RJ: Mos Espa

The sleepy hamlet of Mos Espa quietly endures the sweltering heat, just as it does every day. The populace is about half human, half other species. A group of jawas walk down the street, chittering to one another. A human male and a ranat sit in the shade, conversing quietly. A felician negotiates the price of a thubu loaf with a sullustan merchant. A gamorrean trundles by you, snorting some sand out of its impressive nose.

You are standing outside the storage area when you see a Jablogian in a dark-coloured imperial uniform marching busily down the street. He seems to be heading towards the shipyard.

Caddy is well dressed in tan shorts, blouse and head scarf along with stylish glasses.  This could possibly be considered 'out of place' but she has always 'stood out' and so doesn't mind a little attention from time to time.   Her pale skin is tinted with appropriate cosmetics (suitably sun-screened) and her pink hair, whilest mostly hidden, does peak out from under the headscarf from time to time.

Spotting the imperial uniformed Jablogian, she motions carefully to the others so that they too spot him.

Ikki eyed over the stylish lass with slight disbelief for a second, the young Sorlock blended in the with the Outer Rim Rabble quite well after spending much time on the move. However if she was drawing attention to herself then that simply meant less eyes on him, which suited him just fine. Catching her motion, his eyes followed to land on the Jablogian in a uniform.

Ikki watched him march towards the shipyard "Someone has something to tell us. Walking around in a uniform in plain daylight." He mutters to the others as he moves his arm around to give the impression of a casual conversation. "I'm going to tail him, let's see whats going on." He told the others his attention, hopefully he could blame the whole mission on the Empire. He still needed to find out how Jabba's men knew each other from others but this had fully grasped his curiosity.

With his ponderous walk, the short & tubby man stomps towards the shipyard. He doesn't look around much, so tailing him is fairly easy.

You reach the shipyard just after him. The rodian steward meets him at the gate.

"Hello, Scuzis. Which one is it?" the jablogian says. The rodian points inward, at your ship, and buzzes.

"Thank you. Won't be long."

The rodian goes back inside his sheltered hut, and the imperial stomps into the yard.

"So, m'dear, how'd you like t'play this?" He smiled at her, as he watched the shipyard out of the corner of his eye.

Ikki gritted his teeth as the Rodian pointed the at the ship and spoke to the Jablogian. If only he knew what he was saying. Reaching into his utility belt and retrieving his comlink as he leaned against the wall to look more casual. With a short buzz of static he patched himself through to Caddy's, speaking into it ++Officer is moving to our ship. Tailing.++ With another short crackle he turned the Comlink off.

Pushing himself off the wall, he flicks his collar up in a small attempt to both protect his neck from the sun and cover more of his face. Moving slowly he weaved inside of different vehicles. He tailed the Jablogian all the way to the ship, who didn't even looked concerned about his surroundings. Once he stopped, Sorlock found a place to hide and watched him carefully.

Ikki follows the imperial over to the ship. The imp takes out a datapad and begins carefully examining the ship's hull near the landing ramp. He types notes into his datapad as he examines.

The imperial uses a portable printer to create a flimsy. He affixes it to the ship's landing gear and has a final look around. Plainly not noticing his young stalker, he sets out from the landing yard again.

Noting the chubby creature's slow walking speed and unhurried pace, Ikki grabs ahold of the flimsy before continuing his tail.

The note is an instruction to the ship's master to attend the Imperial Customs Office within 48 standard hours or before leaving the planet, whichever comes first. It instructs them to bring a full list of crew and passengers as well as a cargo manifest. The location of the office is provided.

The imperial seems to be heading back in that direction now.

Ikki clicked his tongue as he stops tailing the Officer, there would be a better time to steal that when they arrived at the officer. Switching his comlink back on after reading the note as Caddy buzzed through to him ++He wants to see all our crew and cargo before we leave....Might want to make a good impression when you go past. I'm coming back to meet up with you.++ He points out that first impressions were important.

The young spy left sufficient distance between him and the target before walking after him towards his teammates. They'd discuss what to do from there and his plans for making the Imperials take the blame for the heist.

++Have I ever not made a good impressions?++  A rhetorical question of course and she smiles as she looks up at the now approaching Imperial having checked that Jeron is close to by.  Walking quite deliberately towards him, "Oh... just the person I was looking for!   My name Caddy Manitu and we just landed and I wanted to check that all was well with my paperwork, that my dock duties were paid... you know, all the good stuff."  Her voice had changed becoming maybe a little airier, a little softer, as she attempted to quite deliberately charm the officer (or, indeed, make herself a mark should he he be so inclined).  Either would work in this instance and the latter could be dealt with later - after all, Jeron was here for a reason!

[Charm using 1A 2P please.  To ensure his temperament tends towards the positively and is less riled up about whatever misdemeanour he believes we have committed :-)]

He gives a little cough. "Of course, if you would prefer to settle in cash," he says, emphasizing this last word and making a little pause, "There is a pleasant discount available. Yes. Only eighty credits, if paid in cash."

[OOC: Playing on the success she is hoping to garner a better deal where their details are effectively ignored for the sake of the cash and a little time with her.  Their instructions were, after all, to be discreet.  She will, of course, expect him to buy the drinks and, if things pan out, she has her eyes on his datapad as it could lead to discovery of the cargo ships that have landed and the possible description and location of the cargo she is after.]

The jablogian's type is more likely to be a sullustian than a human, but Caddy is the queen of laying it on thick. Without a word, he extends his arm to take hers, and leads her off with his customary waddle.

"You must understand that Mos Espa is hardly akin to Coruscant in culture, but perhaps we can find something suitable."

While the Imperial and Caddy are occupied, the rest of the team have plenty of opportunity to engage in further investigation.

That done, she primly rests her arm on larger man's arm and is lead away from the docks.  "I'm sure you can."  She smiles, "Now, tell me about the docks.  It must be fascinating!  See all the visitors.   You must meet all sorts.  Tell me, tell me... have you met anyone famous?"  A leading conversation point but she hopes now that he's treating her well that he'll relax and speak freely.

Walking fast enough to past the Officer and Caddy, he offered them both a nod of the head. In politeness and in praise to the Temptress for succeeding as he made his way to find the Imperial Office.

Streetwise would be an excellent choice, yes. 1D 1S, 1B for every 10 credits you spend.

Jeron ends up back in the cantina, which has filled up a bit. Locals do not mix with spacers, it seems, but there's plenty of people looking glum and down on their luck.

****

The Imperial office is a building with two offices, one for each of two different services. One is Justice & Grievences, and the other is for Customs & Immigration. There are only a few rooms in each office, at least half of which consists of two reception areas.

The office for Justice is full of people, half of whom are in uniform and half of whom are in desert wear. There is clearly an argument going on between the sides.

The Customs office is comparably empty, with only a few clerks sitting at terminals, working and chatting.

****

Caddanra is treated to a short dissertation on the importance of regulations in a small town with a fluid population. The officer escorts her to an open-air cafe under a cabana, where he orders a pitcher of hubba gourd juice. It costs forty credits, half a day's wages for some people.

Not hiding himself to much he waited at the back of the crowd, carefully listening into the argument to find the source and waiting for a chance.

Politics and Economics are a couple of Caddy's strong suites and while the may not know small-town dynamics, she manages several pertinent questions and keeps the conversation going.  She, of course, thanks the officer for the drink and drinks sparingly and primly, complementing him on his choice.

As opportunity allows, she'll direct the conversation from economics and the laws associated with it towards those who would break the law.  "I'm told that the Jabba visit here from time to time.  I'm sure you have your hands full dealing with them - many a story to tell!"

If he begins talking about the criminal aspects, she'll encourage him in some way to show her something on the tablet - thereby hopefully seeing his access method/code.

[OOC: Yet another charm roll is needed here, but I'm aiming to encourage him to brag about his accomplishments, revel in his work ethic, and hopefully reveal something about the ship and possibly cargo we're after.   I'd suggest the wine might give him a drawback that would apply a blue dice and as the natural flow of the conversation, his ego, and the fact that it is likely few others would listen to him, is heading in the 'right direction', I might suggest this could apply a second blue dice.  While I am drinking sparingly, I am also not overly familiar with wines so this might apply a black die.  :-)  1A 2P 2B 1S + Difficulty. Ikki listens to the argument evolving in the Justice department. The people complaining are all locals, and they are all angry about raiders.

"The Sand People are everywhere! You need to drive them off! What do we pay taxes for? They've driven us off our land!"

