The Club

From the game map notes section;

The Explorer's Club: This rebuilt Martian building once housed the Martian canal excise offices under the Seldons. It now serves as a home away from home for members of the
Explorer's Club. Membership is restricted to British subjects, and the dues are s per annum.

It seemed like a place to which Robert and Louis would belong.

Well, there isn't much about it at all, and the Wiki reference is to a group started in the 1900s in New York. That means we can pretty much roll our own about this Explorer's Club.

It could be a like a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen place.

I'm thinking something along those lines - a place where some real movers and shakers meet. Given the diversity of the Martian political landscape, I will rule that the Club isn't exclusive to British subjects, albeit on a *very* selective basis. There are other nations, and even a couple of Martian groups represented among the Club's members.

The Club's watchword is discretion. They don't condone illegal activity, but their definition of illegal may differ from the Governor's upon occasion. Her Majesty's Government views the Explorer's Club as something to be tolerated at most times, and highly useful at other times. The Club is loyal to the respective governments, so spies are turned out whenever they are discovered within the ranks.

I like it.  A more inclusive organization does make sense on Mars where it might not on Earth.

Also there should be some higher loyalty to one's comrades within the club.

I volunteer to ref AYSO but mostly do the older kids U14 and above.  I also do high school when that comes around.  I enjoy it a lot, it's great exercise and the people in our local AYSO region are all good friends so I enjoy the company.

I'm walking the line between not driving your decisions in the game, and having the NPCs actually be useful. Let me know if I stray off too far in either direction ;-)
