Rules questions and clarifications
Hi folks,

This thread is for any rules discussions. I'm more focused on us all having a good time, but I'm sure there are things that will come up!

The Ability check
An article from the D&D site had some interesting stuff in it: http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/ability-check

Something that applies to this game is:

If a character has levels in more than one class, do the character’s cantrips scale with character level or with the level in a spellcasting class?
Cantrips scale with character level. For example, a barbarian 2 / cleric 3 casts sacred flame as a 5th-level character.

In reply to Khaaven (msg # 3):

I thought you would :) I'll just add 2 orcs to every encounter because of the extra damage...

There's a neat new Unearth Arcana article from WotC this week: http://media.wizards.com/2015/...UA_Waterborne_v3.pdf

I like the stormborn sorcerer.

Re: The Ability check
How do I say something in orcish?

Never mind, that seems to work.

Re: The Ability check
that swashbuckler looks super fun. i also dig the storm sorcerer, anything that gives them a few more spells known makes me happy.

Re: The Ability check
This Unearthed Arcana article was very nifty. Never been a big fan of Krynn's take on Minotaurs, but swashbucklers and storm-(anything)? hard to argue with that!

The swashbuckler's Panache ability needs some work...

Re: The Ability check
i liked panache, it's a good combat / social column ability, haven't seen something like that so far. i'd just make it a static DC (8+prof+ChaMod?) instead of opposed checks...

on the other hand it seems intentionally able to be affected by expertise, so i'd at least be willing to give it a shot, see how players felt about it.

Hiding
Hi folks,

I'm noticing that the rogue ability to hide with a bonus action is getting used a bit.

In order to hide, there must be something to hide behind. You cannot hide in a corridor that has nothing in it (even in dim light). Halflings can hide behind people, and some elves can hide in forests while partially obscured (like by the leaves of a bush), but in both cases the opponent still knows you are there somewhere if they have already seen you.

Have a read of this link, which has some discussion on this: http://community.wizards.com/c...326#comment-50883326

The executive summary is that after you attack once in a battle your opponents will know where you are, even if they cannot see you. And for them not to see you, you have to be behind something. If you are at range and out of line of sight, you can move, fire and move back and remain hidden, but your opponent will definitely know which direction they were shot from!

Re: Hiding
Forgot this thread was here:

Korben var'Gedrick:
Question on Line of Sight: are you playing that occupied spaces block line of sight completely or that they provide some degree of cover. Does that affect attacking with reach weapons - or just ranged attacks (weapons and spells)?

I just want to make sure I am not confused.
