Tourney: Rd 1: Geddon v Tor of the Balance
"Welcome to the Tournament!"

For the first round of the Tournament all of the fights would take place in The Circle, an open-air arena without walls.  Combatants are warned that the copper band which marks the edge of the arena also marks the location of a magical barrier which prevents exiting the arena during the match (and keeps out anything being thrown or shot from the stands).  The barrier rises 50 feet before arcing to create a dome over the arena approximately 75 feet above the ground.  Amphitheater seating allows the crowds to watch the action.  A pair of massive poles (10 feet wide) are placed across the arena from each other, connected by a long rope festooned with flags and advertisements.  The afternoon sun casts a shadow from the western pole across the center of the arena, but otherwise the arena is bathed in sunlight.

OOC:
Standard fight rules
3 prep rounds

In your posts, please include a private section to the GM, which lists your current stats (AC, hp, non-permanent bonuses to anything, spells or powers in effect, immunities, etc.).  This section can also include any pre-fight actions taken.  Once the pre-fight stuff is posted, I will roll to see if anything is dispelled upon entering the arena.  After that, you can each post your preps and roll for initiative.

A copy of the map is provided below.

Tourney: Rd 1: Geddon v Tor of the Balance
Coming through the northern doors of the arena, Tor of the Balance steps out onto the sand-covered stone of the arena.  A human, nearing middle-age, Tor carries only a spear and wears travelerís clothes which have clearly seen better days.  There seems to be nothing out of the ordinary about the man, though there must be something if he was able to enter the tournament.  He appears at ease, most ignoring the crowd as he leans on his staff and awaits his opponentís arrival.

Shadows swirl around Geddon as he steps through the entrance doors, spreading outward but contained by the magic which is in place prior to the beginning of the fight.  Geddon appears to be a lycanthrope, as he seems to have taken a form that is a mixture of dolgrim and bat, with large ears and wings and a thick covering of dark gray fur which helps him almost completely fade into the shadows that swirl about him.

The goblinoid creature glances around, quickly taking in the layout of the arena in which he will be fighting before settling on the human across the arena.  Yet, after a moment, as the seconds tick down before the fight begins, Geddon closes his eyes, shutting out the sounds of the audience (thankfully already muted by the magical barrier around the arena) and focusing on the fight to come.  The squat dolgrimís four arms twitch as he readies himself for battle.

Tor continues to stand in place, closely watching his opponent and waiting for the fight to begin.  However, the most sharp-eyed and knowledgeable in the watching crowd notice that he seems to move slightly, as if teleporting a few inches to the left.  A few nudge their companions and point out the tell-tale sign of someone using a time stop or its psionic like, and trying to hide the fact.  Whatever actions he takes within the hidden time though, they have no visible effect.

Finally, just before the signal is given, Geddonís eyes flick open and each of his hands grabs one of the numerous daggers strapped to him.  As the horn sounds, Geddon springs forward with a burst of speed and races toward his opponent, the shadows outracing him as they spread to fill the arena.  Suddenly facing his foe, Tor is subjected to a flurry of strikes, as Geddon puts all four daggers to use.

The fight seems to go poorly for the dolgrim however.  Though his attacks find their way through Torís guard, Geddon finds himself likewise assailed.  Those re-watching the fight later, with the aid of customized divination spells which slow down the apparent flow of time, see that for each attack he makes, Geddon is struck up to three times by his human opponent.  Only his ingrained desire for battle keeps Geddon on his feet as he is repeatedly pierced by Torís spear.

Just as those who bet on Geddon are despairing though, the end comes.  One of Geddonís daggers slashes into Torís neck and continues through, instantly killing Tor.  The were-batís attack ends suddenly, as his opponentís remains collapse to the ground.  Looking down, Geddon hisses something unintelligible at the corpse before turning, staggering a few steps and lifting off the ground, his wings propelling him into the air for a wobbly victory lap.

OOC:
I did all of the rolls and such for this fight IRL, so there is nothing in the dice roller. Neither cast any spells during the prep rounds, though Tor of the Balance manifested Temporal Acceleration.  Neither had any spells or powers active which had visible effects.  The fight was over in a single round, with both fighters taking multiple injuries.

Geddonís daggers are apparently vorpal weapons.  Or at least one of the four he was using is.
