He thinks about it for a minute.

"Yes, I guess we could drop the mainsail. Go ahead and do so, I will stay on the helm and see how she handles it."

As you drop the mainsail by activating the winch, it does roll a little more, but remains easy to control.

If possible, Ronovan will simply use the entire contingent armory, keeping the best and heaviest weapons for his men and modifying the rest for human use.  (He will, however, keep some additional weapons in case some of his men need replacements.)

In reply to 'Captain' Ronovan Ga Det Hug (msg # 296):

Ok. Given you have 26 Labrysians left (7 of which are in various stages of recovery), please look over the armoury and provide numbers of what is to be kept, and what is to be given away. Note also ammunition...some captured guns used caseless rounds for which you have no ammunition for. (They were damaged when the APCs submerged).

Cyril looks at the man... I'm not so sure... he has quite a temper.  But perhaps we should take him to see Kalishnakov.

"You'd think that after witnessing the almost complete destruction of Landfall, burying scores of their friends and relatives, and cobbling together an aircraft and flying alone for two days over eight hundred miles of wilderness to get help, they could show just a little gratitude and respect!"
In addition to his recent herculean efforts, he'd been one of the few to have spent most of his life maintaining the New Tel-Aviv and it's sleeping passengers, been in the first group to set foot on Aquitaine, and for the last six years worked tirelessly to explore the planet and search out new suitable lands and resources.
Now though, those very people he'd supported, most of whom owed him their lives, appeared to have turned on him. Perhaps it was because he was seen as an outsider, somebody who spent the vast majority of their life far beyond the edge of civilisation?

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 299):

"You try burying almost your entire family and then face being called a coward and see how you take it!"

In reply to Security (msg # 300):

"You want to go back to Landfall?"
Meir was clearly fearful of the possibility.

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 304):

The next few days pass quickly. Duke is able to modify the captured Labrysian weapons, and the colonists are quick to learn how to use them. A contingent of Labrysians also ask to be stationed there permanently, after the colony leaders offer them such a placement. A breathing bottle to modify air for their use with a respirator makes this an option, though Meir feels rather like a relic of bygone days as the relationship between Labrysian rebels and colonists grows.

Meir was struggling to find much he could do with himself. He'd uploaded the information on his computer and completed several in-depth reports on what he'd experienced in the past few weeks, but that had taken barely half a day.
Technology and the focus on rebuilding had almost eliminated his usefulness to the colony for the foreseeable future - he was an explorer, not a farmer, builder or process worker. He needed to be out in the wilderness somewhere, taking risks others baulked at and expanding the collective knowledge.

Fuelled up, yes. 10 Labrysians have asked to accept the invitation to stay and work with colonists, so with the 4 killed earlier, only 16 are returning with you. You have Meir, who I understand is coming with you, probably taking Lewis Grey's room?

"Seems I'm free to leave the planet for a few months now my roll is obsolete. Just need to run it by whoever's in charge now Landfall's gone."
Even though he'd been poorly treated by some, he still felt some loyalty to the hundreds of colonists left on the planet. They were his family. They were everyone he'd ever known.

"Well, now that landfall is gone, the bases are of equal rank, so all of us leaders are the same rank. We will have to elect a leader in time, but I think your role is far from over. Apparently, we have neighbours on neighbouring planets, and it is becoming apparent that getting to know them is crucial for the colonies survival. Hence, leaving the planet to get to know the neighbours is a vital role we need you to play, and try to get treaties with them so we are no longer alone. At least, with those who will, so we can fight together those bastards who love war."

Meir soon had his remaining possessions packed and ready to go. Much of his equipment would probably spend the foreseeable future kept in storage, and some of the electronics was clearly obsolete to the crew of the Dastavka, but still quite serviceable in a quaint and rudimentary sort of way. A hundred or more years of technical advancement tended to do that.
