like for an example, the surfer dude is fine.

I had a player who created a Duggart, and wanted to invent cheeseburgers.

To me the first is a character that is joking, the second is a joke character.

Yeah, the packages tend to be a better value, even if you roll max, you'll sometimes find they are still worth more. Backgrounds do however provide a lot of narrative items over practical ones, so it is difficult to calculate the price on those. here is the section from the book describing rolling for coin.

quote:
STARTING EQUIPMENT
When you creale your characler, you receive equipment
based on a combinalion of your class and background.
Alternatively, you can starl with a number of gold pieces
based on your class and spend them on items fram lhe
lisls in this chapter. See the Slarling Weallh by Class
table lo determine how much gold you have lo spend.

We are good on the martial front, I am guessing I could go sorcerer/warlock for the social and caster aspect (though we do have a bard). I will think and decide later today.

As for what makes me happy: I am happy when the party is happy to have my character in the mix. :) I have played almost every class and I fall in love with each character I create (more because of the memories and the RP than the class/race).

Yes sir. I kind of went for a warmage type of build with the shield and medium armor. Planning on taking the medium armor master feat later on if the character lives to be that level.

Not a competition, but it has been fun trying to convert her from 3.5 to 5e. Have any of y'all played 5e before? I'm having trouble converting one of my abilities (gained through a combination of feats) into 5e mechanics.

It essentially let me cast one level 2 fire spell at will. I pretty much spammed that thing in the original game when it came time to fight. It was more effective than dual wielding...

I'm fairly experienced with 5e, actually.

I don't think there's a feat that will do that in this edition, but cantrips are much more powerful and unlimited (and get bumped at 5th level, so your Firebolt is currently a 2d10 damage...)

One thing worth noting, if you're shopping for a feat to take?

Ranged spells, as a rule, are at disadvantage when fired at a target within 5 feet.  The Crossbow Expert feat gets you around that, so says Mike Mearls and a whole bunch of errata.

Mind you, pretty much every feat is OP in it's own way, so it's worth shopping through them.

Just about every time I have tried to use a bow, I have either sucked badly or hit party members because of crit fails... I think for a feat Dual wielder is what I was going to go with so I don't have to look through and say "Hm? I got any touch spells that aren't ranged?" Besides, the original character sheet has TWF as a feat, and I wanted her to dual wield regardless... It doesn't seem to have any prerequisites either... (To my memory as i am at work).

That's really cool that you have a dragon. I've always wanted to get one in a D&D game. The closest I've come to getting a dragon was in a D&D 5e game where this cult was trying to resurrect Tiamat and we went into their base to smash some dragon eggs. My character was a human rogue and wanted to steal an egg without the rest of the party knowing, but in the end I failed because I kept running ahead and getting almost killed by bad guys and traps. I also got a permanent running penalty because an ogre tried to rip my leg off and eat it while I was unconscious. When we got to the egg room they shot all the eggs with arrows before I could even try to steal one. I figure if I had stolen one though it would have played out like in Jurassic Park where the guy steals a raptor egg and the raptors came after them. Only this time it would have been a great big blue dragon.

Tyranny of Dragons, I'm playing in that game on MythWeavers. I play a former gold dragon (currently a half elf cleric). Which funnily enough I named after the dragon here, StormFire. :p we just got into the Hatchery so sssssshhhhh don't spoil it for me! Should be a fun run til the dwarf finds out my character's past. I believe it's campaign bond number 10 that I took? It's been like six months so I can't remember off the top of my head.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I meant a backstory for your trinket as in how you got it. Who gave it to you. Create a story where maybe some things happened with it that was strange.

It's should be added to your character backstory but not necessarily completely intertwined with it.

I would prefer the trinket backstory separately written so I can find it easier, but if you want to add it into your backstory you can, but it is not required and will have no affect on any benefit I come up with.

07 A pair of  knucklebone  dice,  each  with  a skull  symbol on  the  side  that  would  normally  show  six pips

Well... That's not so bad I guess...

ahahaha.  My grandmother used to tell me stuff straight out of sci-fi - I thought she was trying to be a good storyteller.  Nope, found out in my mid-twenties that my grandmother I'd lived with for most of my life had been a paranoid schizophrenic.

