M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Having finally gotten at least part of his crew down safely he breaths a sigh of relief.  Looking out the window port for the other pod he says "Thank you Xyklo.  Not quite good enough though, but I suppose it could have been worse." still beating himself up for the combat above.

He flinches slightly as the pod comes a bit too close to their pod, Forim seeing Caddy white knuckling the stick for the split second it goes by before slamming into the ground.

Relaxing into his chair he says "Looks like they are down safe too.  They landed a bit harder then we did, but as long as everyone was strapped in there should be no injuries."

"Anyone hurt or damaged?" he asks the group as he goes to check the survival pack on the pod.

Xyklo grins at the Duros as he comes back from the pilots chair.
"We are here, and we're alive. Thats good enough for me.

Permission to take a covering position for teams exit skipper?"
he asks with one hand on the door.

Slipping quietly out of the grounded pod, Xyklo skips outside his rifle at his right shoulder following his gaze. A quick scan of the local cover is all the time he wants out in the open before dropping into some nearby brush.

The Escape pods hurtle closer and closer to the planet's surface. Their pilots Steely nerves are the only thing stopping them from hammering the button to fire the Retro Rockets. They carefully adjust the angle of the incoming pods.  At the last moment, Forim hammers the button. In the other pod, Caddenra has been watching the lead pod, Sweating Bullets the whole time. When she sees the spark of the Rockets firing, she hammers the button in her pod.

Both pods jerk in the air as they begin slowing down suddenly. After only a few moments, parachutes are deployed to slow the craft further. The G forces on the passengers in the pods are immense. You grip your restraints and try to keep your head from whipping back and forth.

resilience check 1d 1c. Use any bonuses or penalties accrued from the Discipline check earlier. Any net Failures represent strain. Boost die earned with advantages can be spent immediately to try to remove strain on yourself or others. Any net Despair are damage.

The pods land hard. Through the porthole it originally looked as though you were going to crash into the craggy mass of stone buttes. Instead, you land on the flat, Sandy Earth above the escarpment.

Woozily, Alpha Team gets out of the pods. You count yourselves up and assess your condition. You also look around. You are in a clay covered field South of what looks like a vast, flat Badlands. South of the escarpment is a network of stone buttes, between which wind shady trails.

Can I recover a strain and pass a boost die with those two adv's?

You emerge from the crash, shaky but alive. Xyklo seeks to vanish into the brush, but is thwarted when he finds nothing growing higher than his ankles, and a few strands at a time at that. All around you is trackless wasteland. Dust and sand blow in the winds.

Directly to the south is a rough, rocky slope. In some places you can see it is steep, while in others the piled rocks make it more of a precipitous incline.

You examine the maps produced by the escape pods' sensors.

Kraken felt the sweat roll down his back from the stressful time aboard the ship from the intense ship to ship battle and near astroid misses.  Looking about, Kraken was glad it wasn't a frozen wasteland, not that sand and sun was much better.

Alive and landing well put some spring back into kraken's step, although he was glad they had not landed in swamp or water.  Looking about Kraken pulls out his datapad, tring to determine where they were and where the closest village, city and capital might be. "Good landing, could have been much, much worse." he mutters to Forim.

OOC:
'Kraken' rolled no successes, 3 advantages.  Resilience check   (Heal Strain)
'Kraken' rolled 2 successes, 4 advantages.  knowledge Outer Rim - World Lore ??

not really what I had in mind, but fine. No problem.

Kraken, something of an expert in fluidic geography, takes a look at the geography to the South. The Rocky buttes are clearly the sign of water eroding away the soft sand and clay, leaving Stone Towers in their place. It is likely much cooler and wetter down there. There could be small caves and crevices, worn away by water flowing underground until it exposed weaknesses in the Stone.

Looking about, judging the geography Kraken nods towards the mountains, "Might have a better chance of survival if we head towards those buttes.  Probably find water and caves for shelter until we get a plan together." he offers to the group.

Had the landing really been that bad?  The two were clearly still shocked and so Caddy popped her restraints and struggled out of them before making her way to the hatch which, after checking the atmo, cracked too.  He pod opened and she looked quickly to see if she could see the other pod and hopefully signs of movement there.  "You guys ok?"

