In reply to The Force (msg # 109):

Crouching down at the entrance the cave Anders says "Well that will not help in anyway. Lets follow the river canyon downstream and see if any settlements are using the river. Hopefully we might find something more suitable along the way and at least it will put some more distance between us and the troopers on that shuttle."

Xyklo brings up the rear. His attention still diverted by the prospect of an assault from those who came in the Raptor, after a few minutes he slips the headphones across one antenna and begins to hum along to a light tune.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

The rebels return to the river, and follow it. Heading Downstream is easy. The ground is relatively flat, and it's straighter than the winding Way they followed inside the maze. Nevertheless, the walk is still stressful. The rebels hustle along, unable to stop themselves from glancing around for possible Ambush sites.

You hear something. A loud whine of a repulsorlift engine, echoed many times. It's hard to tell where it's coming from, or if it's getting closer based on its volume. The stone formations make telling the direction of the sound difficult.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Forim looks around, jumping at the sounds of the repulsors.  Forim had hoped his ploy in the asteroid belt would go unnoticed for longer, or that their more dangerous approach to the planet would prevent them from locating the crashed pods so quickly.  But, that was life.

Rembmering the scanner, he pulls it out and quickly hooks it up to the datapad.  He does a quick sensor ping and finds something!

ooc:

12:39, Today: Forim Luk rolled no successes using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1P 1A 1d 1s.  Rolling Perception.
12:39, Today: Forim Luk rolled 1 success, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2A.  init.
12:41, Today: Forim Luk rolled 1 success, 3 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3A 2d.  Rolling Computers - scanner.

Using advantages to get more range out of it, so we have more time to prepare...

The scanner detects several fast moving small objects, probably vehicles. They are moving as a group, weaving in and out of the rocks of the maze. Their movements appear purposeful but undirected. Then they arrive at the canyon in which the river runs. Soon they will be upon you.

Looking left and right and then up Anders suggests something "Our best bet maybe up." He points up with his finger. "The river has made the canyon walls slightly easier to climb. Other wise they will run us down for sure."

He looks for his first hand hold and begins to scamper up the wall.

Anders Flown rolled 1 failure, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1D 1C 2A.  Climb.

Advantage can be a boost to anyone else who wants to try.

Realising he has little chance to make it up the wall Anders makes for the rocks at the bend in the river and uses them for cover.

Forim looks at the cliff face, then shakes his head - that is not going to happen.

Instead he looks around for cover to try to hide from the ship, and preps his blaster for the inevitable fight.

Xyklo makes a half arsed attempt to hide. He's more bothered about springing an ambush on the approaching craft. Slinging his rifle under one shoulder, he clicks and whirs in time to a Wookiee drum rhythm, and aims down the canyon valley.

OOC: 19:19, Today: Xyklo Voozul rolled 1 failure, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 4A 2D ((5(A), 6(A), 1(A), 3(A), 3(D), 5(D))).

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Forim scans the flat terrain and says "Everything looks different down here, and landing a hover tank is different then landing a speeder bike, which is even more different then a spacecraft.

That said, all the possible options have a blind spot in water.  Its murky and just deep enough that a few of us might be able to hide.  That stream passes right in the middle of the canyon, so I should be close to where they land...
"  Unsure if Kraken can breath underwater, he doesnt order him to follow.

With that, he makes his way for the stream putting his blaster into the collar of his flight suit.  He then submerges himself by picking up a heavy rock and putting it on his stomach.  His flight suit keeps the water away from his mouth and provides him with the oxygen needed.

19:30, Today: Forim Luk rolled 1 failure, 2 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1P 3A 3d.  Rolling Planetary.
19:30, Today: Forim Luk rolled no successes, 2 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3P 1A 3d.  Rolling Space remove 2 setback dice.

Failure on both checks, however I am going to use the advantages on both checks to have the possible spots all be near the river, keeping it just murky enough to hide us at depth.

They still might land 100m away from where we hide, but if they park near where we are hiding, then yay.

In reply to Forim Luk (msg # 124):

Kraken nods, agreeing and looks for a good place to hide his backpack.  Looking for a bush he could dig under, Kraken scratches out a hole by the wall and leaves his electronics in the hole, pushing dirt, leaves or anything else to hide it for now.

Moving to the middle of the stream, Kraken submerges in the water, wiggling in the mud, trying to hide as best as he could.

OOC:
Forgot I could breath underwater.  ;)

Xyklo
Anders
Scout Captain
Forim
Caddy

From the north part of the canyon, you can hear the sound engines.  It is the high-pitched whine of repulsorlift engines, and coming from several sources.  Soon and their sources were into view.  Speeder bikes, with Stormtroopers in scout armor riding them.

