Mission 1: Red Jester

Sawalim attempt to scan the vessel in orbit with the sensor array, and she attempts to do it surreptitiously. After a few exploratory attempts, it becomes clear that there's no way to mask the attempt; she doesn't get any useful readouts of the ship, and gets a bit stressed out doing it. However, some other useful bit of information streams in...

In regards to landing, Sawalim ponders for a moment. "I think, if we land outside, we can't have the doors shut on us if the theft is noticed. We'll probably be first on any list of suspects, sure, but they won't have any hard stop to an escape. I doubt anybody will pay much attention to us either way."

For the Computers scan, got 1 failure, 1 threat (strain), and 1 triumph, which I'm throwing into your court. I obviously didn't succeed in scanning the ship, but maybe I picked up something else?

Sawalim detects a counter-scan triggered by her sensor sweep. She manages to shut down her own scan before it is detected. Probably the Imp capital ship didn't detect her.

Reviewing the sensor logs on the way down to the planet, she can see at least some starfighter activity around the ship. This rules out certain classes of vessel, such as the Carrack-class cruiser.

The landing field is privately owned by a rodian named Etsnu. He arrives at your ship as you open the landing ramp.

, he recites in his buzzing voice.

The landing field is not exclusive to starships. You can see two Skyhoppers and an airspeeder on the field, as well as an old G9 Rigger that looks as though it's been there for months. A tall wind-wall surrounds the field, protecting it from most of the desert winds.

Forim responds in the same language, exaggerating the last word with some sarcasm.  He translates for the group "20 credits a day, we are here a week, right boss" he says looking at Onyx, but looking for guidance from anyone.  He holds out his hand for the credits as if to pass them on, but also indicating the he has no credits to his team

Sawalim steps forward. "No. The security here doesn't look impressive enough for that, and we'd be happy to take our business outside the walls if it looks too expensive. We will pay 10 credits per day, on that day - no need to pay in advance, since there doesn't appear to be a lack of space here." She offers up ten credits.

The rodian buzzes, clicks, hums, and then nods. He accepts the proferred credits, makes a note on a pad, and walks away.

You enter the sleepy town of Mos Espa. A wide variety of different people are here. Were you less diverse yourselves you might stand out. Scrounge finds the desert air agreeably familiar, while Sawalim finds her large eyes being stung by blowing sand.

Some might assume ithorians would find a desert stressful, lacking as they do in substantial plant life. However Sawalim knows that a desert can be a healthy ecosystem as well. The plants that do live here are small but hardy. A polluted landscape is far more noxious to her than a naturally-formed desert.

Nevertheless, it is awfully hot.

Most of the buildings are squat, square things with windows covered by cloth or coloured glass. One building, a general store, is made mostly from plasteel. Down the street you can see the cantina, situated conveniently to the landing area.

Over the roofs of the small buildings, several blocks away, you can see a compound. A wall surrounds a large structure. It must be your target.

Ikki shields his eyes from the dual suns with his hands, giving very little in terms off protection but after being on the ship for so long. It was blinding. Looking around there wasn't much to look at but at least he had his feet on the ground and sun on his face. Actually he could do with a little less sun now.

Even swapping out his heavy jacket for a more heavy duster did very little to prevent him from feeling like he was cooking. Looking at his teammates he asked the first question "Where do you wanna start?"

Pointing at the Compound, he speaks up "I'll scout out that area, I won't do anything risky, just using my eyes." He tells them, unless you wanted him to lie or some rough types needing approached. He was more suited to being outside.

Mission 1: Red Jester

Ikki makes his way through the narrow streets, passing through narrow alleys and under canvas awnings. The brief areas of shade make the sun a bit more bearable.

A few blocks over, Ikki finds his destination. The building is the size of a town block. It is surrounded by a thick stone wall about four meters high.

After a quick circuit, Ikki concludes there are two gates in the wall. The one on the East side is wide enough for a groundtruck. Through the metal bars of the gate he can see that the building has a loading bay door on that side of the building. There's a personnel door next to it, as well. One tired-looking Weequay leans against the wall, fanning himself.

The North gate is a bit more ornate. It leads to a set of stairs and a double-door. A Gamorrean and a Gran flank the door, leaning against the wall and sweltering.

Meanwhile, Onyx finds his way to the Cantina. It is recessed into the ground to reduce the temperature of the building. Stepping down the stairs, Onyx enters the dark room.

About a dozen different sentients are present in the room. Most have some sort of drink, and many are eating as well. They sit in ones and twos around the room, their attention on their meals and private conversations.

Mission 1: Red Jester

Ikki chewed his lip as he looked over the compound one more time for a better place to break in from, if they had to. However with both his haste not to catch a eye and the blistering sun he failed to catch any clue where to sneak in from.

Clicking his tongue, he decided to come back another time. He had a basic scout of the area and he didn't want to be a remembered face in the area. Prehaps they could get a truck in there. In fact he didn't even know what they were trying to steal in the first place.

