Ok. The nearest safe area is a clearing about 15 km away. It is a wide open plateau with good visibility. It will take about 2 hours each way on the grav bikes.

As that's what Sdian directs then that's what we do.

Grav Bikes? I thought the scout ship picked us up and we spent the night... ten it put us back down where it had picked us up...

The scouting team were on grav bikes. If you are picking them up, you will need a clearing to land at least the shuttle in .. though if you are picking them up directly you will need a bigger clearing for the whole ship.

I don't think you specified if on foot or not, so I assumed the fastest mode possible. But if you were of foot, you would be slower, happy to run with that if you wanted to.

We were discussing the camping options above, looking for a clearing to land in. It was stated that for the shuttle, there was a spot nearby that would work (say withing 10-15 minutes), but for the ship, for all of you to land, you would need a bigger clearing, about 2 hrs away.

OK< we are working with the shuttle... the Minnow II is not around. We can sleep aboard the shuttle safely.
We can start out in the morning from where we left off.

I'll pass the buck to Leticia as to how we are tracking (Grav Bike or on foot).

Leticia's decision is based on the probable distances involved. (Actually how far are we talking?)

I assume yo have travelled about 60 km during the previous days tracking. On foot would double the travel times. The shuttle makes a good base of operations, as it is smaller and more aerodynamic.

Overnight, there are a few small scavengers that approach the camp (about the size of large rats), but nothing that would threaten a person. You set off early next morning to return to where you last saw tracks.

The next day of tracking is very productive. As sunset approaches, you find a campsite with evidence of multiple persons! These tracks do not seem to be the person you set off to find...but this region should be deserted according to the authorities.

We pass this to the Shuttle for them to relay to the authorities; we send an area scan with a camera and specific pictures of anything that seems important.

The area is particularly heavily overgrown and rough, with many bauxite laden rocks strewn around. The valley seems to be at the head of a long canyon with a small creek still running through it that is similarly heavily overgrown. You would be about a days travel up the creek at full speed, which is about trice as fast as you have been tracking at.

Authorities suggest this may not be the lad you are looking for, but they are interested all the same.