The Imperials are having trouble keeping a lid on the situation. The secretary workers keep trying to defer to the senior clerk, a harried-looking woman. She is trying to get people to calm down or at least be quiet, with no success.

Ikki keeps one eye on the Customs office. The clerks inside are determinedly keeping their heads down, focusing on paperwork and filing and avoiding looking in the direction of the other office.

****

The cantina crowd is appreciative of someone bringing a good mood, and pretty soon the spacers are laughing right along. The locals are mostly glum, but they cheer up as he starts buying drinks.

"Money's tight right now," one says. "I had to sell my farm. When that money runs out, I don't know what I'll do." This is a story that several of the locals share.

"The farm I worked at kept being attacked by Tuskens. Mister Heck lost three vaporators and couldn't afford to pay me. Last week a man came to make an offer on the place and he had no choice but to accept."

"Someone came to offer me a job as an exotic dancer," one woman contends hotly. "I've got a degree in agricultural sciences!"

"Enjoy your drinks now. Pretty soon there'll be no water to spare for brewing around here."

Things aren't as rough for the spacers.

"We were contracted to bring in twenty tons of ferrocrete mix. Someone's building something big."

"The captain managed to get out of paying the import tax on some seeds. The customs guy wrote them up as foodstuffs rather than agro imports."

****

The jablogian, Clebdir, glances around before answering. "Well, Jabba doesn't... that is, he has an interest in some of the businesses in town. And has a warehouse here that... stores some of the things he imports. But most of the business is handled by his local lieutenant, Boss Thrumdush. Yes, he insists on being called 'Boss,' how arrogant. I mainly deal with him, when there's... he likes to make certain that Jabba's shipping business goes through smoothly."

Clebdir checks his datapad's chrono and rests it on the table.

Clebdir the customs officer's mouth hangs open a bit. You're not especially certain with jablogians, but you've heard that this is a nonverbal indication of irritation.

"The warehouse is a significant source of revenue for the town. They always pay their taxes on time. Quite a number of locals work there. If I choose to let a little self-importance slide, then it's only because I have the best interests of the community at heart."

It doesn't take a Lorrdian to see that there is more to the story than he is letting on. However, pressing him will be more difficult.

Charm & Negotiation checks with this character have increased to 3D. Deception checks have a setback, for 2D 1S total.

That did surprise her.  Despite all the success she'd been having he chose now to react badly to her comment when the conversation was 'light and playful'?  It seemed a little bit... blunt to her.  Maybe even two sudden?

But pressing him isn't her style or indeed deceiving him isn't her style.   She does however know a considerable amount about politics and economics having been schooled in this as part of her 'apprenticeship' and so she adds, "Oh come now.  Don't be silly!   Anyone knows that tax originating from criminal activities is but a fraction of the overall revenues due to the state."  She'll cite further examples and may even quote from memory of a supporting text - though she makes sure to keep the conversation 'light' and her voice low - this is a conversation between 'just the pair of them' and she doesn't want him to worry that someone might be listening in.

Regardless of whether she successfully debates the point, her aim is to help him unwind, help him speak freely, and help him consume a little more of the wine.

He shook his head at the overall of it though, and turned serious. "Ah, my new friends! It pains me t'hear such tragedies an' hardships. I wish there was more I could do for you! But at least I'm happy t'help you drown away your cares for today!"

The two groups of spacers are discussing the relative degrees of corruption of the local import customs agents. One is simply asserting that a big load of ferrocrete has been shipped in by some unknown client. The other is indicating that a bit of fudging on the forms allowed them to save a lot of money on import taxes.

Jeron surveys the spacers' crowd and finds nothing that seems relevant to their mission. He mentally logs the quartermaster of the unnamed ship MR-14452 as probably smuggling spice.

If the crowd made enough problems for the office, the clerks would have to get involved and leave their office open.

Clearing his throat and changing his voice as best he can, he spoke up over the crowd "I know the difference between a Tusken Raider and a Rodian in robes! I bet Jabba's paying you to keep quiet about them! I bet most of the attacks had multiple tracks as well!" For the good of the people....   She bowed her head, conceding the point to the Imperial officer though a small part of her is quickly considering her options.  The man was clearly sympathetic to the people.  Maybe, instead of undermining him, she could effectively recruit him?  She raises her close, "Well put.  I am pleasantly surprised to find a man who clearly puts the good of the people first...."  After all, so many of the Imperials she knew would have suggested that the Empire was always 'bigger' and that the needs of the Empire would always come first.

She therefore continues on, carefully angling and directing the discussion in such a way as to open him up, to understand him, and to hopefully recruit him to their cause.

Ikki ducks for cover as the crowd turns violent, looks like his few words had set off a bit more than he thought. However with the Shutter descending, it didn't leave him much time to find some evidence to plant or a manifest to forge but he'd have to do.

Barging his way out of the crowd, he pretends to stumble backwards into the customs office. Regaining his 'balance' quickly, he moved over the desks and quickly searched through the desks to find something he could type on or use as a manifest for their ship.

18:13, Today: Ikki Sorlock rolled 2 successes, 2 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1P 2A with rolls of 11(P), 3(A), 2(A).  Perception.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Ikki ducks inside the office before the office worker can finish cranking. The man jumps back, startled, to see someone entering. He turns and flees, leaving the office unoccupied.

Alone at last. Except for the angry mob right outside.

Without trying too hard, Ikki locates a stack of forms. It looks like these are the forms of previous ships. They are already stamped with a verifying emblem.

He also spies a safe with a transparisteel door: inside it, there are a number of official-looking pads, as well as an electro-stamp. With it, it would be easy to 'officially verify' virtually any customs-related document.

Meanwhile...

The jablogan demurres from discussing politics further and instead begins talking about his speeder. Apparently it has a bantha-leather interior and greel-wood paneling. Then he sees that his dining companion is, perhaps, not terribly interested in such things. He begins talking about the last vacation he took, on the planet Mrlsst. "They have plenty of beaches on Tatooine, but they don't have beach resorts!" he chortles.

Ikki groans as he approaches the safe, attempting to open it and fiddling with the lock a little with very little success. With his terrible attempt at the safe, it looked like he would have to leave it alone and simply hope that the Caddy could sweet talk them through an old one.

Ikki sighed perhaps he could muscle his way through the crowd and find something in the Justice Office. Shifting through the files, he attempted to at least find a similar ship to use.

14:28, Today: Ikki Sorlock rolled 1 failure, 1 threat using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1P 2A 3D with rolls of 10(P), 1(A), 3(A), 6(D), 3(D), 7(D).  Skulduggery.

Jeron idly wondered if the spice was the cargo they were after, but that seemed unlikely. He hung out a bit longer until the credits he had already spent were gone and then said his goodbyes. He left the cantina, looking around. He wasn't sure where exactly his companions would be so he decided to head back towards the ship and see if he saw anything of interest on the way.

As the meal wears on interminably, Caddy puts on a mask of politeness and lets the bragging about money wash over her. Then he stops as his commlink beeps.

He picks it up and puts it to his ear. Caddy can't hear it very clearly, but it sounds like frantic pleading with a background of angry shouting.

The customs officer stands up abruptly and shouts at the restaurant owner that he will have to be back later to pay. The cafe owner nods wearily, and makes no objection.

With that, he excuses himself hurriedly and jogs off down the dusty road.

As Jeron is leaving, he sees a new party heading towards the cantina he has just departed. A kubaz, a klatoonian, and a human are following behind a tremendous Gammorrean, laughing at his grunts sycophantically. The big alien stomps down into the cantina and bellows sometime inarticulate.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Caddy consults the reader and finds a very interesting set of correspondences from someone named BT. Most of them are locked behind a separate password, but it seems that the owner hasn't quite gotten around to locking the latest couple yet.

BT: I told you about this weeks ago. You've had ample time to get ready.
Yourself: As I have mentioned repeatedly, I'm not in direct control of that branch. It's requiring extra effort to prepare. Without knowing exactly how long I had to work with, my planning couldn't be as precise as you have come to take for granted.
BT: I imagine you believe you deserve extra compensation. Despite this being very similar to previous operations that have gone smoothly.
Yourself: This is very different. Previous operations were simple conversions, easily handled entirely by paperwork. Now we're discussing an entirely new operation. A new operation that's right on my doorstep.
BT: You expect to renegotiate?
Yourself: My role has expanded. You're expecting me to keep local matters quiet now, not just futz a few forms.
BT: Perhaps you're right. Your performance in your current role has been quite satisfactory. You should stick to that. I may need to bring in someone else to take care of the new role.