If they were going to steal it, Ikki wanted to secure some evidence of Imperial involvement. The enemy of my enemy wasn't always a friend, but they did make a good scapegoat. With that in mind, he headed off to the Cantina to rejoin the others.

14:21, Today: Ikki Sorlock rolled no successes, 2 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1P 2A 2D with rolls of 2(P), 7(A), 5(A), 3(D), 1(D).  Skulduggery.

Can I use the Advantage to gain some extra insight?

Ikki doesn't immediately spot any weaknesses in the physical layout of the building. It looks quite resilient to direct assault.

He does note that the guards outside don't seem to be wearing any sort of uniform. How do they know who is authorized to enter? Perhaps they simply know one another by sight. Perhaps there is something about Hutt gangsters that might be useful to know.

In the Cantina, Onyx offers a tip to the bartender for a little info. The big Klatoonian pours him a mug of sour, watery ale. He palms the decacred coin and shakes his head despondently.

"Not enough to go around. The moisture farmers can't get enough people, but they don't have any money. Tusken Raiders are attacking farms as close as Goldfield." He jerks his thumb backwards, presumably in the direction of Goldfield.

"Urvel is one of the lucky ones," the bartender reports. He points at a human in a brown robe, seated by himself at a table. "When the attacks got too bad, he sold his farm to Jabba. Even at a tenth of the price, it's worth more than your life is out there."

The bartender goes back to polishing mugs, an endless and thankless task. Onyx suspects that the man has more to offer, but isn't volunteering it. Perhaps a little persuasion would help.

2D for a Social roll. Additional tips will add Boosts.

Forim follows Onyx to the Cantina.  Instead of going to the bartender he got a drink and mingled with the crowed.  Finding the right person to talk to about space pioliting was key in his mind to find common ground before asking the real questions.

Onyx motions to the bartender. I want real work. I don't want this shit you call work. Give me an in with Jabba. Trust me he will thank you.

Can the advantage be that although he won't give me more information he offers me a free drink for the credits I kinda wasted?

He walks off, taking the decacred and leaving the mug of ale.

Twenty-odd years ago, the Boonta Eve podrace had been held hereabouts. People were still talking about it.

One table of four includes two sentients who are part of one of Jabba's crews. The Lendloo Dancer had flown in a Standard week ago with a shipment of *cough* honey. Now their crew were waiting for a cargo to be ready to ship out.

Every real spacer knows it pays to be polite to a Duros. They welcome him to their table and ask if he knows how to play Liar's Cut.

Onyx approaches Forim to quietly inform him of what the bartender said.

Forim smiles and says "What self-respecting spacer doesn't know Liar's Cut! However, I am a bit broke." he says apologetically.  "Do you know anyone offering some work around here for my particular skill set?" he says miming fast moving vehicles.

He deals out the cards and plays the game with the few credits he has left in his pocket.

Form nods to Onyx and says "Meet my other broke friend.  Bit on the tough side, I know.  But he makes for some good muscle.  This is the crew of the Lendloo Dancer.  Friendly guys!" he says with a smile "They are stuck here waiting for their ship to be loaded up with fresh cargo."

While the game plays, he swaps stories of close calls with Inspection agents, and things of the like.

(ooc: Not fishing for more information, just being friendly at this point.)

Onyx leaves seeing that it looks like Forim has a good thing going and he doesn't want to mess it up. Onyx then returns to his seat at the bar. He continues drinking the ale. Savoring the credits he already wasted.

Ikki enters the cantina and allows his eyes to adjust to the dim light. Compared to the dry heat outside, the relative dankness is a blessing. On the way here, he found himself wishing for one of the locals' desert cloaks.

He spots his colleagues here already. One is seated at the bar, and the other is engaged in a game of cards. In case they are attempting to blend in separately, he does not call out or wave to them.

The bar's bouncer is a squat but burly-looking trandoshan. He eyes the young man uncertainly. "[Language unknown: Fiwhi oer ereser on mo t ol, ngwhnt.]"

Ikki sighed with relief as he entered the Cantina. The cloaks looked useful, if he had a penny to his name he'd buy one but fighting Galactic Empires didn't pay the best at the moment. The Scout noticed and promptly looked away from the comrades, he'd do some more scouting and meet back at the ship. He made a mental note to check how they knew each other at the compound. Passwords? Tokens? A certain type of fist bump?

When the Trandoshan spoke to him, Ikki's face was blank as the language went in one ear and out the other. Clearing his parched throat he politely spoke "Sorry, I can only really speak Basic." Holding up one hand in a gesture of apologizing to help his point across.

Forim loses five credits. Just as it is his turn to deal, he notices that one of the shippers is glancing at the door.

"Sithspit, I hope that that beast doesn't come back in today."

"Don't let him hear you call him that," says another, picking up his card-chips and glancing at them.

Another laughs bitterly. "He would take it as a compliment. He wants everyone to call him 'Rancor,' remember?"
