So anyone we meet out there is likely a Pirate as anything else?

The Empire strikes back

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 704):

"The term 'pirate' has a kind of vague meaning out here, as the laws are far from clear. The military will break up fights, but generally little else. The colonies can't decide between themselves what laws should apply. Thalassa and Chrysolite are the main ones, but all the smaller colonies are started by various nations on Terra, and apply national laws generally."

That's interesting...and dangerous. Do we have any idea which nations start which colonies?

The Empire strikes back

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 706):

"Some. A USA/German joint venture started Chrysolite. Tunguska is a Japanese venture, Yenisai is a Chinese venture, Thalassa is a European Union venture. We were working to start a Russian venture, but I don't think it is their first. The Russian government sponsored Andrew's sisters exploratory voyages."

She looks at Tanya "So, where does that leave us? If we claim an area, are we doing in the name of the Russians and how is it registered?

Well lets hope the Jacques follows us...  it can probably do a great deal more than we will be able to.. we'll just try and direct them to likely places.

The Empire strikes back

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 715):

You all return to the ship, with is refuelled and resupplied for just $12,000, including fees.

[Private to Cyril Zotmund: You would have been given an account with 50,000 credits for the mission, as down payment on the reward. You will be expected to manage that. Now at $38,000]

Departing the planet, you set course for Tunguska.

Tanya does the Navigations plans, to the jump point and through Hyperspace.

Kat, piloting please.

Duke stands ready on the Jump drive.

The Empire strikes back

In reply to Katherine 'Kat' Steele (msg # 717):

You enter hyperspace and everything appears normal. Coming out of hyperspace a week later, a smallish planet looks in your screen.

Tunguska is a moderate sized world, more white than green, but there are some green patches around the equator. Though the atmosphere is thin, it is breathable and more friendly than Chrysolite, though you will need your winter clothes here.

"Tunguska control here. Please state your purpose and destination."

There are mo ships visible this time. In fact, there is not so much sign of life. Your data shows that many of the planets 10,000 population live in just a small cluster.

Noting your IFF (Assumed on in Terran space, as per law?)

"Welcome Dastavka. Please land at indicated beacon for fuel and supplies."

An electronic beacon activates near the equator, indicating a landing zone.

The Empire strikes back

In reply to Katherine 'Kat' Steele (msg # 721):

The settlement is on the shore of a massive round sea, the scars of a lethal asteroid strike that depleted the planet of much of the air-breathing life forms, and much of it's atmosphere. The starport is basic, but does contain refuelling and accommodation spaces.

Landing, you find people are observing you from a distance. Much of the planets population are busy with setting up many lifeforms you would find familiar on earth, and there are large fields of crops engineered to survive in the lower atmospheric pressure of Tunguska.

It is not hard to find fuel and supplies, though the fuel is unrefined. After a number of hours, the Jeremiah Jones refiner has refined it to much more usable fuel. Costs are still $12,000 for docking, refuelling and replenishing supplies.

We don't stay to sight see...  we refine the fuel, replenish supplies, ask about any recent  information, especially in the direction we plan to go and then prepare to leave.

The Empire strikes back

In reply to Cyril Zotmund (msg # 723):

You take 24 hours to refuel and resupply. The information they have to offer is largely the same as was offered on Chrysolite. Setting off again, you again prepare to jump to the unsurveyed system only identified as 1136.

Tanya take extra care in setting up the navigation computers, even noting a previously unnoted comet in the system. Duke sets up the jump drive and waits for Kat to put them into position.

Ooc: Sorry my mistake. I meant the Jeremiah Jones transponder.

In reply to Katherine 'Kat' Steele (msg # 725):

The Crockett enters Hyperspace easily.

The databases do not contain much about the destination. A moonworld orbiting a gas giant in a system simply known as 1136, it is a Garden world with a diameter and temperature like earth, though gravity only 84% of earth. If it were further away, it would sound ideal.
