Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

The lead bike's stabilizer bursts into flame, causing the bike to careen out of control. It slams into the rock walls, carrying the pilot with it. He hits hard as well, and collapses limply on the ground. He lies at an unnatural angle and is still.

Updated Initiative:

Speeder Bike Squad 3/5
Scout on the ground 1/1
Xyklo
Anders
Kraken
Scout Captain
Forim
Caddy

The scout troopers see Kraken take control of one of their colleages' bikes. They continue to drive sidelong with Kraken, bracketing him on either side. They draw pistols and fire at him as they race down the canyon.

The Force rolled 1 success, 1 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2p 1a 2s.  Scout troopers RL.
7 Damage pre-soak. 1 Setback to Kraken's next action.

Meanwhile, the trooper on the ground reorients himself after his crash. He glances around, trying to find some cover. He runs towards the hill, then realizes that it is the position of several Rebels. He draws his pistol and fires as he runs. A bolt hits Caddy in the upper back.

The Force rolled 1 success, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3a 1s 2s.  Scout trooper RL.
7 Damage pre-soak. 1 Setback to Caddy's next action.

With a face full of dust and a mouthful of dirt Anders tried to get a bead on the scout that was firing into their position. There was a lot movement, incoming fire and shouts from the rest of the team to distract him, but then a flash of white against the brown of the sand directed his shot.

Looking around he tried to get a handle on the battle, what was happening, where everyone was both his own team members and the enemy. He winced as he moved slightly and aggravated his wound.

Anders Flown rolled 1 success, 5 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2a 3b 1d 1s 1b.  Attack Scout on the ground.

Dam = 8
Crit = 85 Winded: Until the end of the encounter the target cannot voluntarily suffer strain to activate any abilities or gain additional maneuvers.

Crying out as the shot from the scout on the ground slices across her shoulder only to see him taken out by Anders, she considers.   What can she do?   She isn't a front line fighter.  She needs the others to back her up!  Doing what she can though she points, moves once again to cover, takes aim on the captain's bike, waits for him to make a second pass and once again, fires at the apex.

Xyklo spins as the bikes hurtle past, their backdraft sending a fine spray of water over his longcoat. His grin at seeing the Nauto jump on to one of the bikes slides off as the other two catch him in a crossfire. Aiming he sprays shots across their backs, hitting both troopers painfully.

Xyklo giggles into the comlink.

As the troopers come in Roger stands up, his deep programming surfacing as he initiates Attack Pattern Enth.  "Republic Scum" comes out of his vocalizer as he walks directly toward the enemy firing his blaster at the closest moving trooper.

The bolts land home, slamming into the troopers exposed back.  Unfortunatly, his visual processors did not note the change in terrain as he falls to the ground his blaster going off as he hits the ground, killing a second trooper mostly by accident.

Turning the bike, Kraken aims the forward repeating Blaster at the Captain, shouting, "Surrender, or prepare to be obliterated.  You are outnumbered and outgunned Captain."

Kraken wasn't sure about the others stance on taking prisoners, but Kraken felt more intel would be crucial for their success.  Preparing to fire, Kraken takes aim, setting the blaster to stun ....

OOC:
We could use some intel / Info about the area.  Capture him and we can interrogate him.

GM: What would be the difficulty and Skill to convince him to surrender?  Negotiation/Deception/Coercion?
I'll delay my action and shot if he doesn't surrender.  I'm not a talker, I'll let others try.
Not sure if I can set the blaster to stun.  If I can't ignore the comment.  ;)

... No time for talking ...

[Private to GM:

With the remaining members of the speeder-squad almost 'melting' away around the Captain, it certainly did provide an opportunity even if Kraken has possibly been a little more forceful that Caddy might have liked.   He'd called out though so it was time for her to make things happen, "Now now."  She straightens from her 'hiding' spot, "No need to take things to the extreme."  She gives Kraken a smile that is all for the Captain's benefit.   "Captain.   We came her peacefully and were forced to defend ourselves.   We are not here to kill you or indeed your men.   My Nautolan friend here is however correct."  Was she threatening him?  "We do now hold the upper hand.  But...."  And here's the bone, "You still hold a number of aces."  Well, aces may be overstating it, but she was hoping to alter his perception of the situation and to make him feel that he actually did have a chance, "So why don't you holster your weapons and let's talk constructively like civilised individuals and we can both leave this place with something positive?"

