Again Viridian gave a small nod. "Then whatever S'finx does not buy, I would like the purchase the rest please."

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
If Demo had external ears, they would have perked and swiveled at the mention of "pulled pork". He'd have to make a note to claim dibs on at least a few of those.

Niq added to the pile of potential problem solving materials he was collecting on the counter a few pouches of Sleepytime and a handful of smokesticks. A few more personal items for his semi-amateur cigarmaking were set off to the side of the "expedition supplies" pile. He also had a list of small quantity raw materials he might need for the trip for his own use. He turned to Persephone, squinting slightly to try and see if he could tell which one she was. "I meant it you know, I would like to know. It seems things don't quite work here the way they do back home. I'd rather avoid any surprises."

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
She held up a hand at Demo's impatience, "Gimmie a sec, I wrote it all down and I'll run upstairs and get you the paperwork when I start getting the meals. Just make sure you leave me either a copy or the original."

She looked down at the smokesticks before rolling her solid silver eyes playfully at Niq'lai, "Hey, sticky fingers, you need any other explosives from the back, or did you pocket everything you needed while my guard was down?"

She stuck out her tongue and blew a short toot at the other alchemist's familiarity with her shop before turning to S'finx, "and it looks like we're dumping some big decisions on you, now, Chief. What's it gonna be? What are you getting for your friends and colleagues to eat and how much are you gonna leave poor, starving Viridian and her family?"

"Well....," S'finx pursed his lips in thought. "I think that begs a bigger question." Thoughts of buying all of the desserts had been rolling around in his mind. "Virdian," he turned to address her directly, "what is the actual food situation like for your family? Is there farming? Herds? Anything to gather?"

"Well there is lots of fish that we buy from the Pi-rates. Bough has caught a couple chickens and we've been using the eggs to supplement the wish we got. Sometimes people will find fruit or vegetables out while on patrol or even shoot down one of the hawks to eat. Mostly though we have to rely on the little garden we have, but it takes times to grow things. And the of course there is the stores of rations everyone get's born with. That is how I had candy to start with. I have been eating a lot of grass though to not waste resources since I hate the fish and I can flavor stuff however I want." She looked thoughtful up at the beams of the shop. "We don't really have much in the way of grains that isn't salted hardtack."

S'finx nodded slowly. So much for his desserts. Viridian would probably enjoy them more anyway. "I think we'll do well enough without them. Orried and Urukabar are experienced in the wilds outside of this plane, Niq and I are familiar enough with what can be eaten here. I really don't think we'll need extra meals beyond what we already have. Sell them all to Viridian, Percy."

Persephone nodded slowly, and looked at her inventory paper, doing some quick math on it with a charcoal stick and then straight tearing it out and handing it to Viridian, "Okay, so That's Four years of food for twelve people at three meals a day plus dessert at dinner. Six-thousand twelve-hundred and fifty golds even. And now I have no spare rations whatsoevs; that's my whole stock." She laughed, "And then you nod and say 'that's fine' and howard shows up at the end of the negotiation with exactly as much money as it takes to pay for everything you buy today, Right?"

"Oh no, there is much more of us then just twelve." She laughed softly and opened the bag she'd been given earlier and held out the beautiful diamond that was on top. "I have all the money right here however. Don't forget the other stock that I am also interested in. The glue and things."

Cyrus coughed at the sight of the diamond.  The fact that she could just pay with a single gem... it was too much. He busied himself with looking at the candy. At least he'd be eating well. Well... not him, but ... later him. The Cyrusi who come after him.

T'Chanchka only listened.

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
Niq was about to defend his acquisitions, and even managed to eke out a "Didn't pocket..." when he stopped, and turned towards Viridian. "I'm sorry, did you say pirates? There are Pirates? There's an open enough body of water somewhere for Pirates to be a thing?" Clearly he was having trouble with that concept. So much so that he managed to completely miss the rest of Viridian's statements. The "much more of us than just twelve" comment probably deserved far more attention than he afforded it, for instance.