By the time they told me that, it made perfect sense - what amazed me was that they had the diagnosis before I was born and had never told me :P

20- A glass jar containing  a weird  bit  of flesh  floating  in pickling  fluid

This could be a tricky one.

I was wondering the same as Grim.  I have a back story almost done, is the back story for the trinket supposed to be separate or connected to our own?

It is in Blight, but all the same, wouldn't the noble die if the ingredient isn't found? Yes it is a long journey, but it surely would be worth a try from the heroes? Unless you'd rather stay home and let the noble die without even trying... Which is horrible, in my honest opinion.

Hi Co-DM!

If Roland were involved in the negotiation of this deal, he'd have insisted on a clause that if the noble croaked during our voyage, we'd still get paid.  (Neutral, not good)

Fortunately, Roland was not a part of those negotiations, and in my opinion, he's not quite smart enough to ask about that at this point.  I just wanted to confirm the sheer distance we'd be traveling - that's 350 miles, by my reckoning.  I don't know if we have horses available to us, but that's conceivably a month's round trip.

I was actually flashbacking to a Treehouse of Horror episode of the Simpsons.  They're staying in a haunted house and there's a voice telling Bart to murder them all.  He's a little weirded out by the voice and tremulously asks if it's his conscience - which weirds the spirit out, but it goes with it.

Keep it up :)

Sylvia, Everard, Reanna (you haven't seen her yet), StormFire have all come with me from that other website because they love me so much they couldn't stand to be without my game

lmao joking, but they did come with me

Ouch.  20gp is way outside Roland's price range - I'm at 3gp 4sp.

On the other hand, I imagine with Constitution 20 I could swim all day long without tiring, and have a swim speed of 30 (add Dash to that and I can conceivably match the speed of the boat).

Reason why I am thinking which style to take at level 2. Archery +2 attack rolls with ranged combat, or two weapon fighting for the mod bonus with the off hand.

Right now starting to plan for my future feats and classes and levels. This guy should be real tough and mean at level 9 on up. looking to be a fun support build for the tanks.

Re: OOC

@Beldak You are correct.

@Gryphon If you stack two-weapon fighting with Hunters Mark, you can get a pretty high DPS - the hunters mark damage bonus is per attack, not once a round, so at low levels it's more advantageous than the rogue's sneak damage.  The downside being that you need your bonus action for two-weapon fighting, so you lose one attack on the first round with that target

That's what I thought, will go archery then want bonus to hit at level 5 will have 3-4 Attacks a round depending on weapons used. Level 4 will be nice need that next feat then damage machine. Since ac will suck will stay at range as much as possible.

Re: OOC

My support range ranger at level 5 will be good doing about 60 points of damage a round if all attacks hit. Once he hits level 8 it will be closer to 80 points if all attacks hit. I think what I have planned should be a good build, only time will tell for sure.

Archery for sure with this build, need the help making those attacks hit. Hopefully can do enough damage to keep enemy casters from casting and giving cover fire and support to our tanks.

Re: OOC

A good way to have damage on the ranger is to go sharpshooter and take the archery +2. That way you make a -3/+10 trade-off using the sharpshooter attack, and don't have to worry about upto 3/4th cover. Combined with hunter's mark and a good hunting style (or whatever those are called: colossus slayer and stuff), the damage is not bad.

A ranger can also provide good out of combat healing in form of goodberries and cure wounds.

What feats have you taken at level 1? We are allowed 2 here in this game (if you are variant human).

Also, goodberries are a good source of healing since you can convert unused spell slots per day to get berries that are good for the next 24 hours.

didn't know we got a free feat at 1st level. That is wonderful then. I will have crossbow expert and sharpshooter then.

Thanks for telling me will update the sheet and let DM know of change that makes me much better at start. Goodberry is ok as a spell. Makes what up to 10 berries that heal for 1 point each and equal food for the day but last up to 24 hours then gone.

I can find food for up to 5 characters if it is possible to find any with no failure rate. 1 point each berry is weak we can rest and heal up better or just cast a cure wounds slot with it for more than 10 or close to it. Nice to have a nice crowd control spell or other instead. Nice spell if I didn't have cure wounds or couldn't find food, my thoughts now is what other spell is good since only get 3.

