As the waking world turns into nightmare, and my owner demonstrates repeatedly that he should never have someone else in his care, dreams may be all I have to turn to.

Wuf.

Re: The OOC Lounge

Hey everyone.
I fired up my old laptop today and found the RPoL link still as one of my google icons. I thought I'd come say hello and make sure this Pandemic hasn't claimed any of my friends.

Being High risk I haven't worked since March, Lost my home this month and living with a friend. I hope everyone else is in better situations.

Love you all, and miss you.

Re: The OOC Lounge

My health hasn't been good either... my heart problem persists today I was outside for 2 hours, all I did was help put up christmas deco by tossing small bits of christmas lights onto the roof of my friends house. I was shaking and heart pounding after standing doing nothing only 45 minutes in. Finally I had to come in and cool off, that's been about an hour ago now and still feeling feint.

I miss you guys. I know we didn't play for that long together but I'm glad we have stayed friends.

I was thinking about starting a play by post Star Trek Campaign, or running a completely made up universe using the star trek rules. Would anyone here be interested?

Re: The OOC Lounge

The game is pretty easy.

It's called the 2d20 system. Each character has 6 attributes and 6 skills. The ship also has 6 departments (attributes) and 6 systems (skills)

When you need to roll you use an attribute and skill, add them together and try to roll a number under their combined total. The GM usually tells you which to use.

Each d20 that rolls under or equal to the number of combined Attribute/Skill is a success.

Tasks require a certain number of successes to complete. With Difficulty ranging from 0-5.

Note: Special rules add die to rolls. For example, during RP you gain Momentum for each extra success you roll on a task, (which is why there are 0 difficulty tasks) Those Momentum can be spent to reroll dice, Add an additional die to the pool, or reduce the difficulty of a task.

Note 2: Rolling a 1 is a critical success and grants you an additional Success on that die. The game also has Skill Focus. For example, you're character could have a focus in Tactical Ship Combat. When you roll a task where your focus applies, any number rolled under the skill value gains you an additional success. For example:

Player has a Security score of 9 and a Tactical Skill of 4. When using the ships weapons the Focus "Tactical Ship Combat" Applies. Any number rolled equal to or under 4 now scores 2 successes.

It's like that. There is a lot of role play between bridge crew and investigating usually, and like I said it can be applied to a none Star Trek space game if you choose.

Cool,

I'll start some prep work and try to make it a generic sci-fi so everyone has fun.

Hopefully your heart will not keep you down too badly, Rachel. I wish you the best there.

But I fear that Star Trek isn't my cup of tea, even when I'm feeling my best. I'm still too much on the mystical side of things.

How about a human from a world of techo mages, who are raised with technology as mystical powers?
You might be a brilliant engineer or doctor, but to you it's all magic, not science.

That brings up memories of the time I tried a man from a planet with a medieval-like society, their "magic" actually being derived from the apparently humanoid people having four-dimensional symbionts. The temporal implications gave the GM headaches.

I wonder... How does Pokemon-speak work vs. the exegesis effects' translation ability?
I had a character in a game a while back who was a faux-barbarian unable to say much besides his own name.

In reply to Tanique (msg # 3985):

Groot is a little different than what I have in mind, Greg. With Groot, that was how his actually quite complex language came across to humanoids. Kind of like the first Fuzzy novel, when humans only heard yeeks because the Fuzzies primarily spoke in an ultrasonic range.

With this character, he was mystically limited to a small number of specific, preset words, and his name was the only one he could say for free. Every other word available cost mana like a small spell. See scord's game Multiverse Nexus, thread name The Prince And The Popper.
