Re: Off into the Unknown

I don't see the Terran issue as likely at this point, as everyone came as a part of Kalishnakov's Enterprises. We should agree on certain signs and signals to prevent any intervention by the Government ships and merchants will be convoyed to and from jump points. We can create electronic systems to confound such attempts within weeks or a month and greatly simplify this issue. As to bribing rebels to attack rebels... I have no immediate answer. Are there some so undedicated to your cause?

Kat nods agreeing with Cyril "For now we just need to worry about your government ships but at some point in the future, there could be pirates from various systems.  So we will need to make sure we have a way to recognize each other."

In reply to Katherine 'Kat' Steele (msg # 958):

"Many of the rebels have family members in Government controlled territory. Whilst they have no love for the fanatical government, the same cannot be said for family members with guns at their heads. A dynamic identification system would be the best solution, with agreed upon travel plans to help minimize this, plus open and clear lines of communication. Perhaps we have some representatives on your planets, and you have some on ours."

I think those are very wise things to do... and yes, I do understand the strength of family ties, we need to get rid of this government soon obviously.

Re: Off into the Unknown

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 960):

He laughs a little at the suggestion of getting rid of them.

"You would nit be the first to try that, but you can't get rid of an ideology with guns. Containing them would work for now.

In that case, we will agree on an alliance in principle for now. We will establish a permanent base on your planet, and you on ours.

We agree to trade, and offer two cruisers with one plasma bay each, delivered to your pkanet, in exchange for your engineer explaining how fusion plants and missiles work.

We offer a fully working 6,000 dTon freighter in exchange for computer technology, which we will fill once a month with trade goods for you and which you fill once a month with trade goods for us.

Is this agreeable for now.

Cyril looks at Maya... I am not sure we can do this by volumetric measure... a 6,000 ton freighter full of small electronics is worth a very large amount, compared to a freighter full of say Fighters .... but we can guarantee you favorable trade terms...

That makes great sense... let's work on this then... You establish a reasonable value for your goods and I shall ask that the colony does likewise.

[Private to GM: I don't think we have anywhere enough information to allow us to actually negotiate this deal. The best we can do is facilitate a meeting between folks with far more knowledge than we have.]

"Perhaps the next step would be for you to return with a delegation from us to set up a permanent base on your planet, and then bring back a delegation from you to set up a base here and on our main planet. In the meantime, some of your traders can discuss with ours reasonable prices for trade goods. By the time you return, perhaps we can hit back at them..."

"Of course. But also some intelligence operatives in order to minimize or at least warn of some of the more underhanded ways of attacking that they may use. A small contingent of troops as well to ensure their safety. Thirty individuals in all. You will need to bring at least fifty humans back, with twenty coming here and thirty coming to our main colony. We will start construction of a compound for you here, and send word to construct one on our main colony.

I'm sure we can arrange quarters comfortable for your folks as well.  Let's get this in process so we can be up and running before any counterattack can be mounted.

Re: Off into the Unknown

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 969):

With an agreement in place, you modify a large section of the passenger quarters to accommodate the physical requirements of your new allies.

The jump back to the colony is not disrupted by the government scouts brief appearance. The scout quickly leaves as a couple of flights of fighters began to converge on it.

Back at the colony, scouts have been sent packing from there too. You land, making contact with Andrew, who ratifies your agreement and makes a location available for the Labrysian base. Delegations are sent out to the rebel planets, and trade of electronics for fighter hulls and ship plating is set up.

[OOC Three cps each. I had in mind you working with Labrysian intelligence for the next bit, but you could equally well be exploring. None of you really have enough rank to be significantly involved in major fleet actions...preferences?]

No, exploring any place yields intelligence of some sort... value may not be great, but you know more. Anyway... we would seem to be exploring Labrysan Space for our mutual benefit?

Re: Off into the Unknown

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 974):

Yes, ok. That would work. Not a lot of Labrysian systems unvisited, but most uncharted and no planets mapped...by you. Doing that while inserting Labrysian rebel intelligence operatives can combine the two.

Will open up a new thread in the next 24 hrs. Please ensure all cp are spent or maked on your sheet as unspent by then. You can make some new purchases as well.

Captain Maya will be reassigned, so Cyril should consider increasing his rank further. Increased rank allows for larger ships under his command...

OK, saw it and then forgot...  OK, Rank 4?

anything left should goto courtesy rank... which looks like it should be around 5 really... based on GURPS Basic...

Re: Off into the Unknown

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 978):

Courtesy Rank is in addition to actual rank. Rank 3 plus 2 levels of courtesy rank is courtesy rank 5. To convert to actual rank, you loose a level of courtesy rank (hence you get that one cp back, which means you only need an additional 4 points for the level of rank). At least, that is how I read it. Otherwise it would be possible for your courtesy rank to be lower than your actual rank...a situation that would not make sense!

By the way, you are now Captain of Dastavka...that means you can fill out the captains Diary thread if you wish. Or I can, just let me know.

Re: Off into the Unknown

Looks like you got there first...  BTW, today is Father's Day in the New World, so I expect the list to be very slow... I'm sure that's what has Kate off this weekend too.

As for Rank, it makes some sense, although a Commander in a Merchant ship likely has less respect/authority/responsibility etc. than a Commander of a Military ship.

You will have to change my Tag ... I'm unable to ... obviously goes from Security Officer to Captain.

Re: Off into the Unknown

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 980):

That depends on the circles in which you mix! Commercial Captains have far fewer crew, so they have to be able to handle a lot more themselves, whilst Military Captains in times of peace are not seen in the general public as doing much except training. Ironically, neither recognizes the other: a Naval captain will have to re-qualify in order to serve as a commercial captain, with nothing more than his sea time being recognized, though of course his knowledge will help with the tests.

Tag rectified.
