Opal Aneen
Just inside the east entrance to Trincal is a large white dome with an opalescent sheen. A door-sized hole has been clumsily cut into the front of the dome, near the ground, with a stout wooden door wedged into the hole. Staked into the ground next to the door is a wooden sign that says "Opal Aneen."

Inside, the dome is transparent to a spectacular nighttime sky of many stars, none of which match the actual stars in the outside sky. The constellations move from east to west like normal, but there is never a sun or moon. Under this starry dome, someone has installed an elevated wooden floor with a long counter at one end, a room at the back that smells like a kitchen, and a fence to indicate where the bar ends and the rest of the dome floor begins. A couple dozen wooden tables and chairs are scattered around the room, easy to move around as the patrons see fit. The dome floor is the same opalescent sheen as it appears from the outside. A sign at the edge of the wooden floor warns that items dropped on it disappear as if through a thick fog, and are never seen again.

Behind the dome, there are two other wooden buildings. One looks like a barn, and the other is a long row of identical small rooms, each with a tiny window.

It's late in the evening by the time Ajeni enters the Opal Aneen. The room is about half full with patrons eating and drinking. Madame Meriwether is at the bar talking to the bartender with her shanu perched on her shoulder.

Ajeni inches silently up to the bar, taking a seat away from Madame Meriwether. She fishes the bread delivery form out of her bag and unfolds it to scribble a note:
One (1) extra-large blueberry struedel delivered to Lord Pophar's Manor.
Delivery received by Black Taymullah. No additional charge.
    --D.
Folding the form back into quarters, she writes Tahirah the outside and sets about trying to attract the bartender's attention without also catching that of Madame Meriwether.

After a few minutes, another patron comes to the bar to buy more grog from the bartender. Madame Meriwether deftly engages him in animated conversation, something about her day of folding socks, and her captive stands there nodding and smiling weakly.

The bartender wanders over to Ajeni. "Yes? What can I get you?"

Ajeni slides the note across the bar, her eyes darting over to Madame Meriwether a few times to verify that she's still occupied before speaking. "I, uh...need to leave a message for one of your guests. This is the name I was told to address it to." She taps at note and scoots it a little further towards the bartender.

The bartender picks up the note and looks at the name on the front. "Ah yes. You've showed up just in time if you're trying to reach her. She's leaving in the morning for Jargolamis. I'll make sure she gets this at breakfast."

"Jargolamis?" Ajeni frowns down at the bar at the mention of the city, and murmurs to herself. "Again with the Jargolamis? Why's everyone wanting to go to Jargolamis all of a sudden?" She shrugs one shoulder, looks up at the bartender and gives him a nod, then starts toward the door with one last sidelong glance at Madame Meriwether.

Madame Meriwether happens to turn and catch sight of Ajeni heading for the door. A big smile comes to her face, and she opens her mouth and is about to call loudly across the room, when her shanu suddenly leaps off her shoulder and dives into her lap. A moment later, a slimy glob flies over Madame Meriwether's shoulder where the shanu had been, landing on the floor in front of her with a faint sizzle. Meriwether screams for the bartender, who grabs a stout wooden club from under the counter and charges at something on the other side of the counter from her, that has two bulbous tentacles tall enough to peer over the top. The tentacles rapidly disappear, and something slithers off the back edge of the wooden floor. The bartender mumbles under his breath about audacious slurgen.

Ajeni freezes in place when Madame Meriwether spots her, running with the gambit that maybe old-lady visual acuity is based on movement, but thankfully the commotion starts just in time to render the point irrelevant. She pauses just long enough to verify that the bartender looks to have things well enough under control on his own before making a break for the door.

Once she's gotten some distance from the Aneen, she slows down and casts her gaze about to give any new shadow-lurking secrets a chance to make themselves known. When none do, she makes her way to the bakery.
