Re: [OOC] The Tavern
Honestly (and it's not a criticism of the DM so don't take it there) I don't think we have much choice unless we're all prepared to say screw it and risk a TPK / Game over. We're level 1. Level bitch. We were getting our asses kicked by insects and a single shaman even though it was like 6 on 1.
My play style is "Awesome." What I mean is, I'm the power gamer. I don't do well not being able to crush my opposition. I don't like, fail, fail, fail, try again, fail, DM finally feels sorry for me so I get a Rocky montage, Yay look at me I finally overcame extraordinary odds. We are the champions. Roll credits. That is a stupidly boring trope to me that also takes foooorever to accomplish on a play by post game. Some people like it! I was just talking to one of my players yesterday (@Pearl: Jasmine). He actually likes the Zero to Hero trope.
That is okay!
But to put it into context for me... I never was that kid. I wasn't bullied. I wasn't socially awkward. I didn't have trouble finding girlfriends. I didn't suck at anything I put my mind to, and I had the mentality that if somebody was better, I got out of their way. I don't relate to that type of character, so it isn't enjoyable.
The second half of it is that it's all I ever get stuck playing, too. So I'm sick to death of it. I hate being challenged by things that suck. For Goblins to challenge me, I have to be playing a scrubby character. Even our cool DM made a joke about this being a candy land challenge or something. Well, in a way, yes actually! But context is king. If I'm to be challenged I want to deal with something meant to be a challenge - a squad of Illithids where 1 is a psychic warrior, 3 are assassins, and 2 more are War Priests that had time to prepare! Or a pair of Death Knights backed by a Necromancer with a Skeleton Warrior bodyguard and 10 Wraiths making the front line. Now we're talking! Now we're cooking with peanut oil! The best part is that even if I'm playing a jacked to the gills Conan the Barbarian character with sweet, sweet gear, it's still an, "Oh shit. I might actually get my ass kicked..." moment IC as well as OOC.
Which comes around to the 3rd aspect of my style. I'm a narrator and actor. I like a lot of interaction and banter. I like strong drscriptions. I like a cinematic view of things. Because I spend 98.8476% of my time being a DM, I couldn't care less about spoilers. Give me the script. You want me to do something? Act a certain way? Treat a specific NPC like they're royalty? Let me know! As a pro wrestler, part of my job was doing the job! I'm not the enemy. I'm in it for the story. As the DM you've got this story. You've cast me a role. Direct me!

Zug Zug's goals are simple. 1. Keep talking like he's an idiot so everybody thinks he's dumb as a box of rocks and seriously underestimates him. 2. Occasionally be funny. 3. Kill the first mate in such an anti-climactic non struggle that it's actually epic. 4. Flay the current Captain and then keel hull him. Yeah. Salt water will make it really suck. 5. Attain an appropriate level so badassery isn't a bluff. Hoard lots of treasure. Finally go home. If along the way things happen to improve this list, sweet!
For now, I dunno. Unless we're all prepared to say screw it if we die we die its what happens when the options are be bitches or die, I'm at a loss. I think we're stuck getting screwed over and being punked, and it sucks worse than having to eat the rotten, moist, asshole of a roadkill rhino left out to rot in the sun for 3 days. :P