The latest reply has not been sent yet. A draft is in the works:

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Caddy quickly read the unencrypted conversation and then paused.   Who was BT?  And what exactly was his and her recently made 'friend's' role in this?  It was all still unclear to her but ultimately she had means to fight out.

Quickly bringing up the keyboard, she finished the message: Yourself (Completed Draft): I already have enough information on the import to disrupt your peaceful operation. If you think I will sit idly to the side and let mess things up, then you've got another thing coming.  I've added to me staff.  I'll be sending someone over to sort things out.  Meet me at Bkessh at sunset* and don't even think about pulling a fast one. (*Or a planet-suitable time)  She then sends the message, waits a moment to confirm that it was delivered, and then deletes it from the message history before closing the messaging software (hopefully preventing the receipt of further messages until it is opened once again!)

[She is being deliberately inflammatory - hoping to see BT arrive at the Cantina.  I'm not sure if a dice roll is necessary here?]

Now for the tricky part, she returns his tablet to where he'd left it and retrieves her own.  How long she'll have with the other tablet is unclear (in fact, she's looking to see if the officer is returning!) but just maybe she can hook up a link to her own tablet to remotely monitor the conversation and ensure further messages are 'managed' (while, of course, giving her access to further scan the tablet for anything else useful.)

[She'll roll computers.  The stakes here are not control but an attempted connection to the device.  A Pairing of sorts.  Caddy's own tablet holds nothing of her past and next to nothing relating to the rebels so should be 'safe enough' for this kind of thing.  If the pairing is successful, she'll step things up but if it fails it should only looking like a simple pairing attempt - possibly the sharing of a phone number etc!   Caddy's computer are 3A and I might suggest a 1 Boost for having the pass-code and maybe 1 setback for the fact that she's nervous.]

After sending her covert message, Caddy finds Ikki heading down the street towards her. He has a handful of forms in his hand; apparently the ship is one step closer to being a ghost in the beaurocracy.

The group head back to find Jeron, still intent on gathering information from the local watering hole. They see him just as he slips back inside the cantina.

Inside, the mood of the crowd has become somewhat subdued. The gamorrean stands in the middle of the room, looking it over. He stomps over to a table. The four occupants of the table stand up hurriedly and back away. The great beast sweeps his meaty arm across it, knocking all plates and dishes off it. Then he sits down. The chair groans under his weight.

The gamorrean is wearing thick bands of leather with protruding spikes around his arms, his wrists, and his neck. Two of his henchmen sit down with him, while the other goes to the bar. The rest of the clientele seem to be trying to stay still. They are trying to watch him without seemingly staring.

On seeing Ikki....

Collecting her things and having failed to connect the other tablet to her's, she collects it too (it would be remiss of her not to take it - someone here might steal it!)  She then heads outside.   "It went well?"

On the way....

"You got our ship's papers?  Well done."  She smiles, "We'll have to see if we can remove any electronic copies too."  She'll explain that she needs to meet someone at sunset at the Cantina and it probably involves the more criminal elements of this affair.

In the Cantina....

Waving down a waitron, she quietly asks, "So who is the Gamorrean?  Someone to avoid?"  She, of course, accepts her drink and ensures that she tips the waitron as she does.

Jeron let out a quiet sigh as things progressed. He took notice when the gamorrean stood up suddenly and began heading their way. Wonderful.

He shifted his leg slightly so he could surreptitiously draw his blaster pistol but keep it hidden under the table. It was set for stun already so he didn't have to try and fiddle with the setting without looking at it, which might have looked awkward or caused him to set it incorrectly. He aimed it under the table at the gamorrean, knowing it would take more than one shot if it came to that. And he didn't intend to start a fight unless he had no choice. He'd try to intimidate them first if Caddy didn't handle it.

Jeron deliberately kept his eyes off of Ikki and kept them glued to Caddy and the thugs staying inside. He smirked slightly as she addressed, and sort of dressed down, the thugs. He wasn't sure if she was going to start a fight with those words, but he stayed at the ready while trying to keep looking relaxed.

The thug outside's conversation changes slightly. "Oh, hello boss. Yes, sir. Okay, it's like this...

"We're getting lunch, and someone starts acting tough, right? Our boss, Rancor that is, decides not to bother, but then they start talking about that Clebdir guy. Isn't that your customs guy?"

He listens for a moment.

"Yeah, okay. Okay, boss, I'll tell him."

The thug rushes inside, where Caddy and Jeron can see him. Ikki glides inconspicuously out of the way, where the thug won't notice him.

The thug hands his commlink to the gamorrean muscle, who glares at him balefully. Nevertheless, he takes it and holds it up to his folded ear.

Rancor the gamorrean listens intently for a moment, and then snorts affirmatively.

He gets up and turns around, knocking the table again. The last pitcher spills, although he pays this no mind. There is an intensity to him now as he glares at Caddy.

Jeron's blaster packed a high-powered whine as it washed over Rancor. The bartender cried 'no blasters!' as the big beast recoiled. His eyes wobbled and he shook his head violently, trying to clear his senses.

Caddendra followed up with a scathing challenge, adding insult to injury. The big beast could barely hear, but it was enough to disconcert him further.

Ikki, for his part, waded into the thugs behind Rancor. He places a firm fist onto one jaw, knocking the human for a loop. The thugs attempted to return with punches of their own, surrounding the small man. Their lack of coordination kept them from fighting effectively, as they shouted contradictory instructions at one another.

Rancor is bulky, but a canny hand-to-hand fighter. He throws a meaty backhand that collides with Jeron again.

Even as this happens, Caddy slaps a stimpatch on Jeron's exposed skin. He feels the chill-itch of bacta working on his wounds immediately, and the numbness of the stimulant drugs kicking his adrenal system into high gear.

Rancor looks irritated at this. He turns away from Jeron. His considerable mass is now aimed towards Caddy.

Meanwhile, Ikki takes on Rancor's gang of thugs. They are energetic but have little skill, relying on their numbers to overwhelm him. This only puts them in each others' way.

Caddy fires her gun into Rancor, who stumbles forward. He collapses on top of her, knocking her flat. His considerable bulk pins her down. From here, she can smell his overripe B.O. and breath smell, and also can see that his eyes are all glossy. Rancor has been knocked out.

3D. Setback or Depends on what you want to do/say to lay such a trail.

Jabba's storehouse is the biggest building in town. The compound is roughly 'L'-shaped: one great building, surrounded by a thick stone wall.

There are two gateways, protected by metal double grate-doors.

The East entrance is the delivery area. The garage door looks large enough to accommodate a groundcar or a speeder, and there is one personnel door as well. Through the gate, you can see a pair of weequay on a slow patrol around the sandy yard.

The north gate allows you to see the front walkway leading up to the double-doors at the front. They are guarded by a gamorrean and a human, leaning against the walls of the building.

The streets around the complex aren't very busy. There are a few bums resting in shady alleys and a few parked speeders. This area is mostly warehouses and low-rent housing.

There's not much happening. A half-dozen guards are on a lazy patrol around the building.
The patrols are slow and irregular. Each pair of guards ambles around, slugthrower carbines carried loosely on shoulder-straps. They seem to prefer staying on the west side, where the building provides shade.

With Ikki wondering and Jeron looking to her for guidance, she needed to make a decision and so she looked at the two thugs, "Right.  What's your boss' code for getting in.   And then I think you've done enough.   I wouldn't want you getting 'into trouble' - being such good boys and all."

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

The thugs point at the gate. "Boss Thrumdush has a key-card. It opens the mag-lock." Indeed, you can see a lock on the gate.

"He hired everyone who works there. They all know him, and they see him once a day. He sometimes has Rancor with him. Sometimes not."

Caddandra can see the two of them shifting back & forth a bit, and looking at each other meaningfully. She's pretty sure they're up to something.

"When a guard gets here for work, the guards at the front have to let them in," the thug volunteers. "I could get the guards to open the gate for us, so it would be open for you."

Ikki fairly throws himself over the wall, landing on the sandy ground with a soft thud. No guards are in vision right now, though some could come around the corner at any moment.

From here, Ikki can see a few windows in the building. They're not very big, only about three feet across and perhaps two wide. They are about two meters up, spaced evenly around the building every three meters. They are tinted brown, allowing some light in but not so much as to be blinding.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

She almost snarls and if the minion has any sense self-preservation he will surely know the signs of a 'human' that has been angered.   "Good.  Then you know me.  Manitu."  She doesn't use her first name and steps forward as if expecting the gates to part before her, (She stealthily opens her comm channel as she speaks)++"My arrivals are rarely telegraphed... so let me make this clear:  Have Thrumdush and his men assemble in the courtyard beyond and present themselves.   Jabba's Eyes and Ears are here.  I am here to administer his will.   I have already infiltrated your establishment and your pathetic excuse for patrols have much to answer for."++  Hopefully Ikki will continue to provide suitable intel to back her up.

