In order to play this game we have to have a Lord and a Prince to play against one another
I wouldn't worry to much if you are not a good strategist or these rules.

So I'm wondering, I believe you mentioned this game was lifted from an OA adventure, GM. I'd like to ask some more questions on that. Was this from the original Oriental Adventures book/the 3.5 version? Or from an module? If so, which one? This game is incredibly cool to me and I wanted to look at where you got the inspiration from.

I have a copy of the original Oriental Adventures book from 1e, but it doesn't seem to have much of anything to do with what we do here.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I added the Code of Boshido to our game resources because I think it will help a little to understand why some NPCs will act the way they do. This doesn't mean you have to change your PC ideas, and it does make for good reading if you never read this version of the code.

There are many interpretations of the code.

Also in my IC, I made a mistake and wanted to add more info. for the group to understand; ....
The title "General" in this game is not just a title is also means special abilities in most cases. Commanders are the basic leaders of the armies (you can assign a general and or a Player), they are controlled by the Players in full as an extension of the PC. Generals are NPCs and will follow the players but at the end are controlled by the GM.

Think of "Commanders" as loyal henchmen.

So just an FYI
I live in mid-town NYC. And things here are crazy, BUT also very quite.
My position is on the Essential List of workers.
I am a building engineer, and responsible to make sure these massive hi-raises stay working.

A/C, water, heat etc etc..... so I will have some free time. Thankfully I am not sick nor exposed yet so I am working. And I hope everyone will be safe and stay happy in these interesting times.

So far, so good. At least we have very few confirmed cases so far. However, the state government is taking precautions. They have just called for all non-essential personnel to stay home, so tomorrow I will be going to my office for what may be the last time in a while. I plan to send home enough transcripts of medieval documents to work on for the duration.

I'm ok, and family all ok. I just wish I could have packed up and went to my house in the mountains. I have a great place away from everyone in PA, and just wait it out.

BUT I am - an "essential worker" and so far have been on the job every day. I am very glade to still have a job I know many are not so lucky and I wish them the very best.

So I notice a drop in log ins. Because of the virus issue I am giving people so time.
I hope the game picks up and posting is more often, .... I'm fending for gaming with this crazy new normal.

So I sent an rmail to few players with a request to post, even if its just chat so I know they are is interested in the game. I am not sure why the posting seems to drag, I happen to log in daily, check everyone's posts, read all the material and even look back and read stuff in case I missed things.

I know that the world is a little crazy in the last two weeks, and maybe this is not the right time for some players, as they tend to real life. I totally understand and wish everyone and their family a healthy life. As far as the game this is my outlet, and hope too keep it going even in tough times.

So we took on two new players.
I made a call for one but since two were so quick to show interest I accepted both.
Can Lil'Frosty and Sengoku work out who really wants the lord and let me know, then the other can take over any NPC or discuss a new character to the mix. but they must be allies and be on the side of the lord as we must have a player as the lord.

In my experience on RPOL, it is not usually necessary to be available to play at specific times each day, so long as you can check in fairly regularly. However, the exact posting policy is up to the GM.

As long as you check in and post, if you go away for days at end with no notice then I will have to drop the player.

For example, the last player who was the lord did not feel well and could not post, so he respectfully stepped aside and when he is better will return (too a new character).

On the other hand I had a player make a character post and never return. I tried for almost two weeks to reach out with no reply. So that person was dropped. And even that person can return to the same character or make a new if they like.

The only time a player is removed is if they are a serious problem. I have only had one player in years be removed and banned from my games.

Where and when should I post?

Both have active players.

The Lord's thread is going to be slow day 1 but once this day is over I can see it being more inline with the rest.

I do highly recommend keeping the group together, it will help prevent this in some cases.

Hey now, pork is very popular in Japan and stir fry rice is easy to make (and exists in most asian cultures). I really wanted to write pork cutlet (dongasu), but I really don't know what tools/ingredients peasants had in these times... Dongasu is so goooooood.

And wait, what does a mixed culture means in this setting? Does it mean mainly Japanese culture with influences from around the world? May I have pineapples as a trading product?

Yes, you can have some exotic foods and items for trade. This is not Rokugan but it does have some elements of that setting. The world is prominent Asian cultures and what we call western cultivation doesn't really exist.

Image a world that was settled and controlled by real world eastern society and all the rest of the cultures have been gone or intertwined for centuries.

I have not developed the world beyond the map provided. Nor have I developed the politics beyond this province and the simple fact there is a shogun and no emperor sitting on the throne.

From the Bushido RPG book I took the following and modified it for this game.
Many players have asked me, "What type of resources are there?" and so now for some players they can use this as ideas to pick from.

Now some of you may say, I did not have this opportunity, but these are not just given they are earned and or picked at character creation. And to pick one requires a great cost to that creation process.

The good news I will be allow later in the game for players to pick more resources as a form of level advancement. And some of these and other resources will be awarded in game play.

Think of this as a taste of what's to come.

Not yet I have 50 pages to look though and figure out in what ways I would like to incorporate the material.
New players will not be allowed to use the new material until its available for everyone. I was going to allow it but that’s not fair to you guys. And or gals.

