Tomb of Moving Stones

A passage-ten feet wide, ten feet high, and hewn out of the rock-runs forty feet ahead. A small lantern hangs from a hook in the wall next to the door at the east end of the passage. Sitting on a wooden stool by the lantern is a balding, beardless old male human in patched and faded work trousers and a matching tunic. He is idly whittling a stick.

The old man throws himself to the floor and looks up to the party pleadingly while wringing his hands. "My name is Baragustas Harbuckler, Please don't provoke the wrath of the delvers! Don't disturb the stones in the tomb behind me i beg of you."

Og gives the man a stern discerning eye and begins calling on Lathandar for guidance to the truth.  Then he realizes the divine glow from his hands and filling the room in a 15 foot circle that extend into the wall a zone of truth is formed.  "You cannot lie in the presence of Lathander. After casting the spell Og's face becomes one of stern anger. "You resist, why do you resist the truth? Why do you care about this tomb and what is this place?"

Ooreek is paying no mind to the man even occasionally tapping his foot and talking to seemingly nobody. "There's no point in meddling in this man's affairs its only going to cause problems we don't need."  Ooreek seems to be getting mostly ignored by the others especially from his higher ranking superior Og.

"I don't resist the truth, I just don't need your forceful magic to be honest and keep my word.

This is a meeting place of the Believers a group made up of the most important people within the Red Larch community. Others include Rotharr Hatherhand, Braelen Hatherhand, Marlandro Gaelkur, and Ilmeth Waelvur. We also take care of Grund though he's not truly a member. We guard the moving stones, and make sure nobody disturbs the Delvers who are entombed here. From time to time, the great stones change position when no one is watching. That is how they talk to us. They show us signs of coming danger and warn us when we make bad choices.

The Believers have had great influence on the town of Red Larch over the years and we have grown like when we were introduced to the earth priests who help us to understand the moving stones.
"

he shudders a bit at the mention of the corpses. "Corpses, here? I..I know nothing about that the Believers are a peaceful group."

Until Taten approaches the man and catches him clean in the face with a heavy handed fist. The already prone man falls unconscious on the ground. "Lets go." Taten says calmly and the others nod in agreement and begin to walk over the prone form of this man.

A bit of a party squabble then ensues as Taten begins trying to loot the unconscious man and the others in the party don't think that's a great idea.  Eventually the larger party wins out but anger is still very clear on Taten's face.

Tomb of Moving Stones

An enormous chamber with a twenty-foot ceiling has been carved out of the rock here. A lighted lantern rests on the floor near the center of the room. An odd array of stone monoliths-some upright standing stones, and others arranged in three-stone arches-stand around the chamber. Six low stone slabs are set against the walls around the perimeter of the room. Each holds humanoid bones, dressed in scraps of tattered cloth and rusted iron.

The party fought off the earth priest Larrakh that resided in this room and as he died the floating stones in the room came to the ground with a hard thud.  The fight was a success except for the opening spell the priest cast.  An explosion hit the group that blew Ooreek into pieces, try as they might they were unable to save the Aarakocra and apprentice to Og.  Og gathered his body and carried him out of the cave and back to the town.

In the aftermath of the findings the party reports all they have found to Harburk the town butcher/guard captain.

Harburk questions Grund and Baragustas. Grund didnt kill anyone or witness the murders, but admits to helping stash the corpses. He says Albaeri Mellikho and Ilmeth Waelvur oversaw the process. Baragustas is also innocent of any overt wrongdoing, so hes quick to confirm Grunds story and exonerate himself.
Marlandro Gaelkur, Albaeri Mellikho, and Ilmeth Waelvur are the actual culprits. Mellikho maintains her innocence in the face of all evidence, blustering loudly. Waelvur breaks down and confesses his involvement, and he implicates Mellikho. Gaelkur plays it cool as long as he can, and tries flees town a few tendays later when it becomes clear Waelvur is about to implicate him as well. The murderers also tell of Larrakhs part in the scandal, and of their use of his magic dagger.
This drama plays out over the course of the next month, with some Believers fleeing the town and others disavowing any knowledge of the murders.

While the party tries to involve themselves Harburk pushes back that the missing delegation and the strange happenings about town are of greater importance and that he and his associates can handle this believer business.  After some discussion the party agrees and they part ways with Harburk.

While back in Red Larch the party investigates why the Mirabar delegation hasnt arrived to pick up the ore they brought to trade. From what they have heard the delegation was heavily armed so the fact that they have disappeared is quite a surprise.

The party hears a rumor that
A caravan guard in the Helm at Highsun says the Mirabarans passed through Beliard.