He shook his head then turned back to Persephone. "Persephone, you are a gentlewoman and a scholar. I didn't mean to rush you in the least." He shot a glance to Cyrus, then at the barrel he was still carrying. Brigh help us the gods-forsaken squirrel heard all this, didn't he? crossed his mind immediately. He tried subtly gesturing the same to the other inhabitants of the shop, especially Persephone herself.

"No, not Pirates, Pi-rats." Viridian shook her head completely missing the greater point. "They are little naval faring fur-folk that look like rats. We trade them textiles for Fish and sometimes do other trades. They have been fairly nice to us really." She gave happy smile as she duck out another gem, this time a pristine emerald for Persephone. "Their boats are adorable, Volo did some repairs on one for them since we can pick them up out of the water a lot easier then they can at their docks."

T'chanchka had heard indeed, but took different meaning from the conversation, than expected. "What a Double-cross! How dare the Rope-tailed Freebooters trade with you. They have done trade with us peaceably, and yet they also dare to do so with you? Betrayal of the highest order! Their honor is as bare as their behinds! The Titans and their Diplomatic weakness spread like disease! You are naught but tall, tailess, Crown Envoys!"

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
Persephone laughed and shook her head, "Cute barrel monster, but I think I'll keep my slime." She kooked a thumb behind her at the beaded curtain, "I'll go get those notes and start bringing up the THOUSAND jars of dessicated food. If anybody wants to volunteer to help with that feel free. Just be aware that the basement stores are hella Cramped and if you knock over my chemistry set, you're responsible for my lost profits. I'm barely scraping by as it is, as you guys can clearly see."

She nodded at the Gems being offered as she took them and placed them in a pouch on her hip, "Look at this, what a fall from grace. Two tiny gems down from the huge bars of Bullion I was taking yesterday. I'll be taking ELECTRUM next at this rate."

She waved for someone to follow her, "I'll show you which crates full of jars to start moving and then I'll head upstairs to get the Nodes for Demo."

The room hung a bit as no one hurried to volunteer to carry a thousand jars out of Persephone's basement.

Cyrish looked about and laughed, stepping forward and purposefully flexing his biceps at the group as he followed, "I suppose I'm the mule today."

Viridian sighed at the barrel as T'chanchka warred inside it. "You don't even know which boats traded with us to know who it was. For all you know it is completely different rats that have no agreement with you. they aren't one big unified people you know." She gave the wood a gentle tap to get the angry war lord to settle down. She also watched Cyrus follow after Persephone as she now had to wonder how the hell she was going to get so many jars home. Ralph could only carry so much. She really was going to need a wagon at this rate.

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
Niq was halfway through sketching out a rope-and-pulley system to lift everything through a hole in the floor (how the hole would have gotten there is left as an exercise to the reader) when Cyrus responded. "Oh, I guess...yeah, if we want to just carry them up by hand..." Who even does that? The paper was crumpled up and shoved into a pocket.

Niq eyed Viridian sidelong, counting up in his head exactly how much Persephone charged, and Howard was paying for all this? Or did the Calligraphy Children have their own money included there. He decided diplomacy was the better course of valor in that question, and instead busied himself setting some separators around his pile. "Do you have a cart to carry all the food with us?" He tallied his pile's cost from Percy's price lists, wrote "Invoice to: King Howard's Diplomatic Mission Party Fund" at the bottom, then joined Cyrus. "I guess I can help out a bit." Don't expect much. His weight is mostly for show. And from healthy breakfasts.

S'finx did not offer to help. His strongest muscle was his brain, and he was well aware of it.  Instead he waited until the others had disappeared to get the crates before turning to Viridian. "I'm glad you enjoyed my home," he smiled graciously, very aware of the tiny creature who would be hearing all this. "I hope things weren't too cramped with all of you, and I take it that Cyrus was able to be a gentleman?"