And yes once I have it ready I will not only allow players to use it I may also use it as GM - as the basis for experience lvl advancement in some way.

Example at the end of an encounter I may say pick a combat resource for you victor in a duel.
Or pick a skill related to war for your win when you commanded a battle, etc, etc.

I still want the game to function as simple and easy as possible. The game is first focused on RP, and combat needs to be deadly and a little unpredictable. So players don’t just attack and kill everyone because they have the stats or a skill set.

So one group has basically finished day 1 and the other group is almost finished.
When you get your RECAPS you should use the OOC thread to go over your plans and discuss player to player your ideas, and when ready let me know and I will get the next day ready to start.

Before we move on I do need to update the Campaign Record Sheets
Keep in mind we can not start until both groups are finish with their respective day.

If there are any error in my RECAP post let me know in OOC and I will update IC. Keep in mind IC is whats official, so if its not there its not confirmed.

Yes, well we are without a prince and so I will NPC him until the role gets filled.
So ,... if you and Chobei take a bit more of a proactive role it will help move the adventure along without me interacting, as I want to be as fair as possible to the other group.

Going on Vacation!!!

So, I normally go ever year to the Cape May, for Memorial Day weekend but thanks to Covid for the first time since I was 8 I will not go to the beach to start my summer. This year I will go to my house in the mountains and chill out with Mother Nature in the woods and my lake, do some shooting and fishing in PA.

I will have Wifi, and I will bring my lap top so I can post. Not sure, .... lets see how it goes. I do not want to say I will post, ... then get tied up and don't keep my word. I do intend to post as much as I can based on how sober I stay, LMAO

I have finished the list and descriptions of the "Abilities as a Resource" post #7 in the Character Creation Resources thread.

So one thing that came up was what kind of resources could a PC pick from. And we kind of made stuff up as we went along. I am working an actually list.

I have not finished the ATTRIBUTES 100% yet but you can read that as well.

Let me know your thoughts, the idea so far is ATTRIBUTES can be contested but tend to be stronger and more general resources as ABILITIES are focused limited but con not be contested.

I also start some light rule on magic with will be referred to as "Power" (until I figure ouut a better name for it - LMAO).

Hello everyone

So I have basically decided to make a homebrew 'Oriental Adventure' style game.

The concept is combining Warlords with Boshido, L5R, and Classic D&D Oriental Adventures into one game that's designed for heavy role-playing online (Play by Post format)

For now we will only be using the Warlords: One-on-One rules, but the goal is once this opening adventure is done we can end there or keep playing. If we can keep playing I will introduce these rules as we move from a war game to an adventure game.

I know Bushido and D&D Oriental Adventures but not Warlords. However, if you tell me what my options are, I will do whatever is needed.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Warlords is the base system we're using in this game, Hiro. L5R always looked fairly interesting to me, though I think its high-fantasy approach will benefit from a little tempering by being blended with Bushido and D&D OA.

In any case it sounds like a fun idea to me. It always seems like a good thing to do in PvP games to allow the game to continue once one of the players has won. The possibilities are many...

So far no takers on playing the lord. So when we each day 3 I will have to NPC that part of the game. I will mark down some ideas and roll a d6 and you will be able to contest my rolls.
This will be the fairest way to handle the Lord until someone steps to the plate.

Well the game is designed to have some questions as to location and troop numbers etc etc. but there is a spy system in place so it is not a complete free for all.

I have closed out 2 Day for the Lord. This was done based on the the ideas and want the last player was working towards. I placed all the notes so the next player will understand the order of events should we find someone interested in playing the Lord.

If Kenshin is sending out tax collectors, who are likely to be unpopular, once Sato's party learns of them they might use this to rally the villagers against Kenshin.

As you know I'm working on developing the game from a war/strategy game to an adventure game when one side wins.

And I started to think what if I was new and saw all that stuff, .... it would be to much to deal with. So I changed the grouping and I will work on that independently. Once we move into the adventure part then I will update the groups.

Well enough. I had an MRI to find the cause of pain in my left leg and was told that the openings in my vertebrae are tightening up on my nerves.

Hope that can be remedied sooner rather than later, Hiro. It sounds a bit grim. And also very familiar. Hmm, maybe I should get an MRI done too...

I'm just slowly recovering from several days of brain-melting illness, so this hiatus was perfectly timed as far as I'm concerned.

Handling back to school issues and relocation.

The game is not dead, over or anything like that.
I was just very busy, and I will catch up ASAP

The university where I teach (when needed, since I am semi-retired) is moving cautiously into reopening for fall. I am beginning to see students on campus.

O my God! this has been the three weeks from Hell!

So I am very sorry I had a family emergency that I am still dealing with.
And work is crazy, ... and when I say crazy I mean these people are off their rockers.

The good news is my family emergency will be resolved by Tuesday (I hope)
and work, well its work i will deal with that.

Let say for now that I will be back in full force by next week Wednesday.

I realized that the things that make me happy are the simple stuff, like RPGs, and gaming in general. The lack of human contact this year sucked, the only thing I missed was being with friends at the table, playing a CCG, or an overly complicated board game and some good old fashion dice throwing.