Three troopers lead the lance, while three more bring up the rear.  The first three all appear the same.  The one in the center at the rear of the formation is wearing scout armor, except for a vertical red stripe on each of his shoulder plates.  This must be their captain.

Their speeder bikes are moving at only a fraction of the speed that their powerful engines can handle.  Still, there clearly moving at least 60 kilometers an hour, which seems very fast when they are bearing down on you.

As the troops close with you, they notice some of you in cover and taking positions.  Apparently this is all they need to see.  They race forward until they are only a few dozen meters away, and began firing from Medium range.  The speeder bikes begin spouting high powered blaster bolts from their forward-mounted repeating blasters.

Anders is the most obvious target.  Hiding behind a few small rocks at the river's edge, he doesn't have much cover.

A torrent of blaster fire surrounds him, throwing up molten sand and chips of rock, forcing him up from his cover.  Then a blaster bolt strikes him with such heat that it tears through his armor.

The Force rolled 1 success, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3a 2d 1s.  Gunnery: repeating blasters.
12 Damage pre-soak. Pierce 1: reduces Soak by 1.
Anders is forced away from his cover and is currently out in the open.

The imperials hardly slow.  At this speed, they will race by the rebels and pass them in moments.  At the moment, the storm troopers are head on creating an excellent shot with blaster bolts.  If the rebels wait till they get closer, they will have only a split second to shoot at a sidelong target.

You may choose to shoot at the Stormtroopers while they are at Medium range at no penalty.  Alternately, you can choose to shoot at them while they are at Short range, but you will have one Setback.

Nearly loosing his footing and doubling over when the bolts hit him Anders never the less returns fire at the Captain.

He also takes a couple of steps and makes a leap into the better cover the rest of the team are behind.

Anders Flown rolled 3 successes, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2d 2a 3p.  Attack Captain.

Damage = 10
Advantage recover 1 strain
Take two strain to preform a second maneuver and jump into the cover the others are behind on the bend in the river.

Xyklo chirps happily and sprays bolts among the speeders as soon as he sees them. To his dismay most of the lasers skim harmlessly by. He now wears an expression such as that of a small boy who's ice cream has fallen on the floor.
He doesn't even manage to curse.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Caddy, still in cover, waited as they approached.  She didn't have a rifle but the pistol was a good one and so she steadied herself on the rocks around her, aimed as they approached.

If I shoot the captain's speeder, he'll go down, possibly die in the confines of the canyon if he hits the wall, disrupt the formation, and possibly send the rest into disarray.  Now.  What bit of the bike do I shoot?   Caddy was no mechanic and stress of picking a spot had her mind spinning, but she finally settles on a stabiliser to the rear of the Captain's foot....

Adjusting, she continued aiming as they approached despite the intense desire to pull the trigger, and then fired just past 'apex' and at the shortest distance to the back of the captain's bike....

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Xyklo's bolts hit home and one of the scout troopers falls off his speeder. The bike goes wild, flying off and slamming into a rock wall and exploding.

The scout captain sustains a blast to the arm. His armour reduces the injury somewhat, but a momentary jarring of his flight path shows that it hurt.

The scout captain draws his blaster pistol and fires. Anders manages to duck and avoid the blasts, but only by the skin of his teeth.

(1 setback to Anders' next action)

Caddy blasts the captain's speeder bike as it whips by. Although a military vehicle, it is lightly armoured for better speed and maneuverability. It cannot shrug off even small arms fire. It spews smoke and the captain struggles to keep it flying straight. Fortunately, he manages to avoid slamming into anything solid.

In reply to The Force (msg # 131):

Breathing raggedly, underwater, Kraken watched through the murky water as the bikers got closer.  Crouching, Kraken waits for the last biker to come close before jumping up towards the Stormtooper.  Knocking his knee against something as he jumped, Kraken knew it would bruise, but that was small in comparison to the life and death struggle they were currently doing.

Jumping behind the storm trooper, Kraken wrapped his hands around the Trooper's neck and chest and wrenched to the left, trying to throw the Trooper to the side, acquiring a much needed vehicle.

OOC:

Forim pulls his blaster out, and aims up, seeing the shadows of the speeders moving toward them at fast speed.  The scope on his blaster automatically adjusts for the refraction of the water, allow him to have an easier shot.  Just as the lead bike gets into range, he squeezes the trigger.

The shot lands true!  Forim lets out a whoop, that no one hears, as he hits the more un-protected underbelly of the leader's speeder bike.  Ghouts of flame shoot out causing the bike to spin wildly.