She then turns to the underling, "Do you understand the importance of this effort?  A dozen guards."  She cuts short a bark of a laugh.  "MOVE, Kubaz.   Do not even dream of keeping me waiting.  Rancor thought he could defy me and he's paid the price.   Thrumdush knows I'm here and knows I'm coming and," she then smiles a very pretty smile, "I hope I can hand out treats rather than punishment?"

Jeron will also hopefully continue to 'play along' in the background, a smile of 'accepted knowledge', a threatening yet 'comfortable' stance that speaks to the 'foregone conclusion' of these events would truly help to set the tone as Caddy focuses on using Ikki's 'intelligence' to further drive home the bluff.

OOC Actions:
Rolling Deception aiming to get them to open the gates, let us in, and assemble the troops:
4B   - Ikki's Knowledge,
       Jeron's presence,
Boost given to us when dealing with Jabba's minions,
Knowledge of Thrumdush and Rancor and the fact that they were previously notified.
1S   - They may have been alerted after the bar fight.
1A 2P - My Ability
1D 1C - Difficulty - I've added a 'Challenge' as this could go horribly wrong :-) If you don't want to flip a force point, feel free to make it easier! :-)]

11:46, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled no successes, 7 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 4B 1S 1A 2P 1D 1C with rolls of 3(B), 5(B), 3(B), 1(B), 1(S), 8(A), 11(P), 11(P), 6(D), 5(C).  Deception - Entering Compound.

So.... I don't get the gate opened for me. *pout*

I'll spend 3 advantages to 'critical' this guy's belief that I really am Jabba's 'Voice' and that he should tell Thrumdush about me.   I'll use the remaining for to either: apply 2 black dice to Thrumdush when he no doubt hears that the Voice is here.  Or negate any 'environmental' bonuses he has to any conflict he has for being the 'boss' here.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

At which point, Caddy will stride forward between the now open gates, the 'threat' of the thugs not completely ignored, but so 'beneath' there interest that it will hopefully give them pause.  The question for her now is.  Where is Thrumdush?   As the first thug approaches she'll look directly at him and command, a delicate finger making sure there is no uncertainty as to who she is commanding: "You.   Coffee, Black.  Now."  And then to the next one.  "I want Thrumdush out here now.  Go and fetch if and if my coffee gets here before him, I'll have your head."   The third, "You're cute."   She smiles before gesturing with her finger, "Please bring me the asset register."  She may be using 'kind' words but her demeanor remains commanding.

Then, when there's a moment of 'space' she'll quietly add so Jeron can hear and turns on the comm so the other can hear too, ++"Ikki.  I'll need a headshot prepared for when Thrumdush appears.   Get yourself stabilised, in position, and ready and let's see how this plays out."++

OOC Actions:
This is no longer a negotiation.   As far as the thugs should see, Caddy is in full control of things and given the first thug cowtowed to her (or possibly Jeron's) influence, she'll 'expect' the others to fall in line.   She'll therefore be using 'Leadership' and the force of her presence to make them believe she is fully in command and as she is doing nothing 'violent' - this should, at worst, confuse them.

The stakes here are that they will obey her and do as commanded.

Rolling against DC: 1D 1C to represent the three thugs and the fact that this could go horribly wrong.

Rolling: 1A 2P (Leadership), 1B for the guy who open the gates, 1B for Jeron's support.  1B for dealing with Jabba's minions, And again, 1B for insider info.

10:46, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled 4 successes, 3 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 4B 1A 2P 1D 1C.  Commanding the Thugs.

Hmm.  Interesting.  With that roll I'd be keen on seeing the thugs 'jump to it' and I'd like to use the three advantages to give the next ensure friendly a blue dice (1) and give Ikki a blue dice when/if he needs the headshot (2) by positioning myself in such a way that Ikki gets a 'perfect' shot on Thrumdush when he arrives.

The thugs are exchanging glances, trying to work out what to do, when one gets a commcall. Before anyone can stop him, he clicks on his commlink and says, "Yes?"

The speaker is tinny but you can hear it clearly enough. "You! You're on duty now, right? Lock down the townhouse. No-one gets in. You hear? No one!"

The thugs exchange glances once more, but there is a determined set to their jaws now. They raise their weapons at the Rebel agents already in their midst. However, the Rebels are already prepared for this moment.

The Rebels attack the thugs. Several of them are attempting to draw weapons, but the fast actions of the rebels knock their weapons loose before they can get a good grip! Slugthrowers skitter across the ground.

In the hot climate of Tatooine, the thugs have chosen to wear only thin armour. Or perhaps this was all that was supplied by their boss. Jabba the Hutt is notoriously cheap when it comes to outfitting his disposable minions.

The thugs are particularly suprised by the attack from above. Ikki's target is hit on the upper arm, causing his grip to loosen on his weapon. It falls from his hand and clatters on the ground.

The thugs are undeterred. The ones still armed fire their guns at point-blank range. The others struggle to collect their fallen firearms before resuming the attack.

In the close proximity, the thugs' shots go wild. Sand is thrown up and chips are blown off the masonry. One of the thugs shouts,

"Forget the guns! Use your blades!"

The four thugs let their guns drop and instead draw vibroblades. The Weequay hefts a vibroaxe, the long thin type reminiscent of a force pike. One accidentally cuts himself in drawing it, sending another trail of blood across the sand.

Ikki and Jeron blow away two of the thugs. They collapse on the ground, where the sand begins to soak up their blood.

The two remaining thugs can't shake the feeling that they're beaten. They run north, towards the front door.

Meanwhile, another pair of thugs meets them halfway. These thugs must have heard the gunfire and decided to investigate.

Now about thirty meters away, the thugs gain renewed confidence. They regroup with their reinforcements. The newest pair in the fight aim their slugthrower rifles and fire!

Fortunately, a fair amount of dust has been kicked up by the fight. It impedes vision just a bit. It's enough that their shots go wild. Bullets whiz by you.

Over the sound of the gunshots, you can hear voices shouting at each other from behind the garage doors. Someone must be inside there right now.

The Rebels get their act together and fire as a collective group. The thugs are cut down by the hail of bullets & blaster bolts. One survives, but he runs around the corner out of sight.

Jeron stumbled back a bit from the blast. He still wasn't fully healed from the beating he'd gotten earlier from Rancor, and now was bleeding again. He pulled out a stimpack and slapped it on his side where he got shot, immediately feeling the bacta and painkillers begin to do their work. He fired off a shot at the shotgun-wielding thug as well.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Caddy and Jeron fire at the thug who is peeking out through the doorway to fire at them. They wound him, but it is Ikki who drills a shot directly down through his head that kills him.

The garage door opens a bit more and reveals the room within. It's a large room with a high ceiling. It must be twenty meters wide and long, making it about two-thirds of the volume of the building. It is lit with crude lamps hanging from the bare rafters overhead. The floor is paved with ferrocrete. Inside is a groundtruck and some piles of boxes and junk.

Taking cover behind the truck and the piles are a group of thugs. Five in total, they aim & fire their guns.

They have taken up defensive positions that set them a bit father away from the Rebels. They are still only a short range away from the rebels, ideal distance for their slugthrower pistols.

Some of their bullets skim very close to Caddy. She ducks farther back behind the stone gate and hopes no chips of stone or ricochets hit her.

As the chips fly and hit her, Caddy crouches. She'd taken the brunt of the initial fire.   Hopefully Ikki will be able to see into the garage from his vantage point as she doubts she'll be able to take too much more of this!  She does however squeeze off another wild round as more bullets fly, forcing her to squeeze tighter against her the wall.

OOC Actions:

* 4 Damage taken (2 soaked)
* Take 1 strain for Boost - racial, Aim, return fire, take 2 strain and take cover.
* Firing at DC 1D (short range) + 1S (Cover)
* 10:51, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled no successes, 1 threat using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2b 2a 1d 1s.

Fluidly rolling to his feet, he grips Rancor's axe in his hands and lets out a battle cry as he rushes the thugs in the garage.

He brings the axe down on the nearest thug he finds hiding behind cover. Landing a satisfying hit as the axe's sharpness cuts through his armor.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

To describe the thugs as 'surprised' at Ikki's appearance misses the nuance of 'confused,' to say nothing of 'terrified.'

