will hate us or not... but in the paper, that is that.

Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

In reply to Angati (msg # 968):

Yes, what I am trying to move towards in this game is a more abstract approach – you guys will just roll a whole bunch of d20’s and I will input this into a spreadsheet and then calculate whether you slew the dragon or if it was  TPK.

.
.
.

And that my good friend Beni, was sarcasim :D :P

So yes, the DC of this challenge has been very carefully selected, and you’ll need to use some spells or abilities to tip the odds in your favour. Angati will almost definitely perform well due to her having some high skill bonus (and I'll provide oportunities for all skills to be used including diplomacy). Poor old Logan is going to struggle.

In regards to 0.5 values, I think I will put some skeletons in rather than round up or down.

Um, yes

Sorry, just want to be sure we are not talking past each other, since I don't want to mess it up for you: can Celene then use her divine vessel to give the whole team a better chance, on top of each one's own +2 bonus (if they have one)?

Specifically with divine vessel and this skills challenge… no. But normally... yes.

The skills challenge has been carefully balanced assuming that one spell/skill gives one +2. If you can use one spell to grant everyone +2 in a room, then this isn’t going to work out.

Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

I follow your line of thought Beni. But it depends mightily on what bonuses we manage/are allowed to get (see above and in thread).

I also hear what you are saying john, but this is our survival we're talking about :-)

Celene has 1x8, 1x7, 1x6 and some 5s for raw bonuses. But it also depends so much on which skills we manage to use.

Ok team, what do you want:
1) burst in, no skill contest
2) short contest (1-2)
3) long contest (4)

LogicIn-character argument would say 2) (straight after the baddie), but i am tempted to go for 3), for gaming's sake - and loot of course! :-) please tell us ther's loot, john?:-)

Thought so:-). Same goes for Celene walking around handing out guidance etc, i gather. So +2 IS max.

As i said, don't want to mess up your game:-)

Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

Heh heh. I can't comment on the loot situation.

In regards to the bonuses, if you want to burn one L1 sorceress spell slot to get a +2 bonus, and then ALSO use a scroll of monkeyswim for another +2, I would be fine with that. But you can't burn 2 x L1 slots to get +4.

I didn't expect quite so much analysis, but I can't understant why you want to maximize your chance of survivial.

Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

Kassius has Stealth, Perception, and Survival as skills with a greater than +6 bonus (+9,+8, and +8). That's why I was hoping the sneaking part could be Kassius' contribution, but I guess not. I still say let's move around and try and at least 1-2 rooms.

Heh, sorry mate, you'll have to decide and explain by yourself, but later. Right now we're just discussing if we dare take the long route (win more skill checks than we loose), or cut our losses by taking the short (where we can focus on the best we've got). I am getting a feeling most would like the short one... Oppinions?

Duh ! sorry for bringing this discussion up...

I just guess that we should take the longer route and whatever comes comes.... :)

IC I would say... Lets stay the night for spells and then straight to baddy.... But knowing that zombies seem to grow overnight kind of makes me wakey wakey.

I think we should deplete ourselves. We did quite well against the zombies and with me up front, all lubed up, I doubt they'll be too much of a threat. The more we can thin them out, the better we'll have it against Mr. Cleric.

Re: Roleplaying in Pathfinder

Logan's got several skills at more that +6 that I think I could think of ways to use: Acrobatics, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Perception, Sleight of Hand and Stealth are all at +9.  Granted, I can't burn anything to increase that further, but I have at least a 70% chance of a 16 or better, and at least 4 skills I think I could easily use: Acrobatics, Escape Artist, Perception and Stealth.  So I'd vote for going the long way and whittling down our combat.

The votes are in, we're taking the long way. Will write it in the game thread.

I just hope I won't screw up everything with Celene's less than impressive skills... You were warned :-) But I'll try to boost it with magic!