"OH yes, he slept on the sofa while Quip and I had the bed. He didn't even try anything at all." She smiled as Quip followed after the others to help in whatever way he was able. He could at least carry one jar after all.

Viridian combed her fingers through the shorter hair on the top of her head, mindful of Nenat and to make sure she didn't bump the little mouse. "Waking up to the king being in the house was quite the surprise."

S'finx nodded. "That is strange. I wonder what he was after. Perhaps I should have checked my house over again for any extra additions. Or perhaps he just wanted to check on the new arrivals.  I highly doubt Hamish and Gumpert let it go with not telling him about you." He shrugged. "Ah, well.  I'm seriously starting to wonder if a bag of holding would be able to be gotten to carry the supplies to your family."

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
The interior of the basement was pitch dark until Persephone activated a sunrod to illuminate the area, and once she did, the wonders of her basement could finally be seen. The basement room the stairs descended into was easily three-to-four times the size of the first floor, and that was just what could be seen from the stairs. Buttressed stone columns and a domed ceiling supported the shop above ground, while a wooden platform acted as a basement-and-a-half above the true basement's smooth stone floor. The platform was loaded with several boxes and crates of staging supplies, but below in the true basement was a laboratory that many alchemists would die for, a modest library, a SECOND storefront, and a storage area so chaotically arranged that it probably boasted a minotaur.

On her way down persephone checked several lantern-looking objects set on the wall, swearing silently to umbral creatures at each one. "Rassn-frassn lightbringers. Prolly them mice, actually."

She handed the Sunrod to Demo and took a small makeup-compact from a pouch on her belt. "Alrighty, kiddos. I'll give the right crates a bop with the glowy stuff. Should be around forty-summat." She pointed at the far end of the dungeon, the opposite direction of the lab, "Cargo lift is back there, call it slow, or you'll probably either break it or get hit on the head with it."

With everything said, she tapped the brush from the compact on a crate, leaving a glowing yellow circle, "Bop."

"Forty-something-minus one remaining."

Niq looked at the sunrod as if it had three heads, then gave Persephone a look that asked Why do I have this? before handing it off to Cyrus. "I'l grab the lift," he muttered as he headed in the direction indicated by Persephone.

As he disappeared into the darkness, he called back "Are you thinking of expanding to selling down here also?"

The click clack of nails heralded Quip behind the group as he hopped down the stairs front legs then back legs in a sea-saw motion. Sniffing the air his tail gave a little unsure wag as he checked out the glowing goop. with a smear on his nose he began move around separate from Persephone, smelling for the boxes clearly full of food and bopping his nose to leave a glowing nose print.

"Thanks, puppy, you're a dear," Persephone called out as she noticed some boxes already marked with a nose-print. "And the other storefront is for when I actually sell splodeys instead of have people just nick them from the boxes in the back room to add to their order. So far there's about five people in town who I trust with them, so I haven't used the bomby shoppy much yet. We'll see if anybody in the new wave gets trustworthy enough to buy incendiary jars and lighting bottles and fungus stun vials."

Cyrus Tucked the Surod into his belt, picked up a crate and began moving toward the elevator, "I wouldn't mind something like a tangle-burn for the next time I get swarmed by squirrels, but I'll have to see your 'worthiness test' first. So far I'm good at reading comprehension, throwing things, and gaining scars where others would gain wisdom."

Re: DesQuiet Concoctions| Expedition Day 187
The cargo lift was found exactly where it was described, and calling it caused the floor of Persephone's rear shed to descend to the underground bunker with many squeaks and much squealing. Cyrus got it loaded with Niq's help quickly enough, especially once Viridian brought down the Bag of Gems she'd been given By Howard, which was apparently an inside-out bag of holding, she discovered upon emptying it.

The bag wasn't large enough to fit all the crates, but was certainly large enough to fit all the jars minus the crates. Just over a thousand jars of food, each with twelve servings of a day's worth of meals, all packed in a sixty pound sack. It was an emotional burden for Viridian if not a physical one, and the lift was sent up empty.