Ikki tears one's flesh open, causing blood to spray across the garage. The vibroaxe itself stays near-pristine as its vibrofield is too rapid for fluids to adhere to it.

The wound probably looks worse than it is. Nevertheless, this thug seems to have decided that his pay voucher isn't big enough for this and beats street.

The other two keep up the hail of fire. Another thug is thrown to the ground, leaving only two.

These two retreat. They follow their compatriot towards a door in the northern area of the garage. While he was able to navigate the short flight of stairs, they cannot do so while still facing you and firing. They are forced to stop and fire at Ikki, hoping to gun him down before taking up further cover.

The thugs in the garage open the door to the rest of the building and hide behind the doorway. They take the opportunity to keep firing at Ikki, who is currently hiding behind something himself. The bullets make a lot of noise and bounce off the cover, but have little further effect.

Jeron is about to lock the gate when he sees something interesting.

Most of the people in the street have heard all the commotion and gunfire and cleared off. The street is nearly abandoned. There is one person left, however. A human, wearing rags and a desert cloak, is crouched behind a trash collection box. He is talking into a commlink and armed with a hold-out blaster.

Caddendra quickly searched the thugs and found two bacta patches. They function effectively similiarly to stimpaks, but are more rare. They offer real healing, not just a temporary satiation of pain. How two thugs on Tatooine got ahold of such valuable items, even such small ones, is hard to guess.

Caddendra finds one of the thugs is still alive and puts a bullet in his back.

A small pause as he smirked that she put herself in charge, but so far he had been too busy to really contradict her, and...most of her decisions hadn't been terrible. ++Acknowledged.++ Jeron hefted the thug and made his way to towards the garage, looking for any way to tie up the thug and somewhere to leave him for the moment.

Jeron tied up the thug using wire in the garage. The Rebels gathered at the door, and then charged in.

The next room was a sort of closet, with hooks for cloaks and mats for boots. Some are here now. Towards the other door were some rough benches and lockers. No-one was here.

The Rebels stacked up against the next door, into the following room.

As they did, they could hear speaking on the other side. "They're coming! Get ready."

Two doors are hanging open. One leads outside. From here, you can see a small group of thugs leaving as fast as they can.

The other set of doors is also slightly open. This one goes farther into the building.

A minute later, Boss Thrumdush has been bludgeoned into unconsciousness. The other thugs are in no condition to resist either.

You search the rest of the building. One room is packed with food supplies and big bottles of water.

The final room has a being in it. It has an insectoid head with large, bulbous eyes. Its chitinous arms are tied together, leaving its gangly fingers free but useless. Its tiny waist has a rope around it that is tied to a thick iron ring attached to the wall. Its feet are clawed, but its ankles are tied together. Though it is not mammalian at all, you can tell that this creature is a picture of abject misery.

The verpine looks up at you. Its mandibles clatter anxiously.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

With the thugs having 'dealt' with their leader, she'll walk over to the unconscious Thrumdush, point her blaster at his head and pull the trigger.

With her point made and having apparently quite 'happily' killed the man in cold blood, she'll turn to the other thugs, "My word upheld, my promise kept.   As will my promise of sparing your lives remain true."  No doubt there would have been some concern amongst them considering that they hadn't quite obeyed her every command - but she is aiming to cement their loyalty and with that proclamation, expects an element of relief.   "Now, between you, elect a representative.  A spokesman."   She hasn't given them the choice of whether to 'work for her' or not, simply taking the reigns and knowing that it is 'human nature' to go along with a strong leader when they are 'clearly in control'.

She'll give them a moment to do as required and will turn to her comrades.   "Once we've looked around this place, we had better bring the captive from outside in.  We'll need to find out who he was talking to."  This to Jeron before smiling to Ikki, "And you'll probably want to grab your rifle - it has served us well.  And maybe a quick check on the outside while you're there - just in case."

That done she'll turn back to the thugs and the one they'd have pushed forwards but will address the others first, "Thank you.   I expect this place to be far better guarded than when I arrived.   Please follow Commander Ikki who will assign your duties in the interim."  She has no real idea of what the rank is she's given Ikki but she makes it sound 'commanding' and impressive!

Then to their spokesperson, "I'd like you to please show me around this establishment.  I need to know exactly what you've been doing here, what this establishment is being used for and so forth.  Tell me everything, assume I know nothing."   Even giving orders, it might seem strange that she remains polite.  And with that she'll start walking, expecting anyone who will be searching the place to follow.

When they make it to the verpine she consider the being before turning to the representative, "Who is this and why are they here?"

Jeron's eyes widened and his eyebrows shot up as Caddy executed Thrumdrush in cold-blood. He tried to quickly cover up his reaction before the thugs noticed. He set his face back to a frown, which wasn't difficult since he wasn't happy with what had just happened. Thrumdrush might have been able to give them information that the thugs wouldn't know.

He helped cleared the rooms as they searched the place. He glanced at spiffy pistol and then at Caddy. Unless she objected, he picked it up for the moment and stowed it for the time being. He wasn't trying to keep it from anyone, they could discuss it later.

Jeron headed outside to bring in the captive he'd tied up while Caddy dealt with the Verpine - even though he was quite fascinated by the insectoid.

She knew Jeron might not follow through with her actions regarding Thrumdush - but she'd made a calculated 'guess' that Thrumdush, given his rather senseless actions previously, was simply a promoted thug rather than any sort of intelligence in this outfit.   Yes, he may have known something but he probably didn't know too much value - besides, if they'd been a bit more ruthless earlier, he'd have been dead in the bar!  Seeing Jeron eye the upgraded (and blinged) pistol, she'll smile as Jeron collects it.

She'll collect the glitterstim and credits and add them to her pack - it wouldn't help having the thugs looting the place (though she was well aware of the value of the foodstuff to these individuals).  Thrumdush's commlink and hold-out will be added to her pack and she'll link the output of the comm to her own comm-link so she could monitor any comms on its no doubt secure channels.

The captive.... Maybe he (used only because the thug did so too and she doesn't know the gender of the captive) would be a useful ally?  Can he speak Basic?  Far too many questions.   Then to the thug who'd spoken about the farm, "I'll need directions please."

Then to the captive she'll speak, "Are you able to speak?   What is your name?"  Her voice is gentle, as it generally is, encouraging it to speak despite still being tied up.  Maybe, just maybe, it was being held here because it was

Ikki nodded at Caddy "Just remember that next time I see a new rifle." His brain goes into overdrive at the sudden promotion "Right, start clearing the dead. Then reinforce the doors. If I see anyone looking to betray Mi'lady again. I'll separate you..." He simply stats as he clangs his axe against the floor. That should be enough to solidify the order.

After collecting his rifle he made his way back to the Caddy, pasting a window he gently slaps Jeron's shoulder to get his attention, pointing at the Armoured Imp car "We're got company.." Ikki had a bad feeling about this, hopefully Caddy and Jeron could talk their way out of this...

The verpine cooperates and allows itself to be freed. It rises, and looks around the room. It is clearly frightened by the scene of combat and the human corpse, but grabs a prybar to use as an impromptu club.

The part of the team on the speeder arrive on the scene just behind the armoured groundcar. It stops a few doors down from Jabba's warehouse. The doors open and a dozen stormtroopers file out. They split into two ranks and hustle along beside the car as it rolls forward. The car's main gun, a dual blaster turret, is mounted on the roof. It swivels to aim towards the storehouse.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Jeron checked over the guy he'd stunned for anything of value. He waited to see what was coming at them next. Then his eyes widened and his jaw dropped open. "Really?? Stormtro---fine!" He quickly turned and ran from the gate and back towards the building. "Time to go!!"

OOC: Wasn't there a second gate for the loading dock or whatever? Jeron is heading there if so.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Out on the road, the Rebels' speeders take a side street. They drive and maneuver through the cluttered road. Piles of junk, empty crates, and refuse bins slow their course. Soon, they arrive at the end of the alleyway on the far side of the Imperials' position. From here, the opened side gate is plainly visible. That 'alleyway' is actually large enough for a groundtruck to drive down without scraping the refuse bin. They can see the Stormtroopers taking positions all around the front. The armoured groundcar rolls past, taking its own position in front of the front door.

The Rebels make for the side entrance. Heading out the front door is suicide. They peer out the garage door and see the gate still open and seemingly unguarded. Alternatively, they could try to climb over the wall. Ikki had discovered a crack in the wall that makes climbing over it relatively easy. To get to that spot, they would have to go around the building and get to the West side of the compound.

