Day 14 - late afternoon
In reply to Rufus (msg # 440):

As the floor opens beneath him, Thaco is unable to reach the ledge from which he came and plummets feet first into the pit trap below. His companions helplessly look on as the events of the past few minutes have unfolded with unexpected expedience. Thaco looses grasp of the torch in his off-hand as he attempts to brace himself.  A thousand different thoughts race through his mind. The feeling of weightlessness and the fear of what may lie at the bottom of the dark pit consume him with a sense of dread. The floor of the pit quickly rises to meet his feet.

Thud! (Role 1d6 for damage)

Thaco lands first and moments after, the torch has landed on the other side of the pit.

Graz - do you have our rope? If not, suggest you go back and cut the one we just passed with your axe as high up as you can.

Day 14 - late afternoon
In reply to Thaco (msg # 443):

Thaco stumbles as he attempts to stand and regain his bearings. The impact from the fall was harder than he would have imagined but after a few moments, he is back on his feet and able to assess his surroundings. The pit is 10 feet in depth and 10 feet in length. The trap floor hangs on both sides of the walls of pit on the hinges which were hidden from sight under the flooring. The pit has a dirt floor and sides and Thaco thanks the gods that there were no additional sharpened implements on the floor bottom as he has imagined and heard of through stories and tales.
The torch is barely lit and lays on the other side of the pit casting a warm orange light in the hole where he now stands.

What next?

Thaco dusts himself off and stands in the dim orange glow of the torch which lies on the floor on the other side of the pit.

He looks upwards for signs of him companions...

Is there any room to continue walking down the hall on the side of the pit? Or does it take up the entire width?

So, Graz, before Thaco comes back up, we may need to go down into the pit to get to the other side. We could lower ourselves into the pit than you could boost us up on the other side, then climb the rope. Thoughts?

Day 14 - late afternoon
In reply to Graz (msg # 452):

Graz and Rufus gently lower themselves into the pit by holding each other and letting themselves descend slowly to avoid any injury. They join their companion Thaco on the floor of the pit before the torch slowly starts to putter out. The flames are having a hard time staying lit as Thaco picks the torch up off the floor. The duration on time that the torch can stay lit has been affected by the fall.

The lads hoist each other up on the far side of the pit and eventually stand on the landing. As they walk east, they can hear the sound of rushing water in the distance and the smell and feel of a see breeze.  They proceed for another 15 feet and are standing in the entrance of the chasm hall.

The flame on the torch is struggling to stay lit as the strong gusts of air push the fire farther from the wick.
The room is about 50 feet wide and About 15 feet ahead, there appears to be a water filled pit.

Day 14 - late afternoon
In reply to Thaco (msg # 454):

A 20-foot wide chasm cuts across the dungeon corridor. The sounds of splashing water emanate from the chasm bottom. On the stone floor across the expanse, a visored hel met sits upon the ground.
Closer examination of the chasm reveals what appear to be some recent modifications. A tiny piton hammered into the stone on the southwest side supports a thin thread woven from hair. A similar setup exists for sliding down from the northeast surface to the northwest ledge.
The actual water is about 10 feet down so is not easily accessed by Thaco but the smell of salt water is strong and he guesses that the water below is not potable.

In reply to Thaco (msg # 456):

Rufus is in ownership of the single extra potion that the group had procured from the witch of the woods. He may also have a spell that can be used to revitalize Thaco.

The group discusses their options in the chasm room while the torch putters in and out and their bellies growl with hunger and thirst.

I do not fully understand what is being described.  what is the thin thread doing?  Does it run down somewhere?

I check for traps for the hell of it.

That's exactly it. It's like 2 zip lines on thin ropes. Based on the thickness of the ropes, it does not appear that it would hold the weight of a large lad such as Graz.