Cure wounds needed for sure
Hunters mark no brainer for damage
???? something useful still thinking about it before level 2 when I get them

For those I haven't met, Hi! I'm mostly behind the scenes.

I was trying to find the house ruled feat thing and looked through some sheets (mainly Sylvia's, Everard's and Shala's cause I know them from another site) I saw the rule about when we get them, ie. 1, 4, 8, 12, etc, but I cannot, for the life of me, find that humans got two at level 1...

I'll give a cookie if someone can point me to the place where I can find that house rule...

Re: OOC

Variant humans get one by RAW, and 1 by the house rule, bringing it to 2.

@Gryphon: Well, last argument in favor of goodberry:

Cure wounds can not be stored for future use. Also, cure wounds cannot heal 4 hp on one dude and other 4 on another.

Also, it is a variable healing of 1+modifier to 8+modifier depending on luck and is touch range.

Goodberries can be given to people and they can use it themselves. They offer more control on the healing and are consistent 10 per spell slot. They can also be stored.

If you have 2 spell slots left before a long rest, cure wounds is not of any use. But 20 goodberries is 20 "free" out-of-combat healing provided the next day, as and when required. Remember that short rests are useless once you run out of hit die to spend.

I used it a lot on my druid and the party loved it, which is why I recommended it. Of course, to each his own. I just wanted to showcase the various advantages of the spell.

Now need to start to think about my level 4 feat. Debating between 2, medium armor mastery or ritual caster. Caster is multi purpose and rp flair, armor is sure survivability.

Hello, apparently I got added to this game a few weeks ago, but the DM didn't tell me about it. I was wondering why this game kept popping up in my sticky list despite me removing it multiple times.

Now that I'm here, I'll be playing Morty Midsummer, a dwarf fighter. The name is a reference to a show I used to watch: Midsommer Murders. The name, Morty, is a pun on "morte" or death. Morty is an archer. I picture him as a compact version of the Heavy Weapons Guy from Team Fortress 2.

I haven't actually finalized any of my background, and am waiting on the DM to respond.

Re: OOC

Morty Midsommer's Background

My name is Morty Midsommer. My friends and I were attacked by bandits on the road to <city> and left for dead. I woke up a few hours later surrounded by the corpses of my companions, and it was there that I swore to make the murderers pay.

Literally. I have an invoice listing everything the bandits took, and they will pay. In gold or silver or copper. I'm not choosy. We had some very good accounting, and our ledger miraculously survived the onslaught. And by we, I mean me. I'm pretty good with the boring logging and recording and accounting and auditing. Legitimate paperwork is stronger than wizardry among dwarves.

Oh, right. As for my companions (companions, not friends, mind you), well... Iason was a bastard (in both senses of the word) who beat, er... used to beat his now single and very... distraught wife. I should pay Trinidad and a visit when I get back. She needs to know what happened, and how she no longer has to worry about their unborn child potentially having Midsommer features.

William was an idiot who somehow managed to make it to his fifties. Back home, they said that William was blessed by <dwarf deity of death/luck>, praise be upon him/her. His sister (who got all the brains in the family) will probably want to know what became of him, and may or may not need comforting. Kimberley is said to be good at comforting... people who have lost friends.

And Zacharias... Ah, he was the only decent man in our caravan. He was there for me when I had no one. He was a paragon of dwarvenkind. I owed him my life, and more importantly, I owed him money. Past tense. Zacharias was bad at keeping track of things, let alone accounting, so I no longer owe anyone anything.

So, yeah. I need to track down those people who robbed us. And make them pay. I accept gold, electrum, and silver. And platinum and copper, too. I'm not choosy. Or maybe even deeds and bonds, and maybe even property.

Ok, need some clarification on feats. I have been reading through the OOC thread and there was talk of feats at levels 1, 4, 7, 10... and 1, 4, 8, 12...

Or is it just at the normal ASI levels but we get both a feat and ASI, but not at level 1?

What sources are allowed for feats?

Thanks

Re: OOC

Well, I would be remiss to not pitch some solution to deal with the feats with stat boosts.

In an attempt to determine if a +1 stat boost was about half of a feat, I came across this thread: https://www.enworld.org/thread...eat-category.509331/

So, I propose one of these "half-feats" at levels 2,4,6,8, etc. None of them have stat increases, some have been split or modified, and others have been left alone because they are not great.