The Rebels make a quick radio contact to inform each other of their relative positions. The Rebels' speeders are only about twenty meters away, linearly.

Think, think, think!  "Wait!  Jeron!   Take the spy you knocked out with you!  And if you get caught, make sure he can't report anything about us."   Hopefully Jeron will wait for her so she can hand him her belongings.   She then turns to the Verpine.   "Go with Jeron.   I'm going to try and slow them down."  She then looks at the spokesperson, "Go with Jerson.   Ikki will lead the others."  And then to Ikki over the comm, "++Cover Jeron as he makes from the back gate and then bolt with the men.++"  She's not calling them thugs any more as they're now 'her men'.  "++I'm going to see if I can hold up the Stormtroopers.++"   And then she'll continue to the garage, blood... she needed blood.   Ripping her garments, she'll bloody herself before running out towards the gate, her hands more than visible, as she attempts to present the image of a fleeing captive - no doubt the wounds she received earlier will add to the effect.  "Help!   Help me... please."

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

The two thugs that Caddy has press-ganged get all the way outside before they see the stormtroopers. They lose their nerve and stay inside the garage.

Jeron gets all the way to the garage and sees the thug he tied up. The man is groggy but still attempting to free himself from the makeshift binds.

Meanwhile, Onyx makes it into the alleyway. He comes up to the gate and sees the inside of it. He sees a pair of unfamiliar humanoids, armed with slugthrowers, peering out of the garage door nervously towards the stormtroopers. They duck back inside. He also sees Jeron enter the room.

Dienton and Forim arrange their speeders for a quick getaway in the street behind Jabba's walled complex. Dienton notes that one of the walls looks weak, as though a good impact could shatter it. Forim spots something interesting too; the building next door to Jabba's complex has a ladder running from the alleyway to the roof.

At that moment, Caddanra is preparing to begin her distraction. She is just inside the front door, preparing to appear as though she is being pursued by all the villainous forces in the galaxy. Then she hears a 'boom' from outside. There are the sound of several powerful blaster bolts and the screeching of tearing metal.

"Yes, cause I'll move so much faster luggin' him around too..." AND her gear too apparently! He let out a sigh and continued on his way, gear and spy in tow.

Entering the room with Jeron, a tiny bit sad he wouldn't get to at least try at the Speeder bike so far. "Caddy's outside, buying us time. What the hell is going on out there?" He askes as the firefight begins.

Looking at the other thugs "Go on, get out while they're busy. Let's get this Verpine out of here." He kept his rifle drawn and kept checking his corners.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Onyx points his weapon at the thugs, who immediately throw up their hands. Not a lot, but enough to show their lack of threatening intent. "Hey, friend. We're just trying to make our way in the Universe, you know? That woman who killed the Boss is at the front door. She told us to get out of here."

Ikki enters and joins Jeron, Onyx, and the thugs. He is escorting a Verpine, who looks frightened as far as you can read Verpine facial expression. He has his hands on his head and keeps glancing left & right. He is limping a bit, and you can see the scars on his ankle joins. He is managing to keep up with Ikki, however.

The verpine crouches against the doorjamb, not far from Onyx. He looks up at Onyx with wide eyes. He taps his thorax. "D'Trii," he says. Possibly he is introducing himself.

On his way to the garage, Onyx saw one of the stormtroopers in front of the complex. He didn't stay in view long before entering the open gate, but the stormtrooper may have seen him as well.

Then something happens at the front of the building.

Caddanra goes outside the front door and is immediately confronted by ten stormtroopers aiming blaster rifles directly at her. One has an orange pauldron and a communication pack on his back. There is another stormtrooper with them who is not carrying a blaster rifle. Rather, he has a blaster pistol and is standing slightly in front of the others.

Behind them is an armoured groundcar. The tinted windows are impossible to see through from outside, but surely there is an operator still inside. The engine rumbles and the twin heavy blasters mounted on the turret swivel down towards her.

The metal gate on this side of the building has been blasted. It lies in a twisted heap on the sandy ground. No longer does it obstruct entry through the gateway, although if you aren't careful running over it you might step between the bars and twist your ankle.

The stormtrooper in the front levels his blaster pistol at Caddy as she piteously cries for help. Whether he believes her story or not doesn't seem to enter the discussion.

"Set for stun," he says through his helmet's speaker, and then fires. Blue rings of energy blast from his pistol towards Caddy.

The Force rolled 1 success, 2 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1a 2P 2D.  RL st Sgt pistol (stun).

The Rebels have gathered at the speeders on the other side of the alleyway. Dienton and Forim attempt to gather their colleages up for a hasty escape. As they leave the complex, two of the stormtroopers see them heading towards the speeders.

The stormtroopers level their rifles from the other end of the alley. One shouts, his loud voice still nearly emotionless as it comes through the speaker.

Caddy collapses against the door, feigning unconsciousness. The stormtrooper seargent is ten meters away and distracted, so he makes no further investigation before running over to the alley entrance. The other stormtroopers follow, and soon the alley is full of stormtroopers running down to the other side.

It avails them nothing. Dienton and Forim wait only long enough to see that Onyx, Jeron, Ikki, and their verpine companion climb aboard their speeders before gunning the engines. The speeders leap off with a powerful noise, and suddenly the streets are filled with thick clouds of sand.

The stormtroopers fire wildly into the cloud. A few blasts hit Forim's speeder, leaving smoking craters in the chassis. The speeder is made of tougher stuff, and keeps its course.

Meanwhile, on the radio of the confiscated speeder you hear communication between the stormtroopers and their Command Post.

"Hardtop Prime, meet us at the alley entrance! CP, we are in pursuit of two speeders, civilian models, in the direction of the spaceport."

"Understood. Closing the spaceport. No-one's getting off this rock."

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

The hard-top executes a five-point turn. Caddendra takes advantage of the walls to wait until the groundtruck is facing away. The double-doors on the back of the truck have no windows; likely the vehicle relies on externally-mounted cameras for rear viewing.

Caddy may choose to approach the hard-top stealthfully, quickly, or acrobatically. All Difficulty 3, but setbacks & advantages will be different depending on whether she chooses Athletics, Acrobatics, or Stealth.

The stormtroopers split into two groups. One group spreads out across the street, firing at the escaping Rebel speeders. The other, including the seargent, rushes back through the alleyway towards their vehicle.

Onyx & Dienton have a few moments to drive through the streets of Mos Espa before pursuit is truly joined. Although the village isn't terribly populated, there's enough traffic and junk in the streets to make a high-speed chase seriously dangerous. They must choose how fast to drive. Too fast, and their speeders may crash. Too slow, and the Imperials may catch up.

Driving a speeder at high speed on Tatooine means dust. The Rebels struggle to keep their eyes clear.

Choose your own Difficulty, max 4. For every 1 Difficulty over 1, take 1 additional Boost dice. Do you feel lucky?

Caddy manages to get up inside the groundtruck. Like many troop transports, the loading door can be opened to several degrees. This allows it to be fully sealed for protection, or to be opened & closed quickly to allow for rapid loading & unloading. At the moment, it's opening to allow the stormtroopers to file back inside and give chase.

Then Caddy climbs into the truck. She sees two imperial army soldiers at the controls. One is driving, his attention fixed on his steering pad and guidance cameras. The other is standing up at the controls of the vehicle's blaster turret. He is scanning the environment through his periscopic screen, watching for danger outside the truck.

Caddy hears the tromping of the stormtroopers rushing back towards their groundtruck transport. She has only moments to act before they pile in and surround her.

Meanwhile, the other Rebels make excellent time. They roar through the streets of Mos Espa, leaving a cloud of sand behind them. The stormtroopers having been left in the dust for the moment, they have a brief window to debate their destination. The Sunset Shimmer is still waiting at the landing area, ready to take off with only a few minutes of preparation. They are also aware of the merchant vessel parked at the moisture farm several hours' drive out of the city. After the sabotage mission, it's probably not in as good a state of repair.

The Rebels are also aware that the Imperials do have a ship in the system. Although the Dreadnaught is neither close nor fast, at flank speed they might still be able to inconvenience the Rebels' escape if it takes too long. Most Dreadnaught-class vessels carry a squadron of TIEs as well. Time is of the essence.

I am willing to do it, but if this man is to important I obviously will be unable to stay behind.

Taking out his rifle and checking it over once more, he prepares for more combat "The more important question is how are we gonna get to our ship and rescue Caddy? We're not excatly in the best of shape."