The group goes off to investigate.

Tomb of Moving Stones

Right across the Long Road from the Swinging Sword Inn stands a ramshackle two-story tavern. Rusty metal grills cover its small, dirty windows. The taverns name is very clearly printed in large, simple letters on both sides of a jutting wooden sign. Atop the sign is a rusting, oversized adornment: a warriors bucket helm with two eye slits (actually an upside-down washtub).

Inside is a large, dimly lit, wood-paneled taproom. An open-tread wooden staircase climbs to the upper floor, which is just as dim and darkly paneled as the taproom. Across the back of the taproom is a long bar with three copper candle-lanterns hanging over it, and a stair leading down to the cellars.

One of the tavern denizens is a very drunk and argumentative caravan guard named Zomith (female half-orc guard). She recently quit a caravan that came from Beliard through Westbridge, arriving in Red Larch two days ago. The caravan continued south without Zomith, but she can confirm that she brawled with Mirabaran guards from the missing delegation about fifteen days ago. She couldnt care less what happened to them, but she says she had nothing to do with their disappearance.

The party convenes confirming that if their information is true the Mirabaran delegation was attacked fifteen days ago and Larrakh the priest they faced has some connection.  The Mirabar trade bars Og carries that they found on his person proves he has had contact with them at some point recently.

Og receives a note from a carrier pigeon and it is a note from Sildar Hallwinter. "Dear Og, I hope you and Ooreek are doing well.  We have heard about the delegation and this is of great concern of the Lord's Alliance. Three important diplomats from cities in the alliance were leading the delegation: a moon elf from Silverymoon named Teresiel, a shield dwarf from Mirabar named Rhundorth, and a human noble from Waterdeep named Deseyna Majarra. The diplomats are important, but each also carries one part of a secret, coded document that must be recovered at all costs."

The next day and 1/4 pass without event and the party reaches Beliard. Orchards and large cattle ranches surround the little town of Beliard. Large stockyards lie on the east side of town, and stone warehouses along the Dessarin Road indicate the regular caravan traffic that passes through.

Tomb of Moving Stones

Everyone is talking about the travelers from Mirabar and wondering what happened. A dozen theories make the rounds, but most make no sense.

The party sorts through the gossip looking for those who spoke with the Mirabarrans, and unearth the following leads:

Neshor Fleurdin, proprietor of the Watchful Knight inn, spoke with the delegation leaders and learned they planned to head south on the Dessarin Road. They intended to visit Summit Hall next, returning the body of a knight slain in the North.

Senya, a server at the Watchful Knight, noticed a strange monk who wore a golden mask observing the Mirabarrans closely while they stayed at the Watchful Knight. The monk left a few hours before the delegation set out and hasnt been seen since.

Eann a cattle drover drinking at the Watchful Knight met the delegation on the Dessarin Road about ten miles south of town, a few hours after they left. Later that day he saw a group of five warriors in sky-blue armor and white cloaks, flying on giant vultures. The aerial riders flew overhead and turned south, heading in the same direction as the delegation.

When the party asks about the warriors on giant vultures they are pulled aside by Halrud Ponden, the townmaster and chief lawkeeper of Beliard. He looks nervous as he tells the characters about warriors in blue armor and white cloaks flying on monsters or giant vultures having been seen near Feathergale Spire, not far from Red Larch.

The party gathers in the Beliard inn to discuss what to do next and to bed down for the night.

Tomb of Moving Stones

With majority decision the party decides to head off towards Feathergale spire.  Before they bed down for the night they each gather at a local church to Lathander and with the local priest and Og's assistance they have a small impromptu service for their fallen comrade.  While it saddened all the ability to stay their goodbyes made the burden lesser than before. Especially for Og who will feel the loss of his apprentice for quite some time both personally and politically.

Then the party beds down for the night.  While they sleep they each have a dream of various cultists, worshipping an monstrosity that looks like an eye.  Surrounding them are calamitous weather effects that spread out and begin wiping out whole cities.  Massive tornados, giant floods, blazing inferno's and the very earth beneath their feet splitting in twain.  Yet finally the party awakens, tired and distraught they convene and discuss how they all had the same dream.  Considering what happened to Red Larch they were certain something was seriously wrong.

After awakening each member does their morning routine eats breakfast and gathers their things. They each meet up and then head out of town for the journey that will take just a bit over a day to complete.  The party leaves in a raucous thunderstorm but in between crashes they hear a strange, croaking cry from somewhere above catching everyones attention. Everyone spots a trio of huge, winged shapes gliding toward them-giant vultures! Each bird carries on its back a warrior in dull blue armor with a dirty white cloak.