[08:23, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled 2 successes, 3 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1A 2P 1B.  Talk to the Captain.

I've not rolled any bonuses for the situation though I'd assume he'd understand how dangerous the situation is - possibly a Boost?  Though it may also apply a Setback given the guns still pointed at him.
]

She waits to see if he responds to her speech before adding, deliberately choosing requests that would not obviously be a betrayal of responsibility or trust (yet).  "You could, for example, tell us how far it is till the nearest town.  We're short on food and water.  What that town is called and what the best path tis to get there?   And in exchange, we could look to stabilise your men, give them first aid, and make sure you bring them home to their families and friends - you'd be a hero."

[08:31, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled no successes, 4 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3a.  First Aid.

I've not rolled difficulty as I don't know what it is to provide cursory analysis but assuming I get 1B - noticing someone in need - and 2B to pass of a boost if possible]

If he responds to that, she'll motion for one of her team to begin taking a look at the wounded men and seeing what can be done for them.   There's nothing she could obviously do, but she does point out someone who is still moving and could do with their help.  "They'll thank you for that, Captain."

She smiles brightly again, Now for something more indepth given I've shown you the carrot "So where are you and your team based?  And why were you sent out this way with guns blazing?   It seems awful strange given that we are survivors of a crashed space vessel."   Time to sing....

[08:37, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled 4 successes, 2 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1A 2P 2B.  Discussion about Base.  +1B for previous success.   No difficulty added.  I've used Charm but this could as easily be negotiation as my rolls are the same.]]

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Kraken attempts to intimidate the captain into surrendering. He doesn't seem to be too stymied, drawing his pistol and aiming it at the rebel on the speeder bike. He fires, striking Kraken in the leg. then Forim shoots him.
7 damage presoak.

scout Captain goes down with a smoking hole in his faceplate. His Speeder bike goes out of control and slams into a rock wall, badly damaging the stabilizer. All the Stormtroopers have been defeated.

The rebels pick themselves up and dust themselves off after the battle. Most of the speeder bikes are too badly damaged to be used. Krakens Speeder bike is still intact. The Rebels also find that the storm troopers were carrying Blaster pistols that have not been modified to require biometric unlocking. The rebels can freely use these Blaster pistols.

Stormtroopers have comlinks inside their helmets. Surely they must have sent a message to the other Imperials. The rebels presence on the planet is now confirmed. You are being hunted.

Caddy had, quite literally, been about to speak out... only for Forim to take the headshot.   Sighing, she stood and up and gingerly dusted herself off before trying to see to her own wound though it's pretty much impossible to do this at the angle.

Giving it up for a bad idea she turns to the others, "We need to keep moving - they must surely have comm'd ahead of engaging.  Gather what you can.   If you can salvage a working comm link, there may even be a chance I could delay them for a bit.   I assume none of us would fit their armour?"

Forim says "Yes Mam" having only heard some of Caddy's previous speech.  I wonder if I interrupted her trying to con the leader onto our side after killing his whole squad he thinks to himself.. and heads toward the least damaged speeder bike.  With some quick fixes he is able to get it working with the B1 battle droid, or at least the repulsors for now.  They can pull it along with them to float one or two of the crew members that cant hack the heat, like himself for example.

ooc: 13:54, Today: Forim Luk rolled 1 success using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2P 1A 2D.  Rolling Mechanics with Roger.

If that is enough to get some engine power working for a "jogging" speed too, let me know and I'll fly it!

13:58, Today: Forim Luk rolled 2 successes, 1 advantage using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2A.  recover strain.

Finally standing up Anders begins to search the bodies for intel or anything else that might be useful, food, water or medical supplies. He also takes one of the pistols, making sure to get the least worn one that was still in good shape.

He tries to work as fast as he can now that they would differently be pursued, it was a shame but it looked like the mission was blown and they now would have to work to find transport so they could leave as soon as possible.

The Scout Troopers are carrying some ration packs. They are unappetizing but they keep very well and are guaranteed to sustain life. They are also carrying water canteens. Each of them is also carrying a vibroblade.