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Caddy slaps the manual control to seal the vehicle. The gears grind in protest, but reverse their course. The door seals itself just as the stormtrooper squad reaches the back. They shout in protest, their demands for information coming in over the groundtruck's comm.

The vehicle operators hear this and glance over in surprise. They turn just in time to see Caddy right up in the gunner's face. She shouts a battle cry and smacks him across the face with an extinguisher.

The gunner falls back, but the pilot catches him. They stand and fight, trying to both get at her at once. The close-quarters of the cabin make hand-to-hand combat a brutal affair.

The Force rolled 1 success, 1 threat using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2A 2D.  Crew Brawl.

The gunner punches Caddy in the chest, knocking some of the wind out of her.

The stormtroopers outside are banging on the door, trying to get the attention of the vehicle crew.

Meanwhile,

The other Rebels hold a hasty deliberation on their next course of action. They are attracting a lot of civilian attention with their rapid pace, but there don't seem to be any enemies around at the moment.

As Dienton is turning a corner, he sees something that worries him. A man in a simple desert robe is crouching behind a market stall. The man is talking hurriedly into a commlink.

It would seem that Jabba's goons are trying to get a fix on them even now. Although it is unlikely that Dienton and his passengers have been marked, it is most likely that the speeder's description is being relayed throughout the village.

Close quarters wasn't ever going to be easy for her and she desperately needed to make this count but... two one wasn't going to be easy.  Dropping the fire extinguisher, to give her more 'room' to move, she clawed at the driver before pulling back a little to try and stop them both attacking her at the same time.

Caddy knocks the trooper back. He falls on a lever just as the driver is trying to roll the truck forward. The truck's gears adjust into Reverse without properly shifting. The truck shifts backwards violently about half a meter and then stalls.

Caddy is knocked from her feet. The gunner is on his hands & knees. He tries to grab her leg and pull her forward. He pulls off her left boot but she avoids being grappled.

A bump is 'enough' to knock her off her feet but in the confines of the vehicle that hasn't badly hurt her.   What she can't however do is muster the strength to wiggle to her feet and so with her remaining booted foot, she tries to aim a kick at the gunner's face given he'd tried to grab her other foot.  Unfortunately it doesn't help her as while the kick was well aimed, the gunner had already retreated expecting the blow.  Things were not going well....

Dienton continues his course towards the storage shed.  Seeing the suspicious character though, he makes his course more erratic, hoping to throw off any pursuit.  He comms to Forim in the other speeder "Split up, get close and ditch, meet you there"  He doubles back on his course several times as he makes his way through the city.  Once within a few hundred meters of the storage shed, he maneuvers the speeder down a narrow alley between two adjacent buildings.

With the speeder tucked neatly in the shadowed alleyway, he turns to the group with a vicious grin, "Thank you for traveling on the Dienton Express.  This is our last stop for the evening.  Please watch your step as you exit the vehicle and be sure to gather any personal belongings, including freed prisoners, before you depart.  We hope you'll travel with us again soon.  Can someone please check our tail?"

Dienton hops out of the speeder and creeps towards the mouth of the alley leading towards the storage shed.  He peeks his head around the corner, looking for signs of spotters or other ne'er-do-wells.

With a short pause he says to Ikki "Scout out and see what you can get.  Don't move just yet, as we can perhaps strike two birds with one stone - you stage your resuce after we get the cargo loaded on a ship - you smash, grab, and we swoop in on the ship and then make for space - everyone aboard."

Dienton growled a little as he was described as useless.  He had taken care of multiple enemies alone before the Duros had bothered to even show up!

His thought had been to leave the Verpine with Cole, per the mission briefing, since sneaking him through the "locked down" spaceport would be difficult at best.  But if Ikki could find a way in, then . . ok.

He remembered the comm unit he had taken from Jabbas thugs.  With a moment to breath, finally, he took another crack at breaking the encription.  With his previous attempt and the tools available in the shed, he felt his chances were better.

With a shrill squeal the comlink came to life.  He listened to the chatter for any sign that their route to the shed had been made.

Beaming, he turned to the group, waving the commlink "Idea, what if we use Jabbas encripted channel here to lead Jabba thugs to believe the Verpine was captured by the imperials and they have detained him at the starport?  Think they would try to get him back?  Giving us a distraction to use a side entrance?  This has the side benefit of covering our tracks."

The groundtruck's troop door at the back unfolds and opens. A half-dozen of the troopers get out of the truck, including their seargent. Two of them are carrying the tied & blindfolded Caddy. They drop her on the ground, with two of the stormtroopers flanking her. The seargent stands in the middle of the field, and the rest take up positions at the gate.

The troopers are about fifty meters away from you. Long for a pistol shot, but excellent range for a blaster rifle. At least you have excellent cover in this abandoned building's windows. You also managed to park your speeder just in front of the building. No-one seems to have reported it as stolen yet.

Dienton grimaced in frustration, he had no weapon capable of taking the shot at this range.  Not wanting to lose the advantage of surprise, he dashes out of the building running full tilt towards the troopers, but angles to the side to keep his companions lines of sight clear.

Once in range he lets loose with a furious volley of blaster bolts.  The troopers jerk in suprise, one is hit and reels from the impact.  Dienton attemps to dive behind a trash container, but slips ends up sliding on his backside, exposed to the troopers view.

Onyx can't help but sigh at his companions charge. The imperials had the upper hand. They had Caddy. A bold charge like this is exactly to a situation where Caddy could get caught in the crossfire. Then again it wasn't his call. He was just the muscle.

Onyx drew his rifle from its place around his back and aimed it at the trooper on Caddy's left. He paused a second making sure Caddy wouldn't be in the way of the shot before he pressed the trigger down and fired.

Onyx rolled 2 successes, 4 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1a 2p 3d.  Sniping.

The blast catches the stormtrooper in the chest sending him sprawling down limp. As the trooper falls he lands directly on Caddy trapping her and making it nearly impossible for her to move.

Assuming that covers the threats. If feel free to deal me some strain damage.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

The stormtroopers are taken aback by the sudden charge and volley of blaster fire. They fall all over themselves trying to get to cover.

Several stormtroopers take wounds, their armour smoking but largely intact. One is caught in the face and falls over.

Caddy feels a weighty impact as an armoured male falls over her. The impact is surprising, but it isn't a hard enough hit to hurt. The stormtrooper lies still. He must have been killed or knocked unconscious.

The stormtroopers struggle to get to cover. Some hide behind the wind fence, though this is more concealment than cover. The material is not sturdy enough to deflect a blast.

Some make an effort to take cover behind the ground truck, but their seargent waves them off. Instead, he points forward several times. The groundtruck begins rolling forward. As it goes, the rear door begins to close again.

The groundtruck drives out onto the sandy street and turns to the left. As it drives away, the gun turret swivels and fires.

A pair of charged bolts slam into the abandoned building that the rebels had been taking cover in. Forim is sprayed with chunks of duracrete. He shakes this off without injury, but the bad news hasn't come yet. He glances up. The building is on fire.

The Force rolled 1 success using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3a 3D.  blaster turret.

The five remaining stormtroopers are not taken aback for long. Four of them aim their rifles, trying to catch Ikki in a crossfire.

It doesn't work. The youthful rebel is simply moving too fast for the stormtroopers to hit. Puddles of glass form around his feet as he hops lightly.

The Force rolled 3 failures using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3P 1A 3D.  Stormtrooper blaster rifles.

The stormtrooper seargent steps forward, ahead of his men and away from Caddy. He takes aim with his blaster pistol. Levelling the handgun at Dienton, he fires.

The weight of the stormtrooper on top of her was uncomfortable and his armour dug into her... and yet, blindfolded and tied, she could do little.  Struggling against the bonds was mostly ineffectual and just draw attention to her.... This is all going through her mind as she's suddenly shocked by the impact to the concrete and the shower of stone.  Are they all ok?  She tries to maneuver her hands to where she can pull off the blindfold.

Ikki kept his focus on the fight even as the blaster bolts flew around him, hearing the crunch of the glass under his foot, he pauses again and takes aim this time, squeezing his tirgger and letting another bolt fly. Landing a shot on one of the troopers the shock or pain causing them to drop their weapon. Judging the distance, he places begins to move once again forward, closing the gap while they still had the upper hand in his fight. He'd probably end up dropping his rifle again but he'd defeintly cause some chaos when he starts swinging his axe around.

Forim fires sporadically as he escapes the burning building. He is just about to get out the front door to safety when something explodes.

(Choose: Resilience to endure the explosion, Athletics to outrun it, Coordination to take cover from it. 3D. Each Failure represents 1 Strain. Any Disadvantages mean you have been knocked down. Despair means you are trapped in the house.)

