Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
Okay, so I should probably decide on an official start date for this game. Honestly, I am ready to run any time you guys want me to. However, I know that people are still working out the details of their characters, and a few players told me about a concept through facebook/ other means,  but haven't sent a request to join yet.

So, my thought right now is to begin the game in 2 weeks. If you are not ready yet,  that's fine. I don't need to start everyone at the same time, and the nature of a PBP game is that action moves fairly slowly, even if everyone is posting at a regular rate. It is also okay if your character sheet is not finished. As long as I know your char name and the basics of their backstory, I can get you started.

If you are ready before then,  I am happy to run you some "ordinary world" style scenes, where you explore the ship or meet other crew members. I might hint at story content, or deeper mysteries on board the Janus, but I won't introduce anything that will make other players feel left behind.

One small note. I know that many of the players here are new to rpol. Private Messages can be confusing for new players, because it is difficult to tell that you have one from inside the game itself. The easiest way to play on rpol is to use the main rpol homepage (rpol.net) as your base of operations. There you will see every game you play in, run, or lurk in. If the post count is bold and red, that means there are new public messages. Blue means new private messages, and purple means both public and private. I try to reply to PMs within 24 hours, so if you think I am ignoring you - I probably already sent a reply ;)

Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
We have five confirmed players right now, which is more than enough to get started. Others may join later on, which is totally fine. I'm still going to stick with my original plan for starting (officially) in about a week and a half, but let me know if you are interested in starting sooner and I'll post some ordinary world/ beginning scenes to engage with before kicking off the plot.

I currently only have a character sheet from one player. Since this is a fairly loose game system, I do not need full sheets to get you started necessarily - but I do need at least a character name and a basic backstory. If you need help, please let me know!

Also! Please feel free to chat with each other and share character information. Share whatever you want to, and keep the rest secret if you like. It's up to you how much you want other players or their characters to know about your backstory.

Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
hi, I'm Art.  I'm a tier one custodial tech. Floors need a wax? I'm your guy. Toilet clogged? I'm your guy. Your kid vomited and you need some of that weird smelling saw dust and a Watch Your Step sign? Well, I'll have to transfer you to Jerry since that is a tier two issue and above my expertise. Please hold.

Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
Nice :)

"I'm Eswald, and I'm with the diplomatic corps and -- I know, I look a bit young for that. I'm in training and ... wait, you want me to resolve something now? Alone? But I don't have a weapon. Not that diplomats need that. Err. Have you considered not shouting at each other? You can do a lot when not shouting? Especially not at me? This isn't helping anyone at all. Would you stop hitting each other?! Great. Now you have me shouting."

*brief scuffle, sounds of heads colliding like ripe coconuts*

"Ah, err, diplomat tier 3 Zack. Hello. You're a bit late but I did resolve the incident on my own. They smelled like they'd been swimming in the sewage tunnels, so this was an act of self-preservation.  Okay, my solution to the situation was to hit their heads together but you do say that two heads are better than one and they are no longer fighting. This is counting against my advancement again, isn't it?"

Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
Thank you Eswald and Arthur for posting your character descriptions ;) I am still pestering other people to send me their information so we can get started this week, but if people take too long.... Well I am happy to start with you guys.

I am currently a bit sick, so while I am still planning to start on Thursday, it is possible we will get a little bit delayed. Will do my best!

Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
Well.... I decided to just go ahead and get us started. I think Darshan isn't going to be available to play this week, so I'll wait on introducing him for now unless he tells me otherwise :)

So, we are off! Huzzah!

Re: OOC: Out of Character Discussion
I was going to just put this in Eswald's post, but it is kind of important for general player knowledge. So, I'll pop it in here instead :)

Since this is a futuristic setting, I think crew should at least have access to the level of information that modern people have through smart phones. So, looking up basic facts should be a simple process that you can do from anywhere on the ship - no need to go back to a terminal to look things up.

Towards that end - The Clairvoyance(TM) implant is a standard issue ocular implant, allowing crew members to access information about the ship as well as general encyclopedic knowledge about well-documented, well-understood subjects.   (ie - the kind of info you would find on wikipedia). Access to certain controversial subjects may be restricted or limited, and you wouldn't be able to pull up private data on other crew members or government secrets etc. unless you had appropriate access levels.

Also! Eswald, I may need to occasionally delay posts to you since you are the fastest player by far. But.... I think I can kill time in the tunnel for a bit as needed, to give others time to catch up. I don't want to reveal certain things until others get into their threads at least a little!