Caddenra finds a military-grade commlink on the Scout leaders belt. This is an odd piece of equipment for a stormtrooper to have, as they all have military grade comlinks built into their helmets. The only explanation is that he was given this comlink to stay in touch with somebody who did not have the Stormtrooper comlink frequency.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Considering what he knew of Speeder Bikes, Kraken dismounted the Bike and began to look it over, taking out this tool kit and disabling the tracking device on the bike.

"Forim, I found the tracking device on this one.  We should put the tracking devices in a wompa cave ... or whatever goes for dangerous critters in this place.  If they want to investigate, they'll have to put themselves in danger." he offers.

Looking over the other speeder bikes, Kraken checks them all over to see if he could salvage another bike for the group.  Taking a blaster pistol and holster from one of the troopers he equips it himself glad to finally have a firearm.   Taking the troopers other gear, he stashes it on the bike he had acquired.

OOC:
'Kraken' rolled 3 successes, 2 advantages, 1 triumph.  Computers - speeder bike (knowledge).
**Used Computers verse Mechanics as a Tracking Device is electronic in nature.  I can roll Mechanics, using Computers to give me a boots if you prefer.**
2 additional Successes to remove additional Tracking Devices on other bikes.
2 advantage = uncover additional information about the speeder bike.
Triumph = add Difficulty to track the bikes.

Kraken' rolled 6 successes, 1 advantageMechanics - Checking the Speeder Bikes.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Caddy will grab the captain's canteen, his rations, vibro-knife and his blaster before spotting the odd commlink.   "Hmm.   Maybe our captain wasn't as upright as we'd like to believe?   Roger, and chance you could monitor the frequency set on this link.  Tell me if there is anything encoded on the frequency and alert me if anyone uses it please?"  She'll hold the comm out to the droid for him to examine but intends hanging onto it in case she can use it to reply.

"Can you also monitor the troopers local frequency - you can get it from the helmets comm link - to see if they have been notified and if there is any comm chatter from their side that will allow us to avoid their scouting parties, please?"

Caddy doesn't comment on Anders' suggestion that the mission is a failure.  She'll make that call if she needs to.   For now, they had jobs to do and if she needed to kick him to get him to try on one of the suits of armour, she would!

Then as Kraken finds the tracking device, "Why not make it mobile?   Wrap it up in a piece of meat and toss it to those scavenger birds."  The birds she'd identified earlier.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Kraken looks the damaged bikes over and assesses that it would be possible to put together at least one functioning speeder bike from the wrecks. However, doing so would take hours of work, possibly days, using a proper mechanics shop.

He does manage to collect the comm rebroadcaster in the captain's speeder bike. This fist-sized piece of gear sends out a signal to other configured devices, allowing superior officers to monitor their squads' movements in real-time. It carries its own power supply that lasts for a day or so.

Slicing into the Stormtrooper's frequency will be fairly easy with their helmet-comm available. Stormtrooper policy is to cycle the frequency; sooner or later, you will lose the advantage.

2D 2b Computers to slice the Stormtrooper comms.

Now that the Rebels know they are being hunted, they must move. Where to go?

"We can listen in for a day, maybe more.  Instead of running down the canyon, someone should fly up, look for a good place to hide out." he offers, slipping off the bike, letting a scout or someone better versed in bike use and scouting to use the bike.

Kraken offers the comms to Caddy, then Forim, letting whomever wanted to listen to the Stormtroopers chatter, do so.

"We need to find a good place to hide up, I could use some rest.  I think we all could, we all got bruised a bit in this last fight and the rough landing."

The droid takes the com link, "Roger roger, I'll let you know if I hear anything.". He picks I up one of the scout trooper helmets, noting all the pertinent settings on the comms, and editing methods, then hangs it off his power pack.  He also picks up a couple extra blaster power packs from the body.

He moves over to the wrecked bikes giving them a once-over and identifying an auxiliary power port and plugs into it siphoning off some power before the group continues on.  He watches Kraken lift into the air and awaits the intel.

Thus far, no other Imperial scouts are visible in the maze. They are either moving carefully and using cover, or are waiting for intel from their speeder bike squad back at their shuttle.

Kraken does see signs of life, however. To the south, beyond the maze, he sees smoke rising. It is a single column of smoke, small but steady.

Meanwhile, Roger slices into the enemy comms. He hears repeated requests for updates on current status.