At least the stormtroopers are forced to keep their heads down.

Dienton opens fire as well, but the stormtroopers are getting themselves behind more effective cover now. His blasts miss their targets.

Ikki blasts another stormtrooper, throwing him flat against the ground. He hurls himself closer as well.

Caddy pulls the blindfold off to find that the stormtrooper lying across her abdomen is quite dead. She peers around. The stormtrooper seargent is only a few meters away from her, but is ignoring her. Instead, he is striding towards Ikki.

The stormtroopers abstain from firing at the closest target. Instead, they coordinate their fire at Dienton. The combined fire outlines the little Chandra-fan, but fails to find the mark. Instead, they accidentally set fire to the wind-fence they are using for concealment.

"Emperor's heart!" one shouts as he tries to get away from the fire.

The Force rolled no successes, 3 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1a 2P 3D.  Stormtrooper blaster rifles.

The seargent ignores this. He draws a pair of vibroblades and thumbs them to power. Now in melee range, he drops into a combat stance. The two face each other for mere moments. Then the stormtrooper lunges.

The seargent uses the left hand blade only to feint, forcing Ikki to dodge right. As he does so, the real attack comes. The seargent catches Ikki across the back & shoulder.

The Force rolled 4 successes, 2 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1a 2P 2D.  Stormtrooper sgt vibroblades. 8 Damage.

The stormtrooper seargent is totally focused on his prey. Caddy has only a few moments to take advantage of this.

Forim dives into the speeder and guns the engine. It lifts off with a buzz, sand blowing from its exhaust ports.

Onyx fires, but misses. Dienton fires as well, blasting a stormtrooper from his feet. He falls into the burning sand and is still.

The two remaining stormtroopers are in a tight spot, but the Empire's shock troops don't give up easily. One fires a covering barrage while the other hurls a grenade.

The grenade flies through the air, landing near the landspeeder. Forim angles the speeder to blast it with exhaust. The grenade flies backwards and lands in an abandoned building before exploding.

Onyx and Caddy fire blasters at the stormtrooper seargent. He ignores them, focusing instead on Ikki. Ikki hacks into the seargents' chestplate. The white armour is torn loose, leaving only the black bodyglove beneath it. It is already stained red with blood.

The seargent flicks his helmet with his right vibroblade, knocking it off. Under his helmet, he is a white human male with close-cut black hair. He has a stern, ferocious expression as he closes with Ikki.

Ikki, now on the ground, tries to parry the oncoming seargent with the axe. The stormtrooper approaches like a hunting cat, crouched and holding his blades like claws.

He thrusts both blades down, missing Ikki by millimeters. One blade is driven into the sand-covered ferrocrete. Ikki's jacket is pinned to the ground.

Soon, the Rebels have gunned it into the sky. Immediately, the ship's sensors begin registering contacts.

The Imperial Dreadnaught has closed on the planet. From its nearer position it has deployed TIE Fighters. One squadron is escorting the ponderous capital ship. The other has broken by flights to blockade more of the planet.

The Sunset Shimmer has entered upper altitude when three TIEs are in them.

No difficulty rolled.  Use any spare advantages to put them out of position when we blow past them.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

The TIE Fighters were expecting resistance. However the modified freighter cuts a tighter curve than they anticipated. Their formation scatters for a few seconds.

The Shimmer gets a few precious milliparsecs away before the TIEs get their act together. Their short-range lasers are firing at maximum range.

Forim is forced into a dive to avoid the hail of energy, but the ship is unharmed.

1 setback to all piloting and gunnery actions.
Everyone else take an action or at least indicate that you're doing nothing.

21:27, Today: Forim Luk rolled 4 successes using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2P 2A 2D ((7(P), 5(P), 7(A), 4(A), 8(D), 8(D))).

Upgrade 1 difficulty dice to Challenge dice, also upgrade difficutly to shoot the ties by 1.

Just reading what the non combatants can do
CoPilot can make a 2D piloting check to lower my difficulty..
Anyone can make a 3D dicipline or leadership check to give the gunners a boost
3D computers to hack their systems, spend 2 advantages for 1 strain, or reduce defence of one zone.
2D computers to jam their communications

Ikki copies his fellow gunner and swivels in his seat and hits another one of the ties, not destroying it but damaging it alot. However the wound on his back was causing him alot of pain, he was being too rough on his control panel as well, overloading part of the system.

Ikki Sorlock rolled 1 success, 3 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3a 2d 1s with rolls of 6(A), 3(A), 3(A), 7(D), 8(D), 6(S).  Shoot Ties.

6 damage

Spending 2 Threats to give myself another Setback next check and 1 threat to add a strain to the ship.

The Force rolled 1 success, 2 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1A 2P 3D 1C.  Tie attack.

The remaining TIEs are not put off by the counterattacking laser fire. They hum and close in formation, firing all the while.

Some of the laser blasts strike the Shimmer's shields. The ship rocks with laser dissipated energy.

In their haste to get closer, the TIE fighters have yet to comm for assistance! Only belatedly does their Flight leader summon aid. Your sensors detect that other TIE fighters are now being dispatched towards your position.

Dientons fingers twitch as the ties streak across his field of vision, the ships movements are making it tough, but he would defend his ship!  He lets loose another volley as soon as he is able to lock onto the next fighter, again it explodes across his field of vision - he grins.

As the tie splinters he hoots into his comm "Yeaaaa haw!  Hey Forim, get us out of here, we cant outrun these guys at sublight!"

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Having taken a moment to settle herself and feeling the immediacy of the need for her to help the ship, Cassy heads for an open terminal and sits herself down.   Hacking isn't her 'speciality' but she figures she can sow a few seeds of confusion in the enemy and looks to transmit various conflicting signals about position, numbers and so forth in the hope of confusing the less capable fighters approaching them (after all, she figures, they can't all be carrying heavy duty sensor equipment!)

[Attempting: 2D computers to jam their communications

3A, 2D, 1B (courtesy of Dienton)

08:57, Today: Caddanra 'Caddy' Manitu rolled 3 successes, 4 threats using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 3A 3D 1B ((1(A), 4(A), 6(A), 7(D), 7(D), 5(D), 3(B))).

So she succeeds well, but 4 threats are quite hefty.  So that's a blue to the next action of the enemy against our ship - and a black for our ship's next action.   But the signals *do* work so they are confused.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

Caddendra taps in a sequence into the ship's comm and smiles with satisfaction. She's pretty sure that the impromptu jamming will keep the enemy from communicating.

The TIEs fire their lasers again. It boxes the Shimmer into place, cutting within meters of the hull.

The ship's shields overload. Now there is nothing but a thin layer of metal between you and space.

The ship's navicomputer beeps. You have escaped Tatooine's mass shadow, making it possible to effect a hyperspace jump.

Likely you will want to make only a short hop at first, to escape pursuit before jumping out of the system. These are fairly easy to calculate.

The Force rolled no successes, 1 threat , 1 triumph using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1a 2p 3d 1b.  tie attack.

1D for a microjump. 1 setback for doing it fast!

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

What could Caddy do?  She could only shudder as their shields fell and lazer fire quite literally skimmed their shields, "Let's go, let's go, let's go!"

She can only continue to jam the enemies communication (which she now seems to have a solid handle on, tweaking the comms to confuse!) as they hopefully make the first micro-jump.

The tie fighters just kept coming!  Dienton had destroyed two of them, he wasnt sure how the rest of the team was doing, so he did all he could at the moment.  He had started as a healer, but had long ago accepted that he was now a soldier.  He fired and another tie exploded into fragments, sending a shower of sparks across his vison.  His gun began to complain at the stress.

Re: RJ: Mos Espa

The ship lurches and the stars jump. Everyone not in a shock chair rolls, struggling to avoid falling.

A moment later, you re-enter real space. The TIEs are nowhere to be seen. Tatooine is distantly visible, no brighter than most of the stars. It is nearly lost in the light of the binary stars. Strange constellations greet you.

Long range sensors detect the dreadnought and its vessels half a light year behind you. It seems to be gathering up some of its vessels before pursuing. The TIEs cannot make even such a short jump, as they lack hyperdrives. The dreadnought could only pursue you if it left its fighter escort behind.

You don't stick around to find out how long it will take. Only a few minutes later, you have leaped back into hyperspace. As soon as you are away, the immediate danger has passed.

Soon the Sunset Shimmer's transponder codes will be known all across the Empire as a Rebel vessel. However, you have accomplished your objectives.
