Re: OOC thread
I'm getting lots of applications for the fighter roles (and a couple that can fill the wizard/rogue spots), but have no clerics yet.

I'm going through all the applications now and will respond to everyone in their private messages. I may ask one or two people to choose a different concept.

Overall I'm quite impressed with the effort everyone has put into the applications, thank you for your time!

I'd be the Cleric, then. I'd rather crack some heads than put 'em back together, so I'd be much obliged if you'd keep yourselves in one piece.

And pleased to meet you.

I shall try my best to do so!  I prefer to stand back a bit, so hopefully that'll keep me in decent health!

Re: OOC thread
Hi guys,

We have a full party now, with everyone accepted into the game :)

I've found the setting to make your character sheets editable, so you should be able to post them in your character/bio area.

The party breakdown is as follows:

Fighter role:
  • Paladin - Tara Chartagnion
  • Ranger - Fargrim Frostbeard
  • Barbarian - Carrog Shieldsplitter
Cleric role:
  • Cleric - Korben var'Gedrick
Wizard role:
  • Warlock - Nagrom
Rogue role:
  • Rogue - Fiona Quickseed
  • Rogue/fighter - Khaaven

As a group you have excellent melee capabilities, and a lot of healing from the cleric, ranger and paladin. Khaaven has some healing capacity too.
You also have decent ranged attacks (from over 1/2 of you), but are lacking in artillery (no fireball or lightning bolt). This can be addressed with a couple of magic item choices, so if there's nothing else in the uncommon list you particularly want for your character, I'll make suggestions.
For utility, the whole party is strong, there's heaps of variety in the group.

Please discuss your backgrounds and how you know each other in this thread. The adventure will start with you as a group in the town of Lake Farmin and assumes you know each other and have a common purpose. Once the character relationships are sorted out and all character sheets are completed I'll add you all to group 1 so you can see the opening of the game thread.

I'm hoping to get the game underway in around a week, so you have some time to discuss things in OOC. I'll set a tentative date of Monday May 4th for the start of the game proper.
Since I'm in Australia that might end up being Sunday night for people in the US. If you feel you need more time, let me know and that will be fine.

I'll be using the Inspiration option from 5E, and awarding it primarily in the following cases:
  1. Taking action that keeps the party together and moves the game along
  2. Heroic deeds
I'll also allow you to specify that you are using inspiration before any dice rolls (it grants you advantage when you use it).

Re: OOC thread
Hallo, everyone!

I've just set up my character's description and will be finishing my character sheet soon. When everyone has placed a description under "The Cast", it should be easier for us to sort out the party's relationships.

Tara -- Paladin of Pelor

P.S.: DM, thanks a lot for setting up all this.

Under "Character Details", the option to view and edit our character sheets does not seem to be enabled. Could you check the settings again?

Re: OOC thread
Hi all,

Khaaven here, a King's Blade retired now just a sellsword.

For backstory character interaction.

Grew up training in a military garrison or with the royal game wardens.

Served as a scout in the military, raising to the ranks of major due to his skill in getting the job done and keeping his men alive.

Served as a King's Blade, a sect of warriors who serve as bodyguards and black ops agents for their royal wards.

This could allow for many ways in which some or most of you might have met Khaaven.

In reply to Tara Chartagnion (msg # 13):

ok, try now. It looks like I have to create blank ones and make them user editable.
Next time I create a game I'll use templates, but for now cutting and pasting should be ok.

Re: OOC thread
In case you haven't noticed, this is my first time running a game on this site :) Any hints for the settings are greatly appreciated.

Stuff I think I have under control includes:
 - using groups to hide my notes from you folks
 - images
 - character sheets (hopefully)

I've seen the dice roller used in individual posts and also as background rolls. On the other site I used all rolls were in posts so it was harder to miss. Please remind me if I miss stuff :)

Thanks. Now the character sheet works perfectly! (The one I uploaded is 90% finished - just in case you already want to take a look at it.)

Re: OOC thread
Korben is a rugged 'mountain man', the last of his clan. He worships Ulaa, the Goddess of Hills and Mountains, and serves as a guide and caretaker to those who live and travel through the rougher areas in the region. He could easily have worked with a King's Blade and a Paladin of Pelor - maybe rescuing the person that would become Khaaven's patron?

@Khaaven - are you a Steven Brust fan, by chance?

Re: OOC thread
Korban and Carrog, it looks like we are all playing dwarves. We are related in some way, of course, but is it close?

Fargrim is a mountain dwarf. Beyond that, I'm not so sure. I was thinking that he was raised with a local mountain clan, but on his first trip outside decided that he liked vista's and long views of mountains and hills more than the short views of tunnels and chambers seen underground. He trained with a local ranger to serve his clan as an outsider, and has been doing so for the last decade.

Does this fit with either of your histories? I'm not attached to the last name Frostbeard, I could easily change it.

Re: OOC thread
Hello All, can we come up with a backstory where we have all worked together previously? It's probably a little early since we don't have any idea of the history of all the characters yet, but I would like it if we could start off as a mostly cohesive group.

Maybe just one or two shared adventures would have brought us to 5th level, so we don't need that much. Just enough to trust one another.

Re: OOC thread
Carrog (Crag to his friends) is also a mountain dwarf. he was inclined to Battlerager training, and so was isolated from the rest of dwarven society for much of his early life. even after the training to harness his rage was complete, Battleragers tend to sit on the knife edge of valued for their strength and ferocity, and mistrusted for their chaotic natures. Crag got tired of it eventually, and left. It would fit pretty well for him to have left with Fargrim (his cousin perhaps?), or to at least have sought him out once he left the clan.

i imagine they'd've gotten on reasonably well.

Re: OOC thread
I think working together in or background works. Mine includes having been taken captive as I was seeking a tome to further my knowledge....and power! Anyway, perhaps you, or some of you, were a party that was sent to end the threat and in turn rescued me, which then had me naturally working alongside you as we fought or way out. It was a teifling that was a part of a demon cult that caught me, his demonic patron trying to be the only source of eldritch power and not liking that the fey spirits were granting me ability, so very likely you religious types would have my captor on your radar. Also gives me a bad taste for those of my class that gain than power from such evil sources, so no fear pally, I am not evil. But I am chaotic. :-)