Traversing the Rocky slope is rough. You're never short of handholds, as the stones jut up everywhere. The soft earth and clay make it hard to be sure of any of them, though.

Working as a team might help a bit.
If two people tie themselves together with ropes, they can make assisted checks. Athletics 1d 1s

In reply to Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu (msg # 21):

"Yes...yes... I seem to still have all my limbs. Lets get out of this thing and assess if we are in any imminent danger."

Anders climbs out after Caddy and stops on the top of the pod for a second. He places his hand on top of his head to shield his eyes as he scans the surrounding terrain. He is dressed in his standard outfit of black boots shined to a mirror finish, black trousers with red piping down the side, white shirt and a vest under a long duster coat. A heavy blaster pistol is partially hidden in its cross draw underarm holster, the other drop leg holster is noticeably absent of any blaster pistol.

He crouches down while still on top of the pod to address the diplomat. "I see some cliffs off to the distance that will probably give us some shelter or at the very least shade while we find the others. I have lost my pack and it would seem one of my blasters in the rush to leave the ship so that's most of my equipment, but I have food and water for the short term. Dose that sound like a suitable plan ?"

Anders climbs off the pod and pulls up a scarf from his neck to cover his mouth and nose as he lowers his googles. A thought then comes to him "Do these pods come with a survival pack ?"

2 Strain net?

The seat restraints, built for organics, were fairly loose over Roger's chassis, allowing him to bounce and jostle in the landing.  It takes a moment, but the droid emerges from the pod, his antennae bent at odd angles.  He reaches back, taking his blaster to hand, and scans their surroundings.

The escape pods are supposed to have  gear sufficient to help a resourceful survivor last until rescue arrives. However, someone at some point in the past seems to have looted them. The Survival gear boxes are empty except for a few sad bandages and alcohol swabs.

Without a break in his paranoid scanning of the horizons, Xyklo approaches the edges of the rocky slope down.
"Ok are we good with Krakens call. This place looks dry, and exposed. It's making my carahide itch.
If everyone is unhurt could we set a rope rely and make our way down?
Pretty sure it's only going to get harder if someone starts shooting at us...."

Caddy looked to Anders (who'd finally responded) with some relief, "Sure.  That sounds great."  And then, "I assume so."  when they find that the kits have been depleted by some unscrupulous individual, she sighs but says no more on that, "Time to move then."

[OOC:  Just to confirm.  We landed not-far-apart - so finding each other isn't an issue :)   Also, guys... can we please 'catch up' and all talk to each other? :-)]

Forim says "Looks like our survival packs are a bust." Forim says to his group.

Without tools, it would be hard to pull any useful component out, but he wanted to give it a try.

The life-form sensor was what he was aiming to pull out.  It was a compact sensor after all.  He would be able to get the raw data on a datapad.  They would have to write a program to interpret it, but hopefully he could take the component in short order using his vibroknife.

A spark shoots up the conductive material zapping Forim and causing him to drop the knife.  This reminds him to shut down main power before continuing.

10:06, Today: Forim Luk rolled 1 success, 2 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1P 2A 1C 2D.  Rolling Mechanics.
Taking threats as strain.
Let me know what I can pull out of the ship in short order, doesnt have to be the life-form sensor, but you can get handheld versions of those so I was hoping...

His job done, he steps outside of the ship to see that Caddy's group has arrived at his pod.

Kraken checks their pod, looking for any radio's, survival gear, blankets or anything that might be useful in suriviing out there for prolonged periods.  Electronics were the main thought Kraken considered, but he wasn't an escape pod survivalist at heart, so not sure what this pod might contain.

Seeing the others rejoin them, Kraken nods, messing with the wiring of the pod, "Glad to see you guys are still alive.  That was damn close.  Too close for my liking."

OOC:
'Kraken' rolled 3 successes.  Computer - Spare parts in the Pods.
(GM, if it doesn't apply for spare electronic patrs, I'll use to remove any electronic signature linking the pods to our ship.
Figured to try and see if I could salvage anything that might be useful.
If the Empire finds the pods, I don't want them to know someone survived the crash.  That'd ruin our whole plan of getting the ship blown up.
Do the pods have any obvious signature or painted name on them indicating the ship they came from?
